I checked out several iPhone 6s battery replacement videos before changing mine and in my opinion, this is the best one. Clear voice, good camera work, no skipped steps and no wasted time. Well done and thank you!
I made sure I bought a kit that included everything: adhesive strips, large suction cup, tools, etc. It cost a little bit more than just a bare battery, but worth the extra cost.
Rick, another point. When putting the new battery in, it is MOST important to make sure that the battery is pushed to the left (ie away from the battery connection point) to allow the battery connection tag and plug clearance to move up and down. Otherwise the connection tag can be jammed in a protruding position and has to be folded over with all the risks of breakage.
One way I've found to keep all the small screws in order is to use a flat refrigerator magnet. You can place them on it mimicking the placement in the phone, and it also keeps them from rolling or getting knocked off your work surface.
Thank you for being like the one person who also showed the reassembly instructions and how to apply the adhesive strips. For some reason nobody else seems to show that part.
Watched several guides on replacing the 6S battery because I've never done a phone battery replacement before and because I always wonder what each person that makes one of these videos is missing or not explaining correctly. Based on all the videos I watched, this one is definitely the most thorough. Just did my own replacement with a kit almost identical to the one used in this video (mine had a 2750 mAh battery pack) and had no significant issues. Hardest part is getting the screen adhesive lined up and stuck down just right but I got it after a few tries. Great video. Thanks!
This is the 2nd time I watched and followed you on changing out the battery. I'm saving this video for when I need to change it out for the 3rd time. Thank you
Awesome video, it was exactly what I needed in order to successfully replace the battery from an old phone that completely died. Thanks for posting this!
This is probably the best video for the task. Thank you for making it. I spent $50 at the Apple store 6 months ago for a new battery. They broke my screen during the replacement, so they installed a brand new one. However, only after 3 months the "new" battery started draining again and the phone behaving in weird ways. No way I would take my phone to the Apple store again. Your video took away the mystery and the fear of replacing another battery by myself. The operation went great thanks to the potential pitfalls you pointed out in the video. After the installation I cycled the battery to full charge and full drain 2 times so far and it's working great. I doubt that Apple bothered with conditioning the battery. Perhaps that's why it started failing so soon.
Yay! I did it! Pulling the sticky stuff out from under the battery was tricky because the phone is old and they both broke. But a little patience and a credit card, slowly, slowly (not to dent or bent the battery) and I did it! I'm so proud of myself. I did have to use a magnifying glass tho. Man, those screws are small and I'm old! Thank you for your advise to keep the screws in order right from the start. That helped a lot. Turning the phone on before you close it, helped too - very smart. Great video - thanks a lot.
Extremely grateful. I bought a BOANV 2750mAh battery to replace my bad original iPhone 6S battery. I followed your video step by step and installed the new one and tested, it's charging now. A tip in my experience might be of some use to others: when pulling out the adhesive strips, I thought I broke the first one because the black piece on top of the white adhesive broke away and the white piece jumped back underneath the battery. For the 2nd one, I pulled it really slowly and had to change hand moving my other hand close to the bottom of the white piece to minimize possibility of it breaking, which was off in one piece. Then went back for the first one, while I was desperately looking for solution to a broken adhesive strip, I noticed a tiny piece of adhesive, a life-saving straw! I picked up it with the tweezers and pulled the tiny end super slowly as if it would break any time while changing hands. It was off finally in one piece. Thank you very very much!
Best video for the 6s. Looks to me like you’ve done this before. I did mine and put it together after powering it up. Went to charging it and nothing happened. Took it apart again and checked connections. Connector next to battery connector must have dislodged when removing battery. Snapped it back in, plugged in charger and everything was ok. I recommend when you’re testing for the screen coming on to plug in charger momentarily. If everything checks out then close up phone.
This is the second iPhone 6s battery replacement video that I've watched and decided BEFORE reading the comments that it was the only one I needed to watch. Guess I got lucky! Thank you so much for what you've done. Subbed!
