I'm a rock drummer, since 1990. Not too old, not too young. I'm in love with music and with my instrument...more with the music. In this video Mr. Tommy Aldridge is remembering us the meaning of the drums in rock music. Nowadays a lot of great, technical, incredible drummers have completely forgot this attitude: "TO HAVE FUN" is the key. This man, with many others, has invented the rock drumming, the rock attitude. I really have no words...incredible...incredible artist. Thank you Mr. Aldridge for the inspiration. Incredible...
I was lucky enough to play drums for a living. I met Tommy twice and he is such a great person and influenced me greatly. I don't know he does it at his age. Incredible. I retired at 53 after 2 shoulder surgeries, 4 back surgeries and tendinitis. I have 3 Pearl Masters kits in my barn stacked in cases and haven't looked at them in 2 years because they equal pain. 😂 I just don't know how he does it.
Even in his mid-70s (belated happy birthday last week if you're reading this!), Tommy still hits the drums like they owe him money, but with such a style and touch that you immediately know it's him. Absolute legend.
Amazing energy and coordination from Tommy. Whitesnake is one of favorite bands of the 80s and it’s unbelievable to him still rocking it like it was yesterday. Thank you sir for that incredible performance!
Watching him playing drums is the main reason I'm craving for immortality. Attitude, power, technique, showmanship, curly hair: he's got the full package. Long live Tommy.
Same.. can't help it. I mean not only is he an absolute beast back there but as a guitar player, I just watch him and I get so mesmerized by his playing then I always remind myself this guy played with Randy Rhoads, Gary Moore, Vivian Cambell, Adrian Vandenberg, Steve Vai, Randy Castillo, John Sykes, Reb Beach, Doug Aldrich and many other greats. What a legendary career he's had. One of the all time bests and played with some of the all time bests.
Not only a timeless song, but a drummer who always brings it to the kit. I am in awe of this man. All the talk of who the best drummers are and yada-yada, but Tommy just bashes the hell out of his cymbals, plays his tunes with killer precision, and hasn't lost a beat. Tommy Aldridge is just a bad-ass. Thanks Drumeo.
I was a drummer in the 80's and played in the NY club scene like a lot of guys. Gotta tell ya, if ya watched Tommy play back then he made you want to play all day and elevate your chops. Crazy thing is... he still makes me want to play! Age means nothing!!! What a Legend!!!!
Seen whitesnake 7 times to date and I swear this man never ceases keep my excitement in for the age that Tommy is, he is an absolute beast of a drummer he could put anyone to shame without a doubt
I absolutely love with how much power this man plays at his age, so much emotion in his playing but yet the pocket is tight as it gets. A masterclass of a drummer.
This is S-tier rock god playing Power, precision, timing, and presentation It's all here and a drummer who can play his kit blindfolded, knowing where everything is at speaks volumes
Drumeo, you’re beautiful. This song is an all time favourite for me. Unlike soooo many good songs that I overplayed in my youth, this one has stuck with me for nearly 40 years and is still on my playlist. Tommy (and David) is a legend and it’s amazing he can still play these songs at his age. He even threw in a snippet of his solo that accompanies this song when they’re live. This made my day.
I got to meet Tommy back in mid 1980's at Tommy Drum Shop in Austin and the autographed poster still hangs on my wall. This guy plays drums like they owe him money!.. Still killing it..
Tommy is just the coolest MF around. His tiny splash 'tings, behind his head barely touching the cymbal....they are perfection. Everything he does has meaning for the power or emotion of the song. He never tries to out do the vocals or lead guitar he makes the ensemble better. He makes all of us better. Legend X 100!! The hand drum solo at the end was epic and fierce and everything a drummer should be. WOW! I just needed to edot this as I couldnt help bit watxhthos again....for the billionth time!! The chokes are just so perfect. The speed with which he cuts off fthe ringjng cymbals all about the kit is unreal. Jist unreal!!
hm, I found the hand-solo rather weird, but who am I to judge. If he feels like palying on the Set with his hands, it´s hi best right to do so , I´d rather use sticks.
I had the pleasure of seeing Tommy live in 87' with Whitesnake. He's the real deal. Total wild man on the drums. Such a great influence for so many drummers like myself.
Hell yeah! I just recently found out that Tommy Aldridge took over on drums for Whitesnake right after this album was recorded! I love Aynsley Dunbar's work on this album after discovering he was Journey's original drummer, and Tommy Aldridge does some superb work on this rendition!
1. Don't ever piss tommy off! He would kill you!😂 2. He makes some of today's young drummers look like their sitting still! 3. 74yrs old an has more passion and energy than most teenagers! 4. Still the hardest working drummer in the business! 5. There will never be another like him! 6. God bless you tommy an drumeo for getting him on here! Took you long enough!😊 ❤😊❤ thank you drumeo!
Found the clip of Tommy playing this at an Expo backed by a live band. Off the back of that i bought the '1987' album (yes, I know that was Ainsley), and '87 became one of my big lockdown albums. THEN saw one of the few Whitesnake gigs on the tour after that. Tommy played with the same intensity through the entire set. The man is a next-level athlete.
