Harley Davidson New Bikes 2025 | Have Harley Done Enough?

- Both Harley Davison and Indian Motorcycles launched their new products for 2025 just a mere day apart. There were some positives for both manufacturers but will it be enough to repair Harley Davidson poor 2024 performance or for Indian to grab a big market share?

The local Harley dealership near me did something I think is a really smart move. Instead of closing, they expanded, to double their size, into the next-door parking lot. And in the expansion half, they sell Triumph and Royal-Enfields. The reason this is a good move is that in Harley's lineup there are no starter bikes. They are what you build up to over time. So now, the dealer can capture new riders who are looking at Triumph and R-E, but plant a seed in their mind because to get to those bikes they will not be able to help but noticing the Harleys on their way in. It creates a pipeline for future customers, and meanwhile, while creating that pipeline, they're making money off of the Triumphs and R-E's. It's win-win.
Except, aside from the 400s, all of the triumphs are superior bikes for much cheaper.
I hope they split the dealerships into separate buildings/dealerships or HD might end their dealership agreement. HD is not known for tolerating the sale of other motorcycles in their dealerships, even used trade-in bikes, ever since they started forcing the HD megamall on dealerships and ended the mom&pop shops.
Top of range street glide starts at 40 grand!!!!!!!
I have owned both. Harley is slow to adapt the new speedometer with phone connection and gps ability. Indian has done that. Harley should have included that on the low rider ST as Indian did with the chief.
Thank you Harley-Davidson for becoming so ridiculous in your models and prices that you've forced me to step back and ReDiscover Honda.
Crf 300
Glad you're back mate...was waiting for your sensible comment.
Me, because of medical issues with wrists and knees a 300+ Milo bike is off the menu.
Still banging on about why they can't/ won't give us a sporty that looks like a proper Sporty
I think they'll have another poor year.
Cheers
They added new colors and an actual LED Brake light. This is Groundbreaking!! ($2-3K more)
The only problem I see is my local dealership has 179 unsold New 2024 models and some New 2023 models.
@@DesertCoyote-t5k mine also has a similar amount of 23 and 24 models with more 25 models coming in as HD have insisted they have the new models!
Currently for example a £34k Ultra is on offer at £27k but will go lower, it’s unregistered 23/24 model
@ my Harley dealership is so smug and cocky. They’re still trying to mark up some of their motorcycles. Like $5000 over MSRP. They call it DSRP.
If you can get a good deal, I say go for it. That’s what I’m waiting on.
* Not financial advice*
My advice is not to buy a new Harley, because they suck horribly for the price.
Same here but they still are asking for a lot of money for the 2023/24's LOL
@@logangodofcandy yup Id rather have a low rider with a evo engine
FYI…. We were still getting the 107 Sport Glide in Australia up to 2024. Seems like the Sport Glide is now discontinued with the 2025 model releases. I’ll keep riding mine for a while yet, because I reckon there are going to be a stack of new 2024-5 models still on the shop floor in 2026-27. HD has lost the plot on pricing and the market is keeping their wallets in their pockets till good discounts come in. Discounting may not be the jam of HD but turnover is key and if you don’t turnover models, cashflow is crunched and dealers will close.
Good video mate, tons of info. I think HD dealers are dying in the UK, price definitely has something to do with it, plus, us old and bold are becoming less and less, new kids on the block cant afford HD, so they go with cheaper options, should never have got rid of the Sporty, maybe we will be left with only a handful in the next few years. I now live in Canada and HD are having similar issues over here, needless to say the states is always gonna keep selling, its their biggest market by far. New Sub.
I absolutely love what Harley did this year. All my views are based on the American market, btw. All the bikes are finally modern in that they all have the available technology now, rider modes, led, rsrd, cruise control, so on. The new engines have me wanting a new Harley for the first time in 4 years. The “sport” models all received a needed price DECREASE! Thailand anyone? I would buy a bike made in Thailand, no problem. The Pan Am ST is the bike that really has me excited this year! I absolutely have to ride one! They are making it hard for me to hang on to my 21 LRS. As far as cost. If people want their “American” Harley Davidson? You are going to pay more for that.
I think HD should bring back the XR750. 400lbs 80hp for 10-11k. HD needs to have a smaller, less expensive bike in their lineup. Selling fewer more expensive bikes will ultimately lead to a business failure.
Because of how dealerships work, HD is not likely to be posting big losses until dealerships en mass start refusing new bikes/floorplans. The bikes on the dealership floor functionally are already paid for by the dealerships. This is the same reason why the auto industry took a few years to start feeling the pain the dealerships have been going through post COVID.
