I am the son of a former full-time evangelist who never charged for preaching. I have seen God bless him in ways that are incredible. He once preached an entire week's revival and received $25.00. However, his wife and four children (all boys) never went hungry, lights stayed on, never got evicted, none of that. He said God told him that if he took care of His business, then God would take care of us. I am living proof that God kept his promise. Those preachers who think this is a lucrative business better beware. A great fall is coming.

Infact, a hurricane is coming. I and my wife once hosted a crusade in an economically-deprived village. Bought packaged food and packaged lots of used clothes still in order. Then we reached out to preachers to help us be the vehicle of God's Word to that community. Well, first guy said unless he was paid XYZ amount, he was not going to preach. Since when did God run out of preachers? Anyway, another preacher opted to do it for free, later telling us God showed him that the kind of open doors coming was something beyond our imagination. Of course, God showed up big time in our lives.

@@tc3354 I think hotel and airfare and food are acceptable, especially if traveling away from home. If the church doesn't want to pay that, find someone local.
But the honorariums may be ridiculous. So high that multiple offerings need to be held to cover the visiting church or preacher, and let the begging begin...
We don't need all of that energy.
But most importantly, follow God's direction and follow him. In all things.

I agree that no pastors should be paid the huge fees to preach the word, but a free will offering is good. Being in the ministry is profitable and lucrative, and many pastors are in it for the money and not for the calling. Many pastors live the lifestyle of the rich and famous while many in the church are struggling financially. We got to do better in the body of Christ.

I asked a preacher to come and preach a Friday night service at my church, and his secretary told me I had to give him $5000 to show up, pay his flight, the flight of 3 of his assistants, cover their hotel and ground transportation fees. If I had done all of that I could have easily spent $10,000 for a Friday night service that would probably have generated $2000. WHY DO THOSE PEOPLE think we owe them so much because they have some Gospel awards? I just wanted him to preach a Friday night service. I let the matter alone and kept moving...others may spend that kind of money but I won't. In 44 years of preaching, I have never charged a dime... If you get me there, get me back, and feed me, and don't leave me outdoors in the rain, I'll come and preach for you...because that's what the old preachers would have done.

Let me say this right now. God is preparing me for some things and I couldn’t figure out for the longest what I was supposed to see in this season. But just this morning by looking at God’s provision and the timeliness of it I began talking to God and noticing how God truly does know not only what we need but when we need it. I resolved in myself that this season is about learning to trust God for provision and trusting that if I don’t have it at this moment that when I need it God will provide it. Now going into this season God said to me, I will take care of you. But there was a disconnect for me because of being anxious about everything that I was facing, I had forgotten. I thank God for a tough season and that he allows me to stay in long enough so that I can see that he’s just showing me that he’ll do what he said as a father who provides for his kid. This sermon is absolutely right. Timothy tells us this also

@@blackbox1911 It costs WAY MORE to learn how to preach the word of God correctly than to learn how to play a musical instrument. if it were easy and truly "free", then everyone could preach to themselves. Matthew 10 refers to the DISCIPLESHIP TRAINING process. Once a person is trained to be a minister of Christ, they absolutely deserve to be PAID WELL for preaching, teaching, delivering, etc. Just like every other SKILL.
The Cost of Being a Disciple (Luke 14)
25A large crowd was following Jesus. He turned around and said to them, 26“If you want to be my disciple, you must, by comparison, hate everyone else-your father and mother, wife and children, brothers and sisters-yes, even your own life. Otherwise, you cannot be my disciple. 27And if you do not carry your own cross and follow me, you cannot be my disciple.
28 “But don’t begin until you count the cost. For who would begin construction of a building without first calculating the cost to see if there is enough money to finish it? 29Otherwise, you might complete only the foundation before running out of money, and then everyone would laugh at you. 30They would say, ‘There’s the person who started that building and couldn’t afford to finish it!’
31 “Or what king would go to war against another king without first sitting down with his counselors to discuss whether his army of 10,000 could defeat the 20,000 soldiers marching against him? 32And if he can’t, he will send a delegation to discuss terms of peace while the enemy is still far away. 33So you cannot become my disciple without giving up everything you own.
34 “Salt is good for seasoning. But if it loses its flavor, how do you make it salty again? 35Flavorless salt is good neither for the soil nor for the manure pile. It is thrown away. Anyone with ears to hear should listen and understand!”
Paul: Those who are taught the word of God should provide for their teachers, sharing all good things with them. (Galatians 6:6)
Elders who do their work well should be respected and paid well, especially those who work hard at both preaching and teaching. (1 Timothy 5:17)

