Which Hose Reel is Best? - Comparing the Top 10

- Here are the results in order of highest score to lowest score: (reminder, if you have feedback on any of these hose reels, let people know in the comments because it is legitimately helpful).
1. Hoselink (also the MOST expensive) : amzn.to/3PxUlRr
2. Glahoden (best bang for your buck) : amzn.to/3IO9mKW
3. Gardena : amzn.to/3IMfCDc
4/5 tie. Flexzilla : amzn.to/3TsFnxf
5/5 tie. Vevor (This was obviously NOT a long term test but if I had to guess which of these would wear out the fastest, it would be this one which makes sense because it is the cheapest option. Just had to throw this out there) : amzn.to/497s6jA
6. Giraffe (*NEW DEVELOPMENT* - Giraffe now has an option for a METAL BRACKET and since that was our biggest gripe for this reel, that alone would move this one up the list!) : amzn.to/3TLVPtQ
7. Blubery : amzn.to/4a0QMLI
8. Retracta: amzn.to/3vf5NdX
Side Note: If you are looking for garden hose quick connects, I did a video on the best of those also but spoiler alert, eley was the best: www.eleyhosereels.com/?rfsn=6...

I want to point out that the metal bracket for Giraffe wasn’t an option when I ordered 🤷🏼♂️.
BUT it is an option now and that one thing would have given the giraffe tools reels 2 extra points and would have put them at number 4 assuming all of us still didn’t pick it as one of our top 3.
I've have the Giraffe myself. I definitely agree that you should go with the 5/8 over the 1/2 in most scenarios.
@@YardGuy do you get more PRESSURE or just more gpm ? Thanks
Awesome video! Glad to have been part of this review. We'll improve our product and shoot for the top three next time😎
Glad to see a manufacturer in touch with their consumers and taking criticism!!! That earns you guys major points! 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻
I agree , it goes along way with me when someone looks at being better. Thanks Giraffetools.
@@82DieselBunny
And 100 points goes to Giraffe
@giraffetools I hope you do! If you guys get a first or second place next time with your 5/8" hose reel combo.... I would gladly swap out both my Gardena retractable reels for yours! I own a 4gpm pressure washer and my 2 half inch Gardena sets don't provide enough water to it. I need the 5/8" hose but don't want to spend $$$ on a crappy reel.
I bought the giraff and have been using a month now and LOVE IT. ITs smooth and just makes life easier.
I have 2 Hoselink reels, plus lots of their watering accessories. Have never failed me, worth every cent.
Thank you for including us in this test Lawn Tools, we are so happy with the results! Just a quick update on the price, our 82ft reel is $249, and our 50ft reel is $199.
Hoselink would definitely be my first choice if I could only get one in Hawaii...Please ship to Hawaii
Please ship to Guam
Love my hoselink!
Please ship to Puerto Rico
Also 100ft
Props to @hoselink for commenting in this thread. Good to see a company engaging with potential customers.
I have 3 Hoselinks I bought in 2012. All still work great!!!
Glad to know it has lasted this long. Don't want to buy something to have to replaced next season.
Purchased 6 hoselinks for our large property this year. One of them had an especially hard time reeling back in the last five feet and was constantly left out because it was so difficult. It was then damaged by a mower after being left out.
Emailed hoselink and they are out of stock of the repair kit. Not having the option to get parts when accidental damage renders the entire unit useless is a huge downside for us and I feel is something a lot of people don’t consider.
We now have a $249 hoselink that no one can use and cannot reel back in. Just something to keep in mind when investing in these. Check to make sure they are good about stocking parts or consider going with the more affordable options that are cheaper to replace.
Two years ago I wish I had this video after laboring for hours through videos to make my purchase! Ended up with two hose links and have been extremely satisfied and pleased especially with the retracting capabilities yet my wife can pull it all the way out with ease!
I have a Hoselink - it's been great. Did stop retracting a couple of months ago just under a year of ownership. They've walked me through some troubleshooting stuff and are now shipping a replacement to me free of charge. Only took two months because I took forever doing the troubleshooting stuff so that's not on them at all. Been a great experience. About to buy a second one.
Honestly, this is the best video you guys have done! Super helpful and informative.
