Most underrated drummer in the history of rock. Amazing drummer. Amazing, humble man. Jesus loves you Tommy and so do I. See you in heaven brother, where I fully expect and look forward to free drum lessons. Peace!
Tommy is a 'power' drummer who in his own words "plays to the nose bleed section"...hence the grand exaggerated movements (this is entertainment right?). His cv speaks for itself; in his field he is one of the best. I've played drums in this genre for over 25 years (my arms are killing me!)😂 & having witnessed this guy close up I can assure you that nobody hits/works harder than Tommy Aldridge (and I've literally sat right behind the great Thomas Lang at a masterclass). This guy doesn't need triggers to be heard over the band, he's a lovely honest guy & still slamming it nearly 30 years later; I'm sad that I feel compelled to defend him amongst fellow drummers. Haters will hate I guess.😔✌🏻️
He breaks a stick at around 4:05...tosses the broken stick out into the audience, keeps on playing, never misses a beat...the man is a drumming MONSTER!!!
One of the best! Always enjoy Tommy's playing. Met him year's ago in Dallas, TX at a drum clinic. One of the coolest, down to earth drummers you'll every meet. And just a beautiful musician. Play on for many more years Tommy. You and Randy Rhoads were a force of nature in Ozzy's '81 Blizzard Tour. Miss Randy tremendously.
Wow, I cannot believe some of the negative comments on here… Tommy Aldridge is a bad ass hard rock drummer! I have seen him live several times and he is flawless! The length of his career, the top artists he has played with on top of the body of his percussion work will eventually put him in the RnR HOF. There is no doubt
Tommy Aldridge is bad no ass one of the best drummers I have ever seen. Neil Peart said he always used to watch TA when the bands he was in would warm up for Rush back in the day. He still kicks ass. Saw him with Whitesnake not too long ago and he was phenominal. Right On Glenn Augustyn
One of the greatest Rock and Roll drummers of all time!! Mr Aldridge..underfreakin rated!! Always with his massive drum kit, fucking technical genius!! Yes, I did
WOW! Tons of comments from the IGNORANT! Tommy is a drumming legend. He was one of the first to use heavy double bass drumming in Rock. For the ignorant, go listen to Pat Travers live album and then come back and bash Tommy. His drumming on that album is spectacular!
His playing on that Travers album is killer I think it's his best. They opened for Rush during that tour and I guarantee Neil was taking notes. That would have been a drummers dream concert Tommy and Neil in the same night.
Totally agree, Tommy is a drumming legend, no one has since matched his double bass drum skill on the Live 'Go For What You Know' Pat Traver's Album. ruclips.net/video/S6jwHOl77s8/видео.html Also it seems Tommy is a very modest nice guy and he doesn't deserve to be put down by ignorant people.
Tommy Aldridge has been playing with some of the best bands to ever play rock and roll for 50 years..How many of you people can say that?.Period..We are all amatuers. He played with Black Oak Arkansas,Pat Travers,Gary Moore.Ozzy.Motorhead,White Snake,Thin Lizzy,Ted Nugent,Vinnie Moore,Hearing aid,Pata..Lets hear who you guys played with.He is one of the worlds best drummers. If you were any real musician which I am sure many of you aren't then you appreciate the music world and the musicians who laid the ground work for what we are today.
Right on Dude! Aldridge is a legend, end of story. Just think, he's one of maybe a dozen people who knew and played with Randy Rhoads. Aldridge has appeared in so many albums and worked with so many other artists. He does a lot of studio work. And he's old as dirt!
I've known Tommy since Black Oak , and he is a technician who has been working his entire life to be better at his craft. Much respect and love for you, brother . Haters will hate , even if they get the best piece of cake . Peace out "STICKS"
Tommy, You are The Fn Man! And Im Glad To Say I Have Shaken Hands With Such An Amazing and Incredibly Blessed and Talented Person Such As Yourself. You Are an Inspiration To Those Who Would Like To Per-sue a Carrier in The Art of Percussions. You Have Been Blessed! Thank You 🙏🏽
always nice to have a tribute for the greats.. doesn't mean they must sound like them, he brings his own mastery of drumming to the table and he is great
I always love hearing Tommy Aldridge play. He goes way back to the early days of "Hard Rock" with a style that sounds just as good today. He's a drummer's drummer in his own right.