I suspect 2025 will be a really bad year for HD, as I think most HD dealerships now are sitting on huge backlogs of vehicles going back 2-4 years, and just don't even have space for new bikes. People also do not have the disposable income for premium motorcycles which is why companies like BMW are coming out with cheaper smaller displacement motorcycles.
Also as for the Pan America, I think sales are going to crater now that HD moved assembly out of the USA, and increased the price. Why the hell should I as a buyer pay the HD premium for a bike not made in America? HD leadership really wants to be Rolex, but Rolex still makes everything in Switzerland.
Some people say HD has always been expensive and if inflation were taken into account the price has actually come down. What this doesn’t account for is the mind boggling erosion of wages over the last 30 years, in particular the last few years which has seen an exponential drop - attributed to an exponential increase in wealth amongst the top 1%.
Harley is appealing to the top 1%, and the upper class who are the new middle class. Good for them.
That isn't how wealth works. The rich don't have money. They have property and stocks. They don't have more property or stocks. Your money is just worth less, so everything costs more. When there is more money and not enough stuff to buy, prices increase.
Inflation is devaluation of currency though increase in supply of currency. The demand of currency is only so high. We could all work 80 hours a week, but we don't want money that bad. That is how demand for currency works. Supply and demand applies to money. Western governments and printing too much money, spending too much money, which creates debt that acts as increased currency, and they are taxing us too much.
The money needs to flow easier, which means lower taxes and more money in your hands, as well as the hands of businesses that can use that money to hire more, expand, upgrade, and offer higher salaries for better employees.
@ Thanks Adam Smith
BMW motorcycles which are also an expensive "prestige" brand had a record year. Selling over 200,000 bikes, so your argument that economic factors are the reason that HD bikes are not selling is not valid.
HD bikes are not selling because because they have lost touch with the market and HD fanboys.
Royal Enfield also had a record year and Honda is delighted with its sales and are expanding their range with more retro bikes.
Expect HD sales to shrink even more this year 😮😮
BMW is the leading edge of performance and technology.
Harley is using 120 year old engine technology in basic steel frames.
The Harleys cost more...
@larryhouse3776 that's a little harsh, M8 is an updated knucklehead so it's 95 year old Tech
@@larryhouse3776 I was picking between a R1250R and a Fat Boy this year. The BMW was effortless to ride, almost perfect, the Fat Boy was prehistoric by comparison. I bought the Fat Boy because the BMW was so good that it had removed, for me, most of the visceral thrill of riding.
@@alanbriggs7177 i can agree to that, I'd choose the Harley Davidson aswell. The real problem falls in that the H-D is nearly $30,000. And fundamentally to its core, it does everything and rides like a $9000 Kawasaki Vulcan 900.
You hit the nail on the head, baggers and cruisers in this market are going to struggle with new bike sales and the most popular style of bike it the adventure bike so I agree the Pan America should be the best seller from both companies so with that in mind why did Indian drop the FTR? Ideal platform to develop an on road adventure bike? Also as you say independent HD garages are about and popping up but not Indian? As an Indian owner I struggle with dealership coverage and their are no independent garage options and in my experience Polaris are not very customer driven. Love the bikes not sure on the current styling want to stay with Indian but worry they are going the same way as Victory?
If "in other parts of the world" the Sport Glide and Fat Bob (107"), or even the Softail Standard and Hydra-Glide revival are available, it is the 2024 model leftover bikes, as far as I can see on the websites.
Same for Ultra Limited and Road Glide Limited (114").
Total motorcycle sales differ strongly per country, even across Europe (= including UK 😊).
HD softails 2025 are great bikes 😊
I bought an Indian Scout and it's a fun little bike. Feels a bit like a toy. Spunky little engine that's fun to wind out. By the time I added things to make it practical, it cost about what my Road King did. It is not on the same planet as my old Road King, but it is a lot easier for my crippled ass to get out of the garage. That's more and more important as time goes by.
Good thing you got a good deal on your Road King! Pretty much any Road King newer than 5 years old goes for $20k+ new or used these days. Even a fully accessorized Scout is thousands cheaper, makes the same power, and weighs half as much! The Scout may be better performing, but the Road King is still a way better touring bike 👍
The scout is too fun.
A scout isn't a touring bike. Its a scout.
