Our little baby girl was always upset, angry, and screaming the first few months of her life. We couldn't find anything consistent that would console her and we thought it was strong acid reflux. Eventually, our cousin and a couple other mommas recommended seeing if she had a lip tie or tongue tie. They recommended a specialist who lasers off any tongue-ties or lip-ties. We went just to see if there was an issue and learned that even though she could stick her tongue out, she couldn't move it up high enough to get a strong suction for milk and as a result was always gulping air which caused gas and remained hungry.
We wanted to share in case any other parents and moms out there are struggling with a constantly angry baby to get it checked out. She's so happy now!

Also something I never knew- if your breastfeeding is going “TOO well”, that can be an indication of a tongue tie too. My daughter is 7 years old and we just discovered she has 3 ties (lip, tongue, and cheeks). She has been to 4 different speech therapist since she was 3 for articulation issues and they all missed it. Finally a myofunctional therapist discovered it a few months ago.
I had way too much milk when I breastfeed her, and she would get so much and I had such a fast and heavy flow that she would sometimes projective vomit it up, yet doctors were not concerned and would wave me off. I could never give her tummy time because it would cause her to throw it all up (so now she has problems with retained reflexes because she didn’t get enough tummy time).
She would get about 20 oz at each feeding, would drain both sides in 6 mins- she gained so much weight so fast. So now looking back the myo therapist told me that was a indication that her tongue wasn’t able to control the flow to slow it down or stop it, she could only do the movement of suction to get more, signally my body to keep making more. I also had tons of clogged ducts and mastitis issues too because my breasts started making so much to meet her demand and then if she rejected one side it would get so painful. It took about 6 months before I found resources on how to slow down flow and supply which helped both of us tremendously.
Now my 7 year old has her tie release scheduled for next month. I’m hoping it helps with her articulation, tongue trust, food sensitivity and problems chewing food. I wish they would check this in the hospital before you leave. Regardless if the baby latches or not or if the parents are bottle feeding, just do a quick evaluation. We could have saved so much money and frustration if they caught it early.

I really wish I saw this video a year and a half ago. My baby has a big lip tie (which we didn't discover until his dentist pointed it out at his first appointment at 12 months). Anyways my baby screamed and would nurse for an hour straight and my milk eventually dried up when he was one week old. This video makes sense now why I wasn't able to feed him and why I dried up. I always thought it was my body wasn't good enough to feed my baby. Thank you for getting the word out for others! (P.s. lactation consultant even missed it)

This is something I've been suspecting about my baby, especially since as a teenager I had to have the connecting piece to my lip snipped. She's 3 months old. She swallows so much air, has so much gas, and gets choked eating all the time. I'm just not sure where to get this checked since the internet says most pediatricians aren't trained to diagnose it. I completely agree, this is not something they tell you about.

This happened with my son! They told me I. The hospital and said it was no big deal... I couldn’t breastfeed and thought it was me. six months later we introduced solids and found out he couldn’t move the food around in his mouth to swallow. So moral of the story is that don’t leave the hospital until they fix the tie. It’s a quick snip at that point or actually surgery later.

When you started talking about breastfeeding problems I guessed tongue tied. My sister had this problem with her son ... she was in bits. Here in Ireland the nurses didn't realise ... it was a La Leche League leader copped it. It's becoming more prevalent and they think it could be from Folic Acid. Very simple to fix once spotted. This video will help so many I'm sure

  • @motherofbrothers1122

Same! With my five year old :)
He was not gaining much at all and nursed constantly for the first two months! 9 different professionals looked at us before my random fellow Christian gal friend took a good under his tongue while he was crying. She knew what to look for because of her own daughter, and same story- we got his tongue and lip “revised” and it totally changed his world (and mine) best and (quickest) thing ever.
Now my third baby had a similar problem and the tongue tie revision didn’t help him very much! Turned out he had laryngomalcia too! Long story short- look up MTHFR and avoid synthetic folic acid- stick to genuine folate and avoid all toxins as much as possible as these are essentially very mild central line defects. :) that was our lesson! Being a mama- best and hardest thing ever. Much love!

My first had a high pallet she didn't have a tie but it was still hard for her.also she would not nurse in cradle hold I could nurse her to sleep on the bed on my side of even back but if I was upright she had to be up right she basically straddled my knee on the side I nursed and was almost sitting she would only payday if nursed to sleep I had to wear her constantly unless I nursed her to sleep then I could slide away I don't think the high pallet had anything to do with the nursing positions.looking back it was1 week of pumping no nursing I was ordered to pump and red every three hours regardless of she was awake. I literally remember putting a bottle in a sleeping babies mouth watching her sickle without opening her eyes I had to track quantities and times and pumping didn't always line up one time my pump schedule and red sexual was split in half I fed her then an hour and a half later pumped and wait an hour and a half because it takes a half hour then you got to wash everything and it was like three am. But my baby lost too much weight quickly. But she gained a lb a week for two months before slowing down. my son also lost too much weight but he was nursing so they put him on the scale before and after I just think my colostrum has a more powerful laxative effect than some. he was getting plenty. But that first week was brutal. after that when she learned to nurse she was a dream baby the kind that will give you baby fever

My dad (a dentist) was able to fix our daughter's tongue tie with the laser in literally 2 seconds.