Thanks to this video, I successfully replaced my battery. Before starting, I discharged the old one. After removing the display, I took out the vibrator to get the straightest pull on the adhesive strips. I believe this is why I got them out without breaking. I did not preheat the chassis. I scraped off gasket remnants with a toothpick, alternating with an alcohol-moistened Q-tip and puffs of air. I carefully determined the exact battery position to minimize stress on the connector. I had to deform the cable some to get a mate. It was tricky getting the new gasket registered. My big tense moment was mating the three display connectors. I couldn't feel them slipping into position, I had to make my best guess and just push until they snapped in. One turned out to be wrong and the display didn't work. Sweating bullets, I tried again and got it right. Challenges notwithstanding, my only regret is not doing it sooner. I can go all day on a charge again!
Using your steps, I just completed the replacement of the battery in the handset. Now I will go with the two charge-discharge steps you have described. I found that the removal of the adhesive from the battery as well as the edges of the metal case was a little tricky. Further, the left-top screw holding the screen-connector metal plate was a little difficult to remove. Thank you.
Thnx Rick for the great video, couldn’t have done it w/o it. My experiences : 1) I had to use a hairdryer 2-3 times to finally get the seal soft enough to get the blue pick into the seam to open the case. 2) I believe someone already mentioned that it’s important not to get the new battery too close to the contact tab side of the battery compartment. Otherwise the contact ribbon is difficult to get properly positioned as well as the contact tab. 3) I had difficulty getting 1/2 of the new seal to transfer to the phone housing. I carefully removed the seal from the blue transfer film and gently placed it into position. The video, tool kit and hairdryer were an absolute necessity! Thank you !
Hair dryer was needed for me too! There was no way the ring on the provided suction cup could stand up to the force needed to make that little gap in the 2 halves otherwise! Another video said heat the phone until its almost uncomfortable to touch but I was hesitant for that! I heated around the seams of the phone until it was warm, kind of like the phone had been used too much and was heating a little, nothing to dramatic and that worked fine!
This was the best instruction video I've ever used. It was very clear in the whole process from beginning to end. You have saved me so much in repair fees. Thank you!
I agree with all previous comments, this was very detailed & complete - However, ALSO High Jeffreys video @ 12min 23 sec was EXCELLENT, including some unexpected surprises that may occur, detail about attaching BOTH adhesives & names each part & cable (also changed LCD screen) . Honorable mention to High Tech Dad, step-by-step & some "1st timer" mistakes that if you watch it, you may avoid those same mistakes.
Battery removal started with fishing line, ended with old credit card cut in half, but finally worked. Other operations went well. Thanks for the video!
Thankyou for a great video very easy to follow and this was a job i would not have tried with out your help i am a senior of 77yrs old and you saved me alot of money
I found a can of baked beans worked just as well!!! Seriously thought, excellent tutorial, I replaced my phone battery and my daughters phone battery with the help from this. Thanks!
Thank you so much for sharing this! I used your tutorial to replace a battery on an old iPhone 6s and it was successful!! I did have slight complications because the one old adhesive strip under the battery kept tearing. Thankfully, my husband was able to use an ultra fine tool to pry it loose.
I love my 6s…..as an audio producer the audio mini port is a keeper! Just ordered the Amazon kit. Since I’ve worked on most of my apple products, I should be able to do this! Thank you!
Great video … but I think you need to point out at the beginning that you only need to remove the glue strips around the edge of the phone if you have the replacement’s in your kit,as some kits don’t have new glue frames in.
Great video. I just changed my battery. I did not have those adhesives to pull to take the battery out so I took it out by using dental floss. Just pried it under to disconnect the adhesive. Phone is now charging, very informative video, thank you for that.
Great video. Another video I watched uses that plastic spudger thing to push back the black adhesive on the battery (at about 6:15 in this video), so that you don’t run the risk of poking the battery.
excellent video! Went very clearly step by step. Nothing left out, nothing added. I did have a little trouble getting the sticky stuff around the edge of the phone applied, so most of it is left off in my phone, but you had mentioned that it wasn't REALLY needed, and I plan on using my phone mostly on my drone, and for email and youtube. I have a more current phone as my main phone. But again, your directions were perfect! Thanks so much for them! My battery came with all the needed tools, so piece of cake! Those screws are tiny... don't drop them!
@@Rickmakes I just carried out the battery replacement on my iPhone - seems to have gone to plan. A nervy procedure, but found your video to be the best out of several I had watched in preparation. Thanks again
I was intimidated at first but after watching your video I went ahead and changed the battery in my old 6S so I can donate it. battery life is back and you made the process very easy for beginners like me. Thank you for sharing this valuable information.
