That's true, I've had that fear for so long and the issue is that I keep adding those books to my tbr. I tried picking up Illborn and finished it in a couple of days. So I guess it depends on the author(their writing and pace).. some make you feel how long the book is while others make every page enjoyable so you're never bored. I’m definitely going to add some of these, I think I was expecting shorter books. I tend to read books in the 300 page range as a regular length book, so 250 doesn’t feel that much shorter, especially because I have limited reading time and manage maybe 20-30 pages a session (on a good night 🥴) Would love to see a list of novellas. The Yellow Wallpaper is a favorite.

I tend to find graphic novels/comics/manga quick read, usually they take under a day, depending on how invested I get.
Also a lot of books can be a one day read if you get invested in them. I had to read ‘The Kite Runner’ for English Lit and every time I finished a chapter I thought just one more. Come 6am the next morning and I’m emotionally devastated but I finished the book. Took me about 12 hours (though I did stop for dinner and did get a couple of hours sleep).
Edit: I originally said any book could be a one day read. Yeah. Some books are just too long but if you want to go for it you do you.

reading short stories sounds like such a good idea to get back into reading! since starting college a few years ago, i haven't been able to read nearly as much because i can't just hop in my car and drive to the library and it's too far to walk to. i feel like it's literally affecting my mental health because the longer i go without reading the more depressed i get and reading ebooks and audiobooks just isn't the same for me and it's so much harder to get motivation to read them. to get me out of my reading slump i decided to look for graphic novels and manga because i figured i could probably go through them relatively fast but i do miss novels and will definitely be reading some (or all) of these books!

I don't know that I can read Before The Coffee Gets Cold. I know it contains at least one story relating to Alzheimer's and that's just too close to home for me after losing my grandpa. I would say "maybe someday", but I don't know that my grief is ever going to fully fade. It sounds wonderful but there's a difference between "I want a book that will make me feel stuff" and "no this book will literally make me unwell with sadness". But I'm really glad to hear that a lot of people found it a healing and meaningful read. Books can be truly fantastic friends

thank you, thank you, thank you!! for continually recommending ACE. as an aroace person it’s hard to find any representation in media and it can even be hard feeling included in the queer community sometimes. i have had ACE on my tbr for a while and have heard about it from other ace people but seeing my favourite book-tuber not only read it, but have it be in their top books of the year AND continue to recommend it means the absolute world to me!!! it often feels like we aren’t taken seriously so it just made me really happy to see you talk about it so positively!!
    All the love!! 🥺🥲🥰

Can't grow a forest overnight. I haven't completed an entire book scince highschool, maybe your list of short books may help me find my love of reading again. Although I am curious to know, is "The Clockwork Reader" some kind of refrence to a "A Clockwork Orange" by Anthony B?

Some of my favourite short books are 'In Watermelon Sugar', which I found super unique and cozy, and 'This Is How You Lose The Time War' which has some of the most stunning prose I've ever read. It's basically about two characters who write letters to each other over a span of time and each character is actually written by a different author. It's one of the most beautiful books I've ever read. Highly recommend both!

Omg if you like books written in letter forms I would 100% recommend The Sorrows of Young Werther! It's very popular in my country (Poland) but idk about others. Its very psychological and talking about love and obsession. I really liked it!!
