I absolutely love this film. Remarkable performances, stunning cinematography along with a fitting music score. I don't understand how anyone could not appreciate it
PTA and Aimee Mann. It doesn't get better. This film is astonishing, there is a 20 minute sequence in this when the quiz is going on and Frank is being interviewed that utterly stunned me. Brilliant film. Utterly brilliant.
Yes. The emotional background and spiritual capacity to take it in as it's meant to be as an work of art. People either give an A+ or a C-. There's no middle ground. And you just want to hug the C- crowd for their inability to get it.
The name of this video is "Magnolia Opening". At 5:50 a magnolia flower opens. A pure matter of chance? No.... These strange things happen all the time....
Fun fact: notice the repeatedly accurring of the number 82 in this sequence! It has something to do with a bibletext Exodus 8:2 which i believe is the one with.... frogs!
6070 is flat wrong.The problem is that this film is beyond some people. They don't have the tools to get it, so they they don't think there is anything to get. If there wasn't anything to get, the movie wouldn't have lasted this long, and certainly wouldn't have an 88% audience tomatometer rating. (I was actually student teaching in and English class when the movie came out. The students hated it--because they didn't get it. I had seen it before the teacher, recommended it, and she LOVED IT.)
agreed, it was quite the opening, our teacher last year showed it to us, cause the book we read had kind of the same concept, apparently i didnt read it, so, but i havent the whole movie yet, want to tho. and i love resevoir dogs and tarantino movies
@3:05-3:11 - I can’t help but notice that handwriting isn’t made by the same person. You can tell it’s at least two different people that wrote that for this movie.
It may not be ENTIRELY fair to say it is an IQ test. But as I used to tell my own students, it is fine for you to say something is "stupid" (or you don't like it) AFTER you understand it. But you can't call it stupid BEFORE you understand it, as you have no way to make any assessment of it. The movie was an epic poem...and too many people were trying to read it as a recipe for cookies because, you know, they like cookies. That's not a criticism of the movie, but the audience.
@Magn0liafan Well, I'm putting you on the record. If this is a false statement, then you'll spend a week in a youtube-free zone. Remember, you are under oath, and the Deerhunter is my favorite movie...
@reubenm641 You're right though mistakes were made. But then again...(see what I did there?) TWBB is still better for more reasons THAN I care to explain. Happy now? Besides I am not writing to have my grammar scrutinized. I am writing to express an opinion. If you don't like my opinion perhaps you should argue your case for Magnolia and not against my grammar. Perhaps we can start a proper debate on the topic. If you are that way inclined.
thank thank thank you for adding the beginning of the opening song. no one else realized that that was part of the experience
i loved it as a young kid and still love it as a young man
i came off the other video cause it didn’t have the song

This is my favorite movie of all time. And I'm not afraid to go on the record with that.
Magnolia has the most emotional climaxes I've ever seen in a film. It's also brilliant.

Sometimes, I forget how much I love this film. I really must watch it again.
Same here. It's beyond brilliant.
A Masterpiece!!
Same here. It's beyond belief.

Fun fact - Delmer Darian (the scuba diver) is played by Patton Oswalt, who years later was the voice of Remy in Ratatouille!
"...and the book says, 'we may be through with the past, but the past ain't through with us'..."
I love how Patton Oswalt is in this movie for all of about 5 seconds
@ 2:37 listen for the strains of "It's not safe" off of Aimee Mann's "I'm with stupid" LP.
PTA is an amazing story-teller and director!

@BunnyMan456 i also love the part when the drumroll occurs and the flower starts to bloom

@IDesignsAUS why am i killing you?
how was that a fun fact
@reubenm641 regardless, TWBB is better.
It's not as good as 'There Will Be Blood'
@Magn0liafan your lame.
This film makes no sense and relies too heavily on audience interpretation, and not enough on its own merit as a story.