Thanks so much. I have heard that today some preachers deamand you sign a contract, guaranteeing their offering before they come. We should have rejected the "contract" years ago. Instead, some agreed to sign a contract plus make a deal for the famous "seed" offering at the end of the service where they fleece the congregation and split the proceeds. Amazing how many pastors have participated and prospered with this practice. Shows they have no faith.

    • @d.a.5912
      @d.a.5912 28 дней назад

If you read the Word, "seed" had nothing to do with money. (Doctrine of men). It was about the Word of God. People get fleeced because they don't know the Word of God for themselves. Paul asked for money once, but it was not for himself. He was admonishing the people to send money to people in Jerusalem who were in need. He himself did not take 'offerings' because he didn't want to give people the wrong impression given his stance on taking money. He was supported by one church that felt it was their purpose to do so although he did not ask nor request. He did not receive "offerings, seed or otherwise" everywhere he went. Preachers ask for lots of money because they build these gigantic houses for God. God only had one temple built where he wanted to interact with the people and Solomon built it. Old testament. He told preachers preachers to "go into all the world and preach the Gospel", not build some gigantic edifice and sit in it. God doesn't need a house because the the people are the temple in this dispensation. New testament. People should read and learn the Word of God so you know the difference between what God has said and what ministers of the gospel say. There's an old saying, "... eat the fish and spit out the bones".

Those are gifts and talents, but contrary to popular belief, they are NOT ministry. Music is definitely referenced throughout the bible, but if you look up the occasions music was encouraged, nowhere was it used for the ministry of the Great Commission. Music has it's place but it does not save. Only the preaching of the Gospel saves. Anyone can sing along with a song, but only Believers can worship! The only thing ministers were commanded to do was preach the gospel because it's by the preaching of the Gospel that men are saved. Read about the 5-fold ministry. This is what was ordained by God to get his word out to the people. And they didn't have bibles. They didn't have churches like we have today. Ask yourself why is it that we have so many "denominations"?

But I don’t think Winans is saying a minister should/must not accept what is given, etc (certainly that’s not what that text is saying); he’s saying charging people a certain amount, etc. It is biblical, and just plane right, to share in a financial way with someone sharing God’s Word..unless the church can’t afford to, and that should be shared when inviting them..we can’t pay you. A preacher worth their weight should still go if they can afford the expenses. But having that conversation with someone inviting you to preach God’s Word as if this is a business transaction, is so distasteful and ungodly. I am sure I will never like that. Smh

13  Don’t you know that those who serve in the temple get their food from the temple, and that those who serve at the altar share in what is offered on the altar?
14  In the same way, the Lord has commanded that those who preach the gospel should receive their living from the gospel.
    1 Corinthians 9:13-14
    ***********
I have a lot of preachers in my family. I have friends that are ministers or are married to ministers. Based on what they've told me this topic is a problem
    1. If the preacher is greedy or
    2. If the host church gets shady about the agreed upon honorarium. You might be surprised at how some churches deceive preachers and singers and rip them off.
No one should be charging ridiculous amounts to preach. But imagine getting invited to preach long distance 3 times in one month. If you're preaching for free does that mean that you're paying for 3 roundtrip flights? What about hotel stays and food? What if you turned down extra shifts at your regular job to preach for free? Most people would quickly go broke doing that.
"There is no such thing as a free lunch" applies to this situation. The only person who gets anything for free is the person receiving the free lunch. Someone had to buy the ingredients . Someone was paid to prepare and serve the lunch. If the lunches are delivered someone paid for the vehicle, insurance and gas. They also paid someone to transport the lunches.
Yes we trust the Lord. But we still need to do right by people and stop acting crazy when it comes to church and money. A little common sense goes a long way.

