Kubota Tractor won't start...Try This

- #kubotawontstart If your Kubota tractor won't start watch this video - and try this first. For almost a Month I could not start the Kubota Tractor, come to find out after testing every switch and relay on the tractor it is a plunger switch on the what Kubota calls the (speed control pedal in the owners manual) (they should call it the Forward/Reverse pedal) Translators ? LOL. I replaced the switch watch that video here: • Starting Issues with K... The switch I got was for a 2013 L3800 Kubota TD-060-53902 yours may have a different number ...I did see some online but I would check your local Kubota dealer first. To test circuits, fuses and switches use a multimeter tester you can get one here: amzn.to/2A5ihXN , you check continuity of circuits...simple example: if you have a standard fuse you put the test wires on either end if fuse is blown it wont show on your meter, if its good needle will go up showing that current can flow through it...(Continuity) if your multi-meter doesn't have a dedicated continuity test mode, you can still perform a continuity test. Turn the dial to the lowest setting in the resistance mode in the ohms portion of the meter.
That plunger has given me nothing but problems. I end up watching this video about once a year. So Thanks for making it!
Glad to help, Thanks for watching and commenting.
June 2024, and as below, you just saved me. Went through all the 'known' causes, was ready to call the shop, watched this video...the dang speed control switch! REALLY!! Thanks
Glad to help, Thanks for watching and commenting.
You saved my Sunday! I’ve been trying to track down a gremlin for weeks and your video cleared it all up for me. Thank you from Rhode Island!!
Your welcome Thanks for watching and commenting.
I was putting hay up in the loft with my endloader.....and mine would not restart......Thank you for posting. Same problem..saved me so much time and was able to get the hay all up before the storm hits.
You are truly a hero. Great, great video. My L3400 started just fine when I went out into my woodlot, but wouldn't start for the trip back. The plunger switch was precisely the problem, and I would have been completely stranded if not for your video. Mighty thanks!!!
Glad to help, that switch is so ridiculous...thanks for watching and commenting.
Thanks for this video. I never would have known this was here. The piece that pushes it was out of adjustment. Saved me a lot of time
Your welcome, yea its crazy...Thanks for watching and commenting.
Nice job of troubleshooting the problem. It's exactly minor problems like this that cause you to better know and understand your machine. I am sure Kubota deliberately left the issue out of the manual to increase service and maintenance revenue.
Job well done for accomplishing the solution yourself.
Thanks for watching and commenting
Thanks!! This is the exact issue I am having. My assumption is that the part is easy to change out.
Thanks for sharing. My L3200 did this for the first time yesterday and this was the problem. Your video saved me a ton of time and stress. Really appreciate it.
Your very welcome, yea it is probably the craziest issue I have ever encounter with my farm equipment, glad to help, Thanks for watching and commenting.
Mate you’re a legend. Same thing happened to mine. 4 pushes of the switch and boom. How good 👍
Glad to help, Thanks for watching and commenting.
hubby tells me he had a bad day, kubota won't start. he thinks it's a safety switch. youtube to the rescue. thank you so much and yes this is what was wrong too. we were able to get it back into the building. thanks again for the valuable information!
So Glad to help, took me over a month, taking apart the dash testing all the safety switches and connections..learned my lesson years ago taking tractors to the shop and spending thousands...Thanks for watching and commenting.
Literally thank you for this. Sitting on my tractor now and it finally started. THANK YOU
Your welcome, glad to help. Thanks for watching and commenting.
Thank you so much for this. It was the same issue for me and through this video I was able to fix it with ease! You are a champ!
Your welcome, glad to help, Thanks for watching and commenting
Sir! Thank you so much for this video. Took me about an hour of checking before I found your video. Thank you very much for your help.
Your welcome, Glad to help, Thanks for watching and commenting.
Thank you!!! This helped my husband get his started right up!!
Glad to help Thanks for watching and commenting
Sweet! You saved the day! I was about to loose my mind! Thanks so much for taking the time to make this video!
Your welcome, yea that plunger switch is crazy stupid, I wonder how many Kubota owners have spent thousands because of that switch. Thanks for watching and commenting.
Thanks for the video! I've been having exactly the same problem and found a blackberry branch which levered in next to the gas pedal
Your welcome...that switch is definitely a pain...Thanks for watching and commenting
Thanks so much for that video you made it was a lifesaver for me I was just up at my place for 2 weeks out in the country and I didn't have time to mess with the dealer and I watch this video on this on the plunger and it absolutely was a game-changer in a lifesaver you save me time and money thanks so much again for that
Your welcome, glad to help, Thanks for watching and commenting
You posted this 6 years ago and it just saved me in June 2023! I was stuck out in the field only for a couple hours, instead of days or weeks, thanks to you.
