There is no chance in heck that a mechanic, other than Scotty, is going to hook up six sensors underneath a vehicle in order to detect where a sound is coming from. So, it's an interesting and useful tool, but it would simply require too much time and patience for 99% of mechanics out there to use. They would rather guess and then start firing the parts cannon.

The 2007 Impala with the 3.8 engine is on a top 10 best older used cars list. Two things. The cooling elbows on the heads will Crack if they are original plastic. Dorman makes a metal replacement part, and 2) if the car ran dexcon antifreeze, the lower intake manifold could be corroded, and antifreeze and oil could mix and trash the engine. The 3.8 GM engine was very durable otherwise.

I had a noise in my 97 jeep ( 174,800 miles ) when put in reverse when it was cold, it would last about 5 seconds then go away. It shifted fine except for that noise in reverse when it got colder outside.
I added a can of Sea Foam Hydra Trans. Tune to it 16 oz. $15.00 at Auto Zone, I DON'T LIKE LUCAS PRODUCTS AT ALL. The noise went away in about 5 minutes & I was very impressed, used Sea Foam products before but not Trans. Tune.
Then about 2 years later went to change my Trans. fluid & man it looked DARK, REAL DARK, NO RED AT ALL. It cleaned all the varnish & junk out of my Trans. as the can said it would. Changed fluid & filter & added another can of Trans. Tune, no more noise but the Jeep's SUB FRAME IS ROTTING IT'S WAY AROUND THE DRIVE TRAIN, THE RUST BELT SUCKS IN N.E. PA.

I’ve put 213,712 miles on it and pulled an 8,700 lb. fifth wheel travel trailer about 600 miles a year from 2014 till 2018. Would still be pulling the trailer but my wife developed brain cancer and couldn’t camp anymore. It has a 5.4 3v Triton that idles so smooth at the traffic light you’d think it wasn’t running. I had.a 1998 Honda Accord that in drive it hardly moved and felt like major slippages but if u manually put it in low and shift it up to Low2 then drive
It had all the power in the world and shifted manually fine..but I wasn’t comfortable to keep driving that way in a automatic
And 5 garages told me it needed a new transmission
    After doing research
I found info that a TCM replacement
    Would fix it…
So I went to a junk yard and they had one already flashed so just plug n go..
So I did and bam that thing was perfect power n shifted like a dream!
A transmission control module was $150 BEATS a $2,800 transmission
It’s cuz the TCM was getting moisture from rain and the TCM was on the floorboard in between the bottom of the car and the carpet!
So try a TCM replacement first
The CHEV impala has the same issue
With moisture getting into TCM electrical due to its placement

Hey Scotty. My wife has a 2021 Tacoma V6. We leased it about a year ago. Took it to the dealer for the free oil change. They claimed it could go 10,000 miles between oil changes. After about 13,000 miles, and a so called oil change, the engine was very ticky and rough. I decided to change the oil and filter myself and the oil was super dirty, suggesting they never changed the oil. Now I noticed the exhaust has a lot of carbon and the engine is burning through a little oil. I can tell when the oil gets low by the sound of the engine. I will be doing the oil changes myself every 5,000 miles from now on. My question is, did the dealer screw up my truck by claiming they changed the oil but in reality it looks like they never did?

    • @User-q6x3b
      @User-q6x3b 2 года назад +4

Man, that sounds annoying. The great news is it's a lease. As long as you have the receipt saying the oil was done, your lease agreement should be satisfied. Whether they actually performed the service is another story.
Personally, if I had any questions (oil burning/odd noises) at the end of the lease, I'd hand it back over to toyota..

If your sister is mad at you for something that isn't your fualt, maybe you need to decide who deserves to be in your life. Sounds like a toxic relationship. Keeping people like that is not going to get you out of the hole you are in. And you had a divorce from someone who left you in this situation. You have to respect your self and set boundaries if you want to attract quality people into your life. I am sorry for your situation. I hope things get better.
It also comes down to knowing how to buy a dependable car and learning how to work on it your self. I can not afford a mechanic either which is why I watch these videos and do anything that I can, my self. I have saved $4000 this yr. I take very good care of my car. I got it for $2000 and have had it for 8yrs. Comes down to knowing what to buy and then learning how to work on it.

