He sounds like he is selling me a recovery move that I can't refuse
I’ll take two of those!
And it worked
he is
Little Mac would take anything
hes a good business man
Men, try this tonight to get 3 meters more with Steve's recovery. Your wife's going to love this.
Underrated comment
A comment on a Smash video that is not only actually funny but also isn't so cringy that it makes me want to blow my brains out? Epic!
I hate that I can understand this lol
Jokes on you, I have a husband! So we’re both gonna try this.
😂😂😂
“You’re pretty much grabbing the ledge with your feet”
*Cries in Bogard*
XD I swear that recovery move rarely grabs the ledge regularly like he only grabs it at it’s peak
As a Terry player I also hate it, his recovery isn’t bad but he almost NEVER grab ledge
You gotta sweet spot it but that can be tricky.
Charge Rising Tackle is good and you can get deceptively low while being able to ledgesnap. It just sucks getting 2 framed lol
"Lol he has a bad recovery"
People only aiming up and not even using the glide
vertically, it's bad
@@kachosuffer7 honestly it’s still better than a fair bit of the cast
@@nicksalvatore5717 Better than Little Mac, but that's a given. Also i wish in a future patch they reduce Steve's vulnerability when he lands midway through the full move, that could really help.
@@rednk9106 no. Git gud kid
Also better than the Belmonts up b. It can be used much more unpredictably and you can batman around
I would show this video to anyone who wants to play Steve at all, this is pretty important even at a low skill level. It sucks to be just short of recovery, which happens a lot with Steve!
Yeah, this would be like, not mashing, with Wii fit, or bowser, basically the recovery is objectively worse in almost every way besides input difficulty, which isn't that demanding to begin with.
I tried to do this frame perfectly mind you, and it went at 9
7 months later, his recovery is not an issue anymore.
Dang that's actually a huge difference, thanks for the vid M2K
He’s the last bastion of hope
That is actually insanely useful. His recovery wasn’t too bad before either, so now it just makes his recovery *really* good. The jank just keeps on coming.

Nah, his recovery was bad because it was too slow, but with that now is only exploitable.
The cool thing is that this is sort of how Elytra work in Minecraft; you keep the upward momentum that the Firework Rocket gives while not stalling in the air
good thing they patched out the intial infinite height trick in minecraft, or it would have been ACTUAL Meta Knight gliding
@@donovanmahan2901 Infinite Height Trick?

HIS FEET!
He grabs it with his shoes!
@@niconicer6463 you mean his foot-glove
He doesn’t even have toes to grab with 😭😭
Steve? Pfft. Min Min is where it’s at when it comes to ledge grabbing. She technically doesn’t even have a recovery, she just has a really long ledge grab that you have to manually activate
Personally I think Terry did it best
Damn dude, Steve be climbing that tier list...
Yeah, like, i dont think hes going to ba a top tier, but on day one he felt like mid tier- high tier, now some time after it definitely feels like a high tier.
He's going to reach the S tier, mash A, and ledge warp to Steve tier

@@skimmilkm good one
He's building his way up the tier list
Another couple things:
• An easy way to get out of the glide animation the same way is just pressing the shield button.
• To everyone who watched this, practice doing this B-reversed as well. It's slightly more difficult and can be handy to get the hand of during a battle.
3:03 uses ender pearl
That makes sense
Steve is hacking he used an ender pearl and didn’t take damage
Fun fact: sometimes when steve falls it makes the damage sound from minecraft
It'll either be the landing sound or the damage sound, depends on the distance.
I only heard it once after coming off of the respawn platform
It’s only from 6 blocks high or higher
@@esqimo6647 it's actually 7 blocks you have to jump off the 6 blocks for the sound to play and Steve's jump is 1 block high
I actually discovered this myself too, thanks for letting more people know about this useful tip!
Edit: I was talking about the A-mash, not the angle thing.
Same😅
Does dodge button serves as well as mashing A? Because I feel that using the dodge button actually helps me to reach the ledge sometimes
This stuff is why I love characters with tons of tech
Let me introduce you to Melee
I wish ult had more tech like brawl and melee
M2ks smile man cx he is so cute.
