He did. He had kissed a woman. And he had kissed her long and good. We got banned from the pool forever that day. When this tune was first played in Philadelphia back in 1959, a local DJ on WDAS, Georgie Woods played it about 10 times in a row. He was was stunned by the Drifters performance. I agreed . The tympani drums, the strings, the haunting plaintive chanting of Ben E King was something I had never heard before in my 15 years. I feel the same today approaching my 80th birthday.

the FIRST R&B song that including strings on it... those orchestration arrangements were done by Music Arranger. Stanley Applebaum. he also did those beautiful orchestration/string arrangements on, STAND BY ME, SAVE THE LAST DANCE, THIS MAGIC MOMENT. and other BIG hits in the 50's and 60's. Music Arrangers have NEVER really gotten there due, in the history of the music business/what they bring, like the music producer. can make or break a record. here a salute, Stanley Applebaum. a TOP Music Arranger of HIS day.

This song was a real tear jerker at the time......I thought I was really in love with this little girl of 16.... They were transferred to a far away place.... I was devastated ....till the next month, I met another love.
For some reason thought you only fell in love once, not true.....If your lucky, the best one is always the first. If not .......we must move on....
Thanks for this really great post......