It was my first time ever doing anything like this and I followed your videos instructions and I did it! Thank you so much for sharing this video and helping me save money by replacing my own battery on my iPhone 6s.
My first battery swap on a phone. I followed the steps in this video. PERFECT!! When I powered up the phone before closing it up and saw the Apple logo, I was elated 😊. I would not have been able to change out the battery on my old 6S without it. To RickMakes, thank you for posting this video.
Thanks so very much! I did it just like you described and would not have been able to without your help!! I wish I had ordered my battery from your link but hadn't found your channel yet. Next time, if there is a next time, I'll try and remember to.
Thanks Rick, your video was very clear and your commentary cool, calm and collected without a hint of panic. I changed the battery and the charging port. I snapped one of the battery adhesive strips so had to prise the battery out but then found if you twist the strips as you pull them out they are less likely to snap.
Great video, nice and clear instructions, thank you 🙂 Just replaced the battery on my old 6S; there were no instructions with the new battery so this video came to the rescue. I tied the screen to a tin of chicken soup using an elastic band! 😆 Several years ago I replaced the battery in my old 5S and removed the screen - I managed to somehow damage the screen connector (even though I was super careful with it), so this time I left the screen connected. I managed it okay, but if you are leaving it in place like I did, be careful as the connectors are very fragile. Thanks again for a great video 👍🏼 from Cambridgeshire England.
Thanks for posting this. It's 2022 and I'm still using my 6s. I had the first one replaced for $30 by Apple under their "warranty." Now, I'm about to do it myself. Step 1: Back up your phone...
great job!!! but is it necessary to take the screen completely off (ribbons disconnect), it looks like you can clear the battery from the side? thanks!
It could probably be done but I prefer to remove it so I don't accidentally break the cables while removing the elastic adhesive strips. I just find it easier to handle in general with it removed.
Thankyou so much for this video. It helped that I had an almost identical battery replacement kit as well but it was very easy to follow and I completed it *almost* successfully. I messed up applying the adhesive back on to the case towards the end but everything clipped back together just fine and the phone is working and currently charging in the other room.
Great tip using a heavy tin to tape the phone screen to . If you stick the phone down to a work surface I guess you wouldn’t even have to disconnect the screen , thus taking out another layer of complication ?
Very helpful video, thanks! Had a tough time getting the screen off with the suction cap provided, used the one that came with a Garmin, more beefy, worked fine.
I am doing A 6 plus from you really good instruction only slightly different config ( not same parts though note) I didn’t check battery connector for fit and my have to start over. It’s kinda terrifying to first attempt. Your Video Made it much easier it’s like trying to assemble an egg shell ! I had to stop a few times and consider It is logical but worth a second thought. So easy to make it into a toaster. I used an neutella jar so MABY that extra sweetness mad it go slower !
Your video was quite helpful. I did discover that I had a few leftover parts. I forgot to put the connector cover over the battery connector. Can I get by with no cover or should I order another kit to renew the seal and go back in? Thanks for all your help.
🇬🇧 Thank you so much for your very helpful tutorial. I've just bought a cheap iPhone 6S that had a dearly dead battery, which I have successfully replaced by following your guidance. Brilliant video. 😀👍
Thank you 🎉, you helped me change my battery it was easier than I expected and I found loose screws inside from when I had apple fix it 😡. It’s running like a beast mate
Thanks for your excellent video! Of course, my phone wasn’t exactly like yours…the manufacturer didn’t expose the tabs under the battery for easy removal. I carefully heated up the back of the phone to loosen the adhesive grip, then CAREFULLY and SLOOOWLY worked the spudger and a couple wooden popsicle sticks under the battery from the top. Like the warnings given, do not bend or puncture this or any LiPo battery. The violent fire that happens is incredible and you can’t put it out with water.
Thank you so much for your detailed video - i copied your steps / pause play /pause play - i have now completed my battery change and im very pleased - thanks again 😄
any tips for getting the digitizer cable to snap back in? Its the one in the middle. Step 22 in the ifixit instructions. They say not to press down in the middle of it. Ive tried several times pressing on each end and no luck. Is there a trick to that one? The other 2 snapped back with no issue.