But this is ridiculous! It's like little mac getting 3 more units to his recovery
Man I still can't get over how good terry looks in this game
I think is his classic alt or something xD
All.the human DLC fighters look amazing
"Steve has a bad vertical recovery"
His vertical recovery:
People just dont know who to glide that efficiently
@@precypurlas6688 Yea like me before watching this video
I practiced the hecc out of gliding man
It still sucks. Only average distance at best with tech, easy to edgeguard, easy to ledge trap, easy to 2 frame, no use outside of recovery, only deals damage for a short time and if you press up b accidentally you are basically dead
@@hk-ex4gw okay, but it certainly doesn't "suck" it has good horizontal distance and can be unpredictable if you're good with it.
Also, "no use outside of recovery" It can be ledge-cancelled and while that isn't too useful in most situations, it has use outside of recovery.
"Easy to ledge trap" i don't understand why you say this, if you're talking about up-b ("only deals damage for a short time") then why'd you bring up steve's ledge options? he has plenty of options involving blocks and minecart if he has materials.

I do agree the Mine Cart and TNT method recovery is kind of cost inefficient.
Having this method now, yes. They are great stalling options though.
I mean, if you stall, get back to stage and take advantage with what you have and then mine, boom. Big brain
Good for last stock
It is cost inefficient, but there are many practical situations where it is your only salvation. For example, let's say a Pikachu player tries to edgeguard you and you find yourself under Battlefield or under Final Destination. Then doing Minecart -> TNT -> Mine cart -> TNT -> Elytra will save you even if you're at the bottom of the screen and have no midair jump. And yes, you can do TNT twice, once the first one disappears, you can do a second TNT. Now, you may say "I'll never find myself under the stage like that." But these shenanigans do actually happen quite frankly both in casual play and in high level tournament play. It's not like an every match thing, but it happens often enough that it's useful to know this method.
Yeah, but you can do the first method, get to a high enough spot to set a block down, then do method 3 and high recover from underneath the stage, then mine at the other side of the stage. That's pretty interesting.
dude, Steve is so complex that you need a secret code to recover.
I don't get why people are surprised that Steve doesn't go higher by shooting straight upwards. You don't ever see an airplane do that.
Not how the elytra works in minecraft
It’s a very patched version of the elytra so people need to get used to the biggest difference in smash
@@Spongeb0bSquar3pants if you’re looking straight up in minecraft, then when the firework rocket runs out you start stalling VERY quickly.
Therefore it’s common knowledge to switch to a reasonable angle right before it runs out. I don’t think it gives you more hight in minecraft, but it does follow the same behavior pattern
Yeah, airplanes just do frame perfect button combos and grab the air with their feet!
@Pyzon yo wtf
Btw tnt doesn't give you back minecart, it just stalls you enough to where the minecart despawns through the lower blastzone. You technically have infinite uses of minecart it's just it works similar to footstool where your height from the jump decreases each time. The only limit is that minecart can not be already spawned in. Thank you for listening to my ted talk
He says that later on in the video
@@isaacbacon6056 he says "I think" and even later he says to tell him how it works and I did just that. Also the way e was saying made it sound like you had to tnt and I was clarifying that you don't need to tnt, especially when he said later that the tnt trick costs too much resources.
@@lumen9590 TNT doesn't cost THAT much, though. And TNT does add height to the recovery, so it's still useful to do it. You can do Minecart -> TNT -> Minecart -> TNT -> Elytra and still have resources left. It's not very efficient, but it can save you in some practical situations where you might not be saved by the Elytra glitch alone.
@@angelmendez-rivera351 doing minecart tnt minecart tnt wastes 18 resources including at least 2 iron. That's a lot no matter how you slice it
@@lumen9590 Compared to the total amount of resources Steve/Alex carry on themselves on average, that's not a lot, no matter how you slice it
i did this in slowmo and i noticed that steve can get to the 12th block pretty consistently if you flick down just long enough for him to be completely parallel with the floor. And the flick down should be done almost immediately after the launch off
also slightly above parallel or below parallel wont get u as high
The benefit to using Side B, Down B, and Side B is stalling purposes. Steve can stall for a long time like Pac-Man
The timing is pretty difficult. Whenever I try I always just go straight down.
Wait till the firework sound effect and the explosion part
Hold up the entire time until (or slightly slightly after) blastoff (around f20/23?) Then you slam stick from up to down. Then immediately release stick to neutral position.
@@TheRealMew2king I did this frame perfectly, and I only went to 9.5 HMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMM
@@No__one1 Obviously you didn’t... 9.5 is lower than just holding up, lol.
