If you could stay or go back to Anza Borrego for the spring bloom, it should be incredible this year with all the rain!! When I still lived in southern CA, I went out on an off road long weekend with the Sierra Club to see the bloom and it was one of the greatest things I've seen in my life. Every single plant out there was blooming! All the cacti, every shrub and tree. Absolutely gorgeous. We did have an ungodly wind storm the first night and it shook my Jeep Cherokee so bad I didn't have any sleep. The noise of so much sand hitting the car was enough to keep you awake too, but the blooms were worth it!
Ohhhhh yes! We would love to see a super bloom in the desert! One of these years 🤞Sounds like quite the adventurous trip you had!
Those sculptures are great! Thanks for sharing.
That first was not a boondock failure actually it was a success because had you continued you would have been stuck. Great wisdom people. ❤
Thanks 👍
Thanks for sharing and taking us along!
You bet! Thanks for watching!
Happy New Year.
Small world, got to meet you and Louie on your walk today and came back to the trailer and saw a new episode posted. We love your channel- Kyle & Michelle
Great to meet you as well Kyle! We'll see you guys around this week! 😊
Louie is such a gentleman, I saw he went behind the rock to do his business. First trip out in my RV I had to do the back up trick, and I was by myself. What a lesson. Good video guys.
Oh yes that would be very tough by yourself!!!
To anyone who enjoys boon docking, check out the shower miser and sink miser from Aqua view. Saves so much from your fresh water tank when you wash dishes or even a rinse shower. Especially if you have a tankless water heater.
You guys absolutely picked the right restaurant. Toni and I were down in Borrego boondocking last week and ate at the Red Ocotillo. We live in San Diego so we've been to Borrego Springs many times. I'm glad you enjoyed our backyard, Anza Borrego truly is a hidden gem! If you're still in the area, and make it over to Slab City, go see East Jesus. It's full of amazing artwork and is a must see.
So good! We only spent a week there, but we need to go back and explore more. So much to see and do! 😊
I’m with you regarding research. I don’t want to know allllll the things. Then there are no surprises! Thanks for showing this eclectic place.
Yesssss! 😊
Great video! Just found you today. Well done; love the conversation!
Awesome! Thank you for watching ! 😊
Love the video. Keep them coming! 😊
Thank you Mark! Will do!
Very much enjoyed this video. I love the respectful interaction between both of you. Thank you for all your work and producing this one. Oh, and I really like the music You chose in the background
Thank you so much Earl appreciate it! 😊
Just went there today. Too bad we missed you guys.
arb air compressor (12v) from 4wheel parts so you can air down to 15psi and own those situations! Arroyo tapiado area on the south side is great too. Great vid guys -
Thanks for the tips!
Good Eats guys, Thanks for the sculpture ride a long.
Very Cool 🍻
Thanks Yooper! 🍻😊
Great video guys, looks like a fun spot to hit. We just got our new rig a few weeks ago and are super excited to have some adventures in unknown places with all the cool things to see and do!
Thanks! Sounds like some fun time ahead for you guys! Enjoy!!!😊
Finding all the sculptures at Galleta Meadows is the challenge. There's 130 of them. There are maps online to help. My favorite is the '46 Willys jeep climbing a rock with a driver and passenger having a great time.
Thats soooo many sculptures! We only saw a fraction!
You’re early. It’s going to be a good year with the desert wild flower bloom this year with the rain we’ve been getting.
I love the music in this video!!! I love boondocking too. I’ve been in an RV park since I traveled to AZ and it is comfy but ready to have some adventure.
Thanks! Yes! Time to get out! We feel ya Debbie 🤣🌵🏜️
Ditto on the music
I know that area well. I used to haul gypsum out of Ocotillo Wells and my friends and I used to visit Borrego Springs all the time. 120 Degrees F in the shade. Take a lot of water with you.
Very well done! We boondock ~75% in our ORV 26KRV as well. Especially when we are in the S.W. My highest anxiety moments are heading off road to a new spot and wondering if I'll be able to turn around. I do a lot of GOAL. (Get Out And Look). Numerous years ago I learned the hard way and had to back out for ~2 miles. Got some good experience on backing in tight areas though... Try useing plumbers grease around the seal about 3-4 x a year. It'll keep the seal good and pliable and you won't have the smell on the traveling days. Parking into the wind is a must down in that area. Yes; traveling days are tiring & stressful. With you on the Ruben ! Best ever is at Katz in NYC...
Whoa a 2 mile back up! That would have been a stressful situation for sure. Good job Herb! 👍
Those sculptures are so cool
Very fun to see for sure!!!
