Mookie Betts on Playing with Ohtani, Dodgers in the Playoffs & Haunted Milwaukee Hotel

- Mookie talks about the humbling experience playing with Shohei Ohtani, the White Sox losing 121 games, the Dodgers being favored to win the World Series, immersing himself in baseball, playing pickleball with strangers at the park, not being a fan of the team hotel in Milwaukee because it’s said to be haunted, and Dodgers having specific celebration moves.

I'm a shoei Ohtani fan but how tf is your second question about Ohtani when you have Mookie in front of you? Yeah Ohtani is amazing but Mookie is also one of the best players in the Dodgers. This is so disrespectful
I totally agree, Mookie deseves his own praise as he is also amazing! I even thought he’d ask about his own records or as a team but not to create rivalry… so senseless 😒
Mookie often talks about Ohtani on his podcast & how humbling it is to play with him & how that makes him a better player. Instead of viewing Ohtani’s talent as a threat, he openly praises him to help maintain his confidence - cause when Ohtani plays his best, his team wins & helps them get to the WS.
Also, the questions/topics discussed are all predetermined & approved by both parties, & the guest usually suggests the topics. So, this is all coming straight from Mookie himself.
he doesn't watch baseball it's obv
@@alm5851 Calm down.
showing up wearing shorts and sunglasses seems disrespectful too
To the casuals Markus Lynn "Mookie" Betts is an eight-time All-Star, a six-time Silver Slugger Award winner, a six-time Gold Glove Award recipient, a two-time World Series champion, and was named the Most Valuable Player in the American League in 2018. He is also second in Wins Above Replacement (WAR) among active position players, behind Mike Trout.
Preach sabr.👍
bro wtf literally first question in and its about shohei 😂 the disrespect
Shohei is the face of mlb
Trout: Welcome to my world
@@chanzgolding9621 Shohei has been my favorite player since he came to the MLB, but this interview was supposed to be about Mookie. I turned it on to learn about Mookie not Showtime. It was disrespectful in my opinion as well.
Bro, Shohei is a big deal. It was fine. Stop crying.
Such a horrible way to open up this interview talking about someone else n saying he’s better than the interviewee. Do better man cmon.
That man showed up wearing sunglasses indoors. If Snoop Dogg can go on that show without wearing sunglasses then so can he
Mookie often talks about Obrani on his podcast & how humbling it is to play with him & how that makes him a better player. Instead of viewing Ohtani’s talent as a threat, he openly praises him to help maintain his confidence - cause when Ohtani plays his best, his team wins & helps them get to the WS.

