I am not physicist but I was majoring in it soooo. Basically what you see (the visible part of the lightning, spark) isn't electricity itself but rather the overheated plasma of all compounds in air, oxygen, nitrogen, and most importantly arton which is the gas that fills the old-type bulbs. You see, if the electricity current is strong enough it discharge. Because air has very high electricity resistance, any flow of electricity heats it up to 30k degree Celsius. The electrons themselves are flowing extremely fast, so you won't be able to see it regardless, but what you CAN see, hear, smell is the overheated mixture of everything in air. Also because air is so overheated, it expands in explosive rate thus the sound of thunder. The electricity can also cause chemical reactions which can convert breathable oxygen O2, into ozone O3, thus the specific pleasant scent moments after the lightning. And of course the light too, such amounts of electricity and heat causes the Argon (Ar) to turn into hyperactive state and start illuminating. So the dissipating effect is most likely the hyperactive Argon molecules dissipating in air and 'calming down'.

I am not physicist but I was majoring in it soooo. Basically what you see (the visible part of the lightning, spark) isn't electricity itself but rather the overheated plasma of all compounds in air, oxygen, nitrogen, and most importantly arton which is the gas that fills the old-type bulbs.
You see, if the electricity current is strong enough it discharge. Because air has very high electricity resistance, any flow of electricity heats it up to 30k degree Celsius. The electrons themselves are flowing extremely fast, so you won't be able to see it regardless, but what you CAN see, hear, smell is the overheated mixture of everything in air.
Also because air is so overheated, it expands in explosive rate thus the sound of thunder. The electricity can also cause chemical reactions which can convert breathable oxygen O2, into ozone O3, thus the specific pleasant scent moments after the lightning. And of course the light too, such amounts of electricity and heat causes the Argon (Ar) to turn into hyperactive state and start illuminating. So the dissipating effect is most likely the hyperactive Argon molecules dissipating in air and 'calming down'.
