I upgraded from the Flip 4 because of the insane trade in values offered in the US. I don't take much video so that doesn't bother me but I found the Flip 4 video quality to be good. I use Good Lock on the Flip 4 so most apps can be used. I'm sure Samsung will optimize more apps for the Flip 5 to make the larger flex screen more usable.
I totally agree with you. Trade in value was $900 for the Flip 4 on the Flip 5. It was a no-brainer for me...

I had the flip4 I did the trade in for the 5 and paid 50bucks that was it for me
$700 trade on my S22 Ultra (2022). Made the trade asap. This will be my first flip phone, hope I won't regret it.
@Abhi-rq5ui I had the flip 3 and 4 and am currently trading for the 5.the things I like about my flip experience 1) It honestly feels so much better in my pocket.
2)I work in a factory and I listen to a lot of long format videos on RUclips wile I work and I love the fact that I use less battery by using the cover screen for RUclips and rumble using the good lock cover screen app.and it's less exposed to the elements wile it's closed.the thing I didn't like about the flip 3 and 4 was the size of the cover screen was a novelty and nearly unusable for anything other then checking notifications settings and clicking the next song on my music app.the flip 5 fixes that issue
I think the Flip5 will generally achieve better battery life due to the more efficient SD 8Gen2 as proven with the S23 series. Also the cover screen being able to do way more, nearly everything on the Flip4 cover screen required the phone to be opened.
Just preordered my Flip 5. Upgrading from a Galaxy S21 +. Brings me back to my first phone being a flip phone. In my phone carrier store earlier today I got the chance to get my hands on the device. Really liking the front cover screen. Super excited to use the widgets, especially the alarm clock at night so I don't have to go into my phone to set the times. Honestly I don't game much on my phone. I just use it for calling, texting, going on social media, listing to music I added on the phone or using spotify, and checking my emails. That's pretty much it. As cool as Samsung Dex is, I don't really need it. Hoping I get it a few days early from launch. Got my screen protector for the front cover and the official Samsung case. I'm all set!
Hey! Im still using a 4 yr old A70 and consider getting flip 5 but concerned about the hinge and plastic screen durability which looks somewhat delicate. Have you thought of getting iphpne 15 or s23 as they look good
@@jokast8861 I just got my Galaxy Z Flip 5 earlier this week. Loving it so far. The screen is actually much more durable than it's earlier models and Im also paying for an $18 protection plan with my phone carrier so if it breaks I'll get it fixed for free. It also covers replacement screen protectors. Highly recommend getting that.
I am also upgrading from S21+! Should be coming in the next few days. How do you feel about the Flip 5 so far?

I upgraded to the flip 5. To be delivered on Aug 11th. Have the flip 4 now with 256 gb storage. Samsung gave a 900 trade in. Net cost 100 for the flip 5. Also, free upgrade of 512 gb storage. Will definitely enjoy the larger front screen!
What you mean 900 trade in? If you trade your old phone they gave you 900 credit or the price of the phone will be 900 only instead of 1k
@@FevirlyMetzen They give you 900 credit, so the Flip5 ends up being 100 bucks after tax. Which is insane, sadly the Fold4 trade in for the fold5 only brings it down to 700 so I'm not upgrading.

I'm interested in one, I think the folding screen works for those quick times when you want to film yourself but don't have a tripod. Which is really valuable in skateboarding.
For my use case as a flip 4 owner, i don't think i'll be upgrading UNLESS they massively improve on the battery life. Bigger cover screen looks enticing but i'd rather have a huge upgrade instead of few tweaks here and there. I do have to admit after using flip phones i don't think i can move back to using regular phones. It's so much fun.
I had to.. it was $50 with no tax for me... Ordered 3 of them. Samsung gets me upgrade every year because of the great deals

