    Just figured that I'd chime in for others that have this unmodified reel/hose combo. My OEM hose burst yesterday after less than a dozen automobile cleaning sessions. I went on Amazon and sure enough others, are complaining of the same failure in the reviews. Came here and again, others are commenting about their hoses failing. I called Giraffe Tools and they admitted that the early units had weak hoses and that the units that are shipping now have been upgraded. They said that the new hoses use the same material and look/feel the same, but that the manufacturing process was changed to make the hose more durable. I was happy to hear them own up to this issue and they'll be sending me a replacement unit. I'm not a fan of the original hose and thought I'd might upgrade at some point, but for now I'll continue with with the OEM setup when it arrives.
    If you do find a fitting/adapter to put a better quality hose directly on this reel, please share. I think a lot of us will be interested. And thanks for the videos!

      Interesting in the hose burst. They have always replaced products with issues. I reviewed a pressure washer form then and it had a bad squeak sound. They fixed that issue and changed their manufacturing process. I’m still trying to find the right fitting. Buying a few at a time till the right thread pattern is found. I think it’s metric so hit a few coming soon. I want to use it for a mobile wash cart to giveaway, but don’t feel right giving it with that repair kit on there. Worries it will burst on somebody.

    I like your reviews and the way you also figure out how to make something work for your need. Or the way most of us watching would try and use the products.
    I'm glad you took precautions when testing the hose under pressure. Kinda funny to see on camera but it's also nice that you put that in there to show that you aren't certain it's going to work but willing to try it and show us one way or the other. Which now for anyone interested, they know what to expect and what to get to do it right. Great video as always.

    I did something pretty similar i purchased a 80ft 3/8 air hose reel and swapped the old air hose for a 100ft 1/4 pressure washer hose. The smaller size diameter was just enough to close the gap and fully wind the hose properly. I did my research before performing this just to make sure i didn't run into any problems and to my surprise it worked! Knowing this im sure you could replicate it with similar size differences. Low key want to see if my 80ft 3/8 reel can hold a 100 ft 3/8 hose but i don't think thats how reels work.

    • @CarsWithKeav
      @CarsWithKeav  8 месяцев назад

      I’m still not ready yet to convert an air hose reel. I know so many have done it. Have heard mixed results, but nobody that has an issue will come forward to share the experience. I see the components mostly look the same on the Amazon ones, but it’s just scary to me if it blows out on me. The reason I think most have not had an issue is most detailers keep it at 1k PSI or less. If you tried 2k PSI it might fail. Depends on the hose. The gray hoses you see on Amazon are actually a good bit smaller in width than say a Kobrajet. I have seen several reels hold more than stated as well. Another issue would be the added weight in hose and water on the retracting hardware.

    My exact question. Am in the market for a 1/4" pressure washer rated PSI retractable hose reel. Coxreels has a puzzling, overly complicated, line and wont give me a straight answer on whether their 300PSI rated retractable hose reels can be replaced with an aftermarket hose and handle 1200 PSI. And their "Medium pressure" reels seem overbuilt and overpriced for the task. How they have so many different models and nothing specific for retractable pressure washer community is beyond comprehension to me.
    This seems a little too flexy and flimsy.

    • @CarsWithKeav
      @CarsWithKeav  6 месяцев назад

      It is a bit flimsy, but will handle the pressure. Giraffe is one of the only companies out there doing much with a pressure washer hose reel. People try to convert the 300 psi ones and it works for a bit, but many of them failed as they are not designed for high pressure. Have you given any thought into the fixfans one? I have it on my wash setup and it has been amazing. Accommodates 3/8 hose and it very stout. amzn.to/4aq1YS0 I have been using it for a good 8 months now and it’s one of the best purchases I have made.

    Can you use an Uberflex with an Active 2.0? Active site says the following: "To ensure proper operation, steel-braided hoses are strongly recommended when using this unit." Sometimes companies go a little overboard to make sure their product doesn't get blamed for external reasons and was wondering if that's the case.

    • @CarsWithKeav
      @CarsWithKeav  3 месяца назад +1

      I would not use one they will work, but there is a high probability that it will have surging. They recommend wire braided as it keeps the hose form expanding when there is lots of water flow. The Uberflex has nothing to keep its forms which is why it’s so flexible. That rubber expanding causes the pressure switch ti not properly stop. It’s always been suggested with 1.8gpm and greater machines to always use a braided hose preferably steel or Kevlar. You can watch the 14 minute mark in this video I show what the Uberflex does on a 2.0 vs the hose provided by Active which is wire braided. ruclips.net/video/LUyn_m_aYKc/видео.htmlsi=pDN4UDXrwwio_wmR

    how much was the wholesale repair part? your link goes to the male only i think

    • @CarsWithKeav
      @CarsWithKeav  8 месяцев назад

      I went with the male one because my adapters I had for m22 where female. The part was only like $8 and some shipping cost.