Mookie Betts, future hall of famer and deserves the spotlight! While I love Shohei Ohtani, I feel like the constant comparisons can sometimes overshadow Mookie's incredible talent and contributions to the game. I appreciate both of these legends!! Here's to hoping they both shine in the playoffs and winning the world series!! 🏆
With all due respect, inviting Mookie while pitting him against a teammate whom he very much respect is just not it. Both can be great at the same time, not sure why you don't ask him more of himself instead since he has a lot of materials to be asked about. Also, Ohtani has never been absent to give Mookie his flowers on lots of Japanese interviews. This is a very classless interview. I feel sorry for both Mookie and Ohtani cause this kind of BS gotta be so mentally exhausting for both of them.
As an Angels/Shohei fan, this is what Mike Trout kinda had to deal with as well. It bums me out because it's not Shohei's fault he's a once in a generation talent, but asking his MVP teammates endless questions about another athlete's feats is just awkward. I definitely understand how both of them would feel weird answering the same questions over and over.
Perfectly said what I was thinking, feel like Kimmel is trying to cause drama or tension right before the playoffs...They're teammates who obviously respect each other a lot and Ohtani has used every chance he gets to praise Mookie even before they were teammates (ie: when asked who impressed him the most last year Ohtani answered Mookie). Just lame to embarass your guest by using his teammate.
@@mikayocc Nah I think its the manner in which Kimmel did it in, he was comparing mookie to Sho and putting him down basically. It's fine if he just asks him about Sho (bc everyone is curious for good reason) but there's no need to compare their stats and purposefully putting Mook down.
@@Heybrotruthhurts I agree with you, there is a way to bring the subject on, but not like Kimmel did.... so disrespectful, you can see how uncomfortable that makes Mookie
@@Heybrotruthhurts That's fair, there is definitely a way to do it - maybe bring it up at the end, and not at the very top of Mookie's interview.
Jimmy Kimmel, is it too challenging for you to show respect to Mookie, the audience, the show, and probably, yourself? Ever think about how terrible this interview is conducted? I admire Ohtani, Mookie, and Dodgers, but I hate this interview.
Dont watch the show dude
ムーキーベッツは優れたプレイヤーだと日本人でさえ誰しも思っているのに、このインタビューはあまりにムーキーに対して失礼に感じる。大谷ファン目線で見ても悲しい
This is awful, Jimmy Kimmel and the writers of this show deserve to go to hell. So freakin disrespectful towards Mookie. This is also one of the reasons why Shohei Ohtani keeps getting unnecessary hate. They don't deserve this.
I dont think this is a valid reason why ppl hate on ohtani though, this is the first time that someone has used Ohtani to put another player down by comparing their stats like this. It's fine to ask questions about Ohtani since everyone is curious but don't embarass the person you're asking by comparing them.
this interview is so awkward
No, just for you!😂
It was fine. Mookie is humble and likes being in awe of Shohei
He seemed high, buzzed, or tired w the shades on lol
He kept cutting off Mookie, poor guy seemed like he wanted to give thoughtful responses and just never had the chance with Jimmy interrupting him constantly.
mookie is so humble i love it. even when he is being compared with shohei he totally understands the situation.
I’m a big Ohtani fan that’s why I now watch / go to dodgers game but Mookie, you are an awesome person and player. I know the interview was little disrespectful but you handled it perfectly. I cloud tell you responded with honest thoughts and what type of person you are. I hope you and the team have the greatest postseason. Go Mookie! Go Dodgers!
Mookie is a great player and an awesome fielder. Dodgers need him just as much.
i’m sorry but this entire interview is disrespectful. Mookie is an amazing ball player and for you to undermine that with asking questions about shohei like come on…
These comedians must've thought it'd be a good bit to embarass him by comparing him with Shohei. Just rude and lame tho it wasn't that funny, mostly awkward.
Ummm perhaps because shohei has been dominating the stats and records lately. Not a big deal bro.
Mookie often talks about Ohtani & how humbling it is to play with him, but that makes him a better player. Instead of viewing Ohtani’s talent as a threat, he openly praises him to help maintain his confidence. After all, when Ohtani plays his best, his team wins.
Of course Jimmy is going to ask about Ohtani - he’s had a superhuman year & has set the bar to an unbelievable high. No one has ever seen a player like him before. I love Mookie, but let’s not forgot that Ohtani carried that team while Freddie, Mookie & others were out for most of the 2nd half of the season. Ohtani rarely takes a day off, not even the last few days when they had nothing to play for. Don’t hate the player.😉
Mookie admit it on his own podcast so he’s not the type that has that kinda ego
@@Colleen-pr3qh don’t get me wrong, witnessing shohei’s greatness is amazing. I love that he’s a dodger for the next 10 years but if you’re going to interview an athlete come prepared with their achievements and no open the interview being disrespectful
i watched the whole thing on my tv. am i the only one that felt like kimmel is trying to downplay mook? he's also a stellar player. we dodgers fans are happy to have both mook and sho on our team, discussions about whos the greatest and all that is very very lame when its only their first year playing together.. couldve worded so many things better but it seemed like youre only asking questions to offend mookie on purpose. hope mook doesnt take it to the heart. sucks too when ive seen shohei repeatedly gave mookie his flowers on media times. youre messing with these players chemistry.