@@No__one1 "frame perfectly" somehow does it lower than holding up LUL
Mew2king’s “mash a” can be replaced with shield and pressing it (as opposed to mashing) at the apex of upspecial, it still boosts your legs the same distance
How tight is the timing, because I think that the a press mashing is doing the same thing, but allowing people to hit the timing easier because mashing the a button is slightly easier than mashing the shield
@@chesscankill it’s not too tight, you definitely get like 10 frames to do it once you are at the apex of the up special
I saw this on stream, its busted
@@MetalSam25 same here
Super cursed
@@ThePaperKhan how is it cursed
Why is it busted?
@@xboydubose7254 His vertical distance increased by a pretty considerable amount. By using tech, you can improve his bad recovery.
For anyone else struggling with this - do the down flick immediately when you hear the "Fwee" sound from the firework. If you go earlier, you gimp the whole recovery. If you go late, you don't get the height.
TNT doesn't give him the Minecart again, it just has enough endlag for you to summon it again.
He said that in the video lmao
This applies to TNT as well. If your TNT disappears while in midair, you can use TNT again. So for example, if you are below the stage and below the screen, you can save yourself by doing Minecart -> TNT -> Minecart -> TNT -> Elytra Glitch. You can recover from anywhere even if the Elytra Glitch is not sufficient. Also, just in case the glitch gets patched, this method would be useful, even if cost inefficient.
This video is THE most important guide that involves steve. Now not only is his combo game amazing, his recovery issue is gone. I can't wait to see Steve probably changing the meta. And lastly thank you because I needed a better way to recover guide that dosent involve blocks.
I love his meta now ngl 😍
This is honestly huge for Steve. He’s got this, cart, tnt, blocks, and air dodge for mix ups
Okay, that is an impressive amount of extra recovery! I appreciate sharing the info and demonstration! Thanks!
I guess if you have the resources you can do the first trick into the third trick into the second trick, so with all three tricks it's going to be significantly better.
Hey, to be exact, the TNT isnt actually the reason Steve can use minecart again. Steve can use minecart as often as he wants in the air as long as he has iron. Placing TNT however, makes Steve do a little hop and stalls JUST LONG ENOUGH so that the first minecraft despawns which enables him use another minecart - This method can definetly help you recover if you are in a situation where you are close to a bottom corner of the blastzones. The more you know!

Explaining tricks in a video will always be better than just a simple tweet. Every discovered trick should be explained this way to have a tutorial. It's so much more useful to people.
Nice, my friend mains steve and seeing this could help him, appreciate!
TNT doesn’t actually give Steve minecart back, TNT just gives a small hop/slows Steve’s fall speed enough for the previous minecart to despawn. Steve can just keep using minecart if he has the resources as long as the previous minecart has despawned
He says that at some point
@@jeffrym6298 ah my bad then, I just heard him say that at the start of the video lol. Guess I should have watched the whole thing first

Mew2King sounded like a 2007 ad at the beginning lmao
It's the same in Minecraft so I doubt it's a glitch
I thought you were talking about grabbing ledges with your feet, I got confused.
@@nicjoy4407 what you never grab ledges with your feet when playing minecraft?
@@darkness4068 Considering you cannot grab ledges if it's not a stair...
@@N12015 ya ever hold crouch and walk to the edge of a block? How you think Steve stays nearly floating like that? That's right he grabs it with his feet
@@darkness4068 grabbing the ledge with your feet? Hah! How about landing the ground with your face and still managed to get up unscathed.
By the way: the "spam A" trick can also be performed by spamming shield. it basically gets you around a spotdoge distance more recovery
The A mashing trick works with air dodging as well. Been doing it since day 1. Apparently you're supposed to tech most of the landings so the game is reading the inputs as the tech attempt which makes you move to detach from the wings to land.
This is accurate to how minecraft elytra flight works
Everything in smash is accurate to what their games are
This is cool for covering distance when absolutely necessary but if you have the iron i think it's better to minecart, because the last trick seems like it could be edgeguarded pretty easily with the slow horizontal ending to this.
