I am going through this right now and I’ve never been so sad in my life. I feel ugly and self conscious and wanna cry every time I look in the mirror. Im doing my fifth peel tomorrow because im trying to trust the process but watching this and reading the comments made me feel a little better
Esthetician here: First and foremost she should have been totally transparent about what to expect out of your peel with realistic expectations. the reason your face is “purging” so much is because she did not acclimate your skin before hand, which is done by a series of facials before hand to help the esthetician get better knowledge on your skin specifically, as well as having you start using a AHA wash/serum regimen before for about a month (2 weeks MINIMUM in some cases). The chemical basically shocked the skin since your face was not use to using those type of acids bc u werent on a regimen with them before, causing the cells to turn over too fast. “Normal” breakouts are inevitable with peels, as it pushes bacteria already in the skin-out of it. A series of 3-4 peels done by a better esthetician (once a month at most) would be absolutely amazing on you. Hope this helps!
I REALLY RESONATE with when you said I have a life to live! My skin is currently purging post- chemical peel and I had no idea it was going to be this bad.
It will be okay. My emotions were all over the place during this peel thing. I understand. Why is your skin purging? from the peel to tretinoin? Do you have a dermatologist?
I got two sessions of perfect chemical peel… my skin is purging even after 3 weeks … will this ever ends … I am feeling like this doesn’t end … I got chemical peeling from a spa…
They probably already mentioned this to you, but with the tretinoin you have to wear sunscreen everyday and moisturize very well because tretinoin dries out your skin. I use tretinoin at night at least 1 to 2 hrs before i got to sleep. I wear sunscreen everyday, even if i dont leave the house, preferably mineral but it does leave a white cast (native and olay mineral sunscreens are good because they don't leave a white cast), chemical sunscreens don't leave a white cast. I'm getting ready to try alpha arbutin for dark spots, some dermatologists are raving about it. If you haven't already check out Dr Dray and Dr Alexis Stephens for videos about tretinoin and sunscreen. Blessings on your skin care journey, also Dr Vanitta Rattan makes lots of videos on hyperpigmentation.
Thank you for your feedback, Mony! I use sunscreen but I haven't been using it in the house. I will start though. I'll check out their videos on tretinoin and sunscreen. How long have you been using it? Have you seen a good reduction in hyperpigmentation?
@@jamilania9230 Yes definitely, I have been using it for over 2 and 1/2 years, recently i just started using curology tretinoin with azaelic acid and i use a cream at night with tranexamic acid to help fight hyperpigmentation, but i feel the tretinoin alone with sunscreen help as long as i dont do anything that is irritating to my skin.
This is nothing compared to mine. My skin was SO bumpy. And now I have terrible hyperpigmentation from the break out. I’m doing biorepeel weekly and the break out is gone but I have black mark alls over my face. I’m glad everything came out of my skin but I would never to Cosmelan peel again
I was looking for videos of someone else who has gone through this. My experience is from heat after a peel my skin blisters and looks like that. This could be sunlight, opening the oven, hot showers, being in a hot car. Anything that creates heat in or on your body. That’s why peels are suggested in the cooler months. Summer time it’s hard to keep the body cool and to avoid direct sunlight. Calming ingredients and hydration works best, but in time it will heal.
Oh my gosh, I wish I had seen your video before I had my Jessner peel down two weeks ago. My skin dried out so much and I came out of the peel with way more breakouts. It’s two weeks tomorrow and I am still having breakouts and wish I had not gotten one :-( I’ve had one done many years ago and had a great experience but this was a deeper one and my skin didn’t like it.! Does tretnoin help with acne as well ?
Yeah, the Esthetician should have known better and should have advised me to stop using my skincare for at least two weeks prior to my peel. I still am recovering from the scars, but I’ve had a lot of improvement. Yes, tretinoin very much helps with acne and scarring/hyperpigmentation. Retin-A is great. Sorry about your skin situation. I suggest going to a dermatologist and hearing what they suggest. I also have a Azelaic Acid prescription that I use in the AM instead of my Curology now. It’s a little stronger. I’lll do a skin update soon.
omggg! The same thing happened to me. Got VI Peel Plus 3/1/22 & the "purging started day 4 and it was painful lly itching which was really probably burning. Now it's 3/14 and i still have the breakouts & my skin IS darker. I never had so many bumps b4 in my life. After the procedure and I was checking out, they were a s king me to buy a package of 2 more and told me I could come once a month. I was like NO, that's too soon, I spaced them out for every 3 weeks. I am going to ask for my money back. I want to cry. I wish I had seen this video before March 1st. 😭 I pray my skin heels....
