Wizards and Warriors animated fantasy documentary lore video series on the world of Middle-Earth - Lord of the Rings continues with the longform video on the First Age, as we talk about the Rise of Morgoth. In this video we discussed the creation of the world of Tolkien, its powers and races and we see how and why the Elves became the enemies of the Dark Lord Melkor, who they called Morgoth, after their leader Fëanor cursed him for killing his father Finwë and stealing his prized possession - Silmarils. We see how the evil first rose in the world of Arda and will talk about Ungoliant and other evils, about the Valar and Maiar, about the Elves and their sub-groups - Vanyar, Ñoldor, Teleri, and Avari. In Middle-Earth, Morgoth attacks the Teleri Elves in Doriath under Thingol and his allies Cirdan and Denethor starting the War of the Jewels with the First Battle of the Beleriand. Meanwhile, in the Valinor, the Noldor Elves of Feanor attack their Teleri relatives in the First Kinslaying in order to take their ships. Afterwards, Feanor and his sons travel to the Middle-Earth in order to fight Morgoth and take the Silmarils, leading to the battles of Dagor-nuin-Giliath and Lammoth and the death of Feanor. We show the aftermath of the death of Feanor, as the Noldor kingdoms rise in the Middle-Earth taking on Morgoth once again, this time at the battle of Dagor Aglareb, where Feanor's sons Fingolfin and Maedhros, and others fought against the Dark Lord and we also talked about the rise of the humans - the House of Edain. We will describe the battle of Dagor Bragollach and the rise of the father of Dragons Glaurung. In the aftermath of the defeat at the hands of Morgoth, the Elves and Men were on the back foot and the evil spread in the Middle-Earth, but from those dark days, an unlikely pair rose to challenge the darkness - Beren and Lúthien and defeated Morgoth. Their tragic love story inspired Maedhros to create his Union, which attacked the Dark Lord during the Nirnaeth Arnoediad - the battle of Unnumbered Tears.

It sounds like melkor came into existence and immediately chose violence
I think pride, greed and rebellion came first. He wanted the power of Eru, was greedy, proud, jealous, spiteful which led to violence. This video is only a tiny fraction of the full story
To rephrase, "violence came into existence"
Me: Which Pokémon are you going with Lord Melkor?
Melkor: I choose YOU Vio-Lance!!!!
@@justinah7400 basically satan - tolkien reimagined
from what i learned this is correct ,he was a lil B since the start of time
This is one of the best comprehensive "cliff notes" version of the Silmarillion I've ever seen. The focus on the map helps clarify a ton.
This production is AMAZING!! WOW!
The lore of Tolkien is so rich and this “Movie” you all have made for us LOTR fans is simply sublime! 🤩
The illustrations and music accompany the dialogue so perfectly. The “story” you all recall for us, the viewer/reader, is told so perfectly.
Thank you to ALL who made this production possible! Bravo! 👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼
Funny isnt it when you have people who actually love and respect the source material? Almost makes you think bout a certain series that brutally failed
@@ZeroOmega-vg8nqhmm, wonder who could've done that? *looks in Amazon's direction*
In the book elrond predicts borimers death by telling him the dangers of over using his horn he tells him to use it on the border of his land, where he is slain
When you consider how much power was contained just within the Silmarils imagine how horrific and powerful Ungoliant must have been after drinking all the light and sap from BOTH of the trees!
probably had to piss a lot after that.
Great way to look at it.
@@MrGentilushi It burns

Wizards and Warriors, you are among my favorite channels. I haven't missed a single video yet. I even told my best friend about this channel, as well as Kings and Generals.
When you have the time, I'd be interested in watching you guys cover Bram Stoker's Dracula, Christopher Poalini's Inheritance Cycle,Greek mythology and Norse mythology if you can. You have the time and I have the patience.
Morgoth is really interesting. Morgoth was supremely powerful but also supremely petty. He spread his power into all the matter in Arda, The entire Solar system. He cannot be destroyed without destroying the solar system which the Valar are not allowed to do. This lowered his power level tremendously. At Utumno he SHOULD have won but he was already weakened from this. Both he and the valar were shocked at how weak he'd become. At the same time because he corrupted all matter that means physical bodies are all cursed with Morgothness. The conceit is everytime you get sick or fight or are mean to someone that is you giving in to Morgothness of your body. And it is always active trying to ruin your day because Morgoth hates you on a personal level because you exist independently of him. His goal is literally to destroy your life one paper cut and stubbed toe at a time if thats what it takes. It's a running theme, more corrupted by evil you are the less you can actually function.
