    *Motion Controller firmware has been temporarily removed.*
    Too many people experiencing incomplete firmware updates. The fix is to use a microSD card that the printer accepts. I will attempt to create a list of microSD cards that others have successfully used to update the firmware.
    A much longer than necessary video but it shows the complete steps needed to successfully update the Motion Controller firmware using the included microSD card on the first try.
    ==================================================
    Don't be too harsh in the comments. I know the video is long but after all the troubles with a recent Motion Controller firmware for update for the MP Select Mini V2 I am trying to avoid having to personally help people get their printer working again. I don't mind helping but it isn't the most efficient way and is inconvenient for the user.
    Once the formatting step doesn't have to be done I may redo the video and hopefully cut it down to less than 5 minutes. I am not one for editing video. As you can probably tell this video is unedited. It's a simple how-to and not worth the time to edit.
    ===========================================
    MP Mini Delta Motion Controller Firmware V40
    Basic Changelog
    • "Cancel Bug" fixed
    • Fixed some USB compatibility issue with Linux/MacOSX system. Cura 15.##.# and Repetier-Host working on macOS. Cura 2.# and Simplify3D on macOS may not connect.
    If you don't have any problems related to the two items above then you need not worry about updating right away. There will be another Motion Controller update that will include the fixes below and additional features.

    Used the Kingston 2GB card you recommended, and upgrade to v41 worked great. Thanks Matthew!

    Successful! I used an old SD card that came with my MP Select Mini ( I use a dedicated SD card for such firmware updates for multiple prints).
    Thank you!

      +RiseAgainstDisciple no problem. Too bad everyone's updates don't go as smoothly as yours did.

      instructions are straight forward enough, havent tested the new version yet but clearly powers up to V40.

    The card that came with the printer is FAT16. I had to use a 512Mb old SD card which was formatted to FAT16. It then worked fine. I'm on Linux. I took a 4GB card and reformatted with a single 512Mb FAT16 partition. And that worked just fine.

    I updated to version 45 and the printhead keeps crashing into the bed. Then I tried to to revert back to version 41 and now it will not home, will just crash into the bed. Tried several different firmware versions, 43, 44, 45 and back to 41. Tried at least a dozen microSD cards including the one that came with the printer. Nothing works. I can't get it to connect to Wi-Fi either. Every version will update and it will show the updated version. But when you click the home button it will just make a bunch of noise as if it can't read any of the stops. Any suggestions? Maybe when it crashed into the bed, stepper motors may have skipped a few teeth. Now it's lost and can't find its way home.

      Did you reset the settings to firmware defaults after updating the firmware?

      I have also updated the steps to include restoring the setting to firmware defaults instead of having it listed as an optional step.

    Does the new quite board come preloaded with firmware?

    • @MatthewUpp
      @MatthewUpp  5 лет назад

      Stock and "quiet" versions of the mainboards come with the same firmware already loaded. I run print test(s) on each mainboard before they are sent to customers. Stock boards get one short test print and TMC2208 versions get multiple print test totalling 10 - 20 hours.

    Mathew, I just updated to V1.33 and the heating works, endstops are working, I checked in pronterface M119, but homing when at home makes a loud buzzing trying to move but doesn't, and if off the max endsops it drives to the bed. I tried to go back to V44 and It won't show a flashing led nor will it say updating etc. I tried to run the firmware from print menu and it just shows a moving status line and ends, like a print. any suggestions to get this back to running? I can run M503 and all the other codes in proterface and even had the axis moving x and y biut not z. thanks in advance.

      I assume "V1.33" is one of the Marlin builds. If you haven't already, make sure you restore firmware to its default settings and save.
      M502
      M500
      I would not recommend trying to flash the firmware by choosing the file from the print menu.

      @@MatthewUpp I know bout that and yes it's a marlin build I was wondering if there is any way to enable updates in pronterface with g or M codes. Thanks

      @@MatthewUpp Btw I can talk to the printer in pronterface

    • @MatthewUpp
      @MatthewUpp  3 года назад

      There is with the stock firmware but being you are not currently using the stock firmware those won't work.
      After flashing Marlin did you send command M502 followed by M500 then power cycle the printer?

      @@MatthewUpp I found M997 on Marlin wiki it's supposed to trigger a SD update.... didn't work. I'll keep searching, but if I don't find anything I have a btt SKR-1.3 and a 1.4turbo I could replace the board with... but going back to the original firmare would be the best option. thanks for the reply.

      We had issues upgrading from 41 to 45. We at first used the SD card the printer came with. (small 128mb thing) that left the printer in a bad state. the UI seemed to work but the temps and move commands were not working from the display, and serial communication was broken. I dug out an old 2GB SanDisk micro SD card and tried again, making sure it was FAT32 formatted. That did the trick and it powered up fine.
      A few notes, the lighted button on the side never blinked.. but after.. 10 seconds or less the firmware version showed up on the display, and I was able to navigate to the temps page and see that it was indeed communicating with the main board.

    This doesn't work with the included SD card. Can you recommend a card that works on Amazon?

    • @MatthewUpp
      @MatthewUpp  7 лет назад +1

      +Sasha Sklar not wanting to recommend a card because I have only my machines to test with.
      The two cards below were tested on one Select Mini V1, three Select Mini V2's, and two Mini Deltas (beta and production unit).
      Worked with new and old firmware: Kingston Digital 16GB microSDHC Class 10 UHS-I 45MB/s Read Card with SD Adapter (SDC10G2/16GB)

      Did not work with new or old firmware: SanDisk 2GB MicroSD / TransFlash Card w/SD Adapter camcorder - SDSDQ-2048
