From Ecuador to Uganda, China’s surveillance technology has gone global.
In this episode of System Error, we examine how these new tools have made spying easier for both dictatorships and democracies.

@High Level there's this lovely place called a mental home and I think you should check yourself in for a permanent vacation stay. Gracias.
When you going to do a video on the US NSA surveillance state that literally monitors every person in the US and most peoples around the world?? Or you just going to keep pushing more anti China war propaganda?
The footage in the first few seconds of this video is not actually from Xinjiang. I've seen this debunked claim on reddit and stuff but I'm surprised to see it on a news site that takes itself seriously. Could you correct this?
@@farzanamughal5933 where's the footage from?
@@farzanamughal5933 it's all propaganda! It's not even believable but yet people do. These claims have been debunked but people just believe it because it comes from these "reliable sources".
“Arguing that you don't care about the right to privacy because you have nothing to hide is no different than saying you don't care about free speech because you have nothing to say.” -Snowden
Brilliant 👏
If you have nothing to say, your not human because your brain neither wants or needs, or desires.
This stuff can be used for good only problem is most people are not good, especially ones with power.
I think if ur home remains your sanctuary then anything else is like this then I think it's fine for example in Australia u are allowed to be racist in the privacy of your home but u cant in public. Alot of crimes have been discovered and perpetrators arrested, an interesting example in the UK a man was found to be stabbing cats and was caught on camera a horrible crime in itself what if it had escalated and he decided it was time to kill people? the biggest issue in my experience is the huge amounts of data that has to be crawled through by an analyst so its reactive rather than proactive in terms of finding criminal activity. The con would be is the government uses it against you or trys to discredit you and that happens a lot in any government form. The question is does the good outweigh the bad? I think it does to a degree.
@@cengizali5361 yea and various Chinese empires have controlled Mancu, Tibet, Xinjiang, Mongolia, Vietnam over the years. Just because they controlled a bit of land for a bit of time, doesn’t mean that it’s theirs. If that was the case, then Hong Kong will still be British

Everyone is about 15 years too late.
If the public knows about all this, imagine how far they’ve actually gone.
Yep. Funny enough I was explaining this to my classmates when I was 14. I'm really dumb in many aspects but that was something I understood really well early on. It came from my way of thinking about the world where I wonder why things are how they are and why things are where they are. I'd look at surveillance cameras and wonder who was on the other side looking at me. I was in my freshman year of highschool at the time. The early web was really cool because the only incentive people had to put information on there was be nerdy and share it. So.. I could trust a lot of things about the world. I knew 2008 was coming in 2006. That was a really bizarre experience. I of course knew all about the NSA. I remember the very day 9/11 happened. What did except all this would come to?
I was based in the UAE around 2010 and filmed many closed-door meetings for HUAWEI during that time. It was all about future (which is now) government-level surveillance technologies. There were often delegates from the Middle East and African countries attending those meetings. They were demonstrating technologies like VPN tracing, face recognition, biometric data analysis. I had to stop working with them after realizing what was all that about. It's chilling to see many of those have become reality now.

Canada has been doing in its airports. And it has admitted it.
Let’s just say, “we the people” can stop their plans no matter how much the “we the people” tries, especially they👁know how the brain works and how to manipulate by indoctrination and brainwashing and us e the “we the people” against each other, perfect example BLM and Antifa and everything are right under “we the people” noses but still the “we the people” refuse to believe and ignore the truth.
Social media in itself has evolved into nothing more than a monitoring / surveillance system.
My only question: is it more lucrative as an advertising platform, or a blackmail tool that is capable of compromising any politician?
Agreed, the fact that we are being pushed personalized contents anywhere we look IS an evidence that we are already being surveilled.
Anyone capable of fetching those data can easily gain even more personal information about us........
Right… The ones who designed it weren’t sitting there thinking, how can Google or search engines serve the people… The whole time it was designed to serve them, do you get it now… It was done in reverse under your nose intentionally
Both are evil in my opinion. The steeping stone to social media being used to spread propaganda was Yelp. Companies started paying for fake reviews. It wasn't long before they figured out they could do alot more. It's actually pretty scary. We need some type of data collection laws asap.
They do far more than this China we shouldn't allow them anything they don't allow us.
Like buying property.
Social media has done more harm than good (although the good is substantial as well)
My bosses at my work record all of their employees conversations and activities during all hours. They use this to discipline their employees and find out if people are sharing discontented views on the place I work for. I've seen my coworkers reprimanded for precieved issues that they have been recorded doing and saying when no managers are in the building. One of my coworkers who works with children was reprimanded for not doing her job when in actuality she was just not in view of the cameras when she took the children outside for activities which is a completely normal thing for her to do in her job. Theres a certain Orwellian feeling everytime I enter work even when I am not on the clock. Furthermore, the utter incompetence of the people using the cameras to spy on their employees is very concerning. The truth of the matter is that a lot of the employees are disgruntled with their employers and share those opinions when taking breaks and this has been my experience with every job I've ever had. The difference is is that they are listening. Its oppressive and should be illegal. They are not the government but it is still a violation of our right to free speech. "Oh you dont like it , quit."? Well, most of us need our jobs and are barely hanging on as it is and have no other options as we live in a small town. If you read this and support what I'm saying give a like and tell me how I can get this to stop. I'm thinking full staff walkout in full view of the surveillance equipment.

