Hannah Paley well said here’s a bit of trivia in Australia we have a state named after her Victoria guess what it’s capital is ? If you said Melbourne spot on I would say he was almost like a father figure for her as when she was reigning her father the duke of Kent had died .

Lea Ihrig yes I find her immensely fascinating she’s one of only two queens to have an era of history named after her the others are all named after kings in the main the other queen to have one is Elizabeth’ the first the Elizabethan age refers to her the Victorian era is after Queen Victoria .

His (implied) death scene made me cry!!! Victoria truly cared about him and their friendship was one of the best things that happened to Victoria.

I always crazy rufus sewell😗..more than 20 years following him...he is a great actor, his expressions, his grasping voice..his handsome physical natural frame.. even though for this decade he did a lot of villains..still crazy by him🤦🏻‍♀️.. finally people value what I have seen in him all these years..😃 🙌🏼

His performance as John Smith in the man in the high castle is probably one of the best acting I’ve ever seen.
I reckon, if in Star Wars there would ever be the need of a young Tarkin, Sewell is the right man for the job.

I live in the city named after Lord Melbourne and after seeing how he is betrayed in Victoria I think we truly deserve his name for our wonderful town! He is so charming and so likeable on the TV screen. Rufus Sewell does a magnificent job. The affection between he and Victoria is so evident. Am new to this show, and loving it.

gillie girl well said I’m australian too live in Sydney though ! If you love this show I’ll let you know the first two seasons are on dvd as is the Christmas special but he’s a fascinating person that’s for sure as is Victoria till fairly recently she was the longest reigning monarch in British history at 61 years on the throne her record stood till the present queen broke it as she’s been queen for 65 years + and shows no signs of abdicating at present . Mind you I doubt she’d be able to stand forty years alone as Victoria did in her sixty one years reign forty of those were without Albert by her side as he died in 1861 the cause of death is uncertain as far as I’m aware though believed to be tuberculosis or pneumonia or a stomach condition . But he definitely had a influence on her reign as can be attested to by Albert park in Victoria , royal Albert hall and Victoria and Albert museum in London not to mention royal daultons line of China the Albert collection . Plus here in Sydney we have royal prince Alfred hospital named after Victoria and alberts son. Then you also have the Victoria falls in South Africa as well .

There is just no winning in the business of politics. But Lord Melbourne handled it exceedingly well and history never gave him enough credit for it.

I really thought that he was the same actor who played Group Captain Peter Townsend-Ben Miles on The Crown. After checking the cast of each show, I can see that they are not the same persons but show could pass as brothers.

Rufus Sewell is a Great actor but the real Lord Melbourne lacked the quality of a good PM. He can't be regarded in the same league of Pitt the younger, Earl Grey, Robert Peel or Lord Palmerston who proved to be great statesmen