Very cool adventure! I can appreciate the trailer / traversing / narrow / sandy & in my present location, Minnesota, snow depth. I have a FWC, and am towing a 21’ enclosed trailer which serves as my garage. Better to walk, look and plan then to send 5 times as long extracting you rig. I had a receiver hitch mounted on the front of my Super Duty, then mounted a Warn Winch in it’s cradle. It can help in a tricky situation.
After you first night ALL was BETTER. Loved the video!
Wanted to say, enjoy your music selection on this video.
Thanks! 🎶🎵
Yes it was!
They do make FRS & GMRS walkie talkies that have GPS and you can share your location live on a map on the radio color display. Don't cost much.
👍👍 Thanks! We need to look into those.
Very nice! He couldn't put a prettier lady on display when he does for you to take a bit of your food, Chris. Thanks for sharing those sculptures.
You got that right! Thanks for watching Joe!
We had a Basenji and he was our most wild child of a dog.... New to your videos and so far 👍
They certainly can be! 🐕🤣 Thanks for watching!
The song sounds good. Love the sculptures.
😊 thanks! The sculptures were definitely worth the visit!
Ah, you weren't too far from me. I am in Palm Springs and heading to Organ Pipe Cactus NM tomorrow. Later in the spring, I will be heading to San Diego, so might be a good time to go to Borrego Springs. Those sculptures look amazing! Thanks for the video!
Very cool! Sounds like some fun trips ahead!!
Hello Chris and Aaron!! This area has always been on my radar to come see on my Palm Springs overnights (though, I'd hate to waste exploring time around Palm Springs too).
This video really hits home! Remy and I just returned from Rabbit Valley, just west of Grand Junction, Colorado. Imagine that 1st area you pulled into on this video....and it had been raining most of the day. Of course, I arrived after dark. The single lane dirt road, with berms on both sides, meandered, but traction was ok. Eventually, I reached a spot with an active, intermittent stream that had taken over the road. While backing up, at night, I reached a fairly deep dip that wasn't really great for backing the rig over. So....I became 'THAT GUY" by digging up one of the berms and doing a 3 point, back in turn around; which definitely tore up some of the limited desert vegetation. So...I just went back to the rec area parking area for the night. The next morning, I went to a different spot in the designated camping sites. I found one that was about 40 yards off the main dirt road; over that 40 yards the elevation dropped about 3 to 4 feet. I walked the spot before pulling in; only sinking in about 1-2 millimeters. When I pulled in, the truck and camper sank about 1.5 to 2 inches......and eventually, the truck and trailer slid sideways. I was stuck as heck. Fortunately, the truck could still drive after unhooking. The next day, I used the truck to pack down the area. Oh...I also pulled straight into this site due to the direction the wind was blowing (to keep the main wind off of the slide out topper). There was going to be no towing the rig out hehehehe. Several days later, during the warmth of the day, it that clay-ish material was still wet :-( So, we left at 5am so as to have a kind of frozen surface.
Borego Springs looks really cool!! Thank you for sharing your journey here, with us!!
Safe travels!
Oh wow! What a story Alan! Yes, that's exactly what I was trying to avoid! 🤣🤣 (Although, I'm sure the video would have been a hit 😉)
Yummy yummy yummy !!! Great things to look at down there and the metal objects with the different design!! As always BS & BK & BC !!
Thanks again Larry! BS & BK , BC!😊
The next time you go you must go to Fonts Point it is really spectacular. Also camping at the state park and hiking up to the oasis is really nice.
We're really kicking ourselves for not going! We were so close!
We loved coachwhip, but we camped about a 100 yards from the road, right about where you parked, haha, we stayed for a week. Bad cell coverage. Great little canyon in the back to go thru thou for a hike with the dog. Across the road is Arroyo Salida I think? Good cell and a potty and some tables, more primitive camping.
Off road fat tire ebike would be handy for checking out what's ahead on the road.
Yes! 😊
@@IreneIronTravels the Reuben is one of my favorites. Jason's Deli has a good one. I go for corn beef instead of the pastrami there. Delicious 😋
Great video! We love the Anza Borrego area - live right over the mountains to the west - Very interested to see where you go next. Blair valley is pretty nice :)
Hello thanks! We'll have to check out Blair Valley for next time!
Thank you for sharing. We will add this to our “plan to visit” list. Is that haze in the background near the mountains?
👍 Yes, it was kinda hazy when we were there at times.
We will be staying in Bullhead City next month and attending the pyrotechnics show in Lake Havasu. Worth checking out.