一つ言いたいのは…ムーキーは素晴らしい選手です!!
Mookie Betts on Playing with Ohtani, Dodgers in the Playoffs & Haunted Milwaukee Hotel
you have to have a gold heart to be working with Ohtani. everyone will continues to ask about him on YOUR interview. Trout has many of these during ohtani time in the Angels, now Mookie and the other Dodgers stars have to have the same experience, probably for the next 10 years. Good luck
I am from Japan. Surprised by such a disrespectful manner to interview. Mookie is a great player.
ts buns bruh dont invite athletes ever again if youre just gonna ask stupid questions
English please...
Mookie has a beautiful smile. Great interview. GO BLUE!!!
Chill people, they prep Mookie ahead of time, he knows every question that will be asked and Mookie is cool af he doesn't have a huge ego, he knows they also wanted Ohtani on the show but he doesn't speak English so he's helping him out just like Magic did.
This season I wanted to see one of the Dodgers or any other MLB players to be interviewed but I don’t want that anymore if the hosts are going to be disrespectful. Yes, Othani is great and I’m a big fan but that doesn’t mean that you have to be like this with his own teammates. Mookie deserves praise as he is one of the greatest as well. Hope Mookie just forgets about it and doesn’t take it to heart 😢
Jimmy Kimmel is a clown
I grew up in Southern California. I remember watching the Dodgers and Yankees in the World Series three times. I was 11 the last time they met in the WS. I would love to see them go at it at least one more time while I’m alive.
I felt a bit off when Jimmy suddenly asked about Shohei Ohtani. Mookie had already accomplished an incredible 30-30 season in the past, but the conversation quickly shifted to Ohtani hitting 54 home runs, stealing 59 bases, and how he’s supposedly faster than Mookie. Still, I thought Mookie handled it really well and showed a lot of maturity. It was strange to hear Ohtani questions when the focus should’ve been on Mookie. Let’s go Dodgers! Keep it up, Mookie!
those were very weird first questions lol. why did you have mookie on just to tell him that shohei is better than him? kinda strange to try to pit them against each other like that. i dunno.
Mookie is a cutie💙💙
Of course, this is not a job that baseball players "must" do. But when you become a superstar, you have more options, so you can appear on shows like this. Players who don't want to appear can decline, but Mookie is just the type of person who wants to appear.
But if your team has a bigger superstar than you this will happen. Moreover the interviewer is a comedian, so he likes to turn rudeness into laughter.
And here we go back to the beginning. Shohei and Mookie's job is to lead the team to W. Mookie appeared on this show of his own free will.
This is so unlike Kimmel to interview his guests like this. What happened?
He sucks
Sadly, it's not. He does this to actors and athletes all the time. It's cringe- worthy.
As a dodgers fan, this interview concerns me…
Do you think there's tension there?
He shouldn't even be doing this interview. He is still slumping and need to take some Batting Practices. He is a known choker in the playoff. You don't see Shohei doing these kinda interviews when these times could be used to getting ready for the next game.
@@JohnSmith-nj4zqthis interview is less than 10 minutes. you think that's gonna affect his playoff performance? really? you bozos are so annoying.
@@ayydubs987 10 minutes? Are you that gullible? People don't just wake up and go there. It takes time to decide what to wear, get a clean haircut, shave and everything. It takes at least a day for all the planning. The choker is already planning to play with his bowling team after he drags down the team in the playoff. Why else do you think the Dodgers continue to get eliminated early year after year. This is why Shohei and Teo was brought in, to carry this chump and show gullible fans what it is to win.
@@JohnSmith-nj4zq To be fair, Mookie hasn't performed well in the playoffs over the past 2 seasons, however, if it weren't for Mookie's postseason performances in 2018 & 2020, the Red Sox and Dodgers would never have won the World Series those two seasons. Mookie is due to come through in 2024!! Go BLUE!!
"Are you the guy that put us up at that Ramada in Milwaukee?" Derek Jeter to George Costanza.
Red Sox legend Mookie Betts!
I don't what you were watching but he praised Betts for being a great ballplayer.
Condescending at best, throughout the whole interview
Hey, it's MILWAUKEE. Of course you're gonna have haunted hotels. (duh!)
Much love from Wisconsin! 👻🍂🎃✨
We all love shohei but show some respect man.
I don’t like this interview at all..
Mookie is one of the best players in dodgers.
So this kinda questions are very disrespectful.🤦🏻♀️
Oh stop! Jimmy and Mookie are both having light fun.
People are so sensitive
This might be the worst interview I've ever seen. Not because of Mookie, but because of Jimmy. Wow.
Everyone in these comments mad about the questions is hilarious. Mookie is a PRO and also an Ohtani FAN.. he has said it many times. Just laugh at the jokes and enjoy Mookie being himself as always💙
Soooo why is Bro treating Mookie like some random lil rookie…
Right? Like that’s not MOOKIE BETTS across from him
mookie is one of the greatest ball players and this is disrespectful.
I'm Japanese. The Japanese media also keeps asking Dodgers players questions about Otani, and Japanese people are calling him a shame for Japan. There are similar people in America too. I hope Betts doesn't feel bad.

