I was 5 years old when this song came out. The lady next door had several teenage sons and a teenage daughter and two younger sons. She babysat me and I remember the boys playing all the popular music and teaching me to dance. Since I was so short they placed me on top of the forbidden coffee table that was glass topped with a display of navy knots. Every time they heard their mother they took me off the coffee table. Of course I never gave them away. When I hear 1960's songs I love the music and remember the coffee table with Steve and Ray. Thank you guys!!!!!

@@andrew_koala2974 This is not just some country, this is the USA where this song was born. Here a woman is referred to as Miss if you don’t know her status.
You never know how much you'll be affected by seeing one of the figures of your youth pass, but this one really hit me. I was listening to Eddie Money's 'Take Me Home Tonight' on the radio in the last week and thinking what a cool tribute it was to Ronnie. I was really taking in the different pieces she sang in the song, wondering if she voiced her parts in the studio while the rest of the song was being tracked - just really listening to it. She was *so* cool. This song was so perfectly in the groove of what was happening when it was released. Man, I hate to hear this!
Brian Wilson said he had listened to this song more than 1000 times & the first time he heard it 50 years ago in the car he had to pull over & listen to all the instruments. When he was able to reproduce them he said he then knew how to produce a record. He says it’s the best record ever produced. He stopped trying to top it because he said he couldn’t.
Just like Michael Jackson topped a lot of legends that I know of also..If I can get beat by the best I like to admit I got beat by the best. I love Prince and Mozart also because of their memory.
Apparently this song was the template or inspired the Beach Boys song Don't Worry Baby. But Brian did produce two great songs in I Get Around and California Girls which are close to perfection like this song
Hello, i am 12 years old, this song brings me Joy because it was my grandmothers favorite song. She sadly passed away last christmas, i will forever cherish this song
It’s not often commented on, but Hal Blaine’s simple, precise drumming really sets the tone and helps make the song. RIP, Hal Blaine, one of the great drummers of the rock era.
The drums are very loud and present in the mix, yet it sounds great because a) he listened well, b) he was really aiming to suit the music (didn't just do his personal style every time like many drummers do), and c) his judgements about WHAT would suit the music were usually spot-on. I was going to say Hal Blaine kind of made this song what it is, which is somewhat true, but then I realized that one of the best things about this song is that EVERYBODY on this recording nailed it and they ALL deserve that same credit. Doesn't happen every day.
This song is perfection and Hal’s drumming is sublime. I love how he opens up on the outro. The echo chamber, heard so greatly on the snare on the breakdown, just melts my brain when hearing it.
This song changed pop music forever! Brian Wilson was basically obsessed with it (Don't Worry Baby was a response to Be My Baby according to him) and the rest is history.
This was the song that my whole family walked into my grandads funeral it holds so many memories from being my grandma's favorite song to being my grandparents wedding song to me now 13 and already certain that I want to walk down the Isle (whenever I do) to this song

There’s something about the way she sings “Be my baby now” that just sends chills down my spine. I’m honestly surprise nobody on here is talking about the diction and tone that she used. Because it pairs hauntingly with this wall of sound beat. Tbh I’m not even sure if it is even classified as singing on that particular note. It’s more of a melancholic wail. Like she is truly yearning for whoever this guy is to just be hers. Which is given more effect and power with the vintage production.
If you really want to listen to something spine-chilling, listen to anything by Al Bowlly, the grain, the cadence, the wear and tear, and the premise of some of his songs make for a great spooky song.
One of the greatest songs of all time. A masterpiece and instantly have images of the 60s in my mind. I was born in the 80s and have such a nostalgia for the 60s.
Brings me to tears after all these years...too... just background music to my teenage years at the time... on and off the radio mostly... and now I recently heard it and realize with amazement that the voices, music, chorus, arrangements and all are an absolute masterpiece with all their nuance, passionate emphasis, and subtleties.
@@larrytischler570 Why not just savor your enjoyment? What does denigrating someone else’s musical preferences add to to what you love? NOTHING. BTW, “breath” rhymes with “death”, not the word you thought you were writing. Y’know, the one that rhymes with “peeve”.
Man, 2022 is barely 2 weeks old and we've lost Sidney Poitier, Dwayne Hickman, Peter Bogdanovich, Bob Saget , and Max Julien. Now, Ronnie Spector has checked out. No-one gets close to the great Hal Blaine, imho. Earl Palmer, perhaps.....
B. Perdy?
@@joeoak8181 there are plenty in the same echelon (Colaiuta, Gadd, Liebezeit, Bruford) but yeah Blaine was a god.
Amen kick butt!
Jim Keltner and Hal Blaine are the studs of the 60s and 70s
The more we mix the more Beautiful we will be: Brazil!
RIP - Ronnie Spector
I was 18 years old and I was in the recording studio when Phil Spector recorded this spectacular masterpiece recording of our time and fell in love immediately with all three of The Ronettes. RONNIE Will always be remembered of this awesome gril group... WE WILL MISS YOU! You were part of my music life. - Billy Amato a/k/a Billy Smith (The Rascals). 🙏
Amazing!!!!
What a thrill & a great memory
What an amazing experience! Lucky you!
OMG you're "that Billy" ?!! Wow what a great story; I appreciate it !!

