The Rohirrim are some of my favorite people from Middle Earth. Their love of horses is admirable and their resilience against overwhelming enemies is awesome! Thanks a lot, WAW!
“Arise, arise, riders of Rohan! Fell deeds awake, fire and slaughter! Spear shall be shaken, shield be splintered! A sword-day, a red day, ere the sun rises! Ride now, ride now, ride to Gondor! Death!”
1:11:27 A rather Underrated Line. "Out of doubt, out of dark to the day's rising I came singing in the sun, sword unsheathing. To hope's end I rode and to heart's breaking. Now for wrath, now for ruin and a red nightfall! Ahahaha!" "These staves he spoke, yet he laughed as he said them. For once more lust of battle was on him, and he was still unscathed, and he was young, and he was king, the lord of a fell people. And lo, even as he laughed at despair he looked out again on the black ships, and he lifted up his sword to defy them. And then wonder took him, and a great joy, and he cast his sword up in the sunlight and sang as he caught it. And all eyes followed his gaze, and behold! upon the foremost ship a great standard broke, and the wind displayed it as she turned towards the Harlond. There flowered a White Tree, and that was for Gondor, but Seven Stars were about it, and a high crown above it, the signs of Elendil that no lord had borne for years beyond count. And the stars flamed in the sunlight, for they were wrought of gems by Arwen daughter of Elrond; and the crown was bright in the morning, for it was wrought of mithril and gold. Thus came Aragorn, Son of Arathron.
I have often cited this paragraph to be my favorite scene in the books. Such a buildup of tension, despair and defiance, only for Eomer to realize who it is in the ships. And then this bit: "Thus came Aragorn son of Arathorn, Elessar, Isildur’s heir, out of the Paths of the Dead, borne upon a wind from the Sea to the kingdom of Gondor; and the mirth of the Rohirrim was a torrent of laughter and a flashing of swords, and the joy and wonder of the City was a music of trumpets and a ringing of bells. But the hosts of Mordor were seized with bewilderment, and a great wizardry it seemed to them that their own ships should be filled with their foes; and a black dread fell on them, knowing that the tides of fate had turned against them and their doom was at hand. East rode the knights of Dol Amroth driving the enemy before them: troll-men and Variags and orcs that hated the sunlight. South strode Eomer and men fled before his face, and they were caught between the hammer and the anvil. For now men leaped from the ships to the quays of the Harlond and swept north like a storm. There came Legolas, and Gimli wielding his axe, and Halbarad with the standard, and Elladan and Elrohir with stars on their brow, and the dour-handed Dunedain, Rangers of the North, leading a great valour of the folk of Lebennin and Lamedon and the fiefs of the South. But before all went Aragorn with the Flame of the West, Anduril like a new fire kindled, Narsil re-forged as deadly as of old; and upon his brow was the Star of Elendil." Just... Wow.
@@dusanbanovic5085 Indeed. I was rather disappointment with Jackson completely replacing the Southern Armies of Gondor with the Dead men of Dunharrow. It was the Greatest battle of the Third Age, and the Greatest Victory of the Free peoples, Men, Against the disciples of Melkor. Even there was no mention of Prince Imrahil, Baragond, or the Swan knights of Dol Amroth. Just Imagine if this scene was to play out. Eomer's speech could may as well be up there with Theoden's, perhaps even surpassing it. Phil Dragash's Return of the King Audiobook just bring this scene to life. perfectly.
@@nickm9027 Helm not the main character. Hera is a greek name, Rohan is very clearly Anglo Saxon. The story about a "war" had very little actual action. @@umadbroimatroll7918 her name is Herá not Hera, also its just an anime action movie that took her for the main character as not to get too close to the official lore so nothing would do much conflict with official lore and how is she not in the lore if Helm literaly has 1 daughter of unknown name (which game authors the freedom to name her Herá for the story and at the very beginning said that you wouldn't hear any songs about her nowadays)
@@TheSabaton1 they fully changed the story of helm, he takes a backseat in his own story and the girl boss mary sue does all the work and wins the day. They fully changed his death, his will, the reason for punching, his emotions, all changed. Then this whole part at the end "she wasnt mentioned on history because she didnt have kids" like she was better than every single soldier of Rohan, doing legolas style combat, yet forgotten because the lore has to end that way.
@@umadbroimatroll7918 Actually no they didn't change Helm's history. Tolkien Gateway summarises his life and the film follows it. The film gives a name to Helm's unnamed daughter and makes her the focus. Helm's history is not changed all the film does is focus on the now named daughter Hera.
Interesting to see the differences between the books(haven't read those, yet) and jackson trilogy(I knew he had to cut some corners/shorten/omit things somewhere so overall scenario would fit the still lengthy runtime).

I will often assume that many of the northmen who moved into Anduin from Rhovania some stayed behind and when many Of the Anduin northmen moved to Rohan some stayed behind. It would be impossible for ALL of them to move. Look at the Saxons and Danes, some stayed in Germany and Jutland, not all of them moved into Britain for example.

IThe Rohirim are together with the dwarves my favorite faction of the "good" nations of LotR. It is however sad that in the new film they seem to had made Helm Hammerhand nicer than he was. I mean the guy was a racist brute who brought despair and harm upon his family and his people with no reason. As your video shows Wulf had very good reason to strike against Rohan - I mean its king murdered his father and drove him and his kin of their home just for an insult (after he insulted Wulfs father first). Less the action of a good or just king, more that of a tyrrant.
Helm, though an epic figure, was arguably the worst king Rohan had if you simply compare how they fared at the beginning and then at the end of his reign. Fengel may have had a worse character, but he did not get the chance to mess up things as spectacularly as Helm did.
