100%. I've shared this full concert video religiously since I was in college in 2003. Best version of this song ever. Doing the Cockroach is also up there.
When I first heard heart cooks brain on a snowboard trip, I came home and bought everything album these guys did … lonesome crowded west is the best BY FAR…. THESE GUYS ARE TRUE ARTISTS
Lyrics for the jam at the end: "Well I don't care about your state of denial cause I'm sittin' by the window with a saucer and a smile sayin' what's left, what's best, what's sex, was this death or just a test?"
Todd Gissell same lyrics from “Trailer trash Ice on the sheets” always thought it said “Saucy little smile” never made sense to me so I’m glad you posted this!
This was peak Modest Mouse at its finest. I saw them many times in the 2001-2003 time frame. Brock, Judy, Green, and Galucci is the best MM lineup there ever was and ever will be. I took my niece to see them this year and they were entertaining, but nothing like back in 2001-2003. I would love to see them go back to basics and ditch the Isaac Brock orchestra that now tours and makes albums.
It's such a goddamn good tune. I do believe it's my favorite MM song.. Well for the moment it is. Next week I'll say Spitting Venom is. Caught them live only once back in 2001 in ATL. Fantastic.
wow this is the most passion I've ever seen out of brock in a song haha. they are usually pretty tame. great performance. its rare you see a song played that beats the record this is one of those renditions that does.
At 6:10, he messes up the lyrics and says the desert with the rifle first. Instead of putting the pedal to the floor, the face he makes after saying the desert verse shows he knows he messed up. (It's not that I think the live version can't be different from the studio version but I feel that it is worth noting)
These people probably didn’t know that they were witnessing the single greatest recording of this song

6:20.... The look in his eyes
I think he really means it
Modest mouse is my comfort band
By far the best live version of this song ever!
Truth is, most of their live performances on RUclips lack... passion
just wait till you hear what they did in Portland 8/21/22
@@user-wt7zf1nq9s or Portland 11/26/22.

Extended version is the best. My top 3 favorite mm songs
Damn.
Bring back performances like this, please.

Golden casket is a masterpiece
A part of me wished that they included the last part in the studio version
Please cowboy Dan is trying to kill me and I'm scared I can't call the cops because they don't think he's real but he's staring at me

Rest In Peace Jeremiah… thank you for rocking the fuck out for 20+ years and giving me the best years of my life with your music
2 comments for this? This is like one of the greatest performances and renditions they have done of this song.
My favorite song to jam acoustic.
This is indeed by far the best version of this song, glad to have stumbled upon it.
One of my favorite songs over the years, not sure why it took this long for me to find this video. But damn glad I did.
Im surprised by how well he sings live
the fact that this doesn't have 13 trillion views really shows how far we've fallen as a species...
Agreed

Love everything involved here. Thanks!
Damn they sure know how to build up a groove and just rock it.
This version of this song is why I always prefer a (good) live performance over an album version.
9:26 such an infectious groove there from Jeremiah. RIP

Cowboy Dan wasn't real but than he was there and he's always coming after me, I locked the door and he's trying to get me

Cowboy Dan controls my life and he's forcing me to create a Facebook for him. He says he the major player and things will never change.
HE DIDNT MOVE TOTHE CITAYY , THE CITAYY , MOVED TO ME