We bought a Hoselink two years ago and absolutely love it. We plan on adding more for each of our gardening zones across our 7-acre property over time. My ex-Navy husband is particularly fond of not having to manually coil hoses lol. I like that they're easy to store, it's just a matter of moving the case off of the bracket in the fall and popping it back on in the spring. By the same token, for now we have several posts with brackets installed and because we only have the one reel, we just put it in the back of the garden cart and move it as we need. Never have to worry about running it over with the mower or anything else. Hard recommend.
I have a Hoselink and a Gardena. I have had nothing but trouble with the Gardena accessories- they leak and pop apart under pressure. The Hoselink works like a dream!
Is use Gardena now for more than 40 years and with the exception of a few adapters and a shower head, I have never had any problems. And the faulty parts were replaced without any problems. Plastic suffers over time and sun and becomes porous. You then have to replace it. But that's not a problem given the prices.
@@gerhardma4297 I bought new shower head and it leaks, so it can't be sun or time.
I solved problem with 'stopconnector' and putting shower head on and off every time i use the hose, kind of a pain in the but, but still better than flood.
Great review. 1 suggestion. When retracting, you should release the pressure from the hose until it is fully retracted. This allows the water to escape while it winds up and prevents excessive weight from slowing it down. Also, excessive weight being placed on the bracket, which is why many of the reels have plastic brackets. They were not intended to be reeled up full of water.
Imo that would reduce the effectiveness of the hose reel by a lot. Our Hoselink is hooked up and turned on all spring summer and fall, zero issues. Grab the hose and go and reel up when done. We dont walk to the spigot at all
@@Gatf4 how did you mount the Hoselink?
I just dug an 2 foot deep hole next to my house and used a green treated 4X4 with pea gravel. works perfect for us. I was going to mount it out at the end of our deck but got over ruled by the head gardener (wife/boss) but now she regrets it and she has to pull the hose all the way out to go around the deck to water one side of the yard lol @@MyweathernetreportsBlogspot
Good suggestion, but I think most ppl would just try to retract the hose anyways before going all the way back to turn off the water and come all the way back and retract the hose. So I think this test is good.
Relieve pressure then pull hose right at reel. There is no need to go back to the end of the hose🙂
We have had 2 hoselinks for around 4 years. Absolute game changer
Starting season four with my 82’ Hoselink. Love it. I water from a lake, and the pump pressure sometimes causes problems with my regular hoses, even blowing out several expandable ones. Never a problem with my Hoselink.
I've had a hoselink in the backyard for about 4 years now. Still works great. 0 issues. I recently ordered a 2nd one for the front yard too.
i have the gardena 2 times and one broke after one year, got a replacement within 3 days for free (super support) and i am still happy with it. so i would recomend it.
I recently bought a new home and wanted to upgrade to one of these, seeing the results and the company engagement in the comments I am quickly narrowed in on hoselink and giraffe! Awesome and perfect timing
2024 is the second full summer for my two hoselinks. I have found retracting much more efficient when water pressure is off and water in hose is sprayed out.
After seeing this video, I went with Glahoden for it’s value. I almost went with the Giraffe. I am glad to have it purchased from your link.
Great job with the review guys. It was straight forward and very informable! I have a Hoselink since July 2019 and it's been working great. My only gripe is the easy disconnect is well just too easy to disconnect. If you twist it the wrong way while the spout is open, you're going to get soaked. I also have a RL Flo-Master ($70) which I bought at the same time and it is still working fine as well.
Thank you guys!! You guys took the work out of my next purchase ❤❤❤
Very happy with Gardena. Have 2 of them. Retraction, ease of use and hose connectors all work better than expected.
how long have you had them? Do you leave it out in the winter?
@@ZupE891 I do and I live in Canada! Just outside of Edmonton. I have 2 Gardena reels each are 4 years old now. I drain the water out of them every winter, disconnect them and leave them outside year-round.
I have three Hose links. I had one issue getting it to completely retract. Their Customer Service helped me right away and have had zero issues since.
I had hoselink in the past, and now Gardena.
Gardena lasted longer. 5 of them....love it
That's great to hear!
Cool video, but I'll take my Eley hose reel over all of them. They're expensive, but I'm 0% concerned about them failing. I've also called their customer support a few times and a human answered the phone quickly each time. They shipped the wrong part once and just told me to keep it and sent the right one out without any questions. I have their reel, hose and quick disconnects. All of them are excellent.
I agree. Eley products are fantastic!! But in this video we were simply comparing retractable only.
