The eight-hour drama follows Victoria (Jenna Coleman) from the time she becomes Queen in 1837 at the age of 18 through her relationship with Lord Melbourne (Rufus Sewell), her first prime minister and intimate friend, and her courtship and marriage to Prince Albert (Tom Hughes). Famous for her candor and spirit, she was the first woman who seemed to have it all: a passionate marriage, nine children and the job of being queen of the world’s most important nation. Her often tumultuous reign lasted for 63 years.

Of course you can't change history, unless the story is intentionally meant to be fictional, but these two Rufus Sewell and Jenna Coleman) are so attractive, it is not impossible to imagine that the young Queen had romantic feelings for her Prime Minister.

Yup. To be honest, as much as I enjoyed this storyline on the show (it was kind of a guilty pleasure, I guess), I am still skeptical as to whether Victoria was in love with Melbourne in real life. While he was certainly important to her, 40 years is a lot.

Downton was great, but this takes place a hundred years before that. Even with the Melbourne discrepancy, and probably others around Vic and Albert, the history is fascinating!

I know about relationship of film director and his colleague. They were 40 years apart. And they were happy together for another 30 years. He lived to 103 I think.

Agnieszka Aksamit You're right! I noticed that too- I'm pretty sure it was just after effects

Agnieszka Aksamit Yes I noticed those too. Even regular contacts take me out of a period movie for a minute when you see them on the actors eyes. It's that the continuity is broken. It's the same with a missed editing issue in a film, though I saw none of those here.