Your welcome, thanks for watching and commenting.
My son showed me that you can adjust this part to make sure it goes to "N" with the nut. So far, It seems to have worked. Hopes this helps. If not, I will re-post to this comment.
You saved me a lot of grief and for that I thank you. I thought I was going crazy with the intermittent starting. Just sure it was a connection, fuse, starter, solenoid or worse. My first RUclips comment ever because you deserve a huge Thanks!
Glad to help Thanks for watching and commenting
"If you took it in and said it didn't run, it'd be a thousand dollars, I guarantee it." That's right.
Life saver. I was about to return this thing lol.
This is exactly what was wrong with mine. Thank you for saving me all that time and trouble!
Your Welcome, glad to help, Thanks for watching and commenting.
Just want to say thank you for the video. I have a 23-year-old Kubota, which is used for plowing snow and hauling firewood. I have had no problem with it till today. Up to our butt in snow from the last few days and it decided not to start... All these years, I have never had one go. SO, I watched your video and subscribed, LIked... This gave me the idea that it was one of those lockouts... I dug in and around, poked prodded, low and behold it was one of them; frozen closed... would have cost me a months pension check to get someone to look at it... Thank You Very Much for the idea...
Glad to help thanks for watching and commenting
Thanks for the info it happened to me this morning watched your video and the plunger had come lose and moved up pushed it back down and she fired right up. Thanks again.
Your Welcome, Glad to help, Thanks for watching and commenting
Ditto. Even brought a new battery, had a few beers, calculated the service charge, had a few more beers, then found your helpful video. Great job mate. Cheers from Australia .....
Your welcome Thanks for watching and commenting.
Beer is the answer!
Fantastic job this was my problem also Thanks
Just stumbled on this video trying to troubleshoot my Kubota. You just saved me so much headache and wallet ache. Bless you sir.
Thank you so much for this video. That was my problem exactly. You saved me a shop bill and days of down time. Excellent video!
Thanks for watching and commenting.
Omg thanks, mine started right up after I manually engaged the switch
Glad to help Thanks for watching and commenting
Thank you from the hollars in KY. Damn clump of hay.
Thank you so much! 2 Kubota dealers couldn't tell me what was wrong but I had the exact same issue. It's absolutely infuriating that Kubota makes these machines inoperable if any of these OPC sensors fail. Imagine if your seat belt broke in your car or truck and your vehicle became inoperable and then the dealer says they can't take it in for a month?!
Your welcome, glad to help, that switch is so stupid...Thanks for watching and commenting.
Thanks. This video saved me hours of wasting time. Legend!
I’ve got a L3200 and mine does the same. First time it happened I was out in the field and nothing when key in start position, not even clicking. Walked home watched your video, walked back work forward/reverse pedal and manual worked neutral plunger and it started. Held for a year or so. Yesterday I serviced tractor and noticed it had a rough start lots of clicking then it fired up. I immediately thought battery (7+ yrs old). Finished servicing and couldn’t get it to start just loud clicking. Tried jumping and nothing. Battery tested fine at local auto shop. After researching/forum overload I had everything from starter, wiring, relays etc. to check. Then I remembered this pesky neutral switch. Got underneath where forward/reverse pedals rods are and noticed it wasn’t coming all the way back from reverse to neutral. Came back above decking at the neutral plunger and sure enough it wasn’t fully depressing the n/plunger. So if you try to start and you get nothing (no clicks) check here first. If you try to start and get clicking check here too. Sorry so long winded just wanted to let folks know this can fix the dreaded Kubota clicking but not starting too. Thanks again for this helpful video.
Yea I hate that switch, my switch had a short in it, since I replaced it in 2016, it hasn't messed up again...Thanks for watching and commenting....
Thanks Man!!! I thought I was going crazy. LOL. My same exact issue.
Thank you for posting this! You saved us a lot of time and money! So happy it was an easy fix.
Glad to help, Thanks for watching and commenting.
Man you are a life save! Happened to me today with my boss’s tractor.
Glad to help, Thanks for watching and commenting.
Thank you for this post. I had the same problem and solved it with your solution! Dirt blocking the hydrostatic pedal. Rocked the pedal as you tried and it WORKED!
Your welcome, glad to help, thanks for watching and commenting.