Going to try the Lucas oil anti-slip on my 2004 Mercury Sable. Not sure if Scotty's ever talked about this make and model before but this has been a great used car I bought in 2012 and it had a hint of a mysterious burnt oil smell when I started the test drive but it was gone before I knew what it was. I smelled the same smell just briefly several times over the last 10 years but it always ran well. In the lasr year the shifting has been getting worse and worse. Hopefully I can use the Lycas Oil anti-slip to get another year or two out of the old girl.

Long story short, I have to start moving in 2, and when I get to about 40mph, I can kick it into D, but I have to make sure I press the pedal lightly, or the RPMs just shoot up and the thing won't accelerate. Occasionally it will work in D for a minute or so, but it eventually slips. Any recommendations?

It dose have 242k miles. Not sure all the repair history on it. It has a engine shake and squeals, even after all new engine Trans mounts( im assuming a pully, probably idle tensioner pully). It also has no power from a stop ( I seen a common problem with these is the distributor coil) planing on putting a new distributor (complete) and new struts around with a lift spacer 40mm (i am a tall guy lol) anything that should be replaced between the age or millage

Took my car to amcco and they said my transmission needed rebuild. I hadn't noticed anything weird before they did anything to it. I was just getting a check up before driving across country. I wanted to make it without breakdown so I had the work done. After they rebuilt it, I noticed some weird things like having a hard time shifting on the freeway, hard time going up hill and started making a subtle but weird grinding noise it had never made before the repair. Took it to another amcco across the country and they said it looked weird(they banged it up alot trying to put it back together at the first amcco) but it was fine and functional. Now it is 16 months later so the warentee is over and now the car jumps when put in reverse. I think the second amcco knew something wasn't right 10 months ago but didn't want to do the work because they don't make much money off of warrentee work.
It is a 97 toyota Rav4 with 150ooomi. Never had any breakdown or issue with it. I am learning to do my own work on it but I don't think transmission is a DIY job? What should I do? It's a great car but I don't want to spend another $5000 to get the transmission fixed again, the car isn't worth $10000. Runs fine for the most part but I don't want to ignore the small issues and have them turn into bigger problems.

You should have never accepted any work on it. You can check the atf levels make sure it's actually got the required fluid. After that your best bet is looking online for class action suits against the company unless you're willing to go back to the original shop that did the work. You would get another 100K out of that RAV4 though so if nothing else works try a new fluid change and then just get a remanufactured one from an experienced place

Question - Im looking at buying a used 2008 Nissan xterra X Sport Utility 4D 4.0 V6 with automatic transmission. He is asking $7,500. Its a year with the smod radiator leaking into transmission destroying both issue. Mileage on it currently is around 97,000 miles. Seller im talking with just bought the xterra less than a year ago after his wife totaled one of their other cars so they bought the xterra to help them in their move from florida to california where they and i are now. They say they dont need the additional vehicle as they also have other. I asked if they or previous owner already replaced the radiator and / or transmission given the xterra being one of years nissan made the badly designed radiators that can leak into transmission and vise versa.
He said he does not know if either were replaced, but he hasnt replaced either.
But he proudly said paid the nissan mechanic dealership to do a radiator or transmission flush. Yet from what Ive read its actually recommended to not flush the transmission in these old of xterras as it can damage transmission. Full replacement of transmission fluids being the more recommended safer option.
So given assuming its the original transmission and radiator, and dealership at least gave the xterra a transmission flush instead of replacement, and unknown previous maintenence and repair and issues history before he bought it last year, i am wondering if its likely its going to fail soon?
Or if it can likely continue working good for many years without needintg to replace transmission and or radiator within just a few years?
I test drove it briefly and didnt notice anything obviously slipping, stalling, etc. But I only drove it maybe 10 or 15 minutes and forgot to try out the additional low gear options.
And if there is no leaking at this point between radiator and transmission ( and how do i know for sure ) is it safe for me to just replace radiator and do transmission and radiiator change of fluids ( not another flush )? And this will prevent transmission being damaged, and is it reasonable to expect these transmissions to then last at least another 1000,000 miles before needing replaced?

Hey Scotty, I have a 1995 Toyota Camry with a V6. It has 295k miles on it and the transmission is beginning to slip between drive and neutral. It occurs randomly, and the slip will last from anywhere between a fraction of a second to a few seconds, and is quite scary when driving in dense traffic. The speedometer also goes from ghe current speed to 0 while this is happening, causing it to move sporadically. Then it will sometimes slip back into drive and the speedometer wont work at all, at least until I stop, turn off the engine, and restart it. Should I try and use the anti-slip additive recommend in this video, or try something else? I don't have the money to afford a new car, and this one works great for me.
