My 93 year old mum in law lives in Melbourne, Aust. suffers from dementia. I often download clips for her and write them to dvd. she will just love this one
Wynton Marsalis - Unbelievable!
Interesting to see the facial reaction differences of
Jon-Erik and Chris both sitting next to Wynton Marsalis when he is playing these fantastic breaks.
Super Rhythm - Section as well.
Easily one of the catchiest soloists I've ever heard, love the guy's playing.
What amazes me is the amount of energy Wynton puts into his playing this piece
Merci mr Victor Goines pour ce magnifique solo de clarinette !!!!
I just know Clark Terry is up there in heaven smiling any time Chris Crenshaw picks up a microphone !!!
Love Wynton. One of the best on the planet.
Ever.
Now in mexican. No mameeees, cuanta maestría de Wynton. I made me so happy listening to this. I praise his expertise.
I really liked how you made yourself happy.... That does sum it up 🎵🎶🎼
Love wynton's face at 3:00 when goines lays down what we call in jazz "the sauce"
WONDERFUL TRUMPET SOLO
This is an amazing take on the Armstrong classic. There are hints throughout the rhythm that point to a fresh, modern approach, all the while preserving rather than copying the exact sound of the studio version. The trombone player cooks with the scat. Finally Marsalis is at the very least Armstrong's equal, but IMO he totally surpasses him in technique. A modern masterpiece. Thanks for uploading it Wynton!
Adding something original to an Armstrong classic while preserving Armstrong's pure expression of joy in this piece, very few musicians can reach that level.
Speaking of technique, Wynton blows a few notes here and there (as did Armstrong in many of his recordings) you just about never hear a musician of Wynton's caliber push themselves to the very limits of their talent, he certainly matches Armstrong's passion in this piece.
I think this piece is utterly brilliant up to 1:42. At which point Wynton starts messing around with the rythmn in a very "modern" way. Yes, it's terribly clever but, for someone who likes trad as trad, not at all enjoyable. Same goes for the "modern" approach to the scat. Again, terribly clever but, to my ear at least, jarring.
My only comment is that wynton solos too long, give others there spot
What a way to make a living! Can you even imagine? How good life would be! Man, did I take the wrong path.
I am your BIGGEST FAN!! I put Wynston Marsalis Jazz in Marciac 2009 on daily!! WOW!!
This deserves a great big Bill and Ted style We're not worthy! Wynton you're awesome!
This is just amazing to listen to
classic jazz .... always a pleasure to listen to
HOT DAMN! Seriously!!! It makes me so happy to see Wynton play like this.
Thank you so much for this.
One of the MOST E-X-T-R-A-O-R-D-I-N-A-R-Y trumpet solos I've hear in my life. Thank you Wynton!! Alberto E. Raineri, Montevideo, Uruguay.
I agree. One of the most extraordinary solos I've heard too. Just blown me away!
did you say E-X-T-R-A-O-R-D-I-N-A-R-Y because you wanted to emphasize the word or did you want me to read it to myself as the word spelled out?
He’s the best awesome music and incredible trumpet technique
You should hear the original, Wynton is one of the very few that could credibly cover Armstrong at the very hight of his powers, and like all great covers, add even more to a piece that's already a classic.
My Lord! This is inspiring. This is why I practice my trumpet everyday. I want to play like Wynton Marsalis. That is my dream.
He's so great!! You're right!!
I remember when I would play along with Louis Armstrong's records because I wanted to play and sound like him. That was my goal until a friend of mine told me to stop playing like Louis, the world already had a Louis, and to play like me. Develop my own style of playing, which isn't anything special but at least it's different. I'll never be like Louis or any other trumpeter and I'm okay with that. Just play and develop your own style and sound. Don't be like anyone who's come before.
JazzFan76 while you’re right, musicians get their licks and specific sound from other players. To get good at improv, you need to listen A LOT and mimic other players so you can get a feel of what they’re doing then study the solos in depth later on. With that being said, getting your style comes from all the musicians you’ve ever heard and tried to mimic but also from coming up with new ideas.
You’d have to add and every night as well - but I suspect you’d still be struggling
jwmc41 being good at improv was never meant to be easy otherwise everyone would be good at it. Practicing different techniques, patterns, LISTENING, and mimicking is really how you become a good musician whether it’s something you want to do or not. Also exploring other genres and styles of music helps a good amount.
Damm it man.. What a solo Wynton! Keep it up bb. Swings the pants off
At the beginning, look at that 2nd Trumpet guy second from the right... he's grinnin' like a skunk eatin' bumblebees through a picket fence!
The other cool thing is that Mr. Marsalis lays down in the weeds for most of this and lets the other guys have their day in the sun - that's pure musicianship.
Humble Director/Maestro!!!!
GENIAL. GENIAL. GENIAL. GENIAL. MARAVILLOSO. FANTÁSTICO. ALUCINANTE. OBRA MAESTRA.

Hotter than that alright! Wynton's keeping a great music form in front of a lot of people. Turk Murphy, Louis Armstrong and all the keepers of the flame would be happy!

I'm disappointed that only one camera was used. I would like to have seen the drummer and pianist some of the time.
Magnifique avec un Wynton en verve
❤❤❤❤
I love everything very much
That high note right at the 0:30 mark! This is where WM deviates from the original and begins his own phrasing, and the guy next to him can tell! Watch the happiness his face. That’s what it’s all about ❤
The man with the mouth solo, jaja, cool!
Groove
Caraka muito legal
How does he manage to insert different time sigs in his solo? Wynton will go down as one of the all time jazz greats.
Yehbo!!!! 4~Sho!!!!
I wonder. He will go down as one of the greatest technicians. Skillfully and logically assembling and blending jazz licks from variety of sources into a virtuoso performance. But is there anything in his constructions that others will use and be influenced by in their own jazz thinking. I am not sure there is anything for that. In fact, where are his followers, is there even one?
@@jwmc41 ARE YOU INSANE?
@@johnburns5860 Not really (I don’t think!) but name just one musician that could identify as a WM follower (such as Sonny Stitt after Charlie Parker).
Ab-so-lute-ly fantastic!
Why I can't click "Like" twice!
Mr. Wynton Marsalis:
Hotter Than These Brakes in your First Chorus do not exist!