Thanks so much. I was able to do it thanks to your detailed instructions. I wasn't able to pull the adhesives in one piece, so it was quite messy removing the old battery. Thankfully nothing exploded ;-)
Thank you for this detailed video, it was very helpful. I just bought the same battery kit from Amazon for my iPhone 6S and was able to successfully replace the battery.
Do you HAVE to take off the screen to remove the battery? Because I can’t get one of the screws out of the plate covering the connectors for the screen, can I remove tha battery without taking off the screen?
Rock, You’re going to be surprised. My wife’s 2016 iPhone SE wouldn’t turn on last week. Seems it’s a battery problem but we went ahead and got her a new SE. The surprising thing is that only today did I start looking at options to replacing her old SE battery myself. When I saw your video, I was very surprised at the coincidence! Glad you got yours working. BTW, I have an iPhone 6 that Apple replaced the battery on due to the recall last year. Lucky me. I didn’t read your description yet, you probably mention where you bought and the company that made your battery and replacement kit?.
From what I understand, my mother in law tried to get her iPhone 6 battery replaced by Apple and they wouldn't because it had a slight bend. I talked to her yesterday and she says it is working fine for her right now. I have another iPhone 6s battery coming tomorrow for my wife's phone. I had better not screw that one up. ;) I have a link in my description to the battery I used on Amazon.
Thanks so much for your detailed video My old 6s, case was quite difficult to open, once inside re-attaching cover cable connectors failed several several times, before finally stayed in place.
Just finished replacing my 6s battery, following your instructions step by step. My replacement kit was a "Luuzkla", the latest offering on Amazon. Honestly, I could not have done it without your video as the instructions included with the kit were absolutely useless. In fact, at the very end of their included "User Manual", they recommend "If you want to replace the battery more conveniently, I strongly recommend you to watch the video about replacing the battery on RUclips". Not sure if they were referring to your video, but it might have been helpful if they just included a link to your video on the first page of their manual. Only comment I have on your video is that it would have been helpful on the reassembly steps if you had reminded your viewers as to which screw was the oddball when reattaching the cover plate over the display connections as well as the orientation of the cover plate over the battery connection as I screwed up both of those when reassembling. I'm guessing you should be getting a lot of viewers as the 6s seems to be the last iPhone still getting IOS updates and a lot of them are still in use and will need their batteries replaced in the near future.
Cool video. I've never had a iPhone before and don't wish to give up the headphone jack so Ive been looking into get the iPhone 6s refurbished and all reviews are stating that it's the battery life of the phone at this stage that's a downside so it's nice to know that if it's a battery issue and nothing to do with the features and software at this point then I'm Good to get it as now replacement of the battery is an option to breathe new life into it.
I cannot thank you enough - simply an amazing video (though I used canned olives it still worked). I only wish I had looked at your video before I bought my battery so I could have supported you. ALL of your details were perfect - the BEST video for this project out there (I looked at more than 6) I am extremely grateful! My phone is functioning again ! Thank you Rick!
I need some help please i replaced the battery in my iphone 6 plus and put it completely bk together and its not powering on or charging please help me
Hi there I did all your steps as u did but when u placed the new battery there is a piece of metal connected to the connection port that is not laying flat it is sticking up and I am afraid to place the screen back on
This helped a bunch. Except I had to pry the old one out because both the adhesive strips snapped on me. That was not fun. Used a letter opener and some patience but she got pretty bent up. Oops
Great video. Thanks for the easy to follow instructions. Got a battery and install kit from IFXIT. I was able to rescue an old iPhone 6S to use as an iPod when traveling. This frees up my actual iPhone for calls and texts on the road. Great hint to use a hairdryer to soften up the glue. Tom in CT
I've done this and the button at the bottom is unresponsive , does anyone know what controls the operation of that? When I pulled the 3 ribbons out under the plate at the top one of the ribbons snapped. Don't know why we took that plate off since it doesn't prevent the battery coming out.
Hi, small necro commentary Is it mandatory to unscrew the screen? Seems like it’s just more comfortable to work and to allow replacing the adhesive all around, but if we don’t do that step it should be fine just plugging the new battery in without bothering with all that wouldn’t it?
thanks for the great video, however when I pull the adhesive behind the battery they snap and did not pull enough out so trhe battery is still glue on, any advice how to proceed next without settings things on fire ?