i have the flip 3 atm and i didnt buy the flip 4 cause it felt the same as the flip 3. but m def getting the flip 5.. looks so good.
Upgraded from the Flip 3 and I cannot wait. The new cover display is the biggest selling point, I want to be able to text back without opening the phone. On top of that with my trade in it only cost me $300.
I've had my Flip 4 (and s23 ultra for my other line) for just about 4 months. I'm typing this on the Flip 4 right now. I guess I'm unusual in a few things that do NOT bother me about the 4.
1. The crease? From a tactile standpoint, there's something appealing for me about running my thumb across the crease. I have zero issues with the crease. I also instinctively adjust my viewing angle if I'm seeing the crease while watching something. I, often confuse which phone I'm using.
2. The gap: I have a few nice covers for it, and I've never wanted for less gap. It's a non-thing for me.
3. Battery - Never had an issue. Tops off so fast that I've never run out.
4. Its light weight and slightly smaller dimensions (unfolded) make me tend to grab it off the table more than my Ultra. If I know I need more battery and will be taking important pictures, I'll grab my Ultra.
Oh, and my Flip 5 will arrive in two days. The trade-in was too good to resist.
this phone needs a day in the life video for a battery test. ive already preordered so that would be a great video to have .
With my Flip 4, when there is literally nothing to do at work and I am on my phone for a good 5-6 hours, I return home (also using Android Autio wirelessly, with always on display) with about 35-40% battery. I wouldn't worry too much about battery life.

I got a flip 5 as my first flip phone coming from a n s21u. It's a mixture of downgrades and upgrades that I'm fine with overall. From the vid though I believe the screen is 22:9, as that's the option in full screen camera mode and good lock let's you put anything on the cover screen, which has saved the day for getting things like my shopping list on the cover screen etc. Good stuff

Haven't had a flip before, but with the $400 they gave me for my current S20 FE 5G, plus the $200 off of a Watch 6 classic (been wanting to upgrade my gear s3 for a while now), I figured what the heck... no-one else will likely give me that much for my old phone :). Worst case, if I don't like the flip form factor, It'll probably be worth enough as an upgrade to whatever is next (pixel 8?).

Welcome to the upgraded retrolyfe. Haha. So missed all my flip phones. I miss my old school lg lotus music phone. Reminds me of that phone.
I went for the upgrade, from my Flip 4, because of the large trade in credit. At the very least, even if there were no changes, I am getting a brand new unused screen for a net of a hundred bucks! (This is why I also traded in my Flip 3 for a Flip 4 last year!). The bigger cover screen, and any other improvements, are an added plus. As for the cameras, 98% of the pictures, and the very few videos, that I take are of my dog and they have always come out great on all my phones. So yes, this upgrade was a no brainer for me.
I'm getting the Flip 5, and I'm keeping my S23 as well. What was your battery life like on the Flip 4?

@@thullraven1 I get a full day out of my Flip 4 and only charge it once a day. I also have the 85% battery saver cap set. That said, I am more of a "medium user" as opposed to a power user.

Thanks for the video. For me, Good Lock is the game saver as far as I am concerned. I was concerned that the Flip 5 would NOT be able to handle all apps on the outside display like the Motorola Razr plus.....but it does with Good Lock and Multistar. This feature essentially make this a 2 in 1 phone. Without this feature I would have bought the Razr Plus.
I wished Samsung offered the insane trade in value for the flip 4 outside the US too. I kinda envy them, if I lived in the US, I could the Flip 5 just for a hundred bucks, yet I'd have to pay 800€ here in europe :/

Manufacturers say their stuff is recyclable, and almost everything is made with recyclable materials, but cell phones, especially the lithium ion batteries, end up in a landfill. They are too expensive to recycle, especially (again) the lithium ion batteries.

I've had the fold 3 since new, I have still never felt the need to upgrade for what I do (mainly watching videos when travelling). Howver for work I recently bought the Flip 4 and immediately upgraded to the 5 (due to the launch offer). I have no regrets.
Just upgraded to the Flip5, and I am excited to get it! I traded in my old Note 20 Ultra and my carrier gave me $1,000 for it so I pretty much got the Flip5 for free. I am currently using the S23 ultra but will be keeping that as my backup just in case I don't like the Flip5

What condition was your 20 Ultra in? I'm about to go trade in and have 2 minor screen blemishes and I'm not sure my trade in value.

Went by a retailer in order to take a look at them in person. The crease is barely noticeable on the flip 5 but the fold 5 is just tooo noticeable. I couldnt watch a movie on it without hurting my eyes due to the glare.
So i ordered the flip 5 despite being a Pixel fanboi. Left Samsung as soon as Pixel came out due to Google's software experience. However with a Pixel 7 pro with tensor they have started the decline. It is just laggy and hot. Sadly. The Flip is going to be a cool ride with testing and im going to use it as my wear and tear phone while ill use the Pixel for camera and video.
Do you think theyll fix the foto and video with software updates on the flip?

