I look forward to the year 2024 when the player gamemode/1 reaches top 5 on PGR out of nowhere after grinding in the lab for 3 years and 6 months of tourney experience
my friend and i were talking about this, i think steve is poorly designed (he fits so weirdly in smash) and he says he’s designed very well (incredibly faithful to minecraft)
@@nathanlevesque7812 steve has so many mechanics unique to himself and causes so many weird interactions idk i don’t think he was well designed for competitive smash, but that’s not what they were going for so oh well
Timestamps w/ quick summary (in progress) *0:54** - Phantom Block Reverse (PBR - kind of B-Rev./more on turnaround, but can aerial attack out)* 2:37 - PBR combos/uses (bair & fair instances, and their purpose, including mixups) *8:37** - No Impact Land (NIL - jumping and landing on a block at the right height without land impact/lag to perform inputs faster; must practice block placement, jump heights and timing)* 9:23 - NIL terminology 10:34 - Battlefield/platform instance uses of NIL *11:28 - NIL combos introduction *12:38 - 2 & 3 block NIL info (important, 2 NIL especially to understand block placement) 13:32 - 2 NIL no DI combos 14:43 - 3 NIL no DI combos 16:41 - Different NIL combos (mixup of 1, 2, 3 & 4 NIL + some PBR) *17:47 - more NIL block placement advice 18:06 - off-stage NIL block placement alternatives of Up-smash (due to block placement more shortened duration than placed above stage) *19:32 - NIL combos + DI (information) 20:08 - Up-air vs. Up-tilt 20:52 - Combo varies on different weight-list characters (e.g: Fox is heavy) *21:47** - Mine Block Cancel (mine the block you’re on to dispel it quicker; more options for Steve like safer moves/shield pressure, etc.)*
Some things ESAM mentioned in the video like the repeater block combo are no longer viable as they have been patched or different materials of the tools having different knockback/percentages, so I haven’t included specific timestamps like those. I don’t want to be long with these quick summaries too, so I didn’t include frame data for stuff like NIL block placements. I will fix these timestamps so it’s more organized. These should be enough imo.
blocks are actually frame 4 when steve is falling. they are f6 when rising/ or when snapped to the block grid (like for example when performing NIL) EDIT: This is why it may be harder for you to PBR when falling, after all you do have 2 less frames to work with
Steve is by far the hardest character to master IMO. Kazuya’s a close second, but at least with him you only have to figure out one frame-perfect input with EWGF. With Steve, you have to master like 15 frame-perfect inputs just for *one* combo.
@@nathanlevesque7812 That’s why I said “master” instead of “use”. Steve can get by just fine without the NILs and PBRs, but learning them takes time that I am not willing to spend. xD
@@nathanlevesque7812 well he's clearly defining "mastery" as knowledge and capacity to apply all of the potentially practical tech skills, and considering both his frame-tight inputs and creative setups, Steve's potential is endless
I main Steve and you want to know how hard is to do all Those combos , So hard that you get a headache just looking at some one doing them , now imagine actually trying to practice them 🤣
Up smash doesn’t work offstage cause blocks break faster offstage. Still this is an incredible vid and I’m looking forward to terrorizing my local scene (I’ve got the 4 block NIL before this and even that freaks em out hehehe)! Thanks for this!
if you have a shoulder mapped to special and c-stick on it's easier because then you don't need to move your thumb to b, you can turn around with the control stick, and then choose what aerial you want (besides neutral air) with c-stick
I feel like as ultimate goes on Steve will only be rising in the meta and on tier lists. Steve is insane.
yo i love your videos
You’re getting so close to having the check mark!
I can imagine in the next game he will have netherite and truly be top tier
you really predicted the future. (dry bonses would be better than steve though.)

How does it feel
Hello from 2024
Steve really plays like minecraft, because you just do whatever you want.
🔥
I am so glad you went over NILs. Everytime I ask a Steve player they just say "I dunno just lab it"
Steve is easily the most faithgully designed character (to his original game that is)

Didn't Esam even say you have a 2 frame window to get it? Maybe it's the same 2!
