    Uhhh...um...so... FYI for the record, this version predated the Hunky Dory recording by a few months, had Bowie's direct involvement (uncredited performance on the recording) and this arrangement is definitely connected to the style and aesthetics that Bowie was working during his Deram Records era (which I personally love).
    I agree it's by no means as memorable or artistically successful as the final Hunky Dory version, but this is is technically the original version of the song, not a cover, and very much laced with Bowie aesthetic DNA and attitude and, I think, a fascinating historical curio.

      I wondered about that. Definitely love the Bowie version better. Kinda like "All the Young Dudes"......I love the Mott the Hoople version- it's what I grew up with, but when I heard Bowie sing it.......haha, screw those guys, it was always Bowie's song, haha.

    Always good to know when and where something was recorded:
    Footage is taken from Saturday 29th May 1971 edition of ITV/LWT's pop show, Whittaker's World of Music.

    Fantastic to see a good quality video of this classic Bowie track. ( I would have loved to hear Noone do a cover of "Quicksand"!) Noone performed this only once on TOTP (this performance is from Roger Whittakers pop show of the time) ... with Bowie (in pre Ziggy, effeminate Hunky Dory outfit) on piano. Needless to say ... the BBC have wiped it to save space in the archive! Shame.

    • @AbsurdityViewer
      @AbsurdityViewer Год назад

      yes, this is the 'kids' version of a creeping counter culture. notice the rainbow theme years before the rainbow flag was recognized as the 'gay' flag (at 1:50 you can clearly see the rainbow and the rainbow light fixtures). Tavistock conditioning. Peter Noone was socially 'acceptable' to parents because he was one of the 'nice' rockers. Don't 'kid' yourself, your children are not your own... gotta make way for the Homo Superior.
      Bowie knew what he was saying and we knew what he was saying but parents tend to avoid counter culture for their 'kids' unless it's packaged in a familiar format they recognize. This is a ridiculous rendition of an avant guard offering by a rising star in the counter culture movement. Peter Noone is a pathetic and useful idiot.
