THANK YOU! I remember when these first came out, someone had uploaded them all to RUclips, but removed most of the set over the years. I've been searching for the video of The Good Times are Killing Me for years. THANK YOU THANK YOU THANK YOU!
This is one of those bands that when I listen, my life plays like a movie in my mind. It's always so intense, beautiful, sad, hilarious, and existential. They've been around for it all and helped shape who I am. Not for better or worse, they just helped me feel every corner of this existence.
I watched this on public channel (pbs) living in Medford Oregon in a transitional housing program ,in a small single room on a old school box tv in 2004, I was like , holy shit!!! I love these guys, it was one of those moments, cause I only got 3 channels and I tuned this in on rabbit ears. Its a cool memory, love ya modest mouse!!!
This kind of music is sometimes what broken hearted people, suicidal people, depressed people, sad people, etc. need. Modest Mouse has brought empathetic comfort to my soul more times than I can count.
Hi 🍵 👋 yeah...that's why I'm here. My Mom is actively dying and just caught my man of 7 years (we have 2 littles) cheating on me with a student...on Christmas.
I was fortunate enough to see them when the played a string of sold out dates on the west coast following the release of Good News. It’ll be worth the wait.
Maybe if you had a time machine. That ship has already sailed bro. Seen them twice. At the most they played like 2-3 older songs. It was aiiiight at best.
When I was a senior in high school I was going through some narcissistic abuse from my parents and just ran away from home to stay with friends as much as possible. This one guy let me live with him and we listened to music all the time. We were in his car one day and he was letting me look through his CDs. He had The Lonesome Crowded West and all of a sudden got really serious and said not to mess with that CD. He said it was too important to him and he didn’t want anything to happen to it. He said it was the best Modest Mouse record and his absolute favorite and essentially just meant the world to him. I’d never seen a person get so serious about music before, have such a reference for it. Driving around smoking cigarettes and listening to Modest Mouse took me out of my head and helped me escape all the shit I’d been going through at home. And I understand now why that record meant so much to him. Because it means a lot to me too. Thank you, David.
Damn son. Thats really cool to know how Modest Mouse has had such a big impact on others, especially because its had an impact on me too. Thank you for sharing this lovely story and I hope for much healing for you!
Lol, your parents narcissistic abuse~ u mean every fucking parent alive?! You're not special in that sense, but u r special as is. Dont let anyone tell ya different
Rest In Peace Jeremiah, this was recommended so randomly on my Xbox (I don't sign in), and this just took me in, and looking up Modest Mouse the heartbreaking news of Jeremiah... Thank you for not only uploading but keeping the algorithm alive for people to discover and also to remember how much talent and passion people gave to music! Rest well Jeremiah and I pray the band still lives on!
GOOD NEWS.. came into my life same time my marriage was crumbling. I was driving 40 miles to visit my ex-wife in the psyche ward. Watching endless corn fields pass as the crushing weight was pushing the thin threads of my sanity to its own breaking point. That album was my sink or swim epiphany. I could stay w her and sink into my drug fueled abyss or learn to swim..
Modest mouse never was supposed to be the best sounding band. They're a band that never was filled with shred masters. But they certainly know how to write and play their instruments. To anyone who thinks this is a poor performance, welcome to a trailer trash underground band. Please move on.
Agree completely. The ragged element is part of the art. It makes the insanely genius lyrics and inventive musical approach and arrangements more effective. Crafted in isolation in trailer parks and lower middle class suburbs in the uncool portion of the west coast. One of a kind.
Isaac Brock and Modest Mouse has brought the sadness of sorrow and turned its beauty into an artform many of us thankfully are able to benefit from and to appreciate.
I really missed the boat with these guys. Discovering now in 2022. Wtf. Sure I loved the songs on the radio. Watching live is a whole new realm. Thanks brandyberry
Holy shit, where does time go. How does it feel like it was literally yesterday that I was a teenager listening to these amazing songs for the first time. If I find it’s hiding place will I get to go back, just for a minute?
Same. I used to listen to this version of world at large on RUclips as it was the only clip of the live performance on RUclips back then as far as I remember.
“If I find a hiding place will I get to go back” that’s beautiful. It’s crazy how much music can mean and how it can define a period of your life. Discovering Modest Mouse when I was a sophomore in high school felt like a God send. How can a man with a lisp yelling about how much the world sucks make you feel so good? The Lonesome Crowded West seriously probably changed who I am as a person. I wish I could go back and experience those feelings of first discovering them for the first time again
From ACL: "The broadcast rights expired long ago, and we don't have the rights to release the performances without the artist's permission. If Modest Mouse ever comes to us with an interest in releasing it, I'm sure we wouldn't hesitate. But we can't release something commercially (or even for free) without artist clearance." Maybe if we get enough people asking Modest Mouse to release this show they could finally release the full 16-song recording...
Yes. Them, Snow Patrol. The Killers. Keane. The last played at Fuji Rock Festival over in Japan. Pixies & Basement Jaxx. That was a top Summer. No iPhones all over the place too. Simply peeps absolutely and beautifully absorbing the wondrous vibe shared fed by beautiful eclectic passionate souls.
This Band changed my life and my perception of what Good music is, even though it sounds like it was recorded in a garage live on one track the feeling and song writing is amongst the best out there. You can polish modern MS music all you want but its still a fake piece of Shit.

I saw them in Spokane, Washington in July of 2011. I got in line 6 hours before the show and had watched all the live videos of them I could find at the time. I got front right facing the stage and had Isaac right in front of me. It was life altering and the best show I’ve ever been to.