That did it!!
Thanks so much for the great lead.
I spent hours looking for the issue and was about to call the dealer to have my B2910 hauled in for repair when I thought to search the 'net and found this video.
Thanks again for posting.
Your Welcome, Thanks for watching and commenting
Piece of garbage kubota tractor I’m telling you when you buy kubota make sure it comes with a mechanic because they are nothing but problems I can’t believe this company will get away with problems like this
I have a L4240 Kubota and it is diesel and it will do absolutely nothing when I try to start it. All the fuses are good ect.. any ideas?
did you check what was in the video....the speed control pedal switch..../ if you did..than check all micro switches one on all pedals and the PTO lever.....at the end of the video is a link to installing a new pedal switch...Good luck
Considering the cost of these machines (I have a B2630) The fact that they do NOT, so far as I can tell have a comprehensive break-out checklist for all these stupid sensors. Safety? My ass! The least safe thing I can comprehend is my tractor shutting off, while I am backing up on a incline with a load of dirt in the bucket. Or randomly shutting off at 10mph, on the street moving between lots because your weight shifted on the seat during a turn.
Its a nasty stain on Kubota's reputation.
I know isn't it crazy...I think they want you to have to take it to the shop. Every time we take a farm machine to the shop no matter what it is its always over a $1000, its just crazy took me a month before I found this... I have never seen so many sensors and micro switches and the stupid headlight replacement.... I have a video on that too, hey thanks for watching and commenting.
Just found this video while stranded in a cold rain with a tractor that suddenly decided it didn’t want to start. Cleared it right up. Thanks!
We have been fighting this mysterious, non-starting problem for over a year!!! It was so intermittent that we could not predict when it was going to happen so I just left my tractor running when working. One time it happened to me with the tractor out in the field and I thought I was royally screwed. 2 days later it just decided to start again!! We have tested everything possible, even the starter to no avail. The fact that juggling the steering wheel, or plugging in the battery tender worked was crazy. There was no way to even explain it to a technician. THANK YOU Virginia Srew. This was an excellent video. Mine is a L3200. Perfect.
Your welcome, glad to help
You sir are my hero. Tractor wouldn't start (very cold here this week). I knew it was a safety switch somewhere but no idea how to diagnose it. The nearest Kubota dealer is 25 miles away and not cheap. This is the first video I watched and after f$%king with the foot pedal my MX4700 fired up. I think the cold weather got the switch stuck. Thank s much for posting.
Glad to help, Thanks for watching and commenting.
My L2900 is doing same thing--turn on switch and nothing--I hear a click a second or so after I turn ignition switch off. Instrument panel turns on--I replace battery since it was old, cleaned ground strap, replaced all fuses, inspected all safety switches--didn't use multi-meter as I'm not too familiar with how to use it. But one day it just didn't start. Any help or pics of where I might find problem is appreciated. Great video, I'm going to try this next time I'm out at my property.
You saved me. Thank you.
Your Welcome glad to help.
When mine started giving problems, could rock the pedal and it would engage the started, but it got where that would not work. I found that if I pushed down on the top of the switch, it would engage the starter. Took a couple of zip ties and went around the switch, putting pressure on the wiring end of the switch to pull it down, the system works like it is supposed to. I am guessing that the switch being spring loaded is pushing the internal parts apart, dont know if the new switch is built any better or if it would require a tie wrap to hold it together.
I put a new switch in, that video is linked in description and end of the video. I have not had anymore trouble since. Thanks for watching and commenting.
Ive has same issue. However I just adjusted the switch and fixed the problem. Now im experiencing another issue. When I turn the key on I do not get an audible click. Tractor will turn over but will not start. Im not sure what solenoid is suppose to engage when key is turned on.
Not going to lie, I was like, just get to the damn solution already. I'm glad I was patient, though. I pumped the forward and back peddles a couple of times, and I was back up and running. Thank you!
Thank you for taking the time to make this video... Appreciate you!
My husband says “ you saved me a lot of time! So many times you can’t find these things in the manual . It takes experience so I really appreciate you sharing your experience .”
Glad to help, hanks for watching and commenting.
Thanks so much! Solved my problem. I was about to start panicking and was thinking it’s going to cost me a lot of money. It was just the pedal!
Your welcome glad to help, Thanks for watching and commenting
Thank you, kind sir
Your welcome, glad to help, Thanks for watching and commenting.
My dad just passed away very unexpectedly a month ago and me and my sister have been taking care of his land, his tractor wouldn’t start and this was exactly the problem. Thank you so much, I know my dad appreciates it.
