    Joshua thanks for the video. Just a word of caution if you aren’t aware already, laser engraving (along with other thermal processes) on stainless steel will produce toxic hexavalent chromium fumes and dust so it’s definitely something anyone doing this needs to be aware of and be informed of the risks

    You, my friend, gave me an excellent idea. I have etched a lot of glass and always have used black tempra paint. I spray it on using an airbrush which is very time consuming. The carbon from the candle looks like it would be a much faster way to do it and the cleanup would be just as easy as with the tempra paint. Beyond excellent video!

      @@joshuadelisle I finally got to try the candle carbon trick on glass today. It worked fine. Also I tried it on aluminum. It does work but I had to rub over the area I engraved with a magic marker and then clean the excess off with acetone so you can see the engraving. The good part about that is I suppose you can use any colour of magic marker you want. Now all my ss rulers have my logo engraved on them. Thanks again for the tip. It was a good one. I passed it on to Ed at URHC. I have a feeling you will be seeing it in his next video. Take care my friend.

    Really cool. I love the part where you, not only made a balcony for your daughters doll house but gave them specific detailed instructions for the right way to paint it.. I believe that to be of the upmost importance in how we all teach our children. Great job man, I'll keep watching if you keep making. P.s. I still want to see how you actually come up with the order of operations to make something like the stag bookends. And how about a video that goes over the order of operations to make various different things in forging . Kind of like your penny end scroll tutorial. I'd really love to understand how to forge letters and numbers and perhaps one day how to make a small gate with scrolls and other various fundamentals. I really love how the UK is so geared toward having a unique forged "wrought" ironwork gate etc. That is such a status symbol. Or so it would appear. Rather than a car or something. Of course they are on some massive , beautiful Manor but it's damn cool. BTW your videos are progressing without a doubt so that's something you should be proud of and hopefully motivated and able to persist into the future. Still can't wait to see your channel explode.. like I've said . I'm rooting for you and your family and your success. Forge that life.. just make sure .... its worth living. THANK YOU

Only reason I haven't is because no one has ordered anything forged and I find most people only have a budget for minimal fabrication or want it fast and laser cut. I'll need to do some marketing and probably will just forge some products and put on display somewhere that has wealth. Forging my horse sculptures again will be a tutorial that you'll like. I've loved tech solutions for about 40 years. I've wired up my own simple electronics, built PC's and generally tried to use tech to help my life along, but I must be getting old and tetchy because I look at a project like this and say, no, I'm not trying that. Don't get me wrong, I'm not dissing Joshua, I think his mastery of engineering and tech is amazing, but It's all left me behind. I can't keep up with modern tech anymore and feel old and old fashioned. Soon I'll be saying things like 'In my day' or 'It was all just fields' or even 'Eh, whut?' Great video, very informative, but I think I've reached my peak and will just stick with simple power tools and suck up my shame at not being able to move forward 😞 (Still going to keep watching even if I don't fully understand the fancy tech gubbins though)

    • @joshuadelisle
      @joshuadelisle  2 года назад +1

      Please know that I prefer simple no cost solutions generally. I know I'm dabbling in tech just now but I assure you it won't be something I'm dependent on. These companies are letting me test their equipment and. Getting a chance to learn complex new technology and hopefully will be able to break it down into simple language that anyone can understand. I've got my old forge sculpture work coming again later. You'll enjoy that I hope. Cheers J

    • @Moondog-wc4vm
      @Moondog-wc4vm 2 года назад +1

      @@joshuadelisle I totally get the low cost solution thing. I really enjoy your videos and the way you make them accessible to those of us less knowledgable so we can build on your explanation. I'm simply admitting defeat, because even when you break it down, I still couldn't follow the whole process. I would love to be able to afford CNC tools, but can't. Failing that I would love to be able to build my own as I always built my own solutions in the past. I look at this video and admire the knowledge and determination that makes it work, but admit that I couldn't do that, even with the help of someone willing to do the experimentation and then explain it bit by bit. I'll just use older technologies that I understand and be happy with that. I'll still watch videos of people using the latest tech though, I might not be able to replicate it, but I enjoy seeing how it's done.

    That is to mount a 2d Printer head onto the CNC Frame (perhaps an Epson DX5 as these are frequently sold as a seperate item) to do wider/longer.. colour printing.. Ideally on
    hard boards that could not be fed through a regular printer. The software match is the bit I can't get my soft little brain around..
    So, Perhaps UV.. but not crucial..
    There are large flat format machines available, but very pricey £10k+

    Hey nice vid. I was ordering a muffler and they were going to laser engrave it for me with my logo. I was wanting a more bronze look instead of very black like what your machine made. Is this dependent on the source material I provide or the machine and the way they do it? Was wondering if I need to provide them a brown color logo vs my standard black one or does it matter?

    • @joshuadelisle
      @joshuadelisle  Год назад

      For the color you can change the speed and power to create different hues. The very best method I've seen is on titanium using a heat resistant mask that is lasered off and heated to create temper colours. The masked areas are protected from oxidation and remain silver until removed and then in use the whole exhaust turns a vivid purple and the lettering goes a blue and straw color.

    • @joshuadelisle

      It doesn't engrave in the same way it would engrave wood. It only marks the steel which is an oxidizing effect. So only black however an infra red laser can get different colours through a tempering effect. Cheers J
