    Wizards and Warriors animated fantasy documentary lore video series on the world of Middle-Earth - Lord of the Rings continues with the longform video on the First Age, as we talk about the Rise of Morgoth. In this video we discussed the creation of the world of Tolkien, its powers and races and we see how and why the Elves became the enemies of the Dark Lord Melkor, who they called Morgoth, after their leader Fëanor cursed him for killing his father Finwë and stealing his prized possession - Silmarils. We see how the evil first rose in the world of Arda and will talk about Ungoliant and other evils, about the Valar and Maiar, about the Elves and their sub-groups - Vanyar, Ñoldor, Teleri, and Avari. In Middle-Earth, Morgoth attacks the Teleri Elves in Doriath under Thingol and his allies Cirdan and Denethor starting the War of the Jewels with the First Battle of the Beleriand. Meanwhile, in the Valinor, the Noldor Elves of Feanor attack their Teleri relatives in the First Kinslaying in order to take their ships. Afterwards, Feanor and his sons travel to the Middle-Earth in order to fight Morgoth and take the Silmarils, leading to the battles of Dagor-nuin-Giliath and Lammoth and the death of Feanor. We show the aftermath of the death of Feanor, as the Noldor kingdoms rise in the Middle-Earth taking on Morgoth once again, this time at the battle of Dagor Aglareb, where Feanor's sons Fingolfin and Maedhros, and others fought against the Dark Lord and we also talked about the rise of the humans - the House of Edain. We will describe the battle of Dagor Bragollach and the rise of the father of Dragons Glaurung. In the aftermath of the defeat at the hands of Morgoth, the Elves and Men were on the back foot and the evil spread in the Middle-Earth, but from those dark days, an unlikely pair rose to challenge the darkness - Beren and Lúthien and defeated Morgoth. Their tragic love story inspired Maedhros to create his Union, which attacked the Dark Lord during the Nirnaeth Arnoediad - the battle of Unnumbered Tears.

    Morgoth is really interesting. Morgoth was supremely powerful but also supremely petty. He spread his power into all the matter in Arda, The entire Solar system. He cannot be destroyed without destroying the solar system which the Valar are not allowed to do. This lowered his power level tremendously. At Utumno he SHOULD have won but he was already weakened from this. Both he and the valar were shocked at how weak he'd become. At the same time because he corrupted all matter that means physical bodies are all cursed with Morgothness. The conceit is everytime you get sick or fight or are mean to someone that is you giving in to Morgothness of your body. And it is always active trying to ruin your day because Morgoth hates you on a personal level because you exist independently of him. His goal is literally to destroy your life one paper cut and stubbed toe at a time if thats what it takes. It's a running theme, more corrupted by evil you are the less you can actually function.

    • @user-xu6ox2rq4p
      @user-xu6ox2rq4p 5 месяцев назад +4

      This is super interesting part about the metaphysics of the Arda. Morgoth is ridiculously powerful, but he has dispersed his power. Only a tiny fraction of his power is in his body. So Fingolfin who has all of his power in his body can fight him. Balrogs on the other hand seem to concentrate their power to their physical form. So they can drive off Ungoliant while Morgoth cannot.
      Tulkas is likely one of the least important Valar but can still act as a champion. He likely keeps almost all of his power inside his physical avatar and thus it is concentrated.
      Also we have for example Girdle of Melian but there is nothing o indicate that she is actually a superb fighter. Her power seems to be dispersed as well.

      Yeah, Morgoth is very Satan like in that regard on how powerful but petty he is. Some signs Satan only lost in the past because he was to arrogant and hateful and sadistic and made to many mistakes that came back to haunt him later. Exactly like Morgoth. Morgoth is an extremely psychopathic and sadistic control freak with A need to be more and more evil. Some signs That Tolkien hinted at but never went into detail due to being A devout catholic. That Morgoth especially had a hatred of women and wanted to befoul them. In a way that was even more dark and twisted then Torturing and force mating them. When he viewed Someone like Luthien. This is one of the ways that makes Morgoth weaker than Sauron while Sauron was dark and twisted himself and only A Maia. He never let his hatred grew to such insane level he completely lost his mind to evil. Although he looked down on people like the Hobbits and did seem to grow to secure in his fortress thinking no one. would destroy the ring. He also let Aragorn scare him.. SImilar to how Satan and some demons only Seem to fear Christ. Everyone else they got no fear of what so ever.

    Any Tolkien fan would understand that - IF - a portrayal of this age was to be attempted. It would have to be done very carefully and need much time to reveal just how powerful Morgoth was. The fellowship had an incredibly tough task against Sauron in the war of the rings. However, the war for the Silmarills was much more difficult and ruthless. Sauron was nothing compared to Morgoth. Just be careful and do not water these great battles,characters and storylines down. The elven wars alone would be a tall task.

      Any Tolkien fan would also understand how important language is-not just to professor Tolkien-but to the meanings within, and understanding of, the stories he wrote. Have enough respect to pronounce proper nouns correctly; Tolkien and his stories notwithstanding, just as a professional communicator the narrator should be ashamed.

    15:50 Point of information, the graphic seems to imply the festival was in Formenos, or at least the Valar assembled at Formenos, however the festival of reconciliation was in Manwë and Varda's lofty halls at the summit of Taniquetil and along its slopes. After the attack, the assembly moved to the Ring of Doom the shadow of the Trees from which the Valar attempted to restore the them and discovered their need for the Silmarils to do so. While Fëanor hemmed and hawed over what to do, a messenger arrived with the terrible news of Melkor's raid on his home.

      welp its kinda true i guess but i think its fine they just show up to some epic scenes and never have too big of an impact that would turn the tide as deus ex machina would, like 1 time they just bail 1 dude out who sure was important and everything but not like it turns around a battle and wins a war or something and the other time they just carry away a corpse to get a proper burial. In Hobbit and LotR i guess they again help out in a few cases where they turn around the battle of five armies in Hobbit and help gandalf escape isengard and save frodo and sam but again they have limited impact its not like they go carry the hobbits to mt doom and end the ring or show up there just in time to kill gollum and allow hobbits to throw in the ring or something but just show up afterwards, you could argue none of the quest would happen without gandalf but thats like at start of the trilogy that hes saved and doesnt rly happen in main parts of the quest just helps set it up

      i guess battle of the five armies was the biggest deus ex machina where they show up at basically the climax of hobbit and save the day basically

    And just when I thought your couldn't make a video longer than your War of the Rings documentary, you had to divide this one in 2 parts.
    Tolkien really had a lot under his pen.

      Tolkein had a much better grasp on mythology and grand strategy while GRRM focuses way too much on dynastic geopolitics and he can't even finish his biggest story. Guys like Asimov, Herbert, Simmons, Bakker and Sapkowski are much better than GRRM when it comes to worldbuilding that understands and merges the small scale and large scale while reinforcing their major themes into competent and dynamic character arcs. The Malazan and Culture series should also get more praise than ASOIAF.

      @@yandnat1656 I do like both, that's why I said Martin's work is fun. I've read all the books and watched the entire series and look forward to Winds of Winter, but there is no argument that Tolkien was a much more eloquent prose writer than Martin