Sorry for your loss, Thank you and I am sure he does. Best wishes, glad to help.
Got me going again today. Thank you.
I just watched this video and it was exactly what was wrong with my L3400!! Thank you
Your welcome glad to help thanks for watching and commenting.
Same thing happened to me today. Thank you for the video.
Had the same problem with a B7800 with a mid mower I found just a few pieces of grass would stop
the peddle from returning to neutral
That's the one switch I didn't think of. Thank you!
Great video - mine was the same switch only I didn't have to replace it (at least not yet). I just moved the forward/backwards pedal a little bit and it cranked up. Thanks!
Your welcome, glad to help, Thanks for watching and commenting
Thanks for the info! This was the fix for mine too.
Championship troubleshooting! Two thumbs up! i owe ya a steak & a cold beer! it's Christmas day 12.25.2022 and a 'gift' i was doing for my sweetie was foiled by the Grinch of Kubota plunger switches! Your step-by-step got me out of a hard night's sleeping in the barn with the "other" livestock!----thank you! ;-) Gregg, Roseburg Oregon.
Thanks, Glad to help.
That's the problem I was having with my MX5400. You saved me an incredible amount of time, frustration, and money. THANK YOU!
Glad to help, Thanks for watching and commenting!
That must be like a neutral safety switch ….so the tractor doesn’t take off immediately after it starts! Nice find tho
Saved me in July 2024!
Glad to help Thanks for watching and commenting.
Thank you so much. Mine was the same just a small stone from my boot
Glad to help. Thanks for watching and commenting.
Great video. It's a wonderful feeling to discover a common problem that no one else has recognized. This video will probably save other Kubota owners a lot of time and money.
I can't believe I didn't see other videos about this hopefully it will help those people who have checked everything and just don't know that switch even exist...Thanks for watching and commenting..
@@TheVirginiaStew It's 6 years after you made this video and today it totally saved my bacon. I checked EVERYTHING and could not for the life of me get my tractor started. Your video was the first thing that came up when I googled "Kubota won't start". Five minutes later, I was back to work. I'm so glad you decided to make and post this. It really saved the day for me and my farm. Thanks a million!
Your welcome, thanks for watching and commenting
Thank you, thank you!!! I have a new Kabota, I did a little work this morning (miserable weather!), I stopped the tractor bro do some shovel work went back onto the tractor and was unable to get it started ! So frustrating!!! Rather than troubleshoot the whole thing, I found your video right off and had it fixed within a minute. Thank you so much for your help!
My dad asked my to say Thanks for your video- it really helped him figured out his tractor issue!
Your welcome, Glad to help, Thanks for watching and commenting.
Thank you!! I have been unable to start my Kubota 2501 for a couple of months (only have 80 hours on it!) and have tried to figure out the different safety switches. Your video let me know at least where to look - I found the plunger, pressed it a few times, and the tractor started right up!
Glad to help, That is such a dumb switch and doesn't even need to be on a tractor. I wonder how many repair dollars were spent over the years needlessly by thousands of tractor owners. Thanks for watching and commenting.
My Kubota M4900 Utility tractor will not start. A mechanic spent the day today in my shop trouble-shooting and we could not resolve the issue. My tractor does not have the rocker pedal for forward/reverse motion. I have a lever that moves forward, neutral, and reverse. If the “direction lever” is not in neutral, tractor will not start. Same premise as in the video! Is there a safety switch for this lever that could be my issue? Hope so, I’m about out of options!
There are several plunger switches throughout Kubota tractors so I would suspect there is one somewhere that is causing it. It probably moves a lever further on where the switch is. You may have to remove some covers to find it. It took me a month off and on to find this switch its not on my pedal. But the pedal moves a lever that activates my switch as you see in the video. Good Luck and Thanks for watching and commenting.
Thanks Brother! I troubleshot the hell why that damn tractor wouldn’t start… saw your comments on the speed control switch. I had it started within five minutes after spending $157 on a new battery! I wish I had seen your video before I bought that damn battery!
Glad to help, Thanks for watching and commenting.
Well you certainly understand Kabota. Thanks for the video.
You sir are a life saver! I wish I would have found this before 3 days of working on this though ....;)
I know what you mean it took me a month to find it. Glad to help, Thanks for watching and commenting.
I'm pretty unhappy with my 3901 for similar reasons. Won't likely buy another Kubota. My Chevy's the same way. Switches and warnings and lawyers. Everything is ate up with lawyers.