What phones don't have wireless charging that would make it a selling point?
Love the idea of having a flip phone. However until they can improve battery life, water and dust resistance, put the same camera set up as their Flagships i will be sticking to those.
I have to say the dust resistance is reasonable though, I mean its a folding phone, I'm not sure how they would get any major dust resistance with such a hinge.
100% for over $1k these are just a gimmick and all hype until. I'll keep a regular flashing phone until These are actually worth getting.
Mine's already pre-ordered My son's is already pre-ordered we've had the flip three four and I will have the five like you said there's little upgrades but me personally from the samples that you had I think the video was a little cleaner but that's just you know my opinion
I think he's looking at it from a pro use. For the average user it will probably be fine.
I preordered one using the Trade In offer last night. Here in Canada, I got 700$ of trade value for my current Z Flip 3 5G, bringing the cost of the new phone down to 600$, which is a very good price.
Also, I do Construction for a living which means Im wearing a saftey vest or coveralls almost every day. The form factor of the Flip series means it fits perfectly into any chest pocket and still lets me velcro the pocket shut, plus this new hinge design will prevent more dust and rocks from getting into the hinge in the first place. That small size alone has made me fall in love with my Flip 3, so the comparatively better hinge, bigger outside display, bigger battery, and brighter display are all very relevent features I will be using every single day.
After trade-in and extra $50 off I’m getting both the flip 5 in lavender and buds pro for $117. Best Buy is selling the buds pro for $180 rn. Can’t wait for my new phone
My favorite part if the review was the high bitrate video comparison of a completely stationary shot of lone camera sitting on a desk. Truly the best way to show the difference in high and low bitrates.

Have the flip 3 and I like it but never thought the 4 was a big enough upgrade. 3 -> 5 seems like a large upgrade so I've preordered it now.

I hope that I can tolerate the camera on the flip 5. It took a moment to get used to the flip 4, but hearing that the quality went down is somewhat of a bummer. I did go ahead and upgrade because in my case I was able to get it for under $50.

I had the flip 4 and switched to a Pixel. I miss flipping but a bigger front screen is not enough for me to go back. I knew they were not gonna improve battery nor the cameras so there is no point. I'll wait till the next generation. Also, we really need to change from pastel colors.

We have to give samsung credit for giving great upgrade deals where i believe you should upgrade everything year until they start mastering the hinge. I paid 100 for a broken flip 4 thru insurance claim and 100 for the upgrade to the galaxy z flip 5. The only thing is that you must take advantage of these great deals before the phone officially comes out. I hope this makes some of yaw decision making better. I also had an issue with each flip I got because of the hinge.
Where are these deals? In my country (south Europe) it's 100 euros for trading in an s23 ... clowns
Absolutely love the innovation of the Samsun phones. I’ll eventually upgrade to a flip phone.
It's weird back in the 90's i wasn't a fan of flip phones mainly since everyone had them but now that they're much more advanced tech i've actually convinced myself to order one.They offer a lot of cool features nothing else does and i'm fed up with phones just being massive slabs this gives the option of a big screen with it still being able to fit in your pocket and be used with one hand that for me is important. Cameras aren't something i use often so they don't need to be the best and i'm sure i'll get used to the crease over time.
I currently own an S22 Ultra, and ordered a Flip 5. Gotta say I´m concerned that I might have made a mistake. My main driver is the idea of carrying around a smaller phone, instead of a brick like the S22, but I really really like the cameras in it. Not sure if I´ll get used to such a camera downgrade. I wish I could find reviews from people who also went from S22 Ultra to Flip 5.

I think if you get the Pre Order trade in deal from Samsung which I am looking at doing, you can get the 512GB version for $600!!Trading in my 128GB ZFlip3 cause it now has a line on the crease, and even an option to finance for $20/month for 2years if your accepted. Coming from a Zflip3 user i think this deal is great and worth it as an upgrade. Probably making the upgrade sometime soon here...

