Also, shoutout to their RT-20 pedal being a killer rotary sim that still sounds better than 99% of anything that's come out since. Also, the DD20 is a hall of famer. Boss always so ahead of the curve even if we don't realize it at the time their stuff is released.
Had one on my board for about 8 years and I don’t wanna replace it, even though it’s massive it’s just so great and is probably the best looking pedal boss has made
Excellent overview of a great pedal. You cover all the features straight and to the point with no bullshitting around. Great job and thanks for the demo.
What a phenomenal demo and overview... You do a better job than "reverb" and some of the bigger channels. You're in tune (I wish other people would take note) , you play really well, just everything is great. I don't think boss is going to come out with a smaller format of this unfortunately... But that's okay. This pedal packs a ton in for its size
@@EricMerrow I actually already did on reddit since someone bought this pedal. "r/guitarpedals" Hopefully you'll get some subs out of that, but either way keep up the phenomenal work!!
Thanks so much for making this video I’ve been wondering how at 2:00 how that sound was made because it’s in a song called tyrants by catfish and the bottlemen and I didn’t know how they make it but now I know thank you
Your demo is mind blowing m@n ...i love that device it delivers a so unique texture... im gonna get one ASAP coz this shit is so real as a killer Tape Delay + Spring Reverb !!!!!!
Hi, first I want to thank you for your videos. They're the most interesting I've ever seen with on time demonstration and variation of all the differents actions that we can make in real time. My question : I hesitate between a SpaceEcho RE20, and the boss DD8 to plug in my pedal board and atmospheric delay and reverb. I'm not sure that we can have all the same possibilities with the RE20 as the DD8, but I'm not sure that the DD8 is the one that I need because I can't find a good demo video. Sorry for my english... I'm french :)
Thanks for watching! I've not used the DD-8 but my guess is that its a straight delay pedal. So you might have extra functionality with the RE-20. However, if you're looking for a more simple approach, the DD-8 may be the way to go.
Sorry this is a bit late, hope it's helpful still. The RE20 is a replica of a famous tape delay unit (back in the day they used short loops of tape as an early form of delay). The dd-8 has a tape delay setting, but also lots of different types of delay. I would go with the DD-8 for versatility-- it does a lot of different types of delays decently well. This RE20 has a lot more options for tweaking the tape delay sounds, but it only does one specific flavor of delay. I have a DD20 that's been my go to delay for 10 years now, I think you'd dig the flexibility of the DD8
Calazans those dots on the chart represent what is active in each mode. So it tells you how many playback heads are active and if reverb is on or not. Thanks for watching!
I think you’re referring to the playback heads? On analog space echo units, there are multiple tape heads that record and playback the audio so you get different rhythmic repeats by using only certain tape heads. It’s pretty cool to mess around with!
@@reazallykhan that behavior is correct with most pedals including the space echo. So there’s no way (other than the one you described) to power off the pedal
Could be a couple things. First, you just might not dig the sound of it which is totally valid. But also, tape delays are usually a bit thinner and grittier sounding than analog or digital delays so that might be at play too. Either way, thanks for watching!
I’ve got this pedal since almost 1,5/2 years now. And I am struggling for decent sounds. Mostly I use a slapback and sometimes I practice some ‘timing tricks’. And that’s it. Every review I have seen and people say how fantastic this pedal replica is. And I am struggling for surfsounds and Pink Floyd stuff. And I cannot find setings anywhere, I do find settings for Catalinabread Echorec and Strymon El Capitan though. But why? I changed the pedal to Long Mode and I think I got something here. Can someone help me out? Or should I buy an Echorec 😂
You likely won't until you get an actual tape machine (any 1/4" machine can be run through a mixer to create delays, likely what Pink Floyd used on Dark Side of the Moon -- there would be as many as 5 tape machines running at once!) or a space echo. Best bet on a budget are the T-Rex offerings. You could also try some of the plugins. Audiothing makes a terrific space echo emulation, as does Valhalla. Still, tape vibes are poorly reproduced as there are far too many variables and idiosyncrasies in a tape machine to really nail that tone.
I'm sure there are pedals with comparable features out there in a smaller package! I'd love to see Boss make this in their new 200 series! thanks for watching
Great for live stuff but I was sad to see they went the "clean and sterile" BBD route, unlike the EP-3 clone MXR did that allowed for dirt, wear and grit (which sounds killer in the studio). The RE-20 self oscillation is spot on though, love that! I made a quick video about theem here if interested: ruclips.net/video/RFNa6cqx5ps/видео.html
D O thanks for watching! That sounds like a cool combo! Does the DD-7 have an oscillating function when you hold the switch? I know the DD6 does in its warp mode. You can probably get similar sounds with your combo, but the RE-20’s delay would be voiced a bit differently and you’d have access to multi head delays.
@@EricMerrow Very cool to get a reply from you! You're definitely correct that the voicings would be a bit different. The RE-20 would be a fun pedal to play with, and I'm sure it would take me into different sonic ranges than my current setup. I guess what I mean is, for my particular style, its all I realistically need. I only use a fraction of the ranges offered on the RV-6 and DD-7, so I suspect the RE-20 would offer a lot of stuff I probably wouldn't utilize. Love your channel, bud!
why are you comparing a tape echo emulator to a multistomp? Alcohol is also probably more fun and versatile, but I wouldn't bother making the point ...
Gotta give it to Boss - these are probably 15 years old now and they still sound absolutely amazing.
Definitely! Thanks for watching!

Can you set it so when you step on a pedal the rate temporarily increases?

Is this only for guitars? Or does it work on voice as well?
You could totally use it on your voice if you get an xlr to 1/4” adapter
Kevin Parker of Tame Impala uses it on his vocals quite a lot

If I recall correctly, the right footswitch turns the pedal on and off
