    this scene is such a masterpiece of true acting. Words cannot describe how amazing and touching Julianne was in this movie. Every feeling, every look in her eyes...it's just breathtaking. Oscars lost my respect when they didn't even nominate Julianne for this role, one of the greatest female characters ever.

      Yeah. If she had a 6th nomination, Magnolia should absolutely be it. The pharmacy scene alone. I was soooo wrecked when she got snubbed that year.

    I freaking love this scene and the "shame on you!" pharmacy one. They are so well executed. I keep coming back to watch them. It's incredible that she was in like six scenes during the movie and still I've read articles that said that when someone says "Magnolia" the person that comes to your mind is Julianne Moore.
    I mean, the movie is full of great actors, but Julianne's scenes are just beyond. I don't understand how she didn't get an Oscar nomination for this role.

      Agree, Moore should have been awarded for her performance in Magnolia, but all actors are amazing in this movie: Tom Cruise never was this good, Philip Seymour Hoffman is always amazing but this is one of my favorite performance from him, and all others are also remarquable : William H. Macy, John C. Reilly, Philip Baker Hall, Melinda Dillon, Melora Walters, Luiz Guzman.
      No doubt, PTA is master at directing actors.

      PalmurcioWorld I cried so much ( three times, in the theater, when I saw it each time); the silent - hurt- wrenching tears that run down your face and just hope other people can't hear all the snot that's in your nose when all you want to do is get it out--- oh my gosh- A plus acting. It's hard to get lost in emotion with bad acting, and this was brilliant - screen and acting and directing!!

    • @brendanfoehr5086
      @brendanfoehr5086 3 года назад +7

      Why? She’s a golddigger having a crisis of conscience, it’s interesting and heartbreaking. She wanted security and independence and now is paying the awful price of absolutely hating herself for the rest of her life because of it. She’s not a terrible person, or didn’t mean to be, but there are just some things you can’t undo. When she’s yelling “shame on you” in the pharmacy she’s talking about herself. I think Linda is a great character.

      It does happen. A coworker was sentenced to jail for abusing his daughter. The wife got everything and he went to jail. It took about three years but she came forward on her own and confessed she lied about everything because she was angry at him but she wanted to take it all back, wanted everything back the way it was. Of course she never could get her old life back. My former coworker got out of jail but he was never the same. Sad stuff all around.

    I think Julianne Moore gave a terrible acting performance in Magnolia, the worst in the film yet her acute overacting is so fun to watch here, I don't mind what she did in this at all. In fact, if she played it subtle it would have been solid at least but also quite forgettable.