Mookie Betts is my favorite player, hands down, but have most of the commentators never seen him before? Any awareness of his multiple appearances on Kimmel? (For his charity work, for Jackie Robinson, bowling, etc.). Or that the topic and questions were discussed with Mookie and approved by him before the show?
This is what makes Mookie so special. He loves talking about Shohei. He’s no different than fans and is openly in awe of what he’s doing. It’s sincere, and with a huge smile. He loves this game, appreciates greatness, and isn’t like many who are insecure and driven by ego.
Kimmel trying to start drama or tension between Mook and Ohtani before playoffs? 😂 even though it's factual doesn't mean you say that stuff to bring your guest down. It's just rude. Wish Mookie just focused on the playoffs instead of going to these shows or making podcasts. Focus up and there wouldn't be distractions like this!
The commenters on here are the ones trying to start it. Who cares lmao.
@@Maxtor-ve5nu You don't think it's wrong to bring a guest on air just to humiliate him by comparing him to a better teammate of his? It's unnecessary.
Reading the comments i thought this was gonna be a rough interview, but they literally talked about Ohtani for 60 seconds, mostly in a joking manner, then he was never brought up again.
They spent just as much time taking about pickleball.
Something tells me a lot of these commenters came from some dark hate hole on the internet.
Jimmy, have you ever invited Harrison Ford and asked him in person if Tom Hanks is a better actor?
I’m a Dodger fan Mookie fan, and Shohei fan, you broke my three feelings.
Kind of wish Mookie clapped back asking about how Kimmel feels being one of the worst late night hosts of all time
A bit awkward intro talking about Shohei, but Mookie handled like a champ and humble. Respect. Great human being and teammate. Jimmy hilarious.