    • @Damascus65
      @Damascus65 7 месяцев назад +1

      @@CarsWithKeav I ordered the part listed in your description and have been attempting to install it on the cut end of my Giraffe tools retractable reel hose. After noticing that the female part that goes around the 1/4" Giraffe hose wasn't really catching on the hose in the same manner yours did in your video, I thought something was amiss. I installed it, regardless, and turned on the pressure washer. The hose immediately exploded. I noticed that my female part is MUCH wider than yours is in the video and does not look exactly like yours does. I wrapped black electrical tape tightly around the Giraffe hose to get it the additional width to have more purchase into the female end, and tightened it down again. Again, the pressure washed caused it to explode. I think something is either wrong with the part they sent, or perhaps your link does not go to the exact piece you purchased? Just wanted to warn others who may go down the same path I did, unsuccessfully... Hoping that when the part is back in stock in March and the ship the remaining part of my order (another 2 of the same part that I had to meet the $30 order min.) ships, that the part matches yours more closely.

      @us65 That's weird it's the right listing. My hose didn't have much tension with the screw down part either it basically just slid on there, but when I screw the other piece in it was holding real tight. That Giraffe hose has a small outside diameter compared to other hoses that are 1/4 inch. I am still working on a solution to adapt the housing instead of cutting the hose. Have some more fittings coming to try out.

    • @Damascus65
      @Damascus65 7 месяцев назад +1

      @@CarsWithKeav Interesting and unfortunate that mine is not the same when I tightened it! :( I will say that when you held your fitting up to the camera, the inside threading looks much more pronounced and deeper on the female end than mine does. My threads have no bit into the hose almost whatsoever. I wonder if ordering the 3/16ths fitting will change my luck, and perhaps I'll do that...
      If you do find another way to hook up the Uberflex, please update us and I will be forever grateful! As it currently stands, I otherwise have a $125 paper weight in this hose reel haha. Really appreciate your reply and for finding these solutions in the first place!

    Not a big fan of Giraffe. I have one of their wall mounted pressure washers. The hose is awful. The whole system will get replaced one day. They cheap out on one of the most important parts of a pressure washer the hose. I bought the pressure washer when I first got into detailing. I thought oh cool a wall mounted pressure washer. I got suckered. Hose is awful and its pretty noisy. I just deal with it. The job I have I work 6-7 days a week on a swing shift schedule at a steel mill, so I don't get a lot of time to do detailing. I only detail on my own cars and bikes. The reason this company is still in business is because of people like me newbs who don't know any batter. My advice is to anyone who is new to detailing even if you are just doing your own vehicles is do your homework on equipment and chemicals, subscribe to Cars With Keav, don't buy Chemical Guy, or Adams. There are way better chemicals out there for the same price or just a little bit more. Keav got this hose reel to do a review on. The first thing he did was change the hose it came with to a good hose. We shouldn't have to do that it should already come with a good quality hose. End of rant

    • @CarsWithKeav
      @CarsWithKeav  8 месяцев назад +1

      Agreed on products already coming with a great hose, but most manufacturers don’t do that so we got to change things to get what we want. The concept of the rectangle pressure washers was a good idea and for the price for somebody who really doesn’t care like we do it works. Now the G20 with the gray hose works quite well for me on my back porch area. Not really great for car washing when I got all the toys I do. Thanks for watching and the kind words.

      It’s his way to sell more products on his site. It’s all marketing. I ignore most of this type of stuff as I just want to focus on what I’m doing. I got way better numbers than he did. He had to have had a defective one. They are not the greatest products, but nobody else offers an all in one retractable solution. Their G20 is the best product the have and it’s cheaper.

    I am in full agreeance with OG being over priced and overrated. Like dude seriously $115 for a 8x18" Stainless Steel shelf & 2 bolts and wingnuts you can get for $50-70? Bruh. BRUH. No. That and the light fixtures you can get at ANY Home Depot or Menards or big box store for 60-70% of the cost. He's a total clown. Made a killing off of it, but still a clown for those who don't do their research and just want to learn to build their own stuff or even just go shopping.

      Yeah, I’m big in doing things myself and trying to find my own solutions. While also nit breaking the bank. He is milling his following and it’s working for him. There are lots of people with expendable income who don’t want to figure things out and want someone to curate them the ultimate experience. I don’t see any funny in that I think it’s a copycat type of situation with no originality. You no can always be inspired by something, but making your own little touches makes it so much more satisfying to me.

      Matt has no middle ground with people. They either love him or hate him. For most people he comes off narcissistic and elitist. He knows his audience though and they will follow him till the end doing exactly what he tells them is good for them. That can work for many people have somebody just pick everything for you they think is the best and of course it all the most expensive stuff. I myself don’t hate anybody really I like to see things from other angles and try products that are not well known and see if they would work for the budget minded. I could easily just pick everything Matt says to, but where is the fun in that. I also have attention problems and can’t sit through a 30+ minute video just rambling on and on.
