  • Magnolia song.
    Awesome scene !!!!!!!
    It's not
    What you thought
    When you first began it
    You got
    What you want
Now you can hardly stand it though,
    By now you know
    It's not going to stop
    It's not going to stop
    It's not going to stop
    'Til you wise up
    You're sure
    There's a cure
And you have finally found it
    You think
    One drink
Will shrink you 'til you're underground
    And living down
But it's not going to stop
    It's not going to stop
    It's not going to stop
    'Til you wise up
Prepare a list of what you need
Before you sign away the deed
'Cause it's not going to stop
    It's not going to stop
    It's not going to stop
    'Til you wise up
No, it's not going to stop
    'Til you wise up
No, it's not going to stop
    So just...give up

Paul Thomas Anderson in undoubtedly one of the best film directors alive. He may only have done five movies, but each one of those movies is unique and special. He is a true talent, and I hope to see a lot more of his films in the future. Mr Anderson, I salute you!

Over the last few years I've been going through the Empire Magazine top 500 films and watching the ones I haven't seen. I saw Magnolia last night and was absolutely blown away by it. How have I missed this beautiful, beautiful film for so long?

One of my 3 favorite movies of all time. It just moves along and sucks you in. This scene is so creative. PT Anderson has a great appreciation for how music can totally evoke a mood in a movie better than anyone. Ghoulardi's spawn is a genius.

Its not going to stop. But I wont give up. We can't. This is my favourite movie. It reminds me of so much of whats gone on in my life. I know its the same for most. This movie touches so many. When we think things are going well for us something hits us for six. It always will. Not going to give up though.

This scene defines the whole movie. Without even realising it, the entire cast are bound by forces beyond their control, summed up brilliantly by a song they all share, which basically dicates to them that their ongoing pain is not going to leave them until they get a better perspective of what life is all about. But, because most of us haven't a clue what life is all about, so their pain endures. Some reconciliations may ensue, during which it rains frogs. AMAZING MOVIE.

Paul Thomas Anderson will always make movies that HE wants to see...which makes them so close to perfection.

"Magnolia" is a complex tapestry of of love, fear, sorrow...of pain, desperation, discovery, transformation...of forgiveness, redemption and healing.
This song is a wonderful reminder that each of us is responsible for our own happiness. Our choices create our destiny. If we don't like any component of our life, we can "wise up" and awaken to our own power and embrace the ability to change our self, to change our destiny. In that moment in time of surrendering, we become our own hero...

People that do not like this film haven't experienced life until the point of no forgiveness, whether to themselves or someone else, and that is where this film is lost on many

This song was recorded for the Jerry McGuire film, then they didn't use it in their movie. Paul Anderson heard it and knew it was amazing, and wrote this scene in, a unique one in such dramatic movies. Then it COULDN'T be nominated for "Best Song" Oscar because of being used on the Jerry McGuire soundtrack record! Damn shame...

I wasn't fully engaged in the American collective consciousness when this movie came out, but I'm in film school now and I have heard "it said" (meaning students talking about critical reviews) that this is the "Perfect film." I was taken back at first, almost offended(I don't buy into reviews), then I watched it and I have to agree, it is by far my most favorite film of all time vanquishing Eraserhead, The Shining... why bother making a list[?] lol.

I am serious, but I can totally appreciate that some people feel differently.
I thought There Will Be Blood was a visual masterpiece. Again, PTA is great with a camera.
But I thought the story arc was one-dimensional and basically uninteresting.
I mean, was there any point in the movie where you thought, "I can't wait to find out what happens next?"
I never felt that way. I felt totally disengaged from all of the characters.