This is super interesting part about the metaphysics of the Arda. Morgoth is ridiculously powerful, but he has dispersed his power. Only a tiny fraction of his power is in his body. So Fingolfin who has all of his power in his body can fight him. Balrogs on the other hand seem to concentrate their power to their physical form. So they can drive off Ungoliant while Morgoth cannot.
Tulkas is likely one of the least important Valar but can still act as a champion. He likely keeps almost all of his power inside his physical avatar and thus it is concentrated.
Also we have for example Girdle of Melian but there is nothing o indicate that she is actually a superb fighter. Her power seems to be dispersed as well.
Yeah, Morgoth is very Satan like in that regard on how powerful but petty he is. Some signs Satan only lost in the past because he was to arrogant and hateful and sadistic and made to many mistakes that came back to haunt him later. Exactly like Morgoth. Morgoth is an extremely psychopathic and sadistic control freak with A need to be more and more evil. Some signs That Tolkien hinted at but never went into detail due to being A devout catholic. That Morgoth especially had a hatred of women and wanted to befoul them. In a way that was even more dark and twisted then Torturing and force mating them. When he viewed Someone like Luthien. This is one of the ways that makes Morgoth weaker than Sauron while Sauron was dark and twisted himself and only A Maia. He never let his hatred grew to such insane level he completely lost his mind to evil. Although he looked down on people like the Hobbits and did seem to grow to secure in his fortress thinking no one. would destroy the ring. He also let Aragorn scare him.. SImilar to how Satan and some demons only Seem to fear Christ. Everyone else they got no fear of what so ever.
Morgoth is a character that must be done very very carefully if they are to portray him in a movie or a TV series, he is the real deal. The duel between him and Fingal-Finn is amongst my all-time favorites in all literature. 👍
Think we just keep the stories in our books and minds until someone comes along who cares as much as Peter Jackson did.
@@digiblak997And even then there are some that will say even Jackson botched it. Dunno how much of the naysayers are just snobs who can't see the value between books and film but whatever.
Jackson for sure adapted things that are not that good, but, in general, his was a Great adaptation
@@myriadmediamusings i enjoyed the jackson trilogy, didnt like the hobbit so much. Smaug was the best part of that. Rings of Power was ass.
@@Joao-jx1lo He adapted things that he said "were going to be hard to translate from book to movie" but he stayed true to the a lot of tolkien. Same cannot be said for RoP
Tolkien had such a beautiful mind.
Nah bro he wuz a racist 😂
@@mmaboxingclips2407 Even if he was a racist, the two are not mutually exclusive concepts. Do you actually have evidence of Tolkien’s racism, or are you just trying to stir up shit?
@@benjaminkenobi21 I was joking. He’s obviously not a racist
@@mmaboxingclips2407 the only people who believe Tolkien is racist are really the racists themselves.

I like how this shows that the Elves weren't as united as some think they were
its great to see the old lore from the silmarillion in an easy to digest format. thanks guys!
This video is just incredible. The story, details, and order is top-notch. My only question is: how and why would someone dislike this..?
Morgoth is prrretty much the baddest of all bad guys. A god, basically..His power and influence were _immense_ in Middle-earth. Fingolfin's challenge to Morgoth in single combat is one of the best moments from the entirety of Tolkien's Legendarium..
Melkor is to me, all in all, my most favorite villain of _any_ medium.
i genuinely appreciate the sheer amount of time and research went in to deliver such a complete/thorough breakdown of the events that transpired before the films.
best of luck w/ your continued battle against the primordial evil that is youtube's algorithm
I love your Middle-Earth series! Can't wait for the Fall of Gondolin, my favorite First Age battle. Maybe even my favorite battle in all of Tolkien's legendarium!
Despite being one of the all time low points 😔
At least Gothmog finally gets his butt kicked.
You know Tolkien was metal because he came up with the name **Battle of Unnumbered Tears**
That sounds like a band from Finland.
