The 'magical battery' is why the EV market got disrupted a year or so ago. The news made it seem eminent, so a lot of peeps figured they would just wait a little while for it.
Toyota's first engine called the Type A engine was a copy of a Chevy 207 engine. Even Japan's Sushi was originated in China. History tells Japan is not a nation of innovation but a nation of adaptation.
Japan is a nation of copying and refinement. They're the masters of refining something already existing but not creating something new.
That's a fact. However, the world's first EV equipped with a lithium-ion battery was developed by Nissan and Sony, but the vehicle was expensive and did not become popular in Japan.
Then Toyota created a hybrid car.
Also, a Chinese battery company called CATL is an independent company from a Japanese subsidiary called TDK.
China has a larger population but less innovation.
@@user-kt6ct5jc9p Thank you for your acknowlegment but there are many false statements in your reply. I stand on my statement that Japan is not a nation of innovation but a nation of adaptation.
First EVs were invented in Europe in the late 1800s and Lithium Ion battery was developed by Exxon in 1970s. All Japan did was put two already existing inventions together.
First Hybrid car was invented by Porsche in the early 1900s. All toyota did was make a modern version of it.
CATL is a Chinese Battery Company which TDK (Japanese) acquired 15% stake in the company.
China has the largest Population in Asia and has the longest history in East Asia. Historically, China has invented much and changed the world with its inventions and influence. For example, Gun Powder was invented in China which changed the world and Kanji was invented China and changed Japan as Chinese taught the Japanese how to write.
@@goldmountain206 You are making a huge mistake.
The Chinese characters were not created by modern Chinese, but by the founders of the Shang Dynasty, who lived along the Yellow River in ancient times.
The Yamato people came to the Japanese archipelago around the 3rd century, and they had already been using kanji since then.
Gunpowder was invented by the Xianbei people, not the Han people.
EVs that use lithium-ion batteries and electric cars are different things. Electric cars were first introduced in Europe and the United States over 100 years ago, and have been popular in Japan.
Moreover, Japanese people invented lithium-ion batteries, Japanese designers were involved in creating Intel's first CPU, Japanese people designed NAND flash memory, and Japanese people created notebook computers. Tano is also Japanese.
The CEO of CATL is a company created by a Chinese person that is independent from a Japanese company, and most of the technology is from Japanese companies.
The Chinese simply stole from other peoples who lived in China and made it their own.
@@goldmountain206 In Japan, this is called thief.
China is stealing from businesses all over the world.
Feel free to imitate, but please don't steal.
Chinese people are the biggest consumers of Japanese anime and adult videos without paying.
Please reflect on yourself and grow into a proper person.
Most of the Han Chinese fled to Fujian, Guangdong, and Sichuan provinces in southern China around the 3rd century, where they intermingled with the local people.
The people living in North China today are the Xianbei, Mongol, Manchu, Qiang, and Uyghur peoples.
Toyota is smart, gives the buyers what they want. There's a waiting list for their hybrids, trucks/SUV's are selling above MSRP and their used cars have minimal depreciation. Its the business model that EV manufacturers should aspire too.