Agreed , eley is the absolute best
My eley is soo solid, my giraffe faded and looks terrible installed at the same time
I sold 2 Eley’s … too much manual activity. Once you try the Hoselink, you’ll be amazed.
if you’re lazy I guess@@milanjurich1526
we have Hose link front and back had them for 6yrs now and no failure one is exposed to the elements and the other under cover and both haven't failed yet still going well hoses still brilliant no cracks and still flexible only issues is the fittings that fail when attaching the nozzles o rings perish overall Hose link is costly but it's well worth the lifetime. i would highly recommend Hose link I'm in Australia w.a as we have very hot long weather and cold the casing on the hose link reels are still very solid no cracks or perish.
Ive had 2 hoselink for years. Works flawlessly
Love my hoselink! High quality and a joy to use in the garden!
Glad to see this today as I just bought a Glahoden 100 ft 5/8" last night
I got 1 with coupon for about 135 Amz. Not set up yet. I do plan to get another for front yard as well
Nice work on the comparison, appreciate the efforts of filling 4 buckets rather than just one, proper analysis. 👍🏼
Yeah, but I really wanted to see buckets getting filled (/s).
I love my Hoselink. I do have 2 Giraffes also, simply for the fact that they offered a longer hose length (155 ft), which I needed. This may also be a reason to go with the 1/2. They don’t lock as easily as the Hoselink, and the charcoal grey has faded terribly. Still, serve their purpose well and in general both have been GAME CHANGERS in my garden. ❤
The charcoal gray Hoselink will turn to ash gray in one or two years if it is exposed to a lot of Sun. They sell a cover for it but then you no longer have a charcoal gray Hoselink. If they can't use UV resistant plastic then the cover really should be included with the reel.
I have a giraffetools hose reel with 155ft, it can cover my large garden and the water flow is enough! Love it!
Great video guys! Thanks for including us in the mix!
I have 2 Gardena's like the old design better with the handle, easier to carry inside in the fall. No problems with both but almost dropped the new one on the concrete floor.
@@christopherblack4520 Glad you enjoy them Christopher!
I bought a brand called Diivoo on Amazon (Canada, not sure if that is why is not in your list). Used it last year and was so amazed at the quality, water pressure, great retractability, and easy to pull out, winds in smoothly, very sturdy. I bought the reel when I was in the midst of looking up the Diivoo water timers, which I also bought and LOVE. Was on the cheaper end - 65ft reel cost me $165 Canadian.
I converted my home front and back hoses to Hoselink, even have the Hoselink 18mm commercial hoses for work (better water pressure and higher flow). Mainly did it because where I live in Australia fittings get too hot in summer (37-45°C most days) and blow apart or fall off. Hoselink has not failed me in the last 10 years. Only downside is the prices.
I bought 2 gardenas 2 years ago and they are both holding up like day day I bought them. Really really happy with gardena. I bought accessories for both of them as well and had no issues at all.
I’ve owned the 1/2” and 5/8” giraffe. Both worked fine. No issues. 5/8” in 100’ wasn’t an option back then. Good customer service too. One reel started leaking the following year and they replaced the entire thing
Dudes, this was great! There's a few others on the market that people may like but this was a great look and thanks for pointing out the 5/8" vs 1/2" volume
makes all the difference in the world if you use a pressure washer! If the gpm is lower than what your pressure washer uses.... you'll start burning out pumps and they are expensive!
I’ve got the Gardena. Been using it for 2 summers so far and I love it! Awesome quality and durability. No complaints with it. Living in Canada I definitely paid quite a bit more. If I remember correctly paid about $350CAD. All in all, awesome product!
Thanks for the comment and feedback on the Gardena!
I've had my gardena for 2 years now and it's faded but works well. Also have hose link but I like the gardena more. Hose link here in aus is big but the reel I have had has had multiple problems with retracting
The GARDENA reel is a clear winner here! The warranty is the best and the those German made quick connects are awesome.
@@RoadRunneR69 it's definitely a solid unit with quality engineering
I have had the older version of the retractable Gardena for over 6 years and it still works great. From Canada as well and I bring into the garage for the winters
I have the Hoselink and I’m really happy with it. I bought a Stanley from Sam’s Club and the hose end adapter came off within a year. Very frustrating. I just gave my parents a Hoselink for their back yard because I’m so happy with the product.