I just thought he was metal for fighting in World War 1
WORD 🤘🤘🤘
Absolutely splendid work. This was a titanic enterprise, and one masterfully fulfilled. Your work is unmatched!
Any Tolkien fan would understand that - IF - a portrayal of this age was to be attempted. It would have to be done very carefully and need much time to reveal just how powerful Morgoth was. The fellowship had an incredibly tough task against Sauron in the war of the rings. However, the war for the Silmarills was much more difficult and ruthless. Sauron was nothing compared to Morgoth. Just be careful and do not water these great battles, characters and storylines down. The elven wars alone would be a tall task.
Any Tolkien fan would also understand how important language is-not just to professor Tolkien-but to the meanings within, and understanding of, the stories he wrote. Have enough respect to pronounce proper nouns correctly; Tolkien and his stories notwithstanding, just as a professional communicator the narrator should be ashamed.
I don't trust anybody to handle this source material and adapt it into anything good
I would love to see the "war of the powers " the full might of the valar crashing down hard on Melkor at Angband.
You seem to be the only one here that speaks wisely. And Mads makes sense for you! Viking art thou! Read the other comments but be prepared to puke!
So your saying it's not gonna happen...
15:50 Point of information, the graphic seems to imply the festival was in Formenos, or at least the Valar assembled at Formenos, however the festival of reconciliation was in Manwë and Varda's lofty halls at the summit of Taniquetil and along its slopes. After the attack, the assembly moved to the Ring of Doom the shadow of the Trees from which the Valar attempted to restore the them and discovered their need for the Silmarils to do so. While Fëanor hemmed and hawed over what to do, a messenger arrived with the terrible news of Melkor's raid on his home.
Wow. The deep dive into this amazing work will take me right the way through Elevenses, Afternoon Tea, Dinner and Supper! 😉 After a good watch through over a meal (or several in this case lol) if I'm not in the mood for music, then these long form and serialized Tolkien videos are my "go-to" for audio accompaniment when busy at work or home. So thankful for this channel. 😌✋ Cheers lads! 🍻
You forgot about breakfast, second breakfast, and lunch!
Lol
Don't forget luncheon!
this deserves a series of it's own and have massive scale battles and animations
God I can't believe it's already finished
This video only tells a very brief overview of the full story. It only scratches the surface. The more in depth you learn the more appreciation you get for it.
Love the voiceover, enough inflection and emotion to keep engaged and interested over the near two hours. As well as keeping a steady volume and cadence so as it’s not difficult to fall asleep to either
When he said "No other race shall oust us", I was ready to kick some Toucas ass, I was hyped.
This simple, video, made with obvious care, ans love, and reverence for Tolkien and his lore, has done so very much more for the telling of a magnificent and ageless classic than any giant conglomerate ever could . From the bottom of my heart thank you. Thank. You for this. From a true Tolkien fan, simply, thank you 😊
This video is what we hoped Rings of Power would be. Kudos to you for creating this ❤
I had no hope for Rings of Power as they sat on the IP for years waiting for Christopher Tolkien to pass.
This is probably one of the best retellings of the silmarillion i've ever seen, great content!
I love this stuff. The visualization really helps with being able to follow along the densely packed lore of Tolkien.
I must leave a comment to help my wizards and warriors, this is one of the greatest videos I've seen on this platform, I can't wait for the second age to piece it all together, thank you so much, also your voice is incredible and clear for this kind of video and especially tackling Tolkiens language
I’m listening to the audio book for the first time. I must admit, I’ve been very confused. This video helped me so much by putting the image in my brain of what’s been going on. Thank you so much ❤
Agreed
When I read the silmerilian I was lost to all the strategy of the wars, this pictures it all perfectly, it would make a good series if made by real directors and story tellers than the modern shit workers in Hollywood, rings of power being an example.
ive been a huge fan of kings and generals for a long time cannot believe i only just realised this channel existed , fantastic work as ever i honestly feel so lucky creators like you guys exist .