As a flip 3 user I've made it go through the works. I shoved it snow to angle a light, I've dropped it on concrete at standing height 4 times, and threw it in a shallow pool for science. This was two years ago. Don't do as I did but it's still my main driver 😂

No issues with the durability but have the screen protector charged.
Screen protector is a piece of cake to change with the flip 4, I changed my own with a ringke and it's perfect. But I'm not convinced with the flip 3 and 4 hinge. I had both and both have failed to open to 180 after about a year. Both were fixed under warranty. I'm hoping the flip 5's redesign will fix this problem. If you get a flip def make sure it has proper warranty

Even tho the Flip 5 looks amazing! I did go with the Motorola Razr ultra in magenta. And can say I am not disappointed in my decision! The battery has lasted me way over a day and just keeps getting better and better as I use it, which has been less than a week. I have to say tho, the crease in the Moto is definitely less pronounced. Again both phones I imagine are worth getting. It's just a matter of preference. I'm switching over from the OnePlus 7 pro ( which I love!) Felt that OnePlus and Motorola are similar with their IU's functions. The hinge is super, strong durable and great flexibility, and your choice of how many apps you can put on the small screen is amazing. Just last night i ordered my Lyft through the small screen. Which The flip does not support yet. Not trying to steal the thunder from Samsung, just stating my opinions on my purchase. Thank you for the great video!
RAZR+ is a legit phone but I returned mine. A few niggles - While the external screen is fully functional it's not very customizeable and looks a bit odd to me and the cameras get in the way. Phone does not support always on display - Cameras were a let down - phone was laggy at times and it's brand new. Main screen was great but over time durability was a concern with how light and airy the device felt. Have the Flip 5 coming due to crazy trade in offers. Maybe next year we can get 12GB/Ram and better cameras -0:03 0:03

Tomorrow I go to my local provider to preorder one... It'll have some drawbacks (no apple pay, less battery and camera etc) but i will give it a go. Great video!

I might upgrade as I have the flip 3 I've already had the screen protector bubble up and replaced by samsung as it was still in warranty but it's happened again do you know if the 5 screen protector is any better or will it be wait and see I was going to wait for the flip 6 but because I will have to replace the screen protector again I think its time to change. I actually wanted the Razr 40 (Plus, in the US), but T-Mobile was offering only $250 trade in value for my old Galaxy S10e to get the Razr and they doubled it to $500 to get the Flip 5, so I pre-ordered the Flip 5. I'm currently using the Galaxy S23 as my main phone and get to keep that as well.

I just pre ordered the Flip 5. I heard good things and bad things about it. But I figured I need to test that myself before saying I don't want it. I heard the camera isn't good on it. and the crease that folds up cracks after so long. That's really only thing I am worried about. I am a picture person. I love taking pictures on my phone. so hoping its not to bad.
Just ordered mine to upgrade from z3 flip. Trade in z3 and £38 a month (£10 cheaper than what I'm paying) and 512gb. Cant wait 👍
Definitely want a flip phone, but disappointed that the camera isn't any better than my phone from like.... 4 years ago. And the crease really needs to be much smoother. Also the screen is easily scratch able. Maybe if these things are improved I will get a flip 6 next year.
I just got a "PHAT" trade in on Samsung. The Flip 5 cost me 99 bucks w/ a flip4 trade in and that Flip5 gets pumped up to 512gb. Totally worth it.
@ 8:33 - with the flip 5 phone, you mentioned that the subject /person can see you when you take a photo of them - is there a button that turns that screen off? I don't want the subject to know that I am taking a phone as like in most smart phones.

If the exchange deals were as good everywhere else in the world as it appears to be in the US then it might be worth it. The cover screen is plus, but given the £650 odd cost after trade in... If I had the US exchange offers then it'd be a no-brainer. That is if the battery life is proven to be on par, or better, with that large coverscreen.
I definitely want to get a z flip my s22 ultra is just to big for me I got it for the s pen to which I don't even use now well rarely so excited to get the z flip 5 this month

Does the cover screen heat up when using an amount of time? I am using the Z Flip 3 and this is my concern.
My biggest reason to buy this is tht my hands r small and honestly i dont remember any phone tht i didnt dropped or struggled to handle in single hand so definitely would be fun for me and also the customization im a person who customise allot so it would be fun for me lol

I'm a simple girl. I don't engage in intense gaming as I prefer using my PS5 for that. My interests lie in calling, texting, and watching RUclips and other media. While I won't be using the front screen for Netflix, I do appreciate the convenience of easier texting. I'm looking forward to the simplicity of using the front screen for quick tasks instead of getting lost in RUclips shorts for extended periods when I open the phone. What I love about this phone is that it offers the best of both worlds: a small little phone for quick tasks and a beautiful large AMOLED Samsung-tuned screen for enjoying media content.