👍👍 Nice! We are up in Havasu now and will probably be heading back south, but if we end up staying in the area it would be something cool to see. Thanks!
Hey Aaron, good to meet you at the scorpion sculpture! I recognized your Tremor truck and thought it may be you guys. Travel safe!
Hey Chris! Yes, great to meet you as well and I hoped you would see this video! Always a fun surprise to run into someone who watches our videos out in the wild! Safe travels to you and your fam as well!
👉🚐👍🥂Happy New year!
Thanks, Happy New Year too😊 👍
Your comment about holding it down was hilarious!
🤣🤣 seemed like the appropriate thing to say!
first time viewers; nicely done.
Hey👋, and thanks for watching !
Great video~
I’m living vicariously through your awesome videos… I am still here on the farm I was born and raised on here in Pennsylvania ~ June 26 I will be 50 God willing so hey maybe I will get the courage by then to hit the road ! My year of jubilee!!
Hey Amy 👋 Happy early 50th birthday! Hope you do get out on the road! 😊
@@IreneIronTravels thanks soo much!!
It would be soo cool to run into ya’s out on the road and I could kiss sweet Loui !!🐕
Chris you look amazing in this video.
It looks like you and sweet Louie had a good time! Be careful out there!
😊 🐕 thank you!
Stumbled across your channel after my morning chores of feeding cattle and horses among other livestock we have here in western Montana. We use to live in palm desert and have family at PGAWest in la quinta , if you guys ever make it to the north reach out we have plenty of space for an RV
Sounds like a great place you have. Thanks! 😊We seem to spend a month or so every year in Palm Desert… great area.
Winter months is wonderful but summer time , Not so nice , we miss Southern California but not the masses , we are close to glacier national park
Mini Mountains - they exceed 7,000 feet and are tough to get over for private aviation. Check out the County Line Campground.
Ahhhhhhh. Thanks Neil!
The park is named for Spanish explorer Juan Bautista de Anza and the Spanish word borrego, or bighorn sheep.
Just say no to RV parks.
😊👍👍
Way cooler to boondock or go to a harvest host.
Yes! Agreed 👍 🏔️🌄🏕️
Louie is awesome! You two are pretty cool also! Love your vids.
🤣 🐕 Thanks so much Richard!!
I'm a new subscriber. You guys are great. mrDee
Glad that you didn't stay in the first location...too sandy! The purple flowers and artwork were awesome!
Yes, it worked out for the best! 😊 Beautiful area for sure! Thanks Joyce!
You guys have a great rig and i love the attitude . You guys missed Agua Caliente warm spring County of S.D. Park it's a great place the water is what you expect good for the body slite sulfer smell but very good for the skin hair ect ect muscles
We Boondock 90.0% of the time. The other 10.0% is at state and local parks and off grid. We have logged thousands of locations from the Rockies West alone…..Most every location is absolutely free
We did a day trip to Anza-Borrego several years ago and are looking forward to returning when we retire. BTW, what's that up in the pocket on your dash? Looks like your TPMS; I like the mounting bracket. Thank you!
Ah yes, a day trip just isn't enough! We hope you make it back there! Our week trip wasn't long enough for us and we'll be back as well to see more. I think it was just a weird side camera angle in our truck and that is the Furrion 7in backup camera screen that we always have up in the dash pocket. It did come with a really nice stand that fits those ford pockets perfect. I wish our TPMS had a similar bracket but it didn't come with one so it sits below in our center pocket. Harder to see for sure! I've been thinking about some double sided velcro to stick it up while towing.
@@IreneIronTravels Ah, that's why I was curious. I have the TST 507 TPMS ; the pocket makes a perfect home for the display that comes with a cradle. I upgraded to their bigger 770 display, though, and it doesn't have a cradle, So, I found a magnetic mount that attaches to the air vent and it's been working pretty well. Thank you!
Very cool area!
It really is...we'll be back! Thanks Tina😊
I dunno Chris - I think that wine might have some major rusty notes! 😆
Lol. I think they described it as notes of mineral 🤣
How about a drone for scouting down the sketchy roads?
Happy New Year. We camped in Chattanooga, TN through Jan 1st. Anyway great vid; You two love those Desert Boondocking spots; And i get it..Weather and simply no BLM lands here on the East.
When faced with high winds, what direction/position do you find works best with your trailer? Where do you like to have the wind impacting your trailer? Note: We also own a 22FQS.
We have found it’s best to park the nose directly into the wind. The worst is being broad side so the wind directly hits the patio side or slide out. The topper is noisy!
