I ve just finished "Tortuga" by Valerio Evangelisti. Highly immersive pirate story and well docuemented.

Yes pirates/ships in book are always one of my favorite elements in fantasy books so I've been looking for a series that has it as the main focus instead of just a side story!

love the opening joke 😂. i had no idea that there were pirates of caribbean books 😮. this whole video is making me want to read more pirate books 😅. i’ll probably start with treasure island!! have you ever seen black sails? i’ve never watched it lol, but my friend who’s into pirates really likes the show 🙂.
I've actually watched the first two episodes of the show and really enjoyed it! I need to go back and watch more because I completely forgot about it xD
If you want to read about pirates read General History of the Robberies & Murders of the Most Notorious Pirates it was written in 1725. Each chapter is a different pirate like Blackbeard, Captain Kidd, Captain Charles Vane, etc. this book is where we got the history of pirates from.
I love pirates and I’ve wanted to read some books with them for so long, but I didn’t know where to start!! I can’t wait to check these out. Thank you!

I remember reading vampirates in junior high and being pleasantly surprised haha. Ghost Ship was one i was trying to remember the name of! I also love To Catch a Pirate which is one of those tiny gushy young adult romances

Omg I also read these Pirates of the Caribbean lil' books after having a HUUGE hangover from watching the movies! I honestly never heard of the other books (except Treasure Island), but I'm very much into pirates and I'd like to try (especially Peter Pan retellings!). You own so many pirate books hahahaa, I've never seen someone own so many pirate books. Great video!

Happy to see other pirate books besides On Stranger Tides (also amazing). I’d also add Pirate Latitudes by Michael Creighton. Published posthumously in 2009.

I started an audiobook of Treasure Island yesterday after coming across an essay about Stevenson in James Milne's "Memoirs of a Bookman." I'm questioning whether I actually read the full book as a kid, or whether I read an abridged version and am remembering the Muppet's Treasure Island 🤣 At 12 or 13 I was absolutely obsessed with the Jacky Faber books. Definitely read up until Belly of the Bloodhound. I haven't read beyond that one, but it was my favourite. Maybe I should reread myself to see if they live up to my memories.
I really want to continue on with the series :)

It's a children's book, but have you ever read "Swallows And Amazons" by Arthur Ransome? I reread it every now and then. It's about a group of children on holiday who get permission to take a boat out and stay overnight on an island. It's a great adventure book.

Yeah!! I love pirates!! 🏴☠️🏴☠️🏴☠️ My number one recommendation is The Pyrates by George MacDonald Fraser. It's sort of a spoof of pirate movies, similar tone to The Princess Bride. (Also a lot like the Monkey Island games.) It's absolutely hilarious by a phenomenal writer.

Tales of ketty Jay is a pirate book I'm looking to read in future, u will like it it's set in a little science fiction place
I would recommend the Live ship Traders trilogy by Robin Hobb, where you will meet the most bizarre and intriguing character I have ever encountered in fiction ; captain Kennit of the Marietta.
I really want to get into Robin Hobb. I've heard soooo many great things about her books. and I love fantasy so I have no idea why I haven't started her works yet xD

vampirates - what a fun combo!! Blackhearts sounds interesting - and so does Pirate Alley. the cocnept of modern pirates is something that is def not as explored in literature and media.
I loved vampirates when I read them soooo much.
There's a film that came out a couple years ago called The Pirates of Somalia(modern pirates).
I enjoyed it a bit, maybe check it out :)
Hey Erika, don't forget The Ghost Pirates by William Hope Hodgson, not an influence on the first Pirates movie as far as I know, but a cult classic. And a book that definitely was an influence on the fourth Pirates movie, On Stranger Tides by Tim Powers.
Oh! There might even be some of Hodgson's work in that pirates anthology you have here, edited by Sam Gaffordd, a noted scholar of his.