@@Rickmakes thanks for your quick reply, but I took a risky step to pry up the battery enough and manage to get the remaining adhesive with the tweezer and pull them out. Battery replaced and working now.
thanks rick!!! so no issues with it , still keeping charge as new? i tried to look for your kit on amazon, i didn't see it, so I went with another similar one Uoofide ips6, 3.8v/10.5wh, what do you think? 20$ kit......................
Hello. I just watched you video on replacing the iPhone 6s battery. I liked your easy instructions however I cannot download Coconut Battery for iPhone. Doesn’t seem to exist anymore. Any suggestions? I know your video is 2 years at this point but still very informative. I will subscribe. 4/19/2023
You can sometimes use an old credit card or floss to detach the battery but you definitely don't want to bend or cause damage to it as it could combust.
I recorded a short clip of opening the iPhone since I didn't show it in detail in this video: ruclips.net/video/dXOFg1jj564/видео.html

Those screws are tiny... don't drop them!
The best instructional video; gave me the confidence to do it! I ordered the battery in your link and did it. Now it's better than new. Thanks
Kudos for being concise and to the point
Thank you!
That's great! It feels good going beyond one's comfort zone and having success.
My first battery swap on a phone. I followed the steps in this video. PERFECT!! When I powered up the phone before closing it up and saw the Apple logo, I was elated 😊. I would not have been able to change out the battery on my old 6S without it. To RickMakes, thank you for posting this video.
That's great to hear!
Thank you for the comment and the tip!
My dad was complaining about his 6s dying too fast and watching this video helped me out a lot!
Great video, nice and clear instructions, thank you 🙂 Just replaced the battery on my old 6S; there were no instructions with the new battery so this video came to the rescue. I tied the screen to a tin of chicken soup using an elastic band! 😆
Several years ago I replaced the battery in my old 5S and removed the screen - I managed to somehow damage the screen connector (even though I was super careful with it), so this time I left the screen connected. I managed it okay, but if you are leaving it in place like I did, be careful as the connectors are very fragile.
Thanks again for a great video 👍🏼 from Cambridgeshire England.
Thanks, Rich! I replaced the battery in my iPhone 6S, using your video instructions. This is a very helpful video!!
That’s great! Glad to help.
Nice step by step instructional video. Thanks. I'll have to do our iPhone 6S soon.
Thanks for posting this. It's 2022 and I'm still using my 6s. I had the first one replaced for $30 by Apple under their "warranty." Now, I'm about to do it myself. Step 1: Back up your phone...
Backup is step #1 all the time.
great job!!! but is it necessary to take the screen completely off (ribbons disconnect), it looks like you can clear the battery from the side? thanks!
It could probably be done but I prefer to remove it so I don't accidentally break the cables while removing the elastic adhesive strips. I just find it easier to handle in general with it removed.
Thanks so much ... This video really helped me successfully replace the battery. Saved me $75 bucks!
Great video. Smallest dang screws I have ever dealt with. Very clear directions.
Thank you to this video, i already installed my ip6s battery within 1 hour. Risky you must follow the steps very well. 🙂
Glad it helped
Thankyou so much for this video. It helped that I had an almost identical battery replacement kit as well but it was very easy to follow and I completed it *almost* successfully. I messed up applying the adhesive back on to the case towards the end but everything clipped back together just fine and the phone is working and currently charging in the other room.
Good video. Very accurate, easy too see, and professional. Could not have changed my battery without your instructions. Thanks.
Great tip using a heavy tin to tape the phone screen to . If you stick the phone down to a work surface I guess you wouldn’t even have to disconnect the screen , thus taking out another layer of complication ?
Thanks man, awesome tutorial!!!
Thanks to you I was able to flawlessly replace the battery on my 6S! 👍🏽
Very helpful video, thanks! Had a tough time getting the screen off with the suction cap provided, used the one that came with a Garmin, more beefy, worked fine.
I am doing A 6 plus from you really good instruction only slightly different config ( not same parts though note)
I didn’t check battery connector for fit and my have to start over. It’s kinda terrifying to first attempt. Your Video
Made it much easier it’s like trying to assemble an egg shell ! I had to stop a few times and consider
It is logical but worth a second thought.
