😍 when my niece would refuse to be potty trained at 2 and a half I just started putting her in panties and getting her dressed. It only took about two poop accidents where the poop ran down her and got all over her until she decided the toilet was a good idea.
People dont realize the diaper is a hindrance to a child knowing that they are pooping in their pants and that it stinks. No one wants poop on them. Even a 2 year old. When she was covered in stinky poop from the waist down instead of it neatly packaged in her absorbent diaper. That was enough for her to decide on her own to start using the toilet.

@@TanzaniteHayley It basically became routine. Honestly we kinda fell into potty training. One morning while on vacation I noticed she hadn't peed in her diaper so i sat her on the toilet as a joke. You could imagine my shock when she actually used it. So we just kept doing it. but a few mos of training and we moved to the next phase. So she was in pull ups by 1 and 6 mos later we were in undies. Also, we worked extremely irregular schedules so my grandmother had her a majority of the time so she would be left to potty training and while still very active that was a huge undertaking to leave to her. To add to it the daycare she would be attending required her to be some what potty trained before entering. Now with my schedule two weeks of training seems doable but I'm a "if it ain't broke don't fix it" girl.🤣 This way worked there's no going back.

My plan was just to sit him on there a few minutes a day so he would be used to the potty and not scared of it. As soon as he would use it I would take him off so after a while he just learned that he could use the bathroom and I would take him off. He couldn’t talk to tell me when he needed the bathroom but he would just wait til I would sit him on it. When I did this I didn’t even tell anyone because I didn’t want them to say I was crazy. Specially because I was a young mom. But when he was potty trained before a year old no one had anything bad to say. Everyone was amazed that I didn’t have to buy diapers. With my other two I didn’t do this only because I was working and didn’t have time. They were potty trained around a year and half. With them I was just like “hey, this is long enough.. no more diapers” and just stopped using them and they didn’t take long at all to catch on. I can easily potty train a kid.. house training a pet on the other hand, I suck at lol

That’s a great perspective. I’ve worked at daycares and the stress that parents feel when they have to quickly potty train their kids so they can be accepted at that daycare or in a specific classroom (split by age group) always affected the kids. At that point they’re old enough to catch on to the frustration and stress around accidents. Idk. I feel like doing it this young and with less stress would be very healthy.

Potty training from birth is basically potty training for 18 months. If you potty train at 2 years old, it takes about 2 weeks max. 2 weeks and a diaper bill? Or 18 months of running after your child trying to see their pee cues. Perhaps if you have just ONE child, or you are so poor that you cannot afford diapers, then this is a good method.

Start when they wake up dry and make it a game without stress, repeating after meals which you will see a pattern. I beg people to not try this.At least try to read up on it first. I would not encourage potty training before 2 years old and I don’t know many experts who do. In early childhood education we are taught the most important thing is for a baby to learn autonomy and play. Potty training will come when they ready. It makes no sense to force a child under 2 to hold his penis and pee properly when he has more important things to learn at that age.

I love how EC respects the baby by saying they are capable of things as long as adults provide a safe means for them to try. I’ve never studied up on Montessori training in my time as a babysitter or nanny, but I like my independence so it’s always part of how I teach children. I mostly care for babies and toddlers and sometimes pre-schoolers. My mindset is always give them a chance to try something, let them learn from their experiences, and provide a safe space. I’m always amazed by what children can accomplish when we trust them.

See thats the thing. It isn't just training baby..its training mom and dad too. The infant can't get to a potty alone and you have to have a very open schedule and not a need for outside child care to do this(trust me that daycare is not keeping up with your child's potty schedule when they are too young to walk to a potty alone and have to be held over it and communicated to in order to go). It's a commitment most families don't have the luxury of doing now a days in 2 income families. More power to those who have the time and ability tho. 👍

I think my mom didn't believe me until she came to visit and saw for herself. I've done this with all 3 of my kiddos starting at a week or two old and it never fails to bring a smile to my face when I put them on the potty and they actually go. I don't know why I still find it so crazy that it works! :)

Follow-up question, what do you do while out and about? And does she give you official cues?

I guess by doing this, the baby will be trained not to use the diaper. Then might make those noises that she was taught in the beginning (during the training) to indicate that she has to use the toilet

Oh my goodness your daughter is absolutely precious! EC is SO AWESOME! I never heard about this when my children were babies but, WOW that would have saved us TONS of money! I think EC is such an amazing thing to do with your babies. I have 3 very young grandchildren now & 1 on the way. I'm sharing this with my children. At least it could save them some money not to mention it could help them get all their children potty trained at such a young age. Thank you so much for sharing! I certainly appreciate it & my grown children may also appreciate this info as well. When you said that y'all didn't start trying EC until after the first 6 weeks... boy oh boy do I ever remember those days. I also had to take care of my 2nd grandchild the first 4 to 6 weeks of his life because my daughter almost bled to death from a 2 degree tare after delivering him and had to recover from that so the exhaustion alone from just feeding a newborn every 1.5 to 2 hours is enough to deal with the first month to two months of their lives. I couldn't imagine starting the EC right after the baby is born. Still... thank you again for sharing! May the Lord God Almighty bless you and your beautiful family in Jesus name. Shalom!

we started ec when our child was 2 weeks old. it was an amazing experience. its a shame that no one i know ever seems interested in learning abut it or trying it out. makes life so much easier and the child so much smarter.

That's how my Mom trained me, too! I was trying to find out what the potty thing is called (top hat) so thanks for that

My mom did this with me. I couldn’t walk or crawl but I was potty trained. I didn’t pee during the night and I peed the same time everyday. Every time she put me on the toilet after I learned I used the bathroom there from then on. I was trained before 6 months. Can’t remember exactly the month. I just know I wasn’t sitting up on my own by the time I was trained.

I am a Tutu and I have no idea why this popped up but I watched and I am so proud of you! The time and patience it took! My son is probably a bit older than you but I did use cloth diapers for him. Then I got lazy for my second son and use disposable. First time hearing about this.

I will definitely be doing this. Empowerment for babies, no one should ever have to sit in their own waste. Humans have to use the bathroom shortly after eating. It’s so simple! Really glad I found this video. 💕

Last year I had an 8 week puppy and this reminds me of house training haha. We just took her out 15-20 mins after every meal, and I would say "go potty!" and lots of praise after she went. She was housebroken in about 3 weeks? Some unexpected parallels between puppies and babies 😆

You are building a habit, even if the baby or the puppy are very small and have low capacity to understand or speak.
