Ned was truely a beautiful man. He sacrificed his own honour to keep Jon’s identity a secret. Had to go home and make everyone think he cheated on Catlyin. Still had love for Robert even tho he knew he would’ve killed Jon if he found out he was a Targaryen. Man I miss Ned
He did not sacrifice anything he had no choice it was a spur of the moment thing his sister had a baby and he had to care for it because it was his sister and he did not believe Robert would kill Jon either that's why when he found out about Robert calling apon the assassination of daenerys and her baby he quit the small council and was shocked Robert was willing to murder a baby.
I didn't like Ned when he sent John to the wall and when Ned died it was only sad because of his children and then I knew who John was and I understood everything, even sending John to the wall was his way of protecting him.
@@RubbinRobbin refused his sister excuse me? 😂 what was he gonna say? "Sorry sister I ain't taking care of Jon imma leave him right here and head on out"
I think it was good Ned did not reveal it -- Kate's hatred to him was well known and reenforced the story that would unravel with any real investigation
Catelyn proved that she would do anything for her natural born kids. She released Jamie to try and get her girl back. What do you think she would have done to Jon if she had the opportunity to? She would give up his true lineage to protect her kids without a doubt.
I think Ned was trying to protect Jon from Robert. He spent years hunting down Viscerys and Daenerys, what would he do if he found out the trueborn son of Rhaegar was being sheltered in the North by Ned?
Even though I love Catelyn’s development in the show I would rather have the scene where Robb legitimized Jon and kept Cats character there instead of this scene.
Just because someone feels guilty doesn't mean they deserve forgiveness. She had 17 years to treat Jon right, and didn't. A minute long conversation doesn't erase all that.
Cat is one of my fav characters. She's a good person but she's flawed. She's so real. Great writing and acting 👏 "All because I couldn't love a motherless child...." chilling
I never read the books but know its in the books. Go ahead and crucify me for what I'm about to say. But i never liked jon being revealed as who he really is. It felt like a cop out. Ruining the idea that despite him being a snow, a bastard, the unwanted child. He was more fit to rule. Why? Because he never had a claim like anyone else. He had to fight for respect and admiration. With his real lineage revealed, it makes it feel like he was magically and mystically born to rule. He should have been Ned's bastard son. Ned's start most dishonorable mistake, birthed the most honorable man. It would have been poetic.
There is an over arching plot reason for Jon's birth and that is the prophecy of the Song of Ice and Fire. The Prince that was promised. Aegon the conqueror specifically conquered and united Westeros so that they would be prepared for the Others with a Targaryen on the throne(as the Targaryen's with their dragons may be the only ones to stop them). Rhaegar was told about the prophecy and it was partly why he had a child with Lyanna Stark. It would be the culmination of Ice and Fire.
I find it hard to believe that Ned didnt trust Cat to keep the secret of Jon's true parents. He loved amd trusted her with his life, over the years he would most definitely have told her knowing she would never tell a soul.
He barley knew her when he returned with Jon, and after so long there was no reason to tell her especially since Caetlyn while loyal was more loyal to blood.. her treatment of theon and especially John were proof enough
You underestimate just how smart people are in the show. If she finds out she may start to act differently around Jon which would raise suspicion. Remember both Varys and Littlefinger, who are council members, have eyes and ears everywhere. It would take only one slip up in front of the wrong people for Robert to find out. Add to that Robert despises the Targaryens and wants them dead more than his friendship with Ned. He would invade the North if it meant killing Jon. Better for 1 person to know to reduce the risk of Robert's wrath.
@@Kyle-gu3genot just any ordinary targaryen but jon was also the son of Rhaegar Targaryen. The one who took Lianna from Robert. Once Robert finds out about that, he'd surely try to kill jon.

I just watched this episode at my friend's house and... As I'm listening to Caitlyn. Her spite and hatred for a child that wasn't her's and wanted him to die. Though he made it through. She vowed to name him Stark... And she couldn't and resented him. And she knew this was her fault... And honestly it made me tear up. Because I felt the pain in her soul and heart. All because she couldn't call a child that wasn't her's, hers... It's a Greek Tragedy in a sense and so deep... Just my thoughts.
I'm so invested in Lady Stoneheart having Robb's crown after the Red Wedding. Wondering if her end game is crowning Jon Snow King of the North after she is done killing Freys.
Ikr! 7 gods who are listening when you pray? Preposterous! Start living in the real world with the little elf people who time travel thru trees and the chick breastfeeding her dragons in a bonfire and the rest of us
That’s a good sentiment for someone who isn’t at threat of being beheaded or worse by any random bandit that wanders the country. World sucked to live back then even for the rich, people needed something greater to believe in
The best thing the show did was making Catelyn so sympathetic. In the book, shes a really vindicative woman and treats Jon horribly. Theres a reason why Ned didnt tell her any secret because the next second she would go blabbering it to Lysa. She was actually such an idiot. But show Catelyn? A very tragic, complex character. Its a testament to both the script and Michelle's acting.
Game of thrones is no doubt one of the best shows in the worst and arguably the best but there is so much I wish we got to see that just doesn’t make the show a 10/10 for me . She never got to see Jon again and most of the family died before being reunited and that didn’t start happening until season 6-7 …. At the very end of the show and for that I hated it so much
Perhaps she's different in the books, but Catelyn is a ginormous idiot in the show bar none. Releasing Jaime because he "gave her his word" alone puts her at the top before you consider everything else
Heavy spoiler alert if you haven't watched the show, but: No, Jon is the son of Lyanna Stark (Ned's sister) and Rhaegar Targaryen. They married in secret, and Jon was born from that (although Lyanna named him Aegon). Jon is the rightful heir to the Iron Throne before Daenerys
Ned couldn't trust her enough to keep the real secret to herself. He punished both of them through out.. Wasn't a good stark afterall. Like ariya and Rob. Rest of them are shitty enough.
You can't expect a woman who waits for her husband to come home from war with a child that wasn't hers and embrace with open arms. This is her own guilt coming back to haunt her. From things that were beyond her control.... Not knowing Ned had to keep such a secret from everyone he swore fieldy to... This was the grave secret that she had no clue it was her sister in laws son.
This is one of my favorite scenes from the entire show version of the series. The music, Michelle’s acting, everything is just perfect.