@logangodofcandy Yea, and it's very fun.
although harleys now come with all the tech they should have had on years ago and even the street bob with a 117 and £1000 less than last years price for me it wasnt enough. i got a very good trade in deal for my sportster and got a suzuki gsx-8r for next to nothing. i doubt i will return to the brand in the future the 14k needed is out of reach and isnt something i could commute on. the suzuki will more likely be very reliable, can use every day and also enjoy on days off.
Harley Davidson is too busy chasing the Rolex business model. Id buy a new Harley Davidson tomorrow if it actually made sense. But a Fat Boy is damn near $40,000 in Canada. Harley can keep it!
Pr disaster, dealerships closing everywhere. Insurance skyrocketing, second hand values and trade in value plummeting. If they claim good financial results, they are SERIOUSLY COOKING THE BOOKS😂
Do we think The Motor Co. is just "mailing it in?"
I also hold the new Pan America to a bit higher expectation. It indicates. I hope, a bit of corporate mental flexibility and an eye to future growth. Can they get supple enough to weather the storms of a thinning market?
Harley is still way to expensive.
The 2025 lineup is extremely cool, something others can’t replicate.
The ST is perfect for me, with the new updates, just got to work out how i can finance one?
People are downsizing, the 300-450cc smaller cost effective Retro clone, with character, is what will be the big thing in 2025. We been asking, well begging for the major manufactures to supply good quality basic affordable bikes, and they have ignored us. In 2025 we have the new Honda GB350, Enfield Classic 350, Meteor 350, Classic 350, Hunter 350, DRZ4S CF Moto 450 MT, BMW new 450 GS, this is almost a return back to the 70s & 80s when 85% of the bikes were small capacity, compact, easy to live with, cheap and all rounders.
I am so turned off by all of the Harley woke crap over the last couple of years I wouldn't even consider buying anything new from HD. In the USA 77% of us are overweight. The obesity rate is expected to go over 50% by 2030. 35% inflation over the last 10 years. The general population is sick, fat, and broke.
The problem is Harley’s cost to much for what you get.. let’s be honest the 121 shud be base engine, 131 shud be cvo, and none of there bike shud cost more than 40k and that’s a lot
Indian gives you everything you want and cud need on a bike way less. And more reliable
Indian is irrelevant to me - just find them to be cheap, plastic and not appealing to look at.
Harley - launch was soft. Like the 117’s in the Softails. The colors are cool. Wish they would have gone full hooligan with the pan America ST. It was a half effort. Don’t like the single exhaust on Softails, the ultra is an absolute joke, and pricing needed to come down about 10%.
Lmao the only reason Harley is here is because they cried like Lil bitches to the government for help. P^$$y ass company, oh, and they went woke it was a disgrace a horrible disgrace.
Finding an Indian dealer is much harder than an HD dealer in the US. I have 2 different HD dealers within 15 miles of me. The nearest Indian dealer is 100 miles away in a different state... then 190 miles for the next closest. I like Indian, but without the dealer network, I don't want to buy one. If a dealer was local to me and seemed to be doing great I'd consider it.
Harley has two problems: 1) They're too slow to move off the giant Cruiser/"Biker" thing, (the Pan America is a tiny step); selling-off Buell was a major mistake 2) Their bikes are ROYALLY expensive.
The more expensive thing is actually part of their plan. They want to sell less but make more profit per bike. Kind of like a boutique thing for rich people.
Seen Indians prices? Pretty much the same for comparable bikes.
@@mickeygaines007 I haven’t looked at Indian. Pretty much converted to riding Suzuki on most days especially in the winter. In my area a VStrom 650 does just about everything I need done. I rode Harley most of my life but I just can’t justify the cost of a new one when my 103 is still running just fine.
I personally was disappointed by the Pan America ST, they could have made it SO much cooler! Especially the big and boring exhaust and back part are just so lackluster
At the moment it is a loose-loose for everyone and a big and long downwards spiral: As you said, the market demand is not growing (economics & demographics) and people are not into buying Motocycles. HD's portfolio & prices do not reflect that fact. Dealers are therefore under high pressure and understaffed and act cocky with their arrogance whilst having a bad service. The customer in the end is left alone... While I think the upgrades this year were solid and in our region the prices "just" went up 2%, I also don't think LED lights and ride modes will bring many more new / old customers in. The nightster / sportster are just simply not desirable enough for this steep price point as an entry, regarding the super high competition in that field.
The other thing is HD want a uniform look across its dealership range and that costs alot of money for the dealer. And if the bike sale ain't happening, where do they get the money.
I cant imagine HD doing anything for me, for the price of one of their bikes i got two motorcycles a cargo trailer and a quad.