To all you haters ! Until you've seen Tommy play drums live then you haven't got a freaking clue about how talented and humble this man is? And most of us my self included. Could learn a lot from people like him. If just sit back, shut up, look and listen, and not just with your ear's but your heart as well!!!
Glen Williams sr. tommys own father gave him a hard time about drumming, tommy had to practice quietly in a shed when he first started so the old man would not know
Well lots of interesting comments, i have played over 40 years and have worked with some great musicians, i knew tommy way back in the day with pat travers band, and seen him live several times even with ted nugent. He is an amazing drummer and always has been good to see he is still at it and has the chops. Lessons....? The best lessons is watching those you most admire and learning from them. And a not to all who are comparing some of the greats......john bonham was the first drummer to play a triplet which is a staple of all drummers today. It is not what you can and can not play it is simply how you play it and to each style that a drummer has.
Tommy is a hard rock drummer and it does have a narrow focus but he has done this for a long time and is amazing at this type of music,Tommy developed the over the head snare drum downbeat because he played huge festivals and it added to the effect of playing in front of 60,000 + people, they could see him playing better, otherwise it would be boring and this was before large video screens we have now.
Katya Lacrua Rainbow Rising was such a great album there's a pro shot DVD on Amazon Live in Munich 1977 which is incredible Cozy is dynamic through out the show..a must have for me anyway
Say what you will about Tommy, but the reality is that the dude means what he plays. At the base of it all, that's what makes a musician great. It's the reason why John Bonham was such a great drummer, regardless of the fact that he couldn't do a fraction of what Thomas Lang does.
Add Virgil Donati to that list!! You dont have to hate or put down someone just to prove that the other is better! This is a tribute, like John Norum's to Gary Moore. Is he better? Does it matter? Celebrate the music and the respect amongst musicians who put their egos aside. Is john bonham lousier than Carmine Appice? Since Carmine is his hero. Tommy is one of my favourtie drummers, but that doesn't stop me to enjoy others like Vincent Colaiuta, who I think smokes all others.
oh i liked nicko with travers but tommy kicks ass , and he was on blizzard and diary man c mon man over the mountain. fuckin great chops you may like a band called NOMEANSNO song called catching up
Eet Chit. sorry bro,you are mistaken, tommy aldridge did NOT play on blizzard or diary,it was lee kerslake who drummed on both of those fantastic albums.google if u dont believe it.tommy and rudy sarzo replaced bob daisley and lee kerslake after both albums were recorded and complete.
I love watching drummers who are very animated and energetic behind the kit, like Tommy Aldridge. I love watching great drummers who are relaxed and at ease behind the kit, too, like Nick Mason. I guess I just love watching drummers, period! LoL
I guess all the people that are complaining about tommys performance did not read in the description that it is a "tribute" not a let me play it note for note if your the critics that your coments imply you should realize unless you was in the same room same drums same heads tuning mics and on and on it will never sound anything close all that said it was tommys version of a great drummers song
I love this man dearly, big influence for me. He is a very hard hitter. I've been to a drum clinic of his, I had to put in ear plugs. I never understood why Yamaha bass drums were so dead. Randy Jackson can sing the shit out of Zepp style music, crazy! Tommy is one of the nicest people I've ever met. True gentleman. If you get the chance to meet this legend at a clinic, drive 3 hours for one like I did. You'll thank yourself.
lukemanify I was there to see him perform those solos with BOA live a number of times in the '70's. Jaw-dropping, absolutely jaw-dropping, every single time.
+lukemanify Saw him back in the day with BOA....still one of my all time favorite drummers. Story goes...when Amet Ertegun signed BOA ( only one of five groups in his career) he replaced their first drummer (who Amet felt was the weak link) with 18 year old Tommy Aldridge. What a ride for a kid straight out of high school!
I don't even think they had the mike on his kick drum turned on and he still sounds awesome, could it be somebody was jealous of the magnificent Tommy Aldridge!!!!!
First saw Tommy with Pat Travers Band in the early 80's.. frickin killer... one of the great rock drummers of all time. He had massive showmanship and flair but he had killer groove, and great time as well as the stadium chops.