I agree, Thanks for watching and commenting.
Thank you friend you saved me a lot of heartache. I had the same switch fail but the plastic portion of the switch had pushed up out of the lower portion and prevented starting. I was working my way through the same steps you did when I ran across your video. You lead me directly to the problem.
Glad to help thanks for watching and commenting.
Thank you for your video, my B2650 died down an embankment. I thought I would need a tow truck just to pull it out to get it serviced. I checked all the fuses and tapped on everything, jumped the seat safety switch, still nothing. Then I watched your video. My switch is underneath above some lines but that was the problem. I poked it a few times and it started right up!!! Thanks again 😁 Your a genius!!!💃
Wow thank you thatwas it looked like microswitch on the forward /reverse pedal had come just a little lose from its housing maybe an 1/8 inch that was it. Saved me a lot of time
Your welcome, glad to help, Thanks for watching and commenting.
I just want to thank you! Today while working on the land I shut my tractor down for a quick break, when I tried starting the glow plugs and dash would light up but nothing with cranking over. I tied everything I could think of, after no success I turned to you tube. I found your video and tried out the foot pedal switch by rocking back and forth- it worked! I was able to finish the job and save money on calling onto the dealer/ service. Thanks again for your valuable video!!!
much thanks brother, you just save me hours of digging.
Thanks for your vidio you save me lot of time,,,,mine just turn on doing that ..
Had similar issue. Was clearing property and got some dirt around the speed control/HST pedal. Somehow popped the key stop fuse. The message on my Grand L tractor gave a HST error message. Called dealer and they had never seen that message so they sent out a tech - they thought it might be a safety switch. Cost $3.50 for fuse and 1/2 labor for a total of $70.50.
Thanks so much. Agree this is dumb that Kubota didn't have this in the troubleshooting guide. I started looking at a bunch of stuff, fuses etc, then found your video and realized my hydrostatic pedal was sticking just barely forward.
Thanks for the video, this worked for my L3301 after I traced wired and cleaned connections for a couple of hours.
Your welcome, glad to help, Thanks for watching and commenting
You have no idea how YOU saved my day! Big THANKS!!
Your welcome, glad to help, Thanks for watching and commenting
Was having this intermittent problem. My tractor only has 125 hours, so based on the many comments here I venture to say that this limit switch is somewhat maladjusted from the factory, barely making contact. Over time, it either quits making contact or just every now and then. I removed the switch (only one bolts holds it in place) and re-adjusted. Problem gone. Thanks for taking the time to make this video.
Makes sense. Thank you! Adding this to my list of stuff to try. Hard to get through everything when your tractor is over an hour away at another property, in such a position that you can't drag it onto a trailer, and you have no internet, cellular service, or any utility at your tractor.
Hope that is what it is, Good Luck, Thanks for watching and commenting.
Thank you. Saved me a bunch of time and troubleshooting. 2013 B3350SU. Switch is in a different spot, but it was my problem.
So much! Totally helped me a ton man. Thank you.
Glad to help thanks for watching and commenting.
All my gauges are coming on, but nothing when I turn the key. We just pressure washed it, I can see how a dirt clod could do that. Thanks, I get back with you tomorrow!!
Hah!!! Thanks for posting this, I have exactly the same problem. You made my day!😅
Your welcome, Thanks for watching and commenting.
Thank you sir!!!! After banging my head on a wall chasing relays, fuses, touched the pedal and fired right up!
Your welcome, glad to help, Thanks for watching and commenting.
This is what happened to my 3901 and it drove me nuts trying to figure it out. I replaced the 59 dollar seat switch, but it made no difference. The speed control foot lever overdrive switch is what the parts guy called it
Mine as well. Thanks for RUclips and your video!
We have a B7500 that would not start. Getting ready to check all the interlocks when we pulled the left hand hood off and found the wire to the oil pressure sensor had come off. Stuck the wire back on and she started right up. Saved us a lot of time and trouble finding that first thing.
Unbelievable I stood up on my tractor it turned off and wouldn't restart, I found your video, worked the pedal back and forth and removed some debris band it started right up, thank you thank you thank you
I just tried this. Immediately worked! Thank you very much. Saved me countless hours!
Your welcome, glad to Help, Thanks for watching and commenting.
On a B-26 it's under the floorboard and it is a bear to get to.
Thank you VirginiaStew. You saved me a lot of time and $$$. Greatly appreciated.
Your welcome, Thanks for watching and commenting.