This is a disrespect to Mookie Betts. He is one of the greatest players of all time. Stop comparing him to Shohei. They play different positions. They are both great players.
If this host is more interested in Ohtani, he should have invited Ohtani for the interview and not pick Mookie's brain about Ohtani.

My brother Mookie with .289 avg saying about our Shohei Ohtani is freaking awesome😎⚾️.

I hope Mookie doesn’t have any underlying resentment from being forced to praise Shohei all day with these interviews. He’s a super star in his own right and should be given the respect and flowers he deserves.
This was a very awkward interview, certainly not Jimmy's finest hour as an interviewer.
I actually think the amount of time mentioning Ohtani isn't that much comparing to clubhouse interview in which players encounter.
Jimmy has to mention it somehow anyway. He and Mookie just kinda make fun of it and go on to next topic. It could be so much more Ohtani-centric, but 73 seconds is alright. It just a matter of formality.
Did you find that Mookie didn't need to use many superlatives today? Just a bit laid back and being passively agreeable is enough. It's not like Mookie wants to be considered as true goat to be offended.
No matter who is interviewed, he would casually give same compliments to others as well before get into personal topics.
Mookie was a champ for sticking this interview out. If you want info on Shohei then get Shohei on the show. Big props to MB
One thing I know is Ohtani is also Thankful to Mookie and the team for taking him to the PS
We love mookie Betts
I don't get all the hate in the comments here. I love Mookie and thought this was a great interview. It was fun
What? You couldnt get Shohie so you ambush Mokie with questions about him
I love this guy.
I think there are those out there that would love to create a wedge between Ohtani and Betts and hopefully Betts doesn't fall for it because if they want to win the WS, they need Mookie at his best.
In tennis (and basically every other sport) hitting outside the playing field is a bad thing. Odd that.
yeah in baseball you need to be strong to hit it out
a foul ball is also bad in baseball
I won’t be surprised if Mookie never comes back 🤣
Wait, I'm Japanese and of course I follow everything Ohtani does, but I like Mookie, too, and that's the first question you ask your guest?? You are great but Ohtani is better what do you think??? Nahhh that's rude and I mean the fact Mookie doesn't get offended and answer those questions calmly makes me like Mookie even more but c'monnnnn. It's ruddeeee. Mookie, you are awesome! I'm a big fan. I wanna run into you at a tennis court one day where you are playing pickleball!!!
Generally, American talk shows are on the rude side. We apologize.

Come on now, this is kind of disrespectful towards the guest. Alot of us Japanese baseball fans been watching full Dodgers games(it gets aired live on Japanese tv) this season and we all know just how great of a player Mookie is. Asking about Ohtani this and that and not about him is disrespectful.
That's why Conan O'Brien will always be the best. He would have made Mookie much more comfortable.
Next time just interview Ohtani.
Imagine someone went on his show and just opened with "You're not really as good as Carson or Letternman were, are you?"
Mookie is one of the best baseball players ever and he is a genuinely a great human being.

Ohtani isn't even in he top 15% MLB players in terms of pure speed. The fact that he had 59 stolen bases (and actually, even MORE 'real' stolen bases than Elly de la Cruz if you subtract the number times caught stealing) is incredible and speaks to his skill. Base stealing isn't just about speed. It's skill (timing, knowing exactly when to go, how to slide to avoid the tag, etc.)
Guys, there’s no crying in baseball. You take the chops and go harder next game. Ohtani is currently the topic and face of the game and collecting hobby. Love to see Mookie take it like a baseball player and keep rolling, now hit more homers so your cards go up too😁
There was absolutely no disrespectful to Mookie from Kimmel. both parties knew what's going to be ask & said almost before he even steps to the guest seat. that goes for 60 minutes / all other seating interviews on any show or video live * tape. if anyone thinks is random questions to either gain anything disrespecting guest especially this one. you must don't know about the entertainment business.

Some really fragile egos in this comment thread.
Anywho, I thought the question about being the favorites to win the World Series was worse - you have to get there first. Last year’s favorites, with a player who had a player with an even better season than Ohtani’s, didn’t make it out of the NLDS. Neither did the Dodgers, for that matter.

A wasted opportunity. You have one of the best players in baseball and two times World Series champion and all you talk is about Ohtani and the White Sox.
Now why would the first thing you ask him about is his teammate and not anything regarding himself? Incredibly disrespectful.
Cmon bruh Mookie deserves his own spotlight L.A. is big enough to share. Ohtani already has the entire league behind him. Why not let Mookie have his own moment?

With so many pros in sports like football and basketball that have unbelievable physical upbuilds, it is a pleasure to see Mookie who looks like an "ordinary" fit person. He does wonders with physical ability. He is also very well spoken, I wish that his fans would strive to speak as well.
And from that day forward, he vowed revenge, quit the podcast, and achieved 50/50 in 2025…

I'm sure when Ohtani comes in for an interview, Jimmy will ask him about Mookie 😂
I agree with the comments about Mookie being disrespected but side note: Why did Mookie show up to a late night interview wearing a cap and shades?