The Word of God says this in 1 Timothy 5:18, “A workman is worthy of his hire.”
It tells us that individuals who submit their ‘gifts’ for the work of the ministry should be compensated (blessed, honored, paid) appropriately for their efforts.
I have a problem with those who send ‘Riders’ (which is the contract or agreement Bishop was trying to remember…).
But I realize that the Riders were put in place because oftentimes individuals were not honored (or compensated) - so a mechanism had to be put in place to address the issue.
It is way out of hand at this point!

Interesting segment of what looks like some teaching that he is doing at some kind of Bible study session. In it's purest form Winans is on point. Now I'm about to write something that I'm probably going to get some major pushback on. A lot of these revivalists, evangelists, prophets, singers/psalmists, or whatever other titles folks are giving themselves are pure entertainers. Moreover, a lot of these churches , fellowships or whatever else names we give our churches, bring these high profile people in to draw people for the purpose of making a profit. Consequently, I think is very disingenuous of Winans to convey with a straight face that these people should not require x amount of dollars to perform. I will leave it right there.

It was written for our sake, because the plowman should plow in hope and the thresher thresh in hope of sharing in the crop. 11 If we have sown spiritual things among you, is it too much if we reap material things from you? 12 If others share this rightful claim on you, do not we even more?
Nevertheless, we have not made use of this right, but we endure anything rather than put an obstacle in the way of the gospel of Christ. 13 Do you not know that those who are employed in the temple service get their food from the temple, and those who serve at the altar share in the sacrificial offerings? 14 In the same way, the Lord commanded that those who proclaim the gospel should get their living by the gospel

I strongly and respectfully disagree. There is a difference between a natural vocation and a high calling from God. I do have a natural vocation and yes there was a charge for my schooling. I also attended religious schooling that cost as well but that in itself was a choice that had no bearing of influence in anyone's calling as far as God is concerned.
Attending Bible College is good but should never be perceived or understood as a necessity to one's call. Of course to offer one's service for these natural vocations there is a charge and should be ( Doctor , Lawyer)need to earn a living. However, I believe we can agree that God has created a system in his church to provide for his ministers in which the charging of a fee has never been allocated. My house shall be called a House of prayer.
How income is generated between an earthly vocation and a heavenly calling, I believe, should not be in the same conversation. Freely receive freely give. God never blessed anyone with some prophetic gifts to go around charging people to make money even though it seems as if this is the case with many citing that if a Doctor or Lawyer charges a fee then they should be able to as well.
To be a Preacher of the Gospel is a High Calling from God and I do agree that as the body of Christ just as we have received of the gift freely we are also in-debted to God to be a tremendous blessing to these Ministers of the Gospel even more so.
And with that said 🤔I also believe that there should be a limitless cap on what such a minister is given freely. Reason. Some people speak against preachers charging a fee and support the notion that the congregation should have an opportunity to give freely. Fine🙄 but however, what happens when it's a large congregation and Bill Gates and Elon musk and all those guys are in the congregation and is digging very deep to be a blessing to the preacher 😂🤣….. are we still going to hold on to the freely received doctrine and allow the visiting preacher to leave with possible million's that were freely given? 👏😂
The Bible teaches that a Workman is worthy of his labor.
So therefore on a personal note I believe that at the end of the day a true Minister of the Gospel should never have to worry or be distracted from their God ordained mission because they lack fund's in today's world.
I believe that the calling of a Preacher to represent Jesus Christ is a more prestigious and delicately responsible job in the world today even more so than any doctor lawyer or President. Therefore, how we handle them in the Body of Christ should financially reflect that and in my sincere opinion should be far greater than any fees charged.
      ✝️🙇🙏💯
