    James, 7 years later and your video is still very useful. Thank you so much for this video. I used an expired driver's license card as well as an old credit card and they worked perfectly.. My previous technique on a donor phone involved shoving a pencil and prying up which lets just say didnt look very nice and definetely marked the battery as unusable with all the dents on it...

    Thanks for the tip about using ISO alcohol, I actually already knew and have done that on other unrelated-to-electronics things, but it didn't occur to me to use it during battery replacements. Ooops! It's almost magical the way it can infiltrate and break the bond of a lot of different adhesives as well as a few kinds of coatings, such as those rubber? over-molds that become sticky due to time and exposure to who knows what. I also use denatured alcohol for some stuff, mostly cleaning off surfaces contaminated by unknown light oils & films, but it is more volatile and evaporates noticeably faster than ISO.

    I don't know if the glue has changed on the sticky strips but the isopropanol didn't work for me. I used up a bunch of playing cards, but they just kept breaking apart as I soaked them with more and more alcohol to keep trying to get them to slide up under the battery.

    Thank you…I think the amount of surface area covered with the adhesive is overkill by far. I used your plastic playing card with 91% isopropyl and it took some finagling, but was able to work it loose without bending the battery. When I installed the replacement battery, I only applied one of the adhesive strips instead of both, should I ever have| need to replace it again. Thanks for the tutorial.

    this totally worked for my iphone se (2016) where the pull tabs broke off. I just used the cardboard that the case came with that is a little thicker than playing cards and cut out playing card sizes. Took a bunch of tries but eventually it worked. probably better with the playing card bc its more plastic/durable. Also when I got past the first tab, I pulled up to expose the other tab, but rather than risk pulling it up further, I had access to the other sticker pull tab and just pulled it out. So keep that in mind, if you start prying up and have access to the sticker just pull it out. But without this technique I would've been lost. And would have been effed! Bc I need my phone for work .

    First tech guy to use gloves when handling the phone with care, kudos on that. I do the same when installing MB's/Components in PCs. Just one question: Do you use something like a Giottos Rocket blower to clear the lens of dust when it's opened to replace parts; upside down is best, letting gravity keep away anymore dust when reattaching the back (I do this with DSLR sensor cleaning / changing lenses.) What a shame, this is now considered a repair...really miss my S4 and N4 for swapping batteries. I really don't care about IP68, I don't poop with it nor swim with it. BTW, can you still get OEM S7 batteries for a battery replacements? If so, I'll dig more into using your service, and also, can we get the phone returned without adhesive on the back cover, maybe just double sided tape to make it easier next time, the otterbox defender keeps it tight enough. Thanks again!

    • @TheArtofRepair
      @TheArtofRepair  3 года назад

      Yea, while unfortunately my gloves have gone from 6$ a pack for almost 60 so iv stepped back a bit on them lol, but in terms of glass down. Yes, this is the key for proper glass installs across the board.
      In terms of getting batteries for replacements. I don’t know if any batteries outside of a service center “and the phones discontinued” so all the current “new” batteries might be bad or old.
      You can still get a new cell though. Or a mew battery overall. Doesn’t need to be Samsung’s and it will work just fine.
      I actually don’t and have never done repair service via mail in so I’m not sure I could help you in any service :(
      I appreciate the comment and view! Hope to have you as a sub :)

      @@TheArtofRepair Thanks for the quick reply...that stinks, no more OEM batteries from Samsung for the older models. Too many bad experiences with 3rd party batteries for the S4/N4 when Samsung OEM batteries were not available (some were fake too, had the Samsung label but no NFC and couldn't keep a charge and phone reboots or were old batteries sold as new.) Anyways, my S7 camera is much better than the phone I just got now, the S20 Ultra...even though I got it for $700 new, I'm going to return it for the iphone 12 Pro. The cameras are better and consistent (my S7 captures all colors correctly at every distance, the S20, can literally erase reds or turn them gray, can make yellow into white...every shot varies in terms of what you'll end up with.) Now with the 21, there's no reason to stick with Samsung, esp. in three years from now where you can get a OEM replacement battery from Apple directly....thereby extended the phone life another 3 years, so it's amortizing $1000 over 6 rather than 3 to 4 years + battery cost. Thanks again for the review. I hear you on the gloves, even you if would have to pay more and I mean a lot more, I can't even get nitrile Kimberly-Clark / Halyard gloves anymore. Paper towels and any cleaning goods too, esp. P&G, a combination of gouging probably from both sides (store/manufacturer) and don't even get me started on the games P&G plays, you never know how much you are getting from Mayonnaise to toothpaste and paper towels, always changing the size/quantity but keeping the same price.

    Good video, but Samsung batteries are not really a challenge. Huawei fo example P9 is much more difficult, very soft and lack of space to pry. Also I stopped playing with cards, now I'm only using Plastic Card Pry from aliexpres or "Nano Plastic-Steel Doors Joggling Bypass Tools Lock Opener" those I can cut in any shape I need because they are 80mm x 230mm.

      I would just soak the end of the card in iso andl et it sit there at an access channel. Iv met some pretty restricting devices in my time. Never met a one that my trusty cards couldn't handle. Iv used the plastic cards, I just feel like they are a little too rigid for my style of repair. But they do work well. there is no doubt about that!