How much did you pay for the phone mate? And the battery price?
@@rovanpires3120 It was £30 for the phone and £17.99 for the battery.
WOWMAZING VIDEO! Can you tell me where to get the iphone 6s plus battery?
any tips for getting the digitizer cable to snap back in? Its the one in the middle. Step 22 in the ifixit instructions. They say not to press down in the middle of it. Ive tried several times pressing on each end and no luck. Is there a trick to that one? The other 2 snapped back with no issue.
Thanks so much. I was able to do it thanks to your detailed instructions. I wasn't able to pull the adhesives in one piece, so it was quite messy removing the old battery. Thankfully nothing exploded ;-)
I have to charge battery to calibrate leave for hour or so and discharge to zero ? And charge again
It was way harder than you make it look, but I did it!. And I only lost one tiny screw. Thanks!
Is there sometime to do with a Appel phone that has bean thrue the washing machine
Excellent video. Followed your instructions. I had some difficultly with the suction cup that came in the kit. Thank you.
Thanks for this video. My iPhone 6s is good to go again.
Outstanding vid, best I've seen for battery replacement. Worked perfectly for my 6S. Clear, concise, effective. Thanks!
Very good video even points out the screw sizes are different, has made DIY battery replacement straightforward and worth attempting thanks
You got me with the carrots vs green beans lol
Great info, I appreciate the video. I'll be coming back to this once my replacement battery comes in.
Thanks so much for your detailed video
My old 6s, case was quite difficult to open, once inside re-attaching cover cable connectors failed several several times, before finally stayed in place.
Thanks!
Thank you!
Glad it was helpful!
I need some help please i replaced the battery in my iphone 6 plus and put it completely bk together and its not powering on or charging please help me
Hi there I did all your steps as u did but when u placed the new battery there is a piece of metal connected to the connection port that is not laying flat it is sticking up and I am afraid to place the screen back on
Not sure which piece that is. Does it fold down? You might want to watch back through the video to see where it originally was.
Thanks buddy, just changed mine with your video playing !
Tom in CT
Got the same kit and watched this as I was putting the new battery in. All done. Thanks!!
I've done this and the button at the bottom is unresponsive , does anyone know what controls the operation of that? When I pulled the 3 ribbons out under the plate at the top one of the ribbons snapped. Don't know why we took that plate off since it doesn't prevent the battery coming out.
I can' get the piece at 4:58 off because I can only loosen and take out 2 of the 4 screws. They aren't moving or budging, I don't understand.
Are the screw heads stripped?
Hi, small necro commentary
Is it mandatory to unscrew the screen? Seems like it’s just more comfortable to work and to allow replacing the adhesive all around, but if we don’t do that step it should be fine just plugging the new battery in without bothering with all that wouldn’t it?
thanks for the great video, however when I pull the adhesive behind the battery they snap and did not pull enough out so trhe battery is still glue on, any advice how to proceed next without settings things on fire ?
You can try using dental floss to separate the battery.
@@Rickmakes thanks for your quick reply, but I took a risky step to pry up the battery enough and manage to get the remaining adhesive with the tweezer and pull them out. Battery replaced and working now.
Great video, but can you avoid removing the screen connectors?
I know a lot of people leave the screen connectors in place. You do need to be careful not to damage them.
thanks rick!!! so no issues with it , still keeping charge as new? i tried to look for your kit on amazon, i didn't see it, so I went with another similar one Uoofide ips6, 3.8v/10.5wh, what do you think? 20$ kit......................
Very useful. I changed battery watching this. Thanks
Hello. I just watched you video on replacing the iPhone 6s battery. I liked your easy instructions however I cannot download Coconut Battery for iPhone. Doesn’t seem to exist anymore. Any suggestions? I know your video is 2 years at this point but still very informative. I will subscribe. 4/19/2023
You can download it here: www.coconut-flavour.com/coconutbattery/
Hi i replaced new battery and after that it shows battery health and 65 percentage what can i fo
What is the next step if the adhesive strip breaks while removing?
You can sometimes use an old credit card or floss to detach the battery but you definitely don't want to bend or cause damage to it as it could combust.