Harley haters are just envious,Harley have upped their game, bigger engines rider modes ,full led better shocks etc .try riding one
As you know, I own the 2023 Pan America Special; it's a fabulous motorcycle.
I'm selling my Heritage Softail; the plan is to love the PanAm.
Although, I am looking at the 2025 Olive Drab Honda Fury! All that bike needs is a stripe and a Star.
😅
marcus
I'm in Cali and have an old 91 springer and an electra glide standard 2021 . I'm looking for something nimble, harley is lacking , I'm looking at royal enfield for something reasonable and fun!
HD have done what they always do not a lot and just enough, the Pan America is 4 years old now and needs a full face lift and update with a proper off-road model not a ST! Just launch the Bronx with the 1250 instead!
Every video I see on this channel is moaning about HD. Does it not get emotionally draining…? They smashed it this year IMO. Significant upgrades to the LRS(T) and other models and cheaper than last year taking inflation into account. Marketing is great too; no more woke bs. Love it.
Yah HD finally put LED marker lights in. Now we just gotta get the Japanese to stop putting drum brakes on motorcycles.
The way I see it- HD has caught up to what others WERE/Have been doing, the HD faithful will continue to do what the HD faithful have always done- while others won’t be lured in by the iconic bar & shield- everything is expensive and HD has already made it clear, it’s not the affordable option, but they aren’t just selling motorcycles, they are selling “lifestyle “
Never mind that the lifestyle is branded by a corporation out to make profit- but it’s safe to say, you pull up to your local bike night on a HD & there is something extra that you get, how much longer that lasts is yet to be determined, but rather that’s worth the extra money or not is up to whoever signs the paper work and makes the payments-
The PAm ST is 'not' coming to Australia.
HD has 90% of the bagger market. They are doing enough. Marketshare confirms this.
Fantastic but not everyone wants a big bagger and has a lazy 30k lying around for a bike.
@@metcruza5536 You dont have to buy new. You can get a HD bagger for $20K with very low miles in excellent condition. Most ppl that ride these are older so they can afford them. You can get used softails in excellent condition for $10K. The new HD bike have really dropped the prices on used ones.
The 2025 Chieftain and Challenger wiht the 108 and the new 1012 power plus engine are going to eat HDs for breakfast no matter what their displacement. Rumor has it Indian are going to release a 120 and 130cubic inch Thunderstroke.
You said both indian and harley need to make cheaper bikes but indian has the scout 60 starting at 10k and the super scout starts at 17k with variants for both that range between both price points imo is pretty cheap for an American motorcycle manufactured and i will agree with you on the heavy weight bikes are getting ridiculous over priced good video though.
Harley screwed up the Rev Max engine. The 975 is literally just a 1250 with less displacement, making it too heavy and large for a Bronx or smaller Pan America. They came out with all of their models in the wrong order, which hurt their image
They should have started with a more proper 975 cruiser, and called it the Sportster. Then after everyone buys that up, come out with the 1250 cruiser and call it the Nightster. Except, make it a proper cruiser without the Indian FTR lookin pipes and shitty seat. At the same time, they should have come out with a 975 Bronx and Pan America to give the Nightster/Sportster guys to upgrade into. Lastly, a Pan America and Bronx 1250. By this time, they would have ironed all the kinks out of the rev max engine and the 1250 Pan Am would be bulletproof on release. The entire Rev Max lineup would be solid.
Mate you are 100% right.
They replaced a solid selling Sporty with a non seller in the Nightster.
Bloody hell at least the Nightster couldve looked like a proper Sporty and finished on BOTH sides.
I live in Swindon and like you said the Reading dealer has shut and also the Abingdon has shut aswell. It only leaves Chelltenham or Guilford which are quite a ride to get there I hope someone will still service Harleys localy
HD1 is the independent that has opened in Reading, which I think was being referred to in the video. I hope they do a good job of filling the gap left by Abingdon's closure.
Edinburgh Harley Davidson (Easter Western Motor Group) just announced they are concluding their franchise with Harley Davidson. That means there will only be one dealer in Scotchland. TBH I think we only need one dealer as we have big geography but not a massive (biking) population. I had recently boycotted EHD coz of their crap customer service. Now they have a bike sales promo on 😂.
Check the J D Powers Harley trade values before you even think of a new Harley. I bought a new 2023 low rider st and in 9 months it’s now worth $10,000 less per JD Powers.
I'll be honest, I have ridden and owned motorcycles for over 40 years. I have never purchased a used bike, I always wanted to have a warranty associated with new over used. Not once have I considered Harley Davidson. The reason why? Price and a terrible reputation for reliability.