I thought we only had those days. I thought I was the only one who thinks everyone is watching me if I don’t get settled in our spot fast.
😅
🤣👀
It's always my dream---so funny. Hallmark should make an entire line of cards. Put it in 4 wheel high collection. Hello from across the highway. Hope you are having a great event but what is with this weather? End of the week it won't even get out of the fifty's. Great sculptures!
🤣 Put it in 4 wheel! Yes, the Bash is just getting started... but yeah... rain!? We thought it was going to be sunny and beautiful! Where are you staying at?
@@IreneIronTravels right across the highway on the state trust land.
Ahh yes. We saw all the RVs to the right as we drove in!
Do you have leveling jacks or stabilizing jacks or both. And what do you use when it is extremely winds?
Great fun video.
Thanks! We have just the Lippert 10k electronic leveling jacks. It’s great for easy one button set up like the fifth wheels or motor homes. Works great up to 20-30 mph winds. We might bring the slide in if it’s constant high winds or big gusts at 40-50mph.
Are those the jacks that come standard on the Titanium?
Yes. I think there called Lippert ground control 3.0 TT
@@IreneIronTravels Thanks.
For Louie, Cesar Milan (rules, boundaries, limitations)
Smart move on not going in. Many people with travel trailers under estimate this area and alot of people get stuck out here
Good to know 👍👍 Thanks!!😊
Lucky number 7 comment. Christine was talking about waiting…..you guys need to get some radios. They can be a game changer. Invest the money, get a GMRS radio license and some GMRS radios.
We should. Thanks Garret, we'll look into them!
@@IreneIronTravels The license is now $35.00 for 10 years and good for everyone in your family. Midland makes some decent, reasonably priced radios (portable and mobile). We are glad we bought them. They have definitely helped.
Oh wow, that’s very reasonable! Thanks 🙏
and the stars at night
Yes, dark sky! 🌌
Looked like you had a very good chance could have made it in with trailer in tow. But any doubt, walking was the right thing to do, a must always when off roading. Still unsure, but thinking maybe I can make it. Unhook the trailer, deflate the tires down to 30 to 25 or even 20lbs. You know how much difference 4 wheel drive high vs 2 wheel drive and then low vs 4 wheel drive high make. Deflating the tires makes that much difference as well. Especially in sand. Then drive in with the truck only. This way you will know for sure how soft or deep you sink or not and if you could make it with the trailer in tow without getting stuck.
But you should also have the following if you do not have so you can get the truck unstuck should it happen. Good traction boards such as Max Trax or similar high end traction boards. No short cuts on these. They will get you out of 75% stuck situations like this. And an on board or really good portable compressor such as a Viair or ARB for inflating the tires once your back out. Then you can go into prime spots like that with relative assurance of not getting stuck.
You guys are so cute! And brave!😂
🤣 Thanks! 😊
Anza Borrego State Park is WEST of the Salton Sea, not east.
We had the same thing with our rv and changed the toilet. One thing was the toilet was actually causing seeping between the bowl and the outside shell. Terrible design!
Yes, no fun! 🤢
Enjoyed your Anza Borrega video. I camped & rode bike in the park- & learned the story of de Anza-just to ride some of the same trail he followed when he founded San Francisco made our trip worthwhile. I put a video on it on RUclips. Search under my name & words like Anza Borrega state park.
Dy’in to find out how y’all endured the rain 🌧️ if you have stayed in Cali. 😮
We went south after this to Yuma area and it was dry and nice weather. We’re up in Lake Havasu now and it’s been raining the past two days! And cold 🥶
@@IreneIronTravels safe is good! 🙂
Does Louie wear doggie seat belt when not he's not in the crate while traveling? Do you have doggie booties for Louie for hiking?
Yes, Louie does wear a harness and is buckled in., 😊 but we haven't tried any booties for him yet!
What is the area you stayed at called?
It's called Peg Leg Monument www.campendium.com/peg-leg-camp
Check out the BLM land/ campsites at Carizzo Plain near Bakersfield. Good level of off reading challenge for your set up
Cool, thanks 👍👍
Any Californians ask about those Northerners accents? Sounds so interesting
Every once in a while we get asked about it as we travel the country. I think in Ca Most assume we are Canadian snowbirds RVing for the winter! 🤣
I forget.......... do you have walkies??
We do not..... currently using cell phones.
I liked the folksy music, who was that?
Walkie talkies?
We don’t have them…. But should probably get a pair!
Not a fan of Anza Borrego. Too barren
Not for everyone for sure! 😊
We try to park our nose facing South.
👍👍
