  • This week I built the Ortur Laser Pro 2 S2 Laser. Along with the laser I also built the Ortur Rotary attachment. In the video I will run you through the set up of the Ortur Roller attachment in detail. The setup includes running through the steps in Lightburn. Connecting the laser, Connecting the Rotary attachment and completing a test print.

    I stumbled onto your channel after buying the Sculpfun S9- I’m waiting for the rotary tool to arrive, but then I saw this video on engraving a bottle, which I’m waiting to do, and thought I’d watch. I just wanted to say thank you for your super down to earth and thoughtful explanations! No BS, a heck of a lot of candidness, and pearls of wisdom from one maker to another. I really appreciated how you shared about pitfalls and didn’t edit out the part where you lasered the logo on backwards - something I’m sure many of us will do as well! All of that was more than enough to convince me to hit like and subscribe. Cheers!

    How would you do a mug with a handle? Such a great explanation thank you.

    • @SmallFryCreations
      @SmallFryCreations  2 года назад

      Generally speaking you would need a different type of Rotary where the mug attached from inside the mug. This type of rotary is not really built for it. You could laser on the opposite side of the handle and as long as you didn’t need to rotate to much the handle would stay between the rollers.

    Thank you so much for this video! Do you have a tip on what to do if the test line is not straight and is squiggly but the mm per rotation is good? it completes a full rectangle but the lines are a bit squiggly

    • @SmallFryCreations
      @SmallFryCreations  2 года назад

      Thank you. My only suggestion would be to see if the piece is hard up againist the support piece that when it rotates does it move away from the back plate. It may be "walking" along the rollers. If so then it comes down to balancing the work piece the best you can. I find taking any lids off the bottles helps. My only other thought is the speed. I have used up to 1000mm/min as the speed and haven't had any issues. Hope this helps.

    Thanks for the info. How did you calculate your mm per rotation input for lightburn?

    • @SmallFryCreations
      @SmallFryCreations  2 года назад

      I started at 60mm ran a test and then adjusted from there. In the video description there is link to a video I followed. I use blue painters tape and wrap the bottle. Turn the power down to 20% and draw a thin rectangle. If the rectangle meets your good to go. If there is a gap up the number and if they cross over lower the number and ran again until you get it close. Then your good to go. Hope this helps 😀 I ran this test each different type of bottle to dial in the settings.

      Hey When I was asked to review the Ortur the Sculpfun didn't have a rotary attachment which it now does. I was keen to test and learn the rotary to see if I liked it hence the Ortur. I think the sculpfun is a fantastic laser and for a beginner it would be my recommendation.

      @@SmallFryCreations Awesome - thank you. I make a lot of cutting boards, cheese boards etc. and sell them through local wineries. I plan on using the laser engraver to cut the winery logo into the board and then back fill the logo with epoxy resin. Therefor the deeper cutting depth of the S9 appeals to me.

      Ooo great idea. I don’t know how a laser would go with going deep for resin without burning like crazy. You can definitely engrave and it’s awesome at it and can cut through but the edge is black from the burning. • @SmallFryCreations

      @@jamiehamilton1340 Hey The ortur is a good machine but I perfer personally the Sculpfun. I have the S10 Sculpfun due to to arrive with me in the next couple of days and I will start testing and putting a video together about it. I have had issue with the Ortur that when you go to start sometimes it moves to the start position and the laser comes on to start burning but then the laser doesn't move. I then have to stop it bring it back to home and start again. The sculpfun doesn't have limit switches which is a down side but the New Sculpfun S10 has a spot to install limit switches so that downside might be sorted. Overall I think the Sculpfun is a better laser in the ease of putting together and using. Hope this helps. Any other questions let me know and I will try my best to help.

      Hey Sorry catching up on comments now. The first thing I would be checking is run a small rectangle around the bottle to see they are meeting so you know the measurements you have input into the rotary settings are right. The next thing I would check is the the laser is focused to the correct height. If all this fails I would be sure to join the Ortur Facebook group and you can post pictures and videos in there explaining what your doing and they would be able to assist with a solution.
