Great video. I liked it a lot. When's your next Star Wars video. Or will you do a Star Trek video. If not those. Then why don't you do the era's of an earlier Final Fantasy game.
This video led me down a rabbit hole that opened my eyes on Lalafells. Since Sil'Dih is not a city you can "normally" visit I began to suspect foul play. What I discovered was the most heinous of war crimes the little people ever perpetuated on themselves...
You know, for a people that has spent so much time shunning the knowledge they thought caused the previous Umbral Calamity before their Astral Era, they got to keep a lot of it in use to the modern era.
hm, yes and no. Our jobs of todays are a far cry from their origin's and power. Gotta remember white mages of Old stood toe to toe with Black mages. Black Mages of old were basically unbeatable until the rise of white magic. the WoL is basically unlocking and learning arts that they used to exist in the old ages.
Not quite. Many of the professions in the present era are watered down versions of the old ones, ie. black magic becoming thaumaturgy, and the only reason why the Warrior of Light is able to obtain so much ancient knowledge is because they keep stumbling into so many soul crystals that basically lets them speedrun their training.
@@sixthcairncorrect, in fact until recently Black Magic was entirely outlawed (thaumatury being a regulated codified verson which was considered potent enough to serve as a weapon without the practitioner being a threat to themselves or the world) this edict was in effect for the majority of the storyline and the Warrior of Light kept their use of it on the downlow. The Warrior convinced everyone to lift the ban during the events of the class questline. Same is the case with White Magic, it became heavily regulated, only to be used by Paji, during the course of the White Mage class quests, the Warrior convinced everyone to loosen the regulation. Scholar magic and primal summoning had been lost entirely and you rediscover it in the class quest. All of these questlines tie into the greater story of the game and effectively change dialogue and interactions in both the MSQ and side content with other characters. These limitations are highligted by the fact regular non player adventurers are all classes and do not have access to jobs (with the exception of retainers) with both the ARR duty assist members and command squads being only classes.
@@shiro3146correct. The system which predates the TRUST system which is the scripted single player dungeon content with adventurer or scion (and friends) companions doesn't have these restrictions because it is new lore content, but the OG single player dungeon experience with your Grand Company Squadron consisted of adventurers who are stuck to the class system and do not have access to job abilities, even at level 60, so as you'd imagine, their competency falls off sharply after level 30
So awesome! I’d love to see the same type of video covering the history of the Garleans, their origins, and how those history connects to the different eras mentioned here.
I'm Brazilian, thank you very much for putting subtitles in your video, it helped me watch it Thank you also for the great content, I'm new to the game, I just finished ARR and as I don't understand English very well it was a pleasure watching this video

Oh man, I really hope you guys delve more into some of the other parts of the FFXIV universe, especially the First, the Void, Ultima Thule, and how the Garlean Empire formed. This was an excellent primer for anyone getting into FFXIV and filled in a few gaps I missed from the game's history.
Nicely done on the writing, sir. That aside, ever find the data you were seeking about the blood sands on balmung? It dawned on me much later you were likely meaning the gladiator pit and not the player run rp combat event which is why I took you out to where Gertude the ungood has her fate spawn. Silly me.
One hell of a sponsor ad and segue. Impressive setup. Impressive delivery. Seriously impressive work on this. I'm in love with your channel now. Narration on point. Animations on point. Beautiful delivery.
This is an absolutely incredible video and is basically better than even what Squenix is doing to show this lore. If you showed this video inside of FF14, I would stay there, watch the entire thing, and come out of it with a hundredfold increased appreciation of the lore of the game. I cannot stress just how good this is. The narration, the text, the art style, the pacing, this is so simple, yet so in-depth. I wish every lore video was this easy to listen to! Thank you so, so very much.
I didn't play FF14, it's an MMO. But If your favourite part about Final Fantasy as a series is how it constantly reinvents the wheel and you just love all the references and mythology gags then this video is great.
I have been itching to get more into the lore, even got the second lore book today. This was so well done! Loved the animations. I hope you can dive deeper into other parts of lore within the FFXIV universe.
This is incredible! Great video, i've played around 700h and for sure some of this is mentioned, but it's so scattered, how do you even remember all of this in such a consise manner
I already was invested on the story of the game, after watching this video i'm in love with it. A must watch to every FF XIV player! Congratulations on this incredible content! ❤
I really love this documentary. Hopefully you guys can cover about the history in Othard and the history of Garleans. And some day a spoiler history summary up to Endwalker
I've played this game for a few years now, and while I'm up to date on the MSQ and content, this video was a nice, compact and very easy to follow refresher on the Star's history Thank you for putting it together!
Never realized before how much the Allagan empire shared with the Eldar from WarHammer 40k. Their very downfalls were both brought about for nearly the exact same reasons. Tis pretty dope.
hey at least those old players actually fight in 7th Umbral calamities like they litterally fight there as if they are there and they experienced some part of 6th Astral Era, heck they even had their own storylines than us not to mention they are somewhat mentioned(like that players making a wall with goubue dubbed as Great Gubue wall) and i mean it! they fight not only for Eorzia but also for their PCs and their internet
So for hundreds of thousands of years, life on this planet was demarcated by periods of prosperity/conflict followed by elemental devastation brought about by an unknown source??? But then all of a sudden, the most recent calamity was non elemental, brought about directly by the actions of a civilization, and ended in the blink of an eye???? I guess that's progress but I still don't totally understand why the writers decided to make it that way. Anyway, thank you so much for making this video!!!! Made perfect sense and covered so much ground 👏👏
Nice video, but few corections. Umbral Eras are not only when the Calamities happen, but also aftermaths. Umbral Eras are those of Chaos and healing from said Calamities, and can last hundres of years. The shortest we have as far as is known is Seventh Umbral which started with Bahamuth Rampage, lasted for five years and ended when Three States of Eorzea united into an alliance. But the time lines is basically Calamity -> Umbral Era (The Time of Darkness) -> Astral Era (The Time of Light) -> Calamity -> Umbral Era and so on and on. And it is always during the Umbral Eras when Warriors of Light rise and slowly help to heal the wounded world, thus resulting in Astral Era.

If I read more lore about it, I could, at least now, understand the premise instead of skipping past because it felt like history's lore gibberish to me. I hope you guys do a history lore of Hydaelyn and Zodiark, what led to their summoning, and of the other shard worlds. There's not enough information about it yet, but when there is enough to make the content, I'll be waiting.

A lot of the worse crimes in FFXIV seems to have been committed by Lalafells.