Tommy is the last vestige of a pure rock drummer left. Most of these cats do not last...TA still plays today the way he did in 1978! That is amazing.
This was a great tribute... I was there ... Wish I can find the whole show... At the end all the drummers played communication breakdown together... it was awesome ... Jason was great as well ..

I met Tommy Aldridge at a drum clinic in San Jose. During a question and answer session, someone asked, "What advice would you give young drummers just starting out?" His answer, "Take lessons. Definitely take lessons. I think I could have done a lot more if I had taken lessons." Done more. Sheesh. Overachiever.
Good answer. The fact is you should be able to play to some degree on any instrument without lessons if you've chosen right. Lessons should be an advance rather than a tutorial. I always ask my drum puplils who/what they like. Some can't even answer that. My advice is never turn down a gig!
That would be my answer too. I am 53 and self taught and have been playing over 30 years. RUclips has shown me how far behind I am. Seriously, I am just shocked at how much there is to learn about playing the drums.Wish I could have studied way back when. But I am working on all these free drum lesson here on youtube. And let me tell you I feel reborn on the drums and have renewed enthusiasm for drumming all because I am learning new things after all these years.
First saw Tommy with Black Oak Arkansas...back in about 73.The only song that was known to me was Jim Dandy......even Ruby Starr was with them. Then in later years.....my friends band warmed up BOA in Cedar Lake Indiana about 1983.Jim Mungren was the only original member of the band.He was cool and signed autographs.....and wanted to party with us......So years after that I dated Jims niece Paula. She was living in between Crown Point and Cedar Lake Indiana. She was a sweet woman.I also saw Tommy do a drum workshop at a Chicago Drum store in about 1981 or 2.He was plugging the new Yamaha drum line and did a solo and showed his double base techniques....which blew everyone away.He signed a few autographs and shook hands.Real nice guy at that seminar. One guy asked him....who is your favorite drummer.....He said....me....lol.And was asked....what do you think of Neil Peart.....and many others. One guy said....how bout Peter Criss.....the room erupted with laughs......He said....Hey....Peter isn't the best....but he works great with his band Kiss....and that's what matters.I didn't get an auto graph....was so crowded there....but had a great time.
Aldridge:

Have you been under a rock for the last 50 years?!! Underrated my ass!!!
He's not underrated in my book.
He's THE BEST to me.

I've never heard anybody say that about Tommy,he's been on the for front of in your face double bass for fuckin ever..lol
One of the greatest rock drummers of all time!
Tommy "fuckin" Aldridge, one of the best ever
He's incredible

Al Strange Like I say most drummers are insecure dick heads. The ones that talk shit are weak anyway. Dont defend, let the resume speak for itself.
The problem is not that he's a bad drummer, far from it, but he always seems to hit the heads full on. A little dynamics wouldn't hurt.
Well said brother.
@@hugolafhugolaf He is getting plenty of work doing what he does. Bands want to hear the snare and being a showman doesn't hurt.
How can anyone talk this guy down? Master Rock drummer and showman!!
He breaks a stick at around 4:05...tosses the broken stick out into the audience, keeps on playing, never misses a beat...the man is a drumming MONSTER!!!
Both times I saw him he tosses his sticks half way through his solo and finishes bare handed
what a remarkable, talented, humble & classy guy in a league all his own, keep on keeping on Tommy! In my humble opinion you are the best! Thank you
Tommy has played with some of the greatest rock bands and hits the drum heads harder than anyone. I love his style and melodic solos.
Tommy, you are amazing! I have folloed you since you were with BlakOak. One of the best drummers in the world!!
+Melody Smith I doubt he reads this
Totally agree with you on that.
His drum solo with Black Oak Arkansas is classic. Fantastic talent,

My 4th influence as a teenage drummer. Such a powerful showman.
Tommy top 5 of all time drummers the founding father of the double bass drum at his age still killing it.
Tommy Aldridge is one of the best percussionists to ever walk the face of the earth and can hold his own against anybody.

Yeah, Bonham was just a soft rock guy who never really played in front of a very big crowd.
listen to Black Oak Arkansas Live 1973 for some great Tommy Aldridge
Norman Buffett
yep that's what made me aware of his talent
How I adore those red drum kit Yamaha!!! Cozy Powell played on the same :)

Wow. Simply an amazing perofrmance by a greatly talented drummer. Outstanding!

Because he is not a finesse drummer. He's a 'stadium' drummer.
Jeff Porcaro Groove you right about that bounce on the single note
The double was done with delay
He played on “X-Rated” by BOA. As far as I’m concerned, their best record!

Bonzo: your incredible tallent and soul allways with us. Led Zeppelin BEST BAND EVER. From Argentina.
wow tommy, just...wow
Were there flies around him? What is he swatting? Or is he signaling the mother ship to pick him up?
I love this shit tommy go hard as fuck bruh I keep returning to this video
Congratulations to anyone who made it past 2 minutes. When I saw his hair I thought it was a joke. Then I realized it is.
yeah man…it's hard to believe, right?
You are way better than him. Hands down.
But I'm sure your hair is better though...
