The best thing the show did was making Catelyn so sympathetic. In the book, shes a really vindicative woman and treats Jon horribly. Theres a reason why Ned didnt tell her any secret because the next second she would go blabbering it to Lysa. She was actually such an idiot. But show Catelyn? A very tragic, complex character. Its a testament to both the script and Michelle's acting.

I just watched this episode at my friend's house and... As I'm listening to Caitlyn. Her spite and hatred for a child that wasn't her's and wanted him to die. Though he made it through. She vowed to name him Stark... And she couldn't and resented him. And she knew this was her fault... And honestly it made me tear up. Because I felt the pain in her soul and heart. All because she couldn't call a child that wasn't her's, hers... It's a Greek Tragedy in a sense and so deep... Just my thoughts.

You underestimate just how smart people are in the show. If she finds out she may start to act differently around Jon which would raise suspicion. Remember both Varys and Littlefinger, who are council members, have eyes and ears everywhere. It would take only one slip up in front of the wrong people for Robert to find out. Add to that Robert despises the Targaryens and wants them dead more than his friendship with Ned. He would invade the North if it meant killing Jon. Better for 1 person to know to reduce the risk of Robert's wrath.

I never read the books but know its in the books. Go ahead and crucify me for what I'm about to say. But i never liked jon being revealed as who he really is. It felt like a cop out. Ruining the idea that despite him being a snow, a bastard, the unwanted child. He was more fit to rule. Why? Because he never had a claim like anyone else. He had to fight for respect and admiration. With his real lineage revealed, it makes it feel like he was magically and mystically born to rule. He should have been Ned's bastard son. Ned's start most dishonorable mistake, birthed the most honorable man. It would have been poetic.

There is an over arching plot reason for Jon's birth and that is the prophecy of the Song of Ice and Fire. The Prince that was promised. Aegon the conqueror specifically conquered and united Westeros so that they would be prepared for the Others with a Targaryen on the throne(as the Targaryen's with their dragons may be the only ones to stop them). Rhaegar was told about the prophecy and it was partly why he had a child with Lyanna Stark. It would be the culmination of Ice and Fire.

I disagree here because I think the Prince that is Promised doesn’t just represent the savior and hero of Westeros but he also represents the greatest and final member of House Targaryen. I think Jon doesn’t end up with any heirs by choice. Although, I don’t see him going beyond the wall like the show I do see him refusing to take the throne and choosing to be a sell sword or protector with his own dragon.
