Very nice pictures of the Dutch waterways and lakes with the ships , in harmony with the music at the background ! Compliments from a Dutchman/Hollander
Moin Gerd...what a beautiful video. Thank you. I have been wondering about possibilities of living aboard in Holland and your video answers many questions for me. Thanks again - danke.
Greetings from California ! Very well done Gerd. Love your video ! I've always wanted to do something like that in Europe and someday I will . Getting close to retirement and really like the idea of an adventure like yours. Thanks for posting . All the best, Monte
Where did you sail to and from? The Dutch are some of the most famous sailors in the world (maybe in your DNA). I expect you must be quite adventurous. I appreciate the quiet video, stunning scenery and the beautiful music though. Texas
Blistering Barnacles ! I imagine you are a Tintin fan . This was the translation of Captain Haddocks ' Mille Sabords' into English. Not very accurate but as close as you could get.
I love your video! (if you ever get the chance to recommend any places in the Netherlands to purchase a sailboat like yours.. Or any other advice, then many viewers might find it very useful).. (and if it wasn't too much of a personal question, how much did you pay for your sail boat? Thanks =)
Very nice to see that you also can live in a sailboat in the Netherlands. I wondered how many euros you paid per year on mooring fees? Greetings from the Netherlands.
You are right, the mooring fees are the big issue when you try to live on a boat. Actually, if you are on a very tight budget, the Netherlands are a great place for liveaboards. There are many inland waterways where you find free, public moorings, both in the northern part, Friesland, as well as in the Zeeland Delta where I am. for the Grevelingemeer you pay 50 € for the entire 7 month season and find lots of places where you can stay 3 days for free, the Veersemeer is completely free, with lots little moorings on small islands and in free "harbors" and you can always stay 24 hours free... so you can really spend the entire season with zero mooring fees, many do. For the winters you can get very interesting flat monthly or season prices in the harbors around here, with electricity, showers, washing machines etc working.
Salut 👋 la je suis en direction de la Belgique Hollande je viens juste de quitter l’Atlantique je suis ds la manche ... t’es images sont vraiment jolies bravo et merci pour les images peace
I was heating with an ORIGO Heat pal, older model, runs on alcohol (ethanol). I have just come through my second winter with that same heater, and it's really not very good, hot or healthy... no evacuation to the outside, so a lot of condensation, and quite a bit of soot ove rthe months. It's ok for a weekend, but... I will not do another winter with that. I am looking at REFLEKS type oil heaters, run on diesel oir heating oil when available, no need for electricity. Dont work when heeled, but otherwise very nice. Paraffin heaters with a stove pipe are also nice, but heating all winter with that woudl cost a lot of money. Amazing really how much money you can spend on such a small volume ;)
I tried every way to heat my boat, oil, kero, gas. Shipmate range couldn't hold fire overnight. Then I found a brooder house heater, fired it with anthracite coal twice a day and heated it fine.
yes, wood or coal gives great dry heat, but on a very small boat like mine storing your fuel is not very practical. a pity, because if you are in an area where you could pick up your wood that would help the budget a lot. Its amazing how much it costs to heat such a small volume...
I'm restoring a 23 crystal halcyon and about to install solar panels wind turbine alternator and 8 240ah batteries. I'm hoping this will be sufficient energy to power heating along with everything else electric on board. I'm using 4 marine heat bars at 800w per bar. I believe these will be excellent for lesser condensation... A converter is needed too. Im using 3 10000w converters. I believe this is the future for all boats.
hi Radio ;) yes, still on the boat, coming to the end of my fith liveaboard year by now and not ready to move on the hard. Changed for a very slightly bigger one though, a 40 year old 9m Jeanneau Folie Douce

Hi Gerd, Thanks for sharing your experience of living one year on such a small boat. Takes a lot of courage I think.

Very nice !
je öfter ich mir dein video ansehe desto besser gefällt mir die idee
Hi Gerd, did you work with Marine Boilers before retiring? Thought I recognised you, Enquest?
Hi Donald, no, I did lots of things, built several steel boats and did quite a bit of welding, but always as an amateur. later I was in IT...#
Good for you!
Lovely story. Sorry about the diesel.
Inspiring. Thank you
Nice video Gerd but it would be even better with some comments. Btw. how did you heat the boat in the wintertime ? What about toilet / shower use?
heating see above. Toilet is chemical potty, or toilets and shower ashore where available
For this sailor, you captured some very familiar moments of boat life. What type of heater do you use in the cabin?
I was heating with an ORIGO Heat pal, older model, runs on alcohol (ethanol). Some people don’t need others to justify them self. Alone is not loneliness. It’s where you find yourself, who you are and what matters.
Nothing depressing here.. that is a personal problem.
but then,... this vid is not about you..
Not at all depressing. A man at peace with himself and his boat.
@@ronprince1478 yup, you can be perfectly happy alone and you can be the loneliest person in the world surrounded by people, it all depends.