Been very happy with my hoselink after 2 years of ownership.
Hoselink for the win 😎
Got a 5/8” hose GLAHODEN retractable hose reel a few weeks ago after watching your video, thanks. So far am very happy with it. I keep a small towel over the handle to wipe the hose as it returns. Have the 100 foot model, have extended it out 2 times, just need to remember to shut the water off when I retract the hose. Like the nozzle, can switch to different patterns. Thanks
Thanks, got the glahoden. Will let you know the end of summer
@flash1857 please do!
Hoselink had been incredible for me so far!
We have the Gardena and it’s amazing quality, had one at another house too for a few years and it’s still going strong.
Love my hoselinks! Also a side note on price, we got our 82 footers for $225. They run deals all the time. Plus they will throw in the sprayer with the quick connects. Makes it easy to switch over from my normal sprayer to the wand.
I have 4 hoselinks on our farm. They are awesome. I've had them 3 years now, no problems. I do wish they had a bigger diameter, takes me forever to fill buckets some nights... actually about 20 minutes to fill up 14 5gal water buckets but it feels like an eternity at the end of the day 😆 I love that they aren't getting trampled by the horses like our other hoses were plus my stables look much more organized with them 😊
Hose link has been great! I bought it 4 years ago. Still works great! Plus, you can mount it on a pole for an almost 360 swivel. Look for promotions to get a deal.
I’ve had 2 Hoselinks for several years and still work perfectly!
Had a hoselink for a few years, still going strong.
Hoselink owner for the last year and I’ve been happy with my purchase!
I have 2 hoselinks and love them!
please do more of these types of videos, awesome work
Bought a Gardena for my wife she loves to garden and has a bad back to wrestle with hoses, best gift ever. Local garden center had two in daily operation, impressed with quality. Made in Germany I believe. Don’t let price get in the way of picking a good tool. 👍
HELL YES! Finally, thanks my dude!
I have a giraffe, at least 4 years old, love it. Also have a hoselink, which also has been a great investment!
Warranty, customer service, parts availability , and longevity are important as well. Also, Hoselink’s portability is another plus. Easily moved from one location to another with the purchase of separate bracket(s). Unfortunately, only available in 1/2” (9/16) diameter, and longest available is 88ft.
What a great review video! This is fantastic. Great job all involved.
I own 2 Gardena retractable 1/2" (13mm) reels. I've had them now for 4 years and they have been flawless. I also live in Canada and I do not bring them in for the winters.... I just drain them completely before rolling them up for the winter and make sure they are disconnected. My one and only problem with them both is the flow rate. They need to provide a 5/8" option so my pressure washer gets the water volume it needs.
So helpful, thanks! I have a Hoselink and it's great. Needed a second hose for the other side of house and have ordered the Glahoden based on this review. Fingers crossed my hose hassles will be history from now on!
How’s the Glahoden working out so far?
@@MissAngela007 I love it! It’s a smaller diameter than my Hoselink and easier to maneuver.
I have two hoselinks, complete gamechanger. Amazing quality.
Great information, thank you guys
Nice review. Thanks! I was on the fence with Hoselink, but will give Gladhoden a chance based on your recommendation.
I have the 80 foot hoselink.
I love it. It’s very easy to move to the front of our home to wash cars or water. It weighs about 35lbs. ❤
Have 2 Gardenas - work great.
As usual, I bought the most expensive one this March 😆 BUT I did get it on a 10% off sale so that’s a bonus - Hoselink - AND it’s already been worth every penny not to have to struggle winding a long hose around my house. I watch the Garden Answer YT channel & that’s all they have used for years so I felt the product had been thoroughly tested by them on their multi-acre gardens. You get what you pay for! Kudos to Hoselink! Thanks for your review of all of the different hoses - it validated my purchase.
We have (3) Hoselinks, with the OLDEST being by far the best of the lot. The grey ones that we got last year just don't retract smoothly and get "stuck" while rewinding -- which we've NEVER had happen with our first/beige model that we bought 3-4 years ago...
I have a retracta, and it's worth it's weight in gold. Works every time. BTW they failed to mention they have a 10 year warranty. Yes they are noisy but they have strong recoil and the hose quality is great. You get what you pay for and believe me there is a reason the retracta is expensive. My 9 year old knows how to level wind so that isn't an issue.