This is my experience. With my Flip 4, when there is literally nothing to do at work and I am on my phone for a good 5-6 hours, I return home (also using Android Auto wirelessly, with always on display) with about 35-40% battery. I wouldn't worry too much about battery life.
I think they are looking to make more money by leaving many improvments in the flip 5 for them to make a new flip phone. I don't know that's just what I thought. 😅
I ordered the Fold5. I like the option of a larger screen to watch TV and movies while I'm away from home. And the S-pen is a must. And Samsung is offering about $800 trade in for my Note 20 Ultra 5g. Which is only ~$50 less than I paid for it (used) originally 2 years ago. The battery is not what it used to be, no more Android upgrades, not long before no security updates. I'd be stupid *not* to take that deal.
I still HATE they they don't put SD card slots in anymore, but... not like we have a choice anymore. That ship sailed a looooong time ago. It was the only thing keeping me from buying the Google Pixel several years ago. But sadly, I can't really hold out much longer. Fewer and fewer good phones are including the thing anymore. Won't be much longer before none of them do. So it's either hold out a few more years and finally cave when there's literally no choice anymore, or just cave now. So I did :P

@@Abhi-rq5ui Honestly, nothing important really. I could live without it if I absolutely *had* to but I got used to using it on my Note 20. I mostly use it to write, well... notes. lol But sometimes I use it to draw. Though because of the (relatively) small screen, I don't draw with it very often. Another advantage of the Fold5. Much larger drawing space. And the pen is only about $80 (or $120 with the case.) So I figure, why not? It's basically just a toy. I may not use it for a lot of things, but over the life of the phone, I'll certainly get my money's worth.
That is so crazy, you get almost $800 for a 3 year old phone, meanwhile, I just checked for fun, I get around $350 for my 1 year old S22+ 256gb via Samsung trade in. It's ridiculus how it can be so different from Samsung in Sweden to Samsung in US. Outrageous, we never get those crazy trade in deals here. Ontop of that the tech products here have 25% tax on them so that increases the prices even further. It's not cheap buying phones or tech in Sweden lol
Currently there's a 1500SEK ($143) additional discount for trade in and free storage upgrade if you preorder the new fold 5 and flip 5. But still it doesnt even come close to the deals you get for trading in.

And this is in Australia. It's not usually so cheap here either. We usually get gouged with the excuse that they need to pay to import the stuff they sell. A big company like Samsung or Apple can certainly import thousands of phones much cheaper (per unit) than I could just importing one single unit, or so you'd think. So either they pay more for bulk shipping or they're lying. Guess which one is the more likely :P
But thankfully not this time. It cost $2014 for the Fold5 after the trade in deal. I checked the US site and they only offered me $400 trade in for the same phone including the bonus. With that trade in, the Fold5 costs $1767usd which converts to $2657aud. And even better, Australia gets 1 year of Samsung care for free (or two years for the price of one.) So yeah, something magical happened. Australia gets a much much better deal than the US for once :P

I am so unimpressed with my Flip4 I wouldn't get a Flip5. The upgrades don't sound worth another try. The short battery life is really annoying. I am not impressed with the photos - I don't find them that crisp or sharp. I could feel and see the crease where the screen material crackled in the first six months I think. I can really see the crease which is now dark. I also have multiple problems sending photos and, for some reason, I can only fix it by turning Airplane Mode on and off and then restarting my phone even after emptying every single last cache on earth. I love the size of the phone a lot but that is about it for me. Hopefully, I am one of a rare number of people who has had these problems and disappointment with this phone. Now I don't know what phone to buy!
I have a question, should I get the samsung z flip 5 or wait for the iPhone 15? Because I never had a flagship phone and only been using A series samsungs my whole life and don't know which to get

At least make the internal one an under display camera like the Fold model. It is useful to have for more businessy things, and then I personally think it is okay to sacrifice some video quality on it.

I have the fold4, and was awaiting the 5 for one main reason...I want to film 4K standard horizontal video footage using outer screen to preview. On the 4, the phone did not adjust and you had to film with a vertical preview of a horizontal result. It was useless. Are you saying now that you can film and preview horizontal it drops to 1080? This seems madness.
i’m an iphone user since decades and this was the phone that made me consider changing to android. after watching almost everything on the internet, asking also regular people, seeing their videos online, reading comments, i’m a bit hesitant. mostly because i’ve heard bad things about the battery life and videos don’t look great on this. unfortunately if any influencer does reviews like this, there’s no way to really know if they’re sponsored or biased even a little bit 😢
