Great points on pre-painted, soft plastic, and scale. If Legion was 100% hard plastic, I’d own a ton more just for that. Pre-painted not only leaves the hobby aspect off the table, but kills a ton of desire for repeat models. As for scale, I’ve always thought 10-20 base squads would be far cooler for Legion. Yeah, I’m sold…sadly, no one’s selling!
I only just got into Legion last month. I hope it has a long road ahead, and that none of my minis/gear are invalidated. As an X-Wing player, that system at least was feature-complete. As an Armada player I'm definitely a bit heartbroken. They never really re-stocked stuff and they still had so much to go...
I've been collecting/painting Legion for a couple years. I just got a few friends into the hobby and we've just started playing games. I'm looking forward to the bright future of Legion.
It’s a shame X-Wing got canned. I was hoping they’d release the Bad Batch Marauder seeing as they’ve just released Bad Batch for Shatterpoint and now Legion :(
not if they want to maintain confidence of their customers that AMG is maintaining the SW license and that they are continuing to support games players have heavily invested in. A new, generic AMG game would shake that confidence and likely start an exodus.
I will not re invest in a new star wars spaceship game that AMG puts out. I have plenty of both to keep playing and will spend my money with a different company.
@@urloony I don’t think so. I was a huge imperial assault player and that is over and I still buy and invest in other similar games. I think AMG can come out with an improved game system for spaceship combat.
@@jamesvari For you and others that’s fine but for others getting into other systems like spaceship style games it would be good to open up a new system. Also be good to improve on the current system. Some will not buy it that’s fine but many others will. Same thing we are having with legion vs shatterpoint. Both have their place and there is money to be made.
I think the key deciding point is "how can we get you to buy more?" And with X Wing and Armada the answer was purely new development, which isn't as profitable especially with pre-painted minis. SWL, Shatterpoint, and MCP are in a good spot where slight tweeks to unit caps allow them to sell more of base product without needing new releases or breaking the game.
Gaming is huge here in KC. There are many game stores and cafes that host tabletop gaming all day every day. When my pals and I meet for Legion, we see it all: Warhammer, Katan, D&D, you name it. I have to confess I've not seen anyone playing X-Wing or Armada out in the public sphere. I'm aware people enjoy those games, but local game night is a good gauge to see the general popularity of any game. When I lived in New Orleans, I had a couple of friends who played X-wing and went to a game store there looking for gifts, but the manager very directly stated that overall interest in X-wing and Armada had just become too thin to warrant maintaining the stock. Unfortunately, for any business profit isn't just important; its crucial. It's the whole point. So, for me, if the continuance of Legion is secured by the elimination of unprofitable games, I really can't complain. But hopefully AMG or someone else will find a way to satisfy those customers who really want tabletop space-based battles in the future.
Thank you Crabbok for calming people down, I noticed now at my job a lot of people are panic buying Armada and X Wing products. Not blaming them of course those prices are going to be skyrocketing now unless Asmodee quells the fire.
Shatterpoint is a competitor to Legion and AMG made shatterpoint so it only makes sense they would get rid of the competition to their in house made product.
The difference between Legion and Armada/X Wing is that new product is still being printed and developed for Legion whereas Armada stopped seeing new physical products developed in May of 2021 and X Wing in May of 2022. I think that, for now, Legion is safe.
I did a demo game of SWL when it first came out, and liked it. Locally there does not seem to be that big of a following. I still want to get into the system however, and hearing that the older sculpts will come back as hard plastic does have me excited!
2.0 legion with refreshed imp/rebel line would be interesting but potentially quite risky. One of the difficulties for these star wars titles is that they only really have 6 movies to choose from for reliable nostalgia products and people with big existing collections may not be as interested once you move away from that (ie whatever that 'range trooper' nonsense is.

Leading to deterioration of the game and many of its core players leaving the game ending up with same fate as x-wing but hey that might not happen too soon but maybe in a foreseeable future. The game system that X-wing and Armada is a licensed property. I would like to throw out there that maybe, just maybe AMG will release something similar not using that license. Gold Wing (x-wing) and The Imperial Naval Academy (Armada) also known as T.I.N.A.