The night we met I knew I needed you so
And if I had the chance I'd never let you go
So won't you say you love me
I'll make you so proud of me
We'll make 'em turn their heads every place we go
So won't you, please, be my, be my baby
Be my little baby, my one and only baby
Say you'll be my darlin', be my, be my baby
Be my baby now, my one and only baby
Wha oh oh oh
I'll make you happy, baby, just wait and see
For every kiss you give me I'll give you three
Oh, since the day I saw you
I have been waiting for you
You know I will adore you 'til eternity
So won't you, please, be my, be my baby
Be my little baby, my one and only baby

You never know how much you'll be affected by seeing one of the figures of your youth pass, but this one really hit me. I was listening to Eddie Money's 'Take Me Home Tonight' on the radio in the last week and thinking what a cool tribute it was to Ronnie. I was really taking in the different pieces she sang in the song, wondering if she voiced her parts in the studio while the rest of the song was being tracked - just really listening to it.
She was *so* cool. This song was so perfectly in the groove of what was happening when it was released. Man, I hate to hear this!
I never knew that! I love that song even more now. Thank you. :)
That's another iconic song featuring Ronnie Spector. RIP
She was one of a kind.
And now they’re both gone, Eddie and Ronnie.
@@richardscribner3254 Sad. I knew Eddie Money. I worked with his girlfriend in the early 70s.
I would argue The Beach Boys have a Spector vibe!
Just like Michael Jackson topped a lot of legends that I know of also..If I can get beat by the best I like to admit I got beat by the best. I love Prince and Mozart also because of their memory.
I know I beat a certain hacker..
The drummer Hal blain was the studio drummer for beach boys pet sounds
Apparently this song was the template or inspired the Beach Boys song Don't Worry Baby. But Brian did produce two great songs in I Get Around and California Girls which are close to perfection like this song
My crush just dedicated this song to me, I feel so honored🙈

Ronnie Spector's voice backed by The Wrecking Crew doesn't get better. Brings tears to my eyes when I hear this and know that she's passed....RIP.
I loved the Ronettes when I was 5. Still love them 50 years later ❤️
so if this was in 1963, you'd be born in 1958
Idk if this is weird :-)
I’m way too addicted to this song 🥶
You’re not a Brian Wilson level yet. You have a ways to go like we all do lol
@@mumbles215 Not at Brian's level... but maybe soon!
Then he got obsessed with “shortening bread” or “ding dang”. Hahah.
The 60s: Some of the best music by some of the best musicians - of all time. Rest in Peace, Ronnie Spector.
ABSOLUTELY :)

The 1st half of the 60s music was heaven.
Which is given more effect and power with the vintage production.
because it's real. She's singing what she is feeling. It's raw. It's authentic. I'm glad she got away from that man
Here here
If you really want to listen to something spine-chilling, listen to anything by Al Bowlly, the grain, the cadence, the wear and tear, and the premise of some of his songs make for a great spooky song.
The way she sticks that mic out and nods.
Very well said
Two minutes and forty-two seconds of sheer perfection. Just magic! RIP Ronnie. 😇
Rest easy, Ronnie. This song will forever be an iconic masterpiece of the 60s. May your legacy in music live on forever.

You see, the original recordings were just wonderful. NEWER VERSIONS SHOW THESE LADIES DID A GOOD JOB.
Me too, Susan Lynn!

Man, 2022 is barely 2 weeks old and we've lost Sidney Poitier, Dwayne Hickman, Peter Bogdanovich, Bob Saget , and Max Julien. Now, Ronnie Spector has checked out.