So many times I could’ve survived if I knew all these things
its really cool how these videos are already coming out people are already grinding with steve
unparalleled contribution to the community. Thanks m2k
Just when we though that Steve recovery couldn't get any better
On the 3rd trick, I think you wanna tilt downward slightly instead of flicking it down
I saw the original tweet and then a post on Reddit and neither did a good job explaining how to do the trick. This sounds clearer and I'll definitely give this a shot later.
so glad more people are finding out about this
Steve Tier :
First Hours : --Mid Tier--
First Days: --High Tier--
Next Days or even Months Probably: Top Tier
Question about the teleport: does it also beat out traditional ledgetraps like Ness' yoyo? I've seen Steve managing to grab ledge despite the persistent yoyo hitbox and is wondering if this is why.
If it does, it's yet another reason to learn this.
Unrelated but as the cool kids say, based profile picture
Bro this helps a lot I’m trying to learn Steve bc I love the massive skill gap. It gives me more to learn.
I can barely get to 11.5 units but holding down after blast-off until you see steve turn horizontally before releasing helped me out a bit.
Just spent about 30 minutes practicing this, and I'm not M2K good, but I can get to 11.5 about half the time.
Also, mashing A to drop the Elytra is ridiculously good. You can snap to the ledge from surprisingly far away.
It’s not mashing A. If you press the Shield button you drop the recovery. You can use this for faints and such. Pretending you’re going to up B across and enter free fall with shield button.
I understand the name of this channel now. Thanks for all this valuable information, M2K!
I just labbed these a bunch, if you use the last 2 tricks well you can barely recover from the bottom of the FD blast zone with just double jump and up-b. If anyone is having trouble with the last trick here's how I think about it:
The goal is to wait until right after the initial boost, then immediately hold the stick down just long enough to get you as close to facing forwards as possible without dipping down. I prefer to think of it as holding down rather than flicking it, because flicking it too quickly doesn't do much. The time between the up B and holding down matters, but leveling out as much as possible is the biggest factor, and getting 1 degree above completely flat will send you absurdly high.
You can also use the shield button to cancel the up b in order to get a little more height
You should refer to the TNT drop as a "TNT Stall" much like Fox's "Shine Stall" in Brawl. The TNT stall allows the minecart to travel off the bottom of the screen so that a fresh cart can be created.
The "Up-Down" should be referred to as the "Elytra Updraft" because it appears as though Steve is catching an upward current of air that carries him higher. When failing to properly execute the technique, you can refer to it by saying "I didn't catch the updraft."
Fun fact since pressing a cancels the up b it uses your momentum so that's why you go up more but you can cancel the landing land of up b so you don't bounce after your landing you just become actionable
Steve already had a remarkable high recovery and now he has a pretty decent low recovery
This is the most technical character
8:00 Steve has hops!
Pretty sure the second trick is cancelling the elytra flight into the elytra drop animation, which is what makes steve put his feet up!
Tap down
Holding down before the launch or just holding down too much will make steve fly downwards so ye
The smash scientist bruh!
Thanks for the advices, very useful :D
kind of redundant, minecraft steves up b (not just mashing a)can be cancelled with an air dodge and aiming straight down with the firework rocket can be a good mixup for recovery!
I vote in smash 6 they change his up b to a controllable ender pearl.
0:06 that sounds like something a clickbaiter would say
As a Steve main this was very valuable
to put my input if your stuck of stage and have no iron then do you down air it will stall you in the air for 1.23 seconds allowing you to elytra back it also make you go up a few centimeters because when Steve does the move he places the anvil before dropping use this t your advantage good luck
as a cloud main who is going to main steve, his recovery doesnt seem to be a problem lol.
Steve has magnet hands
I'm guessing the the mashing A part is a part of the cancelling elytra move and that is why it does that.
0:57 um... we uh,, cant see anything. I think youre blocking the way, silly billy
I’m surprised most people didn’t know Steve could cancel his Up B. I knew that the day after he came out.
Crazily enough im pretty sure u can also accomplish the extra height by spamming shield instead of the A button. I realized this during the first few days so its pretty cool other ppl found out this neat trick too
Imagine the outrage if this video came out a month ago
This is actually the same in Minecraft. You can go higher with an elytra if you angle it and not just aim straight up
thank you mew2king, very epic
This was his biggest weakness by far and now nobody is gonna be SD’ing with this
Steve came out like a year ago? My god…
This sounds like a recovery DLC that you have to download
steve should take fall damage for that
Actually, when falling about 7 blocks height, (jumping off of the highest block you're allowed in most legal stages) you make a small crunch noise when hitting the ground, either very similar or identical to the fall damage sound from minecraft but I forget.
@Supreme Person i does make s special sound effect, but the new one where you just hear him breaking his legs.