Your suppose to get another peel over the dark spots and the purging. You use retin a in between come off it for 3 days then get the peel. It gets better
Of course. Thanks for watching. I used Aquafor each morning and night on my skin to moisturize so it wasn't dry, it was just tight. Is that what you're asking?
@@jamilania9230 Yes, because I tried the VI Peel the intensive kind and it was drying because I was not prepared for what was to happen in seven days even though they told me and gave me the packet to wash and sunscreen etc. blah blah blah. So I wanted to know how another Black girl deals with a chemical the season to do it and also the maintenance plus results! Thanks!!!🥰
I live with a sensitive/ combinational/ acne prone skin for many years , many cosmetologists are dishonest, and they try to upsell expensive procedures we don’t need. in the end they have ruined my skin!!!I was anxious to fix my skin and to look better.I wasn’t patient with it. I would only recommend gentle procedures for everybody!!!!! don’t do deep peels, micro-needleling, or lasers! if really want a peel , do you only light and gentle . Deep skin damaging procedures leave you with more pigmentation, melasma, bad skin that looks plastic, Orange peel, and sagging((( be gentle with your skin with gentle products, take care of stress and eat healthy.
I’m so shocked the esthetician applied the chemical peel without first having you take a break from the tretinoin. Your skin may have been too sensitive for the chemicals used. I’ve been using tretinoin for about two years and will usually stop using it 7- 10 days before getting any service like a chemical peel or even a hydrafacial. Definitely stick with the tretinoin, it did wonders for my skin along with clindamycin. Ask your derm about clindamycin, it will likely prevent your skin from purging so much. As far as the hyperpigmentation, use kojic acid soap. It’ll significantly reduce the pigmentation of dark spots, especially newer ones. Using tretinoin really simplified my skincare routine; I now wash with Cerave, add more moisture with a Tatcha essence, apply clindamycin, tretinoin (every other night), niacinamide (The Ordinary), and then moisturize with a Tatcha cream. And lastly, like another commenter posted, check out videos from Dr. Alexis Stephens and Dr. Vanita, they provide a wealth of information for Black and Brown skin, and also Dr. Dray.
Wow. That makes sense. They probably lack knowledge about skincare products that they should be more informed about. I definitely brought all of my skincare to my consultation for them to look at and take note of. That's why I will only be going to the esthetician at my dermatologist's office from now on. Clindamycin and niacinamide are ingredients in my Curology prescription cream. I'll definitely look into kojic acid soap. Thank you so much for sharing your skin routine and suggestions! It's so helpful 🤗
Dove sensitive skin bar soap on your face! I was cryyying... used the soap, 2 hours later down 75%. Don't know if it'll work for everyone. Worked for me. Hang in there

As an esthetician, I spend a lot of time helping patients CORRECT what has been done to their skin with lasers and peels done at other spas. Some of the main reasons medical treatments can backfire on acne prone skin types: 1)The skin was not adequately prepped for the treatment by using the right exfoliants in the weeks/months preceding; 2)The peel or laser treatment selected is too aggressive for the patient's current skin health; 3) The provider is treating the patient every 4 weeks with the aggressive laser or peel and is not giving the skin time to heal; 4) The wrong post care products are being used by the patient, even though they are often using products sold to them by their provider. When it comes to acne prone skin, remember "less is more". There is a delicate balance of treatment and repairing the skin barrier needed to avoid dangerous inflammation, horrendous breakouts and deep red scarring. For safer results AVOID: Fraxel/Pixel/Halo, Morpheus8 and medical grade peels; CHOOSE Microneedling with or without PRP and aesthetic grade peels.
@@jamilania9230 your purging was to much and to long. I think you had to much dead skin on the face before the peel. More preparation should have been done or a diffrent peel should have been used. It looks you had an inflammation.