@@wafflegirl1863 yep, And he also needs to .... UNIONISE!!!!!
If only we could unionize.. most of the people who work there are just out of high school and college And those that aren't like myself are too afraid to lose their jobs to take action. The history of making complaints at my work is that if you step up you get manipulated in to thinking you're in the wrong, ignored, or treated poorly for challenging authority. I've even been talked to rudely and treated like a truant child for having to take a sick day due to a serious medical condition I have been battling with for years. This was followed by workplace gossip started by my own boss to make me look disingenuous. Furthermore, my coworker has repeatedly been told that her job is "not really that important" and that they are "really doing you a favor" by letting her keep her position. She goes around every day at work at her wits end hoping that they do not decide to fire her. I've told her that they were probably just trying to mess with her head but she is young and doesnt understand how manipulative employers can be to their employees. They do all this and watch our every move making it any extremely oppressive place to work where everyone fears that they will lose their jobs or have their private lives and conversations become public knowledge. I have talked to my boss about my medical condition only to find out the next day the WHOLE STAFF knew every detail of that very private conversation that was made clear to the listener that is was VERY PRIVATE. I'm scared that if my medical condition prevents me from working I will be fired or have my reputation ruined as it is (as I have sai d) a small town and most everyone knows each other.
My previous employers had security cameras all over the office, including several in the break area covering all angles that even made it possible to zoom in on an employees phone screen if they were on break. I would entirely leave the property to make any personal phone calls. They would watch the video feed obsessively to the point they would call the office when they were out of the country to complain about something they saw when in reality they often had no true reason for concern.

especially if it's made by a country full of lies, who can easily hack you since they knew how those systems were build amd their weaknesses.

“If you have to be persuaded, reminded, pressured, lied to, incentivized, coerced, bullied, socially shamed, guilt-tripped, threatened, punished and criminalized ... If all of this is considered necessary to gain your compliance -- you can be absolutely certain that what is being promoted is not in your best interest.”

We should send the Canadian Truckers.
The right to privacy should be a global human right. This should limit surveillance and tracking online and in person by governments and private orgs.
Nsa is already doing this. The only thing they don’t have is a large camera network that blankets all cities and towns that they can tap into.
I mean as bad as it is, at least China isn't hiding it (or at least doing a good job). I am actually more worried about what personal data large private corporations like Facebook and Google have collected on individuals around the world. There is a clear incentive for private companies to do so illegally and discretely because it allows them to financially and politically control not just their own country but, people around the world.
The difference is, in China, people get arrested, they disappear, and its used to commit genocide. Its affects where you live and work through "social credit system". Did you even watch the video?
@@tubester4567 The similarity is, in both the US and China, people get arrested, the US can make anyone disappear without the need of justification, even well concealed foreign figures like General Suleimani won't stand a chance and the intelligence is also used to commit genocide on foreign countries like during Vietnam war (my Lai massacre) and the modern middle East. The very privileged foundation you are standing on is built off of genocide of innocent indigenous people and people around the world. Did you even study American history?
@@tubester4567 i wonder how you know they disapear? you personally see that or you part of the system?
@@tubester4567 United States has the biggest prison system ever in existence... The American credit system also prevents people from ever being able to purchase a car or home. The hidden reality of actual terrorism in China is not really weighed, in China there are what could be deemed as necessary steps some possibly overstepping but bombings and knife attacks seem to be driving many of these actions, the actions on the part of the people could be linked to poverty and or religious beliefs, not experiencing life in China ourselves means for most people full understanding can never be found.

The simplest way to convince people and governments to reject the spread of mass surveillance tools, is to propose better solutions to real problems that only mass surveillance can currently solve. Complaints without serious proposals of alternatives are just little kids whining.
You're literally a shill. The solution is personal responsibility.
@@sa-amirel-hayeed699 Sadly personal responsibility doesn't work for all these problems. It has been tried for centuries, and look where it got us.
@@sa-amirel-hayeed699 I mean, think about it for a second, if personal responsibility was the solution, then personal responsibility would remove mass surveillance, but in reality, personal responsibility as a solution is so small and naive, than it won't and can't solve mass surveillance.

Love China's surveillance capabilities. Humans need to be monitored!
I live is London, UK and because of lack of monitoring and punishment people treat public space like a trash. They dump trash in the ally ways, trash on the bus, damage bus and train seats by putting their shoes on it etc
Now imagine if we track these people who dump trash and spoil the streets are tracked and issued with 100 hours of cleaning service for their disrespectful behaviour to the public. People will think twice about litter and the councils save money on hiring cleaners.
We need more surveillance!
That’s called not having privacy.

The ultimate failure of neo-liberalism. We thought that capitalism always leads to democracy. We saw China liberalizing its market and decided to let it into the WTO and outsourced to it because not only was it cheaper, but we thought it would democratize it. We were wrong. I would like to take this time to say that Nixon was right overall to normalize relations during the Cold War to defeat the Soviet Union, but that's about it regarding China.
