Weirdly enough I’m realizing I’ve been a fan of Modest Mouse for like 20 years but never seen Isaac talk for an extended period of time. I’m loving this! He’s not what I expected, but in a good way. What a unique dude.
Isaac Brock didn’t like doing interviews back then, but he’s starting to do them more often. In my opinion, I think he’s doing more because it ends up bringing more attention to his band and in turn more money for his family. Still waiting on his Hot Ones interview.

I've been a fan of Isaac's bands since I was a teenager. So almost 20 years now. I still regularly listen to his music (and play it as a guitar player of two decades who also just picked up drums 8 years ago). I actually just learned the main Truckers Atlas drum groove and have been playing it constantly lol. Jeremiah's playing was a huge reason why I also picked up drums after playing guitar most my life. So between Isaac and Jeremiah I'd say there's a lot of inspiration to go around. I also build tube amps and guitar pedals as well as restore and repair them (and old tube radio receivers when I get the opportunity) so I absolutely get the pedal obsession. I'm one of those guys who's likely to start a pedal company, build some stuff that I put all my heart into, then go bankrupt and have all my pedals end up in the "we gotta charge you something" box lol.
@@futuresmiles5797 There is a really stripped down tutorial of it on here by a guy who's channel I think is called Cobb TV. Im working on keeping time on my left foot now like Jeremiah did which will help with those off beat accents. Anyways I hope you're able to learn it quickly cause it really is such sick groove.

I am not a huge Modest Mouse guy, but I would very much like to sit and have a coffee with this dude and talk about books. The chaos in his heart is incredible.
The music world needs people like this so we don't have to. That is the opposite of my home studio - one of what I need, nothing more. That's my sound. Good night.
I love songs that have clever and meaningful lyrics and I love Modest Mouse. I never knew much about him other than he writes some wickedly clever lyrics and music. It's nice to know he seems like a decent guy and is probably a lot of fun to work with. He's made some of the most original music I've heard in the five decades I've been around. Thank you Isaac.
I met Dr. Brock in the late 90’s at 1st Ave. He was claiming to be the “extreme sports coordinator” was riding around before the show on a razor scooter through the crowd- arranging pool matches between strangers. He told me that they were gonna raise the stage up a couple stories, and then just show video of the band. At the end, the band was supposed to bungee jump off the stage. I told him it was a bad idea…but it wasn’t. Later that night they were taking requests and I shouted out “trucker’s atlas” and they played it. Nice memories.
If you think you need a lot of gear, just remember this dude recorded some awesome stuff on his answering machine. (Kids, look up what an answering machine is)
That 5 second bit of Doin' The Cockroach before the pedal section just led to me spending the most money I've ever spent on a vinyl record...what an album.
I think about Isaac Brock all the time because of that one interview where he said the band gets drunk and runs over dogs in the van, then years later in another interview he said someone once wrote article an saying the band gets drunk and runs over dogs in the van. It’s just such a funny weird time thing, the way this one story bridged between the first interview (early in their career) and the second (after they became popular) and the fact that the article actually wasn’t making it up but rather was referring to an interview that even Isaac had long forgotten-and probably he was drunk anyway-is for some reason really funny to me. Any time I hear about vehicles striking dogs, which is surprisingly often because I live in a place where very little happens except for the dogs and cars stuff.
He’s right, the Cure did write many of their songs on a Bass VI. Robert owns a ton of vintage Bass VI’s (over ten apparently), and he tends to start writing songs with bass lines first. But they’ve used Bass VI’s since 1981. They even have a song “High” which features two Bass VI’s at the same time.
Omg Isaac Brock has gained a huge amount of equipment and a huge amount of weight. Last time I saw him in-person he was a lot more fit. Modest Mouse Mouse was by far my favorite group in the 90’s

Buy it to try it.... Forget it, find it, love it, and lose it until you find it again... I can relate to this mentality.
Made me happy to see Jeremiahs kit in there. Miss him.
RIP
wow, the blues driver is so integral to the modest mouse sound that he still has it on his pedalboard alongside those crazy ones.
That 11 seconds of whatever he played on that pedal needs to be my new wake up alarm
Straight up!
I need that fleshed out for about 5 more minutes, please and thank you!
Would love to spend a week or two with Isaac in the studio just to see what would come out of it.
I am not a huge Modest Mouse guy, but I would very much like to sit and have a coffee with this dude and talk about books. The chaos in his heart is incredible.
This is such a great video. I wish I was able to hang in the ice cream party studios to just listen to Isaac all day 🤣🤣🤣🤣
This guy wrote music that’s saved my life many times
Glad to see he’s doing alright in these days
I would kill to play around in his studio for one day
The music world needs people like this so we don't have to. That is the opposite of my home studio - one of what I need, nothing more. That's my sound. Good night.
This guy is so fearlessly into what he’s doing he probably never gave a shit if he’d be successful at it, and that was his super power.
Issac Brock is so portland I once met him in AndyandBax buying a cast iron skillet to take trout fishing 🎣
A more Portland experience has never been had.
Had the pleasure of bagging groceries for Isaac at New Seasons 7 Corners back in 2012. Cool dude.
My favourite musician, excellent video!
This is the video I’ve always wanted, can’t thank you enough for this
I could listen to Isaac Brock talk all day.
Such a cool, unique dude. My favorite musician always and forever.
I love MM and always wondered about their songwriting process. After watching Isaac explain everything in this video, I think I understand!
so looking forward to Modest Mouse at Toronto this weekend!!!!
go Issac!!!!
I was there
I love songs that have clever and meaningful lyrics and I love Modest Mouse. I never knew much about him other than he writes some wickedly clever lyrics and music. It's nice to know he seems like a decent guy and is probably a lot of fun to work with. He's made some of the most original music I've heard in the five decades I've been around. Thank you Isaac.
Thank you! Thank you for making this! ☺️☺️☺️👍👏👏👏
I don’t remember what it does , but it made me happy 6:55 lol I love Isaac 😂
(Kids, look up what an answering machine is)
I remember I had a couple songs of his(off of Limewire) of those old phone recordings. Wish I still had those.
@@adriansoliz9224 they should be on Sad Sappy Sucker by MM
@@chrismartin3197 yes this true
1:40 - this guitar is ICONIC
That looks absolutely magical. I think one of Korn dudes had a palm-activated Floyd Rose like that.
Ya got 1 2 3 4 5 6 6 6.7K views in 6 hrs.. & I am super amped for this gear vid, holy heck
Growing up watching their music videos, I’d expect nothing less!
Always a pleasure to see inside the studio of a creative. If there were a 'swear box,' it would be absolutely full of cash by the close of the video 😂