If these company's were taking EV's seriously they would develop a competitive platform and then start improving it.
GM, Ford and Tesla have finally admitted they do not want to be battery development companies and are licensing the technology from CTAL. This allows them to focus on the platform.
I hope the US can develop a better , cheaper, battery then the Chinese but if you don't get into the market now, you may never get in. Don't make the perfect battery the enemy of the good battery.
I‘d like to charge my battery once a year
What a good idea… if you used 25kWh per day, you would need your cars’ battery to store 9125kWh for a year’s worth of driving.
That’s 33 GigaJoules of energy. One tonne of TNT has an energy of 4.18 GigaJoules, so your car would have the equivalent energy of almost 8 tonnes of TNT. That’s enough to destroy a battleship or a small town.
Fun!
I’d like to win the Powerball Jackpot. You’ve better off getting an ICE and towing a 2500 gal tank of gasoline.
“The amount of CO2 in the atmosphere today is comparable to where it was around 4.3 million years ago during the mid-Pliocene epoch,” the NOAA report found. That was when the “sea level was about 75 feet higher than today” and “large forests occupied areas of the Arctic that are now tundra.” Last year, humans spewed some 36.6 billion tons of CO2 into the atmosphere, the most ever. That number may well be higher this year. The concentration of carbon dioxide in the atmosphere is now more than 50 percent higher than it was before the industrial revolution. It’s no secret where all this carbon dioxide is coming from. The burning of oil, coal and gas is the main source of CO2 emissions, and the use and production of fossil fuels continues to rise around the world, with the United States producing more oil and gas than ever before.
The planet will get on just fine with higher temperatures, Western civilisation (as we know it) may not cope so well.
Who uses 3/4 the oil to produce double the CO2? That's where you need evs that don't run on coal.
The textbook definition of Global Warming was the earth getting a little cooler when I was in school. We was just moving from the coming ice age to the hole on ozone layer scare. If earth gets warmer, we dodged the ice age. Think about that, there will always be a new scare
I totally agree that the new high power LFP batteries are the best bet for the near future. Both for pure EVs and PHEVs.
For the latter, why doesn’t any company make one with a decent battery range? 50km of electric driving seems to be the max available, which is useless. We need a PHEV which can do at least 100km on pure electric, so that it can cover most people’s daily driving needs. That could be done with a 20kWh battery, 1/3rd the size and weight of a Tesla Model 3 pack. Couple that with a small, efficient sub-100hp engine, and you’ve got the equivalent of 200hp for motorway driving and no range anxiety. With a series hybrid approach, using hub motors, you’ve got no axles, no driveshaft, no gearbox. Weight could be 1200kg or less. I’ve done the math on this, and it works beautifully, but not a single car company is making anything close! Why?
You make an excellent point that has dominated my thoughts for years. BMW was on the right path with the i3!!! They just needed to install a 25Kwh battery. The Nissan Leaf with a Micra engine as backup would have been fantastic. Actually any PHEV with a 20Kwh LFP pack would be viable imo. But I do think that a little Tesla is the very best solution and I'm excited for it's arrival.
Pretty sure Toyota has always said that their solid-state batteries would be 2028 at the earliest, 2030 more likely.
Solid State batteries remind me of the Wankel rotary engine saga. They are better in theory, but the existing technology continues to improve at a faster rate. As a result when the “better” technology finally comes out, the more traditional technology has surpassed it due to iterative improvements.
Not sure how these companies think they know better than Tesla. Yet the smartest minds desire employment at Tesla. Doesn't add up. Why is it that the Chinese are so excited about copying Tesla? I think it's bc they are smart.
Holy crap, Toyota’s share price has doubled in the last 12 months. How can it be?
Sometimes a tree will put out massive amounts of seeds or fruit in an effort to reproduce just before it dies. Now I’m not saying Toyota will die, but if they continue down the same path they will be a shadow of what they are today.
Because there's a sucker born every minute. And you're obviously in the queue. Please take all of your money and invest it in Toyota and then report back to us in 5 years in terms of how you're doing

There are good technical reasons to think a solid state battery, like hydrogen propulsion is not such a good idea for motor vehicles. The main advantage of polymer batteries is that they can flex and bend so are better able to absorb shock and vibration. A solid state battery would need a strong case and shock mounting to prevent cracking. In a mobile setting this would likely offset any advantages. Solid state batteries seem likely better suited to stationary applications.
Is jello a solid?
It’s looking like solid state is going to be great for small devices in the future like smartphones.

What's the range on top model? $32K model 3 on time? The same Tesla stuff gets announced over and over but this comment will disappear, like their release dates.
I would think CATL or Tesla would be using SS batteries if they were cost-effective.
oh what an unexpected turn of events. 🤷♂
Current battery packs have i high carbon footprint due to the synthetic graphite. This needs to change.
Even if the battery was pure graphite, a pickup truck would burn more carbon based fuel in a few hundred miles.
At this rate Toyota's magical battery technology will be viewed in the same time horizon as micro fission reactor, room temperature super conductor, and Star Trek transporter. One day they might magically appear to save the human race 🎉
Probably we will get those three before the Toyota comes out with a solid state battery.
Every car company has serious problems and they are all having to lie because false information has been accepted as fact. The usage of the ICE or electric motors in transport is going to hit a wall that is going to require a reality check. Producing cars that can use both technologies is the best way to survive and it is also very practical.