My 9 year old does NOT know how to level wind… because he has never had to… because every other one of these hose reels does it for you. Even the cheap ones. Usually, you DO get what you pay for. But if that’s the case, go with hose link folks.
I also have the Retracta and love it. Never had any problems, but like you said, their warranty is WAY better than all the others. Hoselink was my second choice and the only reason why I didn’t purchase it was because of the better warranty that Retracta offers
I have the hoselink for the 3rd year now and so far everything is working good. I like their version of coupling/connector system.
Keep this content coming. Well done
Great vid. Got you a new subscriber. You answered ALL the questions.
One thing I didn’t see in your review. I just got my first Hoselink. Absolutely LOVE it! One thing I didn’t expect and LOVE is the included spray nozzle. It’s the nicest I’ve ever used. I would like to know how it compared with the rest. Thanks!
This is the best review! Thank you so much for your time bro this was thorough. I couldn’t figure out what to get! lol
As someone on the spectrum, I cannot find the words to tell you how much I love this.
Love this, please make it a series… the Project Farm of Lawncare
This is a great video and one I didn't know I needed!
Gardena is the way to go here in NZ i love it got it start of the year and its a game changer dog cant eat it because its reeled away 😂 wanted to get something abit more expensive so i dont have to replace it every year like the cheap ones we get at work
Great job nice thorough video. We have the giraffe and have very little problems with it.
I LOVE my hoselink! It is great in all categories!
Regarding hose size - remember that as volume increases, pressure decreases. So yes, while you get a higher flow rate, the sprinkler you hook it up to may not perform very well
Thank you so much for this informative video!
I just ordered a Giraffe (hose not the animal) but noticed after the fact that all the top reviews on Amazon are 2 and 3 stars (or 1) either due to fading or leaking in a very short time. I seen the Glahoden and it caught my eye and now that you picked it as a top performer I'll be getting that instead. Great review, I was entertained by which garden hose to buy, that says it all.
Awesome thanks ..... you made my choice for me
Great video fellas, much appreciated!
Thanks for the test as .looking to buy another unit but want 5/8. Have 2 units now and both are Gardena and after one year still working great no issues . I am in Canada and the Gardena are pricey but i think worth it .thanks again.
Great to hear!
GARDENA is the clear winner here! European hose, 5 year warranty and those amazing German quick connects. Hard to beat!! It deserves its own video tbh!
And they are great people to work with too. I've got some other products they sent me that I messed around with last year that worked just as well as the hose reel.

I have the 1/2” 130’ giraffe. Fantastic! Hoselink only comes up to 82’. I also got the metal bracket for the giraffe. According to your review that puts it at 8 points. #1
I have 2 hose links, one in each length they offer. I’m very happy with the product. The ease of use, set up and it’s durability are worth the cost.
Solid video and very entertaining. I ordered two of the hose links, let’s see how they do. You should leave these up for the summer and do a follow up on how much they fade.
Hoselinks have covers you can put on to help with that. Different colors and designs, I believe.
In my humble opinion, it is that for 50 foot of hose I think its easier, less effort all around, cheaper to just pull the hose over a looped static holder. Of course I need 100 ft of hose but being that the first 50 feet of reeling is the hardest I would use one of these and then hand wind the second 50 feet only because I have to go around obstacles to get the hose back to the spigot or station and the self wind would take the place of a second person.
i enjoyed this guys. very informative
I have two 82’ Hoselinks and really like them, makes watering so much easier.
I’ve had a Giraffe for about 2 years and it’s held up great. I also have a hose link and it’s great, but not worth the money imo when there are less expensive options available
Thank you this was very helpful
Thank you! Very informative!
good stuff! Thank you for doing the research
Thanks for this
I’ve got the Gardena, excellent product
Thanks for such a quick and comprehensive review video…made my decision much easier! Easy subscribe and like!
I bought the Glahoden early this year form Amazon 100ft x 5/8 inch for $100 (they had some discount) the price has gone up since. Its good and solid unit and I am happy with it, definitely go for the 5/8". I don't know why you give an extra point for metal, the metal could rust also the metal bracket does not appear solid, keep in mind these units are heavy 30-40 lbs. The plastic bracket in the Glahoden is solid and will not rust. I am impressed with the Glahoden so far. The only problem is that they did not have any contact information. So if I have any issues I will have to call Amazon to get their contact information.