My concern is that they drastically change the rules of Legion, then half of the player base loses interest, and then they sunset the game, much like X-Wing.

@LordGrendok stupid? Ok. Well we all have our opinions. Mine is Shattetpoint or SWCP is boring and enough similarities to MCP for me to nickname it as such.
For me it's mcp, Legion and then shatterpoint which I don't play anymore. I don't like game play of shatterpoint, they have cool rules but it's a game of pushing. I want obliteration of units and mcp and Legion fulfill that. I agree with you that once the 2.0 rules and hard plastic models come out Legion could be top of the play list again.
If AMG has shown us anything, it's that nothing Star Wars is safe with them. AMG murdered two, successful and popular games. After what they've done with Armada and X-Wing, I will never trust them with anything else. I will certainly not pour a cent into any customizable game from them. Let the buyer beware.
Let fans of any AMG Star Wars product realize that if AMG could intentionally abandon another game, AMG can just as easily abandon (and probably will) yours, too.
I Also believe legion is safe at least up to 2026, If dropping X-wing and Amanda have the affect they believe and does not cause people to panic and leave the legion family, due to poor communications and false news.
Been playing legion since late 2020 and currently a die hard imperial player. I’ve been getting more and more frustrated by AMG as time has gone on. Many issues that have come up aren’t being addressed and I see that effecting people enjoyment of the game. The RRG update did more damage than it fixed in my opinion. Several keywords just don’t work anymore, deciding cover is more of a chore to deal with than ever before and the forum rulings are just “gotchyas”. Look at the mess that was worlds this year. A time when the community comes together to battle it out to see who is the top dog. But it was marred by the poor format, blatant collaboration with the ties. They received such backlash that they dropped it entirely and then got more backlash so they are doing worlds again. Prices are getting to GW levels now too. $60 CA plus tax for range troopers with two sets of duplicate minis. Thats becoming more and more common now. I want to give AMG money, but they need to clean up their act. I don’t think legion needs a 2.0, but a good, constructive look at the game state and fixed to what they have broken. Small and meaningful changes will go a long way.
If we leave a comment and are eligible for your giveaways, will you reach out to us in some way in case we don't watch a video we are announced a winner in?
I'd argue Legion is not safe - profitable or not, if Asmodee becomes insolvent due to the huge debt saddled on it by Embracer (and putting your debt on a subsidiary for that subsidiary to go under and eliminate that debt is a tactic used by these private equity groups) the game will be finished.
I hear that, but I feel like that’s more of an asmodee problem than a legion problem. My point here is they won’t single out Legion as a game to be dropped.
Hello. SWL will be gone 2025 because of licensing, AMG will not announce new products, Shatterpoint is not selling well outside of the US and Unlimited showed that you can make more money with "less" production effort. Look and Q1 sales of Gamegenic products for Unlimited and the spike in sales. MCP is also not selling well outside US. Will of AMG is a guy hard to handle and my prediction is 2026 no Legion products, no Shatterpoint products and the License for Tabletop will be given to another company. But I hope I'm wrong about it.
As for what we're getting in the UK Legion may as well be dead, Shatterpoint and MCP too. Asmodee UK seriously need to get their finger out of thier a*se and release something. We're over 2 months behind the USA now thanks to the inept fools at Asmodee UK. They need to stop hiding behind the shipping lane issue as it's not adding all this time on.
I agree shatterpoint is in danger. Legion players don’t want to see it take over, I for see shatter point getting a year of releases that were already in the pipes then no new releases. They might not get dropped due to being in hard plastic so basically free to produce after initial earning back the machine cost.
I disagree, as Star Wars dives in popularity but the IP remains expensive, don't count on this lasting more than another 2 maybe 3 years. I predict minimal releases until it is sunset.
