    I appreciate your common sense approach to troubleshooting and repair.
    I agree with your earlier analysis, it's not really needed. It makes no significant improvement.

      yep i would tend to agree cheers

      No significant improvement ? How bad it would’ve become without it ? Everything that is there was there prior to the breather. Take it off and ride another 5000miles. It will be worse than it is now

    Did homemade Trask gearbox vent, just over couple of months ago (19/114 Rks touring)
    Think from lots this is the best maybe, & the bike even seems to respond better since.
    Though this just maybe psychological, as with any changes made.
    Keep up the good work mate 🥂🍻🇬🇧

    It seems that the M8 until 2019 has issues because of the oil pump (since 2020 HD M8 come with a different oil pump), the vented dipstick is a good solution, the better solution would be the vented dipstick + a new oil pump.

      Yes certainly with any upgrade work

    It would be interesting to see the contents of a catch can after 5000 miles. That would definitely let you know how much is actually coming out and not getting burned up on your piston. I'm putting an external breather on my Slim this weekend. I just can't see any down side to having one. Great video as always!

      Good luck with the vented dilstick.
      On my 21 Slim the only way i could get it to not puke oil out was to run it at the add level when hot.
      I ended up going with the Trask vented trans cover. No issues and i can run the oil level at a more comfotable level.
      I have my air cleaner vented also and tried a catch can but all it did was collect condensation from the hot air getting pumped into it so i removed it.

      I wouldn’t wait 5000 miles to check it in case in gets clogged. But that would be a good test.

      Waiting 5000 miles would be a mistake. Most users are checking/cleaning them every couple hundred miles.

    The only fuelling issue is putting crappy ethanol fuel in our motors e5 e10 e15 e20 e25 corn sugar not good ,except for making toffee apples 🍎

    Putting an external breather on may not make a huge difference but every little bit helps. Pumping the combustion gases back into the engine seems like a dumb idea and with no effect to the environment directing it to a catch can I think is a good idea.

    That is interesting. Wonder how different it would be on a New M8 that had a dipstick or vent installed right away.

    Did my own Breather set up on my 08 dyna FB and lots of milky/creamy looking deposit in my “catch can” , a fuel filter that i used. Thoughts on that. Really enjoy your video btw....cheers

    • @RevelatorAlf
      @RevelatorAlf  3 года назад

      Cheers. It’s likely to be the mixing of oil residue and condensation from the hot air coming from the engine breathers

    Wow the M-8 seems to have some crazy issues, Not being mean here it just seems like HD really dropped the ball when they did their long term tests before releasing it the public. I have a 62' pan and when pulled the heads it's got some carbon' But not wet at all and no where near the thickness that was shown on your pistons. For me that much wetness says they have oil savaging issues, Because fuel will dry up quickly right? I"m really curious about this because this has stopped me from a purchase. Building another stroker pan instead. ; ) (edit) Very nice job with video thank you !!

    Are you doing a closed loop system meaning the clean side of the catch can is piped back into the intake? Do you see a benefit to keep it as a closed loop?

      It could definitely be a heat related issue. That was my thought too

    Ive been waiting for your results, my issue is I live in Australia, & I'm reluctant to tamper with emission controls & falling foul of the EPA, being fined & having my bike thrown off the road. I know I am getting oil residue in the throttle body, I just don't know what to do, I'm between the rock & the hard place.

    • @RevelatorAlf
      @RevelatorAlf  3 года назад +2

      Yep, you can do a stealth fix and hide it behind the air filter. Would still work fine

    By virtue of being a ICE motor you will always have some build up. I can tell you this……..
    Not dumping that oily mist back in the motor has to help. Put the external
    Breather on my 19 M8 and it was like my bike instantly woke up!
