  • During a recent livestream I was asked how to prep for art galleries. What can you expect when you approach one with your work? How many paintings should be in your portfolio?

    I would go crazy with excitement if a gallery accepted my work and I am a beginner. Eventually I will make it and be famous, yes!

      the local museum is usually full of abstract art, the local place that sells art sells a lot of whimsical and sort or realistic art, which makes no sense since you would think if whimsical art sells a lot anc is popular, there would be more of it in the gallery.

    I’ve been painting for around 3 years now. Still trying to find my style. I get so inspired by pieces and get overwhelmed on honing in on my style but little by little I’m getting there. What would you suggest artist do to get seen? Apply to art shows? Instagram is NOT it and is so frustrating. I paint abstract. Mixing all the colors makes me happy. Where should a beginner artist start (3 years in and I still feel like a beginner 😆) I’ve sold many pieces and my art is hanging in a few shops around town. I love your channel! You’re so real

      I actually kept looking through your channel (just discovered you) and am finding some of those answers. Main question is where to start? Apply to art shows?

    I do have a suggestion to those artists out there, and this may seem to be an insult to some. But let me tell ya what I have experienced as a business owner in an artsy community with a couple of private art universities nearby. Businesses (esp coffee shops near hospitals (where higher clientele visit) and restaurants, country clubs, etc. have staged students' and others' art.... sometimes on consignment or some businesses may allow the artist to price it ..... but never overprice art, it is a turnoff to the customer, especially for a new artist not well known in the area.. I have seen art hanging with no price tag and a place card below the art with the background of the artist that has interested customers and sold faster than priced art. As a new artist, you have to give the customer the power to make an offer or negotiate to get your name out in the community.... and those clientele to market to each other at their bridge games and country clubs...yep. Once their name is introduced in the locale, then the interest will begin. But areas need to be selected in areas where people have $$.... not a college hangout town. Much interest in art has risen from this type of marketing. One has to start at a lower level and rise to success. It doesn't happen overnight. Good luck.

    Abstract painters OFTEN don’t seem to have to refine their work for acceptance in a gallery! Good abstract art is amazing! You don’t see it very often.

    TOTALLY 1000%!!!! The same goes for galleries or art shows that decide based on judges. If you don't know what the judges like you cut your chance in half. Also, find such galleries to be very snooty. Ever since I had my experiences with art judging, if there is judging... I'm out, no thank you.

      I stopped watching art contests like Painter of the year because I always found the judges didn't treat every style of art equally and contradicted themselves when judging the art works all the time. And they were super snobby

      In the last few years, seems as though people that judge events base their decisions on their specific preferences of music, art, dance, etc. We are losing creative, open-minded people. I am not sure if this is due to social media whereas many times seems that creativity and ideas are not born but mirrored. Expression of creativity is reducing with this young minded generation due to technology doing the work for them whether it be art, music, graphics, math, english, etc..... the environment is thinking for the upcoming generation.

    The old art gallery folks are snooty many times because they feel they have the power to say no, and they do and if these art gallery folks have tunnel vision and are stuck on old generational art or art of only their preference, they are 'rutted' and cannot move forward. They will remain in their position of preference and sell enough artwork to their old rich lady donators to make enough $ to survive to minimally justify their salary and position (ha especially in those galleries dependent upon sponsored and/or govt funded grants and the elite donators). Sadly though, these old donators will leave this earth and then grants will end then old snoot head will be working in a dead art gallery that will need new leadership of an open mind of creativity to the next generations. Many times, politics are involved.

    You don’t just walk in and demand they look at your work either….

      @maralfniqle5092 Год назад

      Of course one doesn't demand, that's already a snooty comment, galleries are full of it and I don't mean good paintings. You just need to be fashionably connected. That's a fact!

      @Lachri I'm a better artist than most, no need to be jealous. If that's the artist intention. Now go buy my art.

    I actually browsed galleries in my city a few hours ago... hardly any realism being displayed on these sites (or minimal-realism like my work) is seen on these gallery sites other than some photography. Most of the art with paint, pencil and all aren't realism. I also went to this gallery in Newport, OR and while there were realism involved, a lot of art were, in my opinion, low in price. A lot of them at the time I went there were less than $100 and some were actually well-executed. So, that's another thing I do look at: Too much "bargain" price art.