Definitely the case around here too, we have occasional Legion events but weekly Shatterpoint events. I haven’t really seen any MCP events in a few months
It's hard to say this is just profit-sucking and Embracer debt. I think your gaming commentary is on point here but your corporate economics commentary is a bit off the mark. Production costs are way up, China is squeezing partners on these things while changing the terms of their partnership deals (like their plastics printing and their book printing) because they're walking a thin line to avoid recession. Generally tabletop games are not tremendously profitable as it is, and you don't have a lot of wiggle room to recoup your variable costs. Demand elasticity is tremendous for tabletop hobby stuff--AMG *needs* to substantially hike the price of X-Wing/Armada/Legion to sail steady and profit at all (without profit, you sink), but demand falls sharply when they raise prices. They are likely in a brutal checkmate situation. I think this would have happened regardless of the Embracer position. Global inflation has gutted these kinds of companies and driven up materials costs, operating costs, logistics costs, time costs, and more. You control that by raising prices (which they can't really do without being rejected by consumers), firing people (which they've already had to do as they restructured FFG), selling more product (tough right now) or closing product lines to reduce operational footprint, reduce accounts payable, and refocus on your max-margin portfolio. It's tough, but it is what it is. This is a volatile and challenging business climate. As companies start to stabilize we'll see games like that come back. But right now the insane 2014-2019 board game craze has cooled off and demand has reduced, inflation is increasing demand elasticity for discretionary goods like toys, and inflation is totally killing the way these companies operated. You could dance a really precarious position in the euphoria of 2018/2019, but you'll get beaten down for that now.
Nah I'm sorry but, they lied to crabbok during the live interview about armarda and xwing. They kept quite and made out like it was fine, the sane will happen with everything else except shatterpoint.
Games Workshop has always being the worst publisher. For SW Legion, it has alot potential, but would be alot more succesfull, if those models where available in the first place.
This is where capitalism falls down, shady business practices by certain owning companies who then hammer profitable/successful companies that they have bought in order to transfer debt to as a corporate scam 😞

You mean like how they just released 2 new $75 starter sets for X-Wing?
♫ Whackity Schmackity Dewwwwww ♫
Legion needs to stick long enough for us to get Gungans
This is unlikely as not many want them, and as such a risky investment at this time seems unlikely
Great analysis! :)
What day is ministravaganza in July?
Is shatterpoint profitable? I doubt it.
Great commentary
Let fans of any AMG Star Wars product realize that if AMG could intentionally abandon another game, AMG can just as easily abandon (and probably will) yours, too.
I agree that legion is safe.
My ranking is MCP, legion close second, shatterpoint a distant third
I don’t see legion going anywhere anytime soon
Legion is more AMGs wheelhouse anyway. It’ll be fine for at least two or three years.
I Also believe legion is safe at least up to 2026, If dropping X-wing and Amanda have the affect they believe and does not cause people to panic and leave the legion family, due to poor communications and false news.
Ligion is doing good at my game store also it is ding better than 40k right now.
Love to hear it
Where is the tx-130...? Where is it? Where are you keeping hidden? And why are you doing it? Why?.... whyyyyyyy... 😅
Shatterpoint is so much fun and in our area has a much larger community than legion does.
Definitely the case around here too, we have occasional Legion events but weekly Shatterpoint events. I haven’t really seen any MCP events in a few months
Short answer, no. Long answer, not yet.
Releasing Shatterpoint after Legion feels like the 'Noughts and Crosses' company releasing 'Crosses and Noughts'. No, thanks.
Insightful analysis
legions definitely not safe. its mostly likely next.
Short answer is no not at all I give it a few years.
I mean others said x wing was safe and armada was safe and we see how that panned out. Nothing is safe with this company.
Agreed
Nah I'm sorry but, they lied to crabbok during the live interview about armarda and xwing. They kept quite and made out like it was fine, the sane will happen with everything else except shatterpoint.
I agree with the first part, that interview guy leid through his teeth
But I think legion is too profitable not to focus on and produce.
Is it safe? One word: Shatterpoint.
Is it one word? A compound word of two words 😊
If they do a 2nd edition,I'm out! Sorry not sorry.
Second!
Not at all! Legion is next on the chopping block.
Nope. Disney will start pushing their new shows and movies in the games and kill off the original games.
God help us
