I'm almost done with your brilliant course. Even though I've had my Typhon for over a year, I still found a lot of useful and inspiring info in it. Your elektro presets are also banging! Thanks for taking the time to make all this. Here's two tips you didn't cover that I use all the time: 1) As you mentioned the Typhon doesn't have a setting for dotted or triplet delays, but you can do this easily using one of the LFO's. First set the delay to BPM, then set the LFO type to a step sequencer with only one step, main Level at 100, Destination 3.F31 (Slider all the way to the top) which modulates the delay time, and destination level to 50, for dotted, or 33 for triplets. 2) Transposing patterns via MIDI. This helps create longer melodies. I'll program a rhythm with the notes all at c and then use my Syntakt to make note changes. You could program something more melodic but you have to be careful about transposing it or it might get out of key. Pretty useful when using the Elektron sequencer since it's limited to 4 bars unless you lower the resolution which makes it difficult to program in 16th notes.
Hey! You were quick to get through the course! Good to hear you found it useful and your enjoying the presets :) Good tips, I use the second one often but completely overlooked adding it. All my courses are open to updates and extra content so I will add some extra tips next month :)
Hi James. Really great tutorial, thanks for sharing. Do you have the notation for the sequence available at all? Or better yet, the patch for the Typhon. I'd love to replicate it. Thanks.
Yes you can, CC1 for modwheel but I’m sure on octa you just enable mod wheel like on the Digitakt. In the course I show how to do it on Digitakt for mod wheel and aftertouch. Hope that helps!
Hi. really enjoy your tutorials on the Typhon. Question for you, how do you set it up to work with the Beatstep? I believe I have configured everything correctly, but when I hit a pad or play on the beatstep sequencer, nothing happens. Appreciate any tips you can provide. Thanks.
Hey! Sorry for late reply, unfortunately I don’t have the best step, it sounds like it could be anything, have you set them up with with same midi channel, changed settings to send and receive midi on each device etc?
Hey! Sorry for late reply just going through comments. Yeah I had similar gripe, the way I’ve been initialising preset slots is using the preset manager and copying and pasting initialised slots where I need em. Not perfect but that’s how I’ve been doing it. If you have at least one initialised preset on your Typhon you can use that to save over presets
Great video. Curious, have you ever used a Roland SE-02? I am toying between Typhon and the SE-02 as a new Monosynth purchase...both have a lot of positives...
Not yet! But I always find the roland boutiques a little awkward to perform with. The Typhon is laid out nicely for live performance. Sound wise, yes I think the SE02 will sound 👌
Typhon have a more harsh sound, but still warm. SE-02 have a very warm sound. SE has no such many effects and modulations, but it have 3 oscillators with a lot of controls for it, Typhon doesn't have so many controls for Oscillators. So it depends what you want.
just bought the course. in this tutorial when you speed up the sequence creation its hard to recreate it. Where can i download the preset with the sequence - or do you have a list of the settings per step.
Very good shout Geoff! Sorry I actually had it in mind to add the preset to the course, doing admin right now so I will upload. Should all be available within next 30 mins. I was gonna let that sequence section run but it was so long 😂😭 Thank you for letting me know and apologies for forgetting to do that. Hope you enjoy the course!
This looks like an interesting course to better master my lovely sounding Typhon. A question though: - I signed up but didn’t get a discount code for The Typhon course, only for the hydrasynth bundle?
Great tutorial as always - gold. Thanks James
Thanks Geoff! Had fund making this one!

Amazing tutorial! Willing to purchase the course. Question! How do you set up the controller knob? Via CC? can you do it with the Octatrack? Thank you

@@jamesorvis_mixhackers yep, done all of that. I’m thinking maybe there is an issue with Beatstep. I’m in the market for a new sequencer.
set the beatstep on same midi channel as your typhon.
Go to global settings on typhon and select same midi channel as the bsp is playing
How can i init preset do
Thanks for helping me