Raising prices won’t work, Harley. You are headed in the wrong direction. Your 2025 lineup is boring and grossly overpriced. Get your tone-deaf executives and directors out of there and install new people who understand what is going on out here in the real world.
As a middle American, HD is a joke to most here these days.
Prices in sweden is stupid now😂
Indian out did Harley. But Harley always drops something new after this.
3.9% on 24 plates is good
"Bold New Prices!"
The 25s bring HDs up to date. LRST with sat nav and blu tooth would be good enough. Baggers only 2k more start point. Bagger cvo 100% more, for what? HD cost base , wages, too high. Deluded workers pricing co out along with execs running co to their own agendas. Like all co.
I forget where, but there was a discussion of Indian going direct to consumer. Eliminating dealership networks😮 That's actually a viability desperation move... Consumerism is not what it once was... Been motorcycles may have to justify themselves as transportation devices😂 Again??
Absolutely pathetic from Harley and the typical stooge customers licking their boots. They upgraded the lowrider to what it should have had standard in 2018, and the stooges clapped like trained monkeys taking the huge unjustifiable price increases. So, for $40,000 dollars, you get a lowrider St. that doesn't have a TFT, ohlins suspension, or even the now market standard of Brembo stylima brakes 😂. The clown show that is Harley continues on in 2025.
Its a fact harley only want big dealerships.
😂 And if you buy a Harley you have to be able to afford... Sending it brand new, to your favorite customizer... To make it unique after throwing another 10 grand into it 😔 unless you want the latest cool trends which means you'll be throwing an extra 20 grand into it😂
RDRS on all the cruisers is a big deal.
Harley needs to stop raising the prices or they are going to fall on their faces. Well, there are plenty of idiots out there paying the high prices and I blame them more than the company.
No more new bikes for me I’ll be keeping what I have
The bikes are getting dearer every year.
"These times of woe afford no time to woo." Perhaps Harley Davidson's strategy is like Romeo and Juliet fighting time to make their love last forever. In the end, the only way they seem to defeat time is through a death that makes them immortal through art. Romeo the Road King and Juliet the Sportster, or they are just plain old stupid. Whatever is going on, I will not be be buying a motorcycle with a television screen.
With concerns to the Softail, you forgot to mention the major technology upgrades. I'm not going to mention what they are. THATS YOUR JOB.
OMG Rider Modes, this is Groundbreaking who would have thought of this. WOW Rider Modes that’s incredible!
At the price point they should be market leaders in bike tech. They are not so why mention it.
Look the new generation is soft. Harley is symbol of toughness masculinity. People nowadays want soft. Women used to be crazy about bikers now I have no clue what they like. Thank God I have been married for over 20 years. To a real good woman! A real woman. I have no hate towards Indian. They just don’t have a long history like Harley. This whole Biker culture was built by Harley owners and Harley. I’m old school. When I grew up, I wanted to always own Harley and now that I’ve owned a few. I will die being a Harley fan. Maybe Indian will take over in the future I hope not. To me they just don’t have the quality and the run like Harley.
@Carmichael5898 oh boy. Remember Harley was the 1st American motorcycle company to go woke, not indian. What does that tell you?
@ actually so did Indian go woke, Harley got called out. I don’t like they went woke, unfortunately it’s the damn CEO he’s the woke one. For what ever reason the asshole is still there.
CEO needs to go, won't buy a new Harley ever again.
Harley made good bikes? Oh, they didn't. I thought they may have
They should lower the price on the standard and keep it the way it is!
You know what though I see a lot of people buying scooters so all Davidson needs to look at and look into the scooter, marketing and master that down even if you have to come up with another name or some kind of division of scooters, I guarantee you Davidson to make money, big money and make them look just as classy as Harley Davidson known for and things will work out fine but I think Harley Davidson is missing the market because you got people out there is so cheap and then it’ll be fair. The economy is a factor a main factor so if Harley Davidson can figure that out they’ll have something going because when I’m driving, I see motorcycles of course but a lot of scooters far away the motorcycle industry when I’m driving rush-hour every day back-and-forth so if Harley can get in there and mass of the scooters, that’s where the money is personally I don’t like scoffers they don’t have enough horsepower +2. The little engine has to work so hard to push a 200 and something pound man around I don’t think so. I need a big Harley Davison to push me fat Bob fat boy Lowrider breakout Lowrider ST something like that that I push me and take me far on that I hope all Davidson can figure that out if they can they gotta win win situation going