I'd love a breakdown of the cymbals used. I see Signature, Twenty, 602 ME, 2002, PST, Dark Energy ... there's so much variety of sound. His rack tom sizes have gotten a little smaller (13" and 14" instead of the 14" and 15" he used in the 80's), but they still carry the energy. The point of any musical instrument is to move air. While bigger drums aren't the right fit for EVERY musical situation, they're SO GOOD for those times when you need your drums to speak with authority - to move a LOT Of air. Yes, miking is going to shape how you carry out of the front of house speakers, but you still inhabit an acoustic space on stage. In this genre, bigger drums help you OWN that space. Thank you Tommy for being such a great example/leader for heavy rock/metal!
THANK YOU!!! this music, for me, is a blues-heavy metal perfection, those details are amazing...when he teach us that song will be even better...I saw him live, doing that solo, what a great experience
Saw Tommy playing with White Snake at the M3 festival a couple of years ago. Dozens of bands and dozens of drummers. But seeing Tommy was the highlight of the festival for me.
Oh my God! I didn’t even think about him doing his solo this whole time! PLEASE Drumeo, tell us you had him record his whole solo with your audio/video setup! We want to see it! And the fills in this one are just ridiculous. Gonna learn them all!
HOLY...The amount of power speed and accuracy this man just displayed while staying perfectly in the pocket the ENTIRE Time, hitting every single accent, is truly incredible 🫡
Nothing gets heavier than Tommy Aldridge when he plays “Crying in the Rain”. The way he stomps the drums on this particular song always leaves an orgasmic feeling and watching it alone feels like an intense cardio
Man, Tommy is just the best damn thrasher out there. Solid technique, his signature crash cymbals control and pedal work is legendary. I’d say Tommy A and Tommy C (Ozzy), are my two favorite drummers alive. ⚡️🤘🏼
A true gentleman, and legendary talent always propelling and tastefully executing on behalf of every band or project he's ever been a part of. I know he's been known as drummer who many times comes in after the tracks were already laid down, But damn does he not deserve some writing credits for every song he helped work up, record, or perform. I'm a 51yr old bassist and guitarist, and a few years ago decided to stop playing, writing and recording. He inspires and motivates the hell outta me,. If he doesn't do that for you, Then you probably think modern pop is cool.
It's admirable to listen to how drummers of such different styles find the basic elements of a song, even if you've never heard the song. Thanks to the drummers and other organizers for these videos. P.S. I'm a guitarist...
I first saw him in black oak Arkansas in like 73 -74 mabey and the energy and the way he spun his sticks with the lights on him during his amazing solo reminded me of the excitement of a fair , spinning his sticks was like a ferris wheel , the enemy of him thundering the kit was like a Rollercoaster ride !
this song really shows off how good he is.. he doesnt make it look easy, because it isnt... and especially not if you play with this much energy. magnificient dude!
One of my very favorite performances of Tommy's is this live version of Cryin' in the Rain and his solo in that! And I have always thought of Animal from the Muppets when I see Tommy's hair flying around from in front of the drum set! Love it! I
73 years old 🤟🤟🤟🤟🤟🤟
Dude's ALWAYS looked 73 years old.
Hasn't aged a day over 73 for the last 60 years.
@@pnkru_9909 🤣🤣🤣So true tho.
Retirement homes need to up their game. Rock Forever! 😉
73 years YOUNG! 🤘🤘🤘
Tommy is a perfect example of power, precision and just the right amount of flair.
*hair
@dima.jiharev I was going to react that exact same joke, but you were first😂
He's one of my 2 favorite power players. Followed closely by Vinnie Appice.
every musician should have the same work ethic and attitude as that gentleman..... a true legend
Agreed. A gentleman.
have you seen Shannon Larkin....shout to him as well
Rock solid Tommy!
lol
This man can judge his "work ethic" through video. Amazing skills.
I saw Tommy with Whitesnake in 1988 and 36 years later he is still playing with the same energy. He is truly incredible.
Remember when it was with Pat Travers?
Tommy is an ageless wonder! Such a great musician!!😊😊
I saw him in 1974 with Black Oak Arkansas. Freaking amazing concert, Montrose opened.
Me too. 2nd row centre of Wembley arena.
In his 70s, still hitting like it’s 1987. Love it. Man has to be in crazy shape. 💪🏼
Still hitting like 1973 with Black Oak Arkansas

I like your style of writing I wish I could come up with a words stream like this
My God! Almost every metal song you lov3 from the 80s tommy Aldridge played on ...much respect!!!!!! Thank you sir
Amazing energy and coordination from Tommy. Whitesnake is one of favorite bands of the 80s and it’s unbelievable to him still rocking it like it was yesterday. Thank you sir for that incredible performance!
One of the best examples of "Age is just a number."
Tell my body that. Lol.

This is mesmerizing to watch. You can feel his energy and passion. He’s definitely re-living some memories of those past performances.

Looks like the Carl Palmer signature ride.

He toured through the 1970's, 1980's, 1990's, 2000's and into the 2020's. Imagine the stories he can tell. Has he written a book? If not, he should.
