Finding Movement Points: by Systema with Mark J

  • A simple Systema drill to help folks learn how to find the 6 points of movement, or places to initiate movement from in your attacker without looking. This drill can be useful for any martial art, Aikido, BJJ, MMA, etc., as it provides a method to build awareness, from the slightest touch, of the opponents points of movement when grappling, striking, or evading.

      Thanks Bartek. Hoping it helps, but it takes a lot of work. Did a similar drill many times when I was in Russia with a knife. The guys were so patient with their study and really focused on how everything felt. All, outstanding fighters, and they did this training so slow and thoughtful. Then they would go off to the side and 'go live' to see what needed more work. Followed by more slow, feeling work to improve and drill it in so thought wasn't needed. I still think about this 17 years later and try to incorporate those training concepts.

      Thank you. From time to time I get asked 'How do I you know where your opponents feet, knees, etc., are at without looking.' This simple drill is a good place to start to build that skill. It is also good for understanding the angle of a knife on the body.

      @@MarkJakabcsin1 I see... So this drill should help you connect with the opponent's body and get you used to feeling his position. So again, breath work and connecting with your own body movement can help here as well. Am I right?

      Thanks Mal, always good to hear from you. Hoping we can put the beard, fist cushion concept to the test soon. Although, I don't always have a beard. I shave about once a week or so and start over.