Thank you for visual and audio interpretation of the best story ever written. Good job
Absolutely epically depicted and told
You guys are amazing! This video is probably the closest I'll get to actually seeing this story! The way you incorporate the map so we can see exactly where things are taking place. ❤
Morgoth Is truly the most iconic dark Lord besides like Satan from the bible or some shit like that💀 he truly has shaped the medium like no other character I'm pretty sure every fantasy writer has taken inspiration from this character and sauron in some why shape or form when writing their antagonist just look at palpatine and Voldemort or gywn from dark souls or even the emperor of mankind from Warhammer 40k pretty much any fantasy series to ever exist has taken something from Tolkien Dude truly was an icon.
Hence his certified position as the ”Father of Modern High Fantasy Literature”. Almost every fantasy author, be it low, high or sci-fi take inspiration from him in some way.
Love the vocabulary you use to describe the events. Amazing work.
Best video on yt on the topic. Clear, yet not lacking details. Managing to explain a whole lot about the elves and the timeline too
this is amazing as it gets, this is fantastic. i love everything about this video in all its glory. there are so many great characters in this story.
Truly wonderful! Been waiting for this since i discovered your channel.
Keep it up. So much to do for the events in the Silmarillion
Love wizards and warriors
This is so well-done, I get goosebumps @1:40:10.
As someone fascinated by the Elder Days, thank you for this awesome production!
This is amazing. Thank you so much for making this!
This is beautifully executed. Well researched and explained briskly but accurately. You deserve praise, awards and money. Thank you for those extremely helpful maps and graphics
Nice to have this story again by your channel, collected and summarized and narrated in one nice video. 👍
Very well done! Cheers, bravo to your work 🎉🎉🎉
So this king of eagles is basically the deus ex machina. 🤣🤣
True-ish, but we get Checkhov's Eagle in LOTR and Silmarillion so I'm ok with it.
welp its kinda true i guess but i think its fine they just show up to some epic scenes and never have too big of an impact that would turn the tide as deus ex machina would, like 1 time they just bail 1 dude out who sure was important and everything but not like it turns around a battle and wins a war or something and the other time they just carry away a corpse to get a proper burial. In Hobbit and LotR i guess they again help out in a few cases where they turn around the battle of five armies in Hobbit and help gandalf escape isengard and save frodo and sam but again they have limited impact its not like they go carry the hobbits to mt doom and end the ring or show up there just in time to kill gollum and allow hobbits to throw in the ring or something but just show up afterwards, you could argue none of the quest would happen without gandalf but thats like at start of the trilogy that hes saved and doesnt rly happen in main parts of the quest just helps set it up
i guess battle of the five armies was the biggest deus ex machina where they show up at basically the climax of hobbit and save the day basically
Great video, keep making more! Your efforts are much appreciated!
And just when I thought your couldn't make a video longer than your War of the Rings documentary, you had to divide this one in 2 parts.
Tolkien really had a lot under his pen.
What an awesome video. I have read the Silmarillion several times during my lifetime. Still an amazing story and your channel has done it justice. Well done.
Been waiting for this, can't wait for the next! Thank you!
I love your content generally but these videos on Tolkien are some of my all-time faves on RUclips. Thank you.
You have made my day with this documentary. Thank you.

Always remember, all things dance to the tune of Aluvitar leading to a finale supremely complete and beautiful. All things in his domain will witness and bathe in his musical light. Sauron and Frodo will join in glorious dance as they see and hear the genius of Aluvitar🧙🏾♂️
A great story. ❤ Hope to see moore lore and tales from middle earth.
Game of Thrones is fun, but Martin will never be a writer like Tolkien, just reading (or listening in this case) the Doom of Mandos gives me chills
Me too.
Tolkein had a much better grasp on mythology and grand strategy while GRRM focuses way too much on dynastic geopolitics and he can't even finish his biggest story. Guys like Asimov, Herbert, Simmons, Bakker and Sapkowski are much better than GRRM when it comes to worldbuilding that understands and merges the small scale and large scale while reinforcing their major themes into competent and dynamic character arcs. The Malazan and Culture series should also get more praise than ASOIAF.
The "RR" doesn't make him an equal to JRRT.
Or you could like both, just a thought
@@yandnat1656 I do like both, that's why I said Martin's work is fun. I've read all the books and watched the entire series and look forward to Winds of Winter, but there is no argument that Tolkien was a much more eloquent prose writer than Martin
